I had done some research prior to visiting Stan as to which product I wanted, he was very thorough w regard to pros and cons of various products.I was told the work would be done in a week. I am writing to amend a previous review. I was sure the problem with my glasses was with the owner of Andover Optical when in fact it was with the lens manufacturer. I went to the shop very frustrated and the owner advised me the glasses were under warranty and new lenses which he ordered. Also fixed the nosepiece which will hopefully alleviate the sore on the side of my nose. He was very gracious in the face of my agitated frustration. All in all I am very happy! My pricey Chanel sunglasses had scratched lenses. I googled optical shops and saw that Andover Optical had great reviews. I called and spoke with Jennifer. She said they could be replaced. $85 to replace lenses with polarized lenses. The Chanels are saved! The best news is that it would take only 3 days. I picked up the sunglasses today. John waited on me. He had me try on the sunglasses to make sure that they fit ok on my face. They did. I saw a bin of sunglass cases. John said they were free. My wife needed new glasses and we prefer to shop locally so decided to give Andover Optical a try. We dealt with Stan, who was absolutely fantastic. He showed us a number of different glasses and was exceptionally helpful in allowing my wife to choose the perfect pair of glasses for her. In my experience, this shop dispenses lenses that are made correctly, which is good considering that not all shops do. The owner adjusts frames well even though he seems a little irritated when it takes more than a few attempts. Here's the issue. After he works on the glasses, he grabs a tissue and rubs it into the lenses very hard to clean them. He does this multiple times. If the tissue does not scratch the lens, it can drag dust or anything on the lens across the surface and leave scratches. He left a scratch on my lens. I tried to talk to him, but he would have none of it. Eek! Well-made lenses and good adjustments aren't worth jack to me if the owner scratches the lenses when I visit. I'm looking into an online vendor. I'm looking into Eyeglasses.com and will give them a shot soon. Online vendors charge less for the same lenses and frames. One needs to be able to adjust the frames oneself, but there is info online about how to do this. Online vendors also offer better return policies than optical shops. Of course, one wants to research the online vendor first. Google it. Call in a few times with questions. Check out the website. Here's a link to a Youtube search. My mother had purchased several eyeglasses from Andover Optical. The staff was wonderfully helpful and patient. They knew my mother, and provided excellent, personal service-a totally different experience from buying from a large chain store. It was heartening to see my elderly mother treated with such kindness and respect. When she passed away and I tried to pay for eyeglasses she had just ordered, they refused to accept any payment. Was recommended by a friend, took my prescription to Stan and he sat with me and tried on a number of prescription sunglasses. Settled on the New Wayfarer Ray Bans. They took care of all of the Eyeware coverage paperwork so I did not have to seek reimbursement. Glasses came in one week to the day, we sat again and all adjustments were made........it was just too easy. I can not believe that I did not purchase a pair of prescription sunglasses earlier in life - what a difference. Excellent service! My husband's glasses broke at the bridge. He doesn't have a back up pair and was in a real bind. I called at 10:30 and was there by 11. Jennifer couldn't have been more helpful. It was a tricky situation and she remedied it quickly. By 11:45 my husband lenses were placed in a new frame. We are absolutely thrilled with the result and service. Jennifer really saved the day.
