4 Cheese Grandma Pizza Slice with Pesto & Sausage

((4.5 stars)) Andrea's Pizza is another bright spot on the pizza map of NYC as the collective quality of pizza in Manhattan has been on the upswing for the past 10 years 1) bc people are more picky about their discretionary eating 2) bc fierce competition has bred pizza shops serving ever-improving quality pied and slices. accordingly, better pizzerias are dotting neighborhoods throughout boroughs. Andrea's Pizza is very much a modern neighborhood pizzeria with nods to the past. the clean, neat interior is straightforward: a couple of tables and the bench-style booths, a flatscreen playing music, Tiffany-esque hanging lamps, and a simple unpretentious ambiance. the focus is the pizza counter and kitchen and most importantly, the pizza. been here several times. i believe this place is owner-operated bc I haven't seen an other workers here while i was there. have had the plain cheese pizza a few times. it's a very good NYC-style slice. the crust is thin, but firm...crispy but still has good chew (meaning it is not dry), so it make for a soft crunch, the sauce is not sweet, but has touches of tomato and herb flavors without being "wet" or overdone; the cheese is melty, soft, fatty, creamy, and a touch of saltiness which makes for satisfying first bites to last ones when combined with the textures and flavors of the crust and sauce. the magic is really in the consistency of the their classic plain NYC-style slice which is at the heart of any great pizza place. it takes time and hard work to do this and it is in full display at Andrea's. last time, here (yesterday) tried a specialty square / Sicilian slice: "4 Cheese Grandma with Sausage & Pesto pizza slice." the square slice crust was thicker than a round slice, but still airy and light with the right amount of crispness. it is not mushy or superthick, but the crust remains firm with some give and that satisfying flavor and mouth feeling of olive oil baked onto the outside of the crust. the cheese is somewhat absorbed into the top layer of the crust but also makes it's on layer where you can taste the mozzarella, pecorino, reggiano (or grand padano), and maybe taleggio (idk the fourth). the pesto sauce is pesto-y without being too much so. and the sausage is meaty small chunks of seasoned savoriness. this is very much the slice you want when you want something that isn't classic but a bit different with a full personality of more filling ingredients. it's worth a spin if you're a fan of the Grandma slice and want a bigger style slice. however for me, the classic NYC cheese slice is my go-to here and pretty much anywhere else that serves good pizza. service is quick and waits are short as word about this place is still in its nascency. i imagine it will be different story when the weather thaws out and foot traffic on this block of 2nd Avenue picks up.

Had lunch here with my family today and the pizza was sooooooo good (and the service fast and friendly)! I'm pretty sure we tried every style they had from the classic pepperoni, my favorite (the vodka & pesto), to Grandma's pie the crust was perfect and all of the ingredients fresh and flavorful. Slices were $5-$6 each and it was VERY clean and nice and cool inside with plenty of seating for our family of 5. Don't miss this New York gem if you are craving excellent pizza pie!

Service: 4.7/5 Food: 3.9/5 Price: $10-$40 New shop that's been trending online. I think what drew us is knowing the owner used to work at Scarr's + L'Industrie Pizza, other well-known joints. Pretty standard slice shop, prices are competitive + the menu matches most others. They sell both New York + Sicilian-style pizzas, I think the latter is more worth it here. Good amount of space inside- they have 2 booths + a couple tables. I will say, the perk of this place is the bathroom, which I don't find common for Manhattan slice shops. What I Ordered: - Sicilian Grandma w/ Sausage + Pesto: crispy bottom, greasy top (dripped down my chin), salty + flavorful - Cheese: less greasy, chewy on the crust, cheese holds together - Sicilian Cheese + Basil: got it extra crispy which I recommend, super fluffy, basil was tough to break apart, epic cheese pulls

Surprisingly phenomenal slice in EV. I wish this place had more reviews and ergo more visibility. David L is right, if this spot were in an area with more foot traffic, it would be much busier. Andrea himself has cut his teeth at Scarr's and L'Industrie and his product speaks for itself, cuz he's nailed the technique. Perfect plain slice in terms of sauce to cheese to crust ratios and nicely salty. I feel like all other new slice shops are too afraid to throw thinner pies but this place got it right.

Amazing pizza and even better service! The beef pepperoni pizza is amazing and you must try the grandmas pizza!

Andrea's puts put a classic NYC Slice. Thin and well cooked. One bite 8.2. The location is on a quite part of 2nd Ave. If they were in a busier spot they would be very busy.

Pretty solid pizza slice joint. Reasonable prices, and some seating available as well. Both the regular and grandma slices were good.

New pizza spot in the neighborhood and one of my favorite slices in NYC now. Big, very thin and crispy slice. 10/10.

Water and excellent bread arrived immediately and the waiter was helpful describing dishes and giving advice. Salads were fresh and crisp. Caesar was nicely dressed and the mixed salad was a nice combination with well balanced herb vinaigrette. Seafood dishes had large amounts of fresh seafood and the veal picatta had the lemony flavor you expect without excessive acidity. Dessert was tasty and innovative. The ricotta based cheese cake wasn't as smooth as the cream cheese form but the citrus flavor was great. Throughout the meal water and bread were refilled, plates from completed courses removed and next delivered without being overly hovering. All in all a really great meal.

It works especially well for a mixed group since they have plenty of options including dishes without meat and everyone can find something. Even my picky niece and nephew were happy. My favorite entree is the Capellini Puttanesca, with capers, olives, basil, and anchovies. It's super tasty, satisfying, and the perfect portion. I also love that they offer wine by the glass and the service is consistently attentive. The waiters are always moving through the room, checking tables, refilling water, and making sure people have what they need. It's good, reliable, and near Broadway.
