Some really nice suits line the walls of this little closet like establishment, and you walk in a little confused. Wait, which guy in the suit is doing the tailoring. So, I was a little turned around and slightly embarrassed I brought jeans into this tartan and tweed little world, but they took them with a smile and only cost me $30 to hem two pair. Not bad. Unreliable! I was supposed to have my pants back by this morning but I still don't have it. When I dropped off my pants to get it hemmed, he made it sound like he was doing me a BIG favor by having it ready by Saturday morning. When I went there this afternoon(here I emphasize AFTERNOON) to pick up my pants, not only was it not ready but he couldn't even find my pants for the longest time! It's been days since I dropped it off and he hasn't even touched it! He told me that if I wait for a few minutes, he'll do it right there. So if it's such a simple task for him to hem my pants in a couple of minutes, why was my pants ignored all this time? I couldn't stay due to a prior engagement but I'm going back later to pick it up. So let's see how great of a job he did. Hopefully he didn't mess it up since he was rushing it to get it back to me. read more

i got a pair of g-star jeans as a gift and they looked great except one thing, it had a 3-BUTTON FLY. ugh, i don't understand whose brilliant idea it was to put these stupid things in "high-end" jeans but it is just retarded. not only are they inconvenient, but in my case the jeans were on the tight end and i couldn't even button the fly up all the way. so i did a yelp search for a tailor (not even sure if switching a button fly to a zipper fly falls under tailor territory but i thought i'd give it a shot). andreas had the highest ratings so i gave him a call and he said it could be done. not only did he do an awesome job, it only cost $25 and now i can comfortably wear my new jeans =) btw $25 is nothing compared to how much the jeans originally cost, i saw the price tag haha... super reasonable price and return time, if i ever have any more tailoring needs i know where to go. read more

I should know better than to give Andy a five-star review because he naturally gets busier as the clientele continues to grow, but the man deserves it. Simply put, he's a first rate professional...the portrait a bona fide tailor with a great eye for detail. My prior experience with tailors had been relatively lousy...they shrug when you ask for an opinion, sneak an ill-fitting thing or two past you if possible, balk when you propose something mildly challenging, etc. Andy is collaborative, not afraid to give an (always well-reasoned) opinion, and has tackled some pretty thorny challenges for me with great success. Top top it off, he's he's a genuinely cool & interesting gent. His custom work is also second to none. The first time he made me a custom suit from scratch, I was worried. Wouldn't I be better off going to J. Crew or Ralph Lauren? Well, price-wise, it was about the same as buying a suit, then having it tailored well - the hems, tapering the pants, the sides of the jacket, etc. So I decided to risk it. I didn't know what it felt like to have a tailor made suit before, but I do now. It takes some back and forth to get it just perfect, but it fits like a glove. Shout out to young Andreas who follows in dad's footsteps; never without a smile, he's got enthusiasm & work ethic in spades. Top marks all round! PS. After exchanging over the phone, I came to get a quote for potential alterations on a suit jacket and check custom-made shirts. Place is small and messy but nice welcome greetings. It was busy with 2 other people. I waited a bit - fine. But when my turn came, Andreas didn't spend much time with me (2-3 mins) and was too eager to sell his services. And then after I started to check fabrics for shirts he disappeared for 10 minutes. There were lots of people coming in and out so I guess business is doing well but if you dont feel like providing good customer service, then you won't have my business. read more

Not a good experience. I went in to get a pair of jeans hemmed. First of all, the jeans weren't ready the day they were promised, so I had to come back the next day. When I went back, one pant leg was hemmed to be one inch longer than the other pant leg. What the heck? Isn't that tailoring 101?? I'm not lopsided. I had to go back in again the following day to get it right. Andy is nice enough, but he could barely do a simple hem job on my jeans. He didn't even apologize for repeatedly not delivering what was promised. By far the worst tailoring experience I've had in SF. read more

This place is awesome! I found Andreas Gorges Tailoring through a very thorough yelp search. I was looking for a tailor who could fix my ill-fitting bridesmaid dress while still being affordable. Andreas Gorges Tailoring delivered! My dress was ready within a week and a half. When I went back in to try it on, it fit like a glove! Not to mention, the cost was super reasonable. This rewrite is loooooooong overdue. So after my initial so-so expeience I decided to go back because the bridesmaids dress that he altered for me fit like a freakin' glove - I liked the feeling. He is indeed a master at his craft, very careful and precise in all he does. He has altered every dress I have bought for the last year or so, and each and every one hugs my curves to perfection. I took two pairs of pants in for my tapering. Thing is, I rarely find pants that fit right off the rack. So I find pant s that fit right up top because I can always have the legs fixed. In this case I had two pairs of slightly flared, you might call them boot cut, I call them dumb, legs. I took a pair of pant with me that I do like. A week later I picked them up and they are awesome. They turned out exactly the way I wanted, the stitching is aces and the whole transaction was smooth. Thank you Yelpers. I went to AG because of the stellar reviews I found on this site. I brought in a 80s cocktail dress, shoulder pads and all. AG transformed it into a modern and sleek dress. I get compliments on it all the time. I spent 20 dollars on the dress and 30 on the alterations. The dress was ready for me in under two work days. He understood my urgency in terms of time. It was ready and totally perfect! 4 big orange stars for that. My small grievance might be that the alteration cost more than the dress. I'm no tailor but he took the dress and created a deep-V in the back. I'm guessing the charge was for the cut and stitching back the zipper? Still the dress came out fabulous! I will be back with more outdated what-not-to-wear garments for AG :) read more

I bought a Canali suit on Ebay and it was incorrectly sold as a 38R when it was actually a 38S. There was very little excess material to play with but Andreas did an amazing job adding material out of sight to lengthen the sleeves. He didn't manage to complete on time (it took 3 weeks instead of 1) but the quality is superb. Highly recommended. read more

I was in a couple bridal parties last summer and came here for the alterations. It was about $45 each time to reduce the length, but definitely worth it. I found this tailor on Yelp, after reading lots of reviews. I walked in and Andrew greeted me by name---he remembered me from ten years ago when I bought suits at local store. I had him cut four suits down to size, and alter several pairs of slacks. He told me that two of the suits were too out of style to spend money altering-- great advice. He is the guy to go to for alterations and repairs for jackets, suits, tuxes etc. Very reasonable prices for the amount of work. read more

First, I want to say Andreas is a great guy. He was a very kind and soft spoken man. He did some work for me, which all came out fine, with the exception of a suit jacket. I asked him to tailor the jacket so it would fit more slim around my torso. He did just that, but in the process, he did a poor job in reconstructing the seams around the shoulder. There are tons of wrinkles and weird clumps of fabric popping out. The other work he did didn't seem spectacular to me. He charges a lot of money; it cost me $75 for the jacket. I don't think you should come here if you need minor tasks done. There are other places that can do the same work for a significantly cheaper price. read more

Do NOT go here if you have anything nice - they will butcher it and not apologize! I got an expensive John Varvatos jacket as a gift - sleeves too long as always. When I had it shortened, the cuffs were hacked to shreds. They were no longer vented, though they had been before, and the lining was stitched together like frankenstein's monster to cover up for the fact that the vents had been removed in the process. The sleeve button was in the wrong place too. I complained and they said they'd fix it - but didn't. Instead they sewed a useless fake buttonhole on the vent and called it a day. The jacket didn't have fake buttonholes like that before - and if I take it out the fabric will be ruined! AVOID AT ALL COSTS! read more

I brought 3 pairs of jeans in for hemming - 2 original hem and 1 regular hem. The regular hem resulted in crooked stitching at the bottom, it's hardly noticeable so I'll give them a pass. On one of the two original hems, you can clearly see a line where they attached the original hem to the rest of the pants and it looks like there's a cuff. I will bring them back in to see if they can fix it (I doubt it), but for now they are a 2 star at best. read more

Excellent work! I ordered a bridesmaid dress that ended up being too small. I was unable to zip it up in the back. This place did what I thought would be impossible, and managed to make it so I could zip it. I am super happy on the discovery of this little tailor shop nestled in the heart of the fidi. I took my braids maid's dress to be altered and Andy was super sweet and made me feel really comfortable about leaving it in his capable hands! Although I had issues stuffing myself into it, he made some cheeky jokes and definitely put me at ease. I come back to pick it up and he is all smiles and sweetness. What a cutie pie! It was less than I expected and extremely reasonable... I will be coming back for sure, I know I have some jeans that need some work. I had a wedding to go to and needed my new suit pants brought up just about a 1/4 or so give or take, and being i havent had to use a tailor in the city i decided to check this place out since the reviews were so great. First off the place just looks like a mess when you walk in, not very profesional, but hey i can overlook that as long as they are good right?? It took all of two seconds for him to measure me up which was impressive, said it would take a little over a week. (so much for the quick service everyone rants about) called the day of pick up, the guy put me on hold for about 10 minutes while trying to find my pants, finally gets on and says they are good to go. Great i think, ill be there in about an hour and a half. Get there, they have to tear apart the whole store looking for my pants, honestly must have took them about 15 minutes to find them and if any of you have been here before you know this place is about as big as a walk in closet. (p.s didnt i just call for them) anyways comes to find out the guy behind the scene was still finishing sewing them up while the other guy pretended to look! Anyways i wouldnt recomend this place, they charged 48 bucks on top of that which i chalk up to not asking in advance, but i wouldnt have been charged more than 15 at my old shop but whatever... lesson learned. If you do take a chance on them, hopefully you get better service and REMEMBER TO ASK FOR A PRICE BEFORE LEAVING!!!!!! read more

I took my wedding dress to Andreas to hem. It was a pretty simple dress (ie, not multiple layers, no bustle, etc), but it did have some details that needed to be just so. It was perfect. And he was very easy to work with. The very cool thing -- when I came in to pick up the dress, he knew exactly who I was and which garment belonged to me, despite the fact that I'd only spent 10 minutes there a month earlier. i am 5'1". it's very hard for me to find pants that fit. my whole life i used to have my pants hemmed by my now deceased grandmother and i've been looking for someone to do the job as well as her. THIS MAN CAN. i bought a pair of pinstripe jeans that had a detailed hem with contrast stitching. i asked andreas if he could replicate that.... and HE DID!! he is great. it cost $15 but worth every penny. top notch quality!!! i've been there 3x's and the pants haven't been finished by their due date... usually a day or two after... so it's a good idea to CALL and make sure your items are ready before you make the trek over. just an fyi. read more
