YES! so my lovely friends were getting married and since i'm of the no-dress variety, i decided to wear a tuxedo to their wedding. being that i am built like a pro wrestler, the smallest men's suit i could find was way way toooo big! i was swimming in it like nemo. and being that i am who i am, the tuxedo arrived in my mailbox really really close to the wedding date. so what did i do? first, i panicked. and second, i checked out tailors on this here yelp. i called andreas and he said he could turn it around in time and i zoomed over for a sizing. he was kind and funny, and amused by my outfit! but when i picked it up on my way to the wedding location, it fit PERFECTLY! i completely recommend him for anything that really matters to you - the price is more than worth it! read more

This guy does a great job with everything from bridesmaid dresses to jeans and skirts. He's really nice too. The only downside: gets a bit pricey quickly. Roughly $20 per piece of clothing for alterations. I dropped $60 on one jeans hemming and two pant/skirt waist alterations. I have no regrets though! After taking my vintage wedding dress to a local alteration shop and being turned away because "there was nothing that could be done" to my dress that wouldn't ruin it and that I should "just get a different dress" (yeah, they got a bad review from me), I found Andy on Yelp. I wanted the top of my dress reworked, because there was too much material and I wanted the sleeves taken off. I also wanted a blue sash added since my shoes are white with blue dots, and my wedding theme is Blue. I explained what I wanted to Andy and he said that it could be done. It took about 3 weeks for me to go pick up my dress after I dropped it off (I called first to make sure it was finished), and it looked exactly the way I'd wanted it to. The price was very reasonable as well. I'm very happy with my experience here. read more

I don't know...I think I've given up on tailors in San Francisco. Maybe my expectations were too high from Yelp, but my experience here was not great. I came in to take in a couple of pairs of pants. The man who *greeted* me seemed very depressed and didn't seem to be paying attention while he was fitting me. I commented that one pair seemed too baggy, but he sluggishly said, "No, this is fine." My first trip back to pick up my pants had an error on one pair and the other pair looked even baggier when the other areas were taken in. I showed him and he sluggishly said, "Yes. This does look too baggy." All in all, I had to go back 2 or 3 times just to get my pants right! I'm pretty busy, so even though they are conveniently located, it was still a royal pain. Aside from what seemed to be an unnecessary hassle, the workmanship in the end was excellent. One item was a very expensive pair of pants with stripes in them. Along the rear, the lines were meticulously aligned and all the detailing was great. And although the work seemed to be more than what they budgeted (if had had only listened to me the first place!) they didn't even think to charge me any extra. So that was good. So in summary, service was blah if not strenuous due to extra visits; craftmanship was very good and prices were reasonable. I won't go here again because I'm still on the lookout for a tailor who is talented, but not angry (see Cable Car Tailor post) or depressed...with reasonable prices. Any suggestions?? read more

I recently discovered the joys of tailoring and I'm in love. Andy is great. Professional, courteous and friendly. I brought in two pairs of jeans to be hemmed and it only cost me $15. (Is that about average? I wouldn't know.) I also brought in a blazer to take out the ruching and he wanted to check with me before he added a seam on the sleeve. I can't speak to the quality of Andreas's work, but I can praise his excellent customer service and ethics. I came in a few months back trying to get a suit I'd just bought tailored. Andreas examined how the suit was fitting and advised me that the cut was simply not correct for my body type and that the suit should be returned. He then gave me a bunch of suit buying advice and store recommendations. No doubt, a lesser tailor would've just done a hack job and billed me for it. read more

As many others have stated, Andy does fine work and you'll likely be pleased with the results. I've entrusted Andy with almost all of my alteration and tailoring needs for a couple of years now. I started with the basics (hems, etc). He listened to what I wanted to achieve and delivered a flawless product each time. Yes, he does take a while longer and is more costly than other shops. Keep this in mind: he is a skilled artisan, the shop is located in the financial district (i.e., relatively high rent), and he is in demand. He is a true tailor in the sense that he can create made-to-measure clothing. Unfortunately he does not do bespoke clothing. Highly recommended - just don't get all pissy if he cannot meet your short deadline because you failed to plan ahead. read more

I previously wrote a really bad review of this place. Then, when I went to my sisters wedding and saw how the other bridesmaids dresses had been tailored, realized Andreas was a pure TALENT. I don't think I realized how difficult the fabric was to tailor and how horribly bad a job COULD have been done. I put off having my bridesmaid dress altered until 3 weeks before the wedding. It was too long and too tight. I found Andreas Gorges through Yelp and decided to try him out since he was close to my office. With so little time before the wedding, I was nervous about the fact that if he messed up the dress, I might not have time to have it fixed. But Andreas promised it would be finished with enough time to adjust it if necessary. He gave me a thoughtful and realistic turnaround time that took into consideration what he could accomplish and my deadlines as well. It was honest and appreciated. Andreas was great - patient, gentle, listened to what I wanted, offered advice as to what I needed (and I'm so glad I took his advice!). He didn't rush me, and let me stand in the mirror and think about how I wanted the dress to look. The dress turned out beautifully, and was as comfortable as bridesmaid dresses can get. I even suggested him to one of the other bridesmaids to have the bust altered (the dress had wire corseting inside), which she did and it looked fantastic on her. Will definitely bring more items to Andreas. His pricing was reasonable for the quality of his work, his patience and professionalism, and turnaround time. read more

Andy's been my tailor for the past couple years and he's fantastic. I've had him alter suits, trousers, dress shirts, coats, jeans, even boardshorts, and every single time the result is exactly what I'd hope for. Recently, I also began having him make custom dress shirts and I haven't bought a shirt "off the rack" since. Not only are there a couple dozen specific measurements and details that you can select (collar, cuffs, stitch style, pocket - everything) but he also must have 500 swatches of very nice, high-thread count fabrics to choose from, in just about every style and color you can imagine. The shirts do take awhile (6 weeks) but they're so worth the $120-$150 each, especially if you're used to buying a nice off the rack shirt and having it altered for about the same price. I found that when I did that, there was often still something I didn't totally like. Unless your preference and body type/dimensions are EXACTLY what you get in stores, this is the best way to go. The shirts definitely seem to be better quality as well and hold up much better to daily white collar combat. I definitely recommend Andy and have converted most everyone I know. I was told to come back in the end of the day, well, the pants were hammed, but I can tell the pants was not even pressed before the hemming. A very poor job. This guy is great! He tailored my daughter's wedding dress and did a fantastic job! She couldn't wait to get the dress out of the wedding store she bought it from. Their taylor was overpriced and did a poor job (she had a bridesmaid dress altered there). She took her dress to Andreas. He did two fittings that were perfect. The length was shortened and the bust needed some alterations. She tried the dress on Thursday morning before the wedding (on Saturday). It was loose, which is not good for a strapless dress. She had lost weight apparently. Andreas fitted her on Thursday and the dress was ready for her on Friday. It fit perfect and she looked beautiful! Thank you, Andreas. read more

Best tailor I've been to. I had an over sized suit that I brought to two other local drying cleaning / tailors which said the suit couldn't be fixed. Andreas not only tailored the suit but it was ready faster than there 2 week turn around. If you want cheap and fast this isn't the right tailor for you. They only do high quality work. They don't make it any more, so he took it to Andres to have it repaired. $20 later it is good as new (well, like it was never torn anyway). i just went to check him out and he looks like a solid tailor. in the end though, he was really really expensive. i don't recommend him for small things. if you have something huge to do, then i'd go to andy. otherwise, save your money and go elsewhere. i got quoted $70 for a small adjustment to my suit. read more
