The last review was back in 2012, I think Dr. Fong deserves an updated review. Wow, I can't believe I have been coming here for 9 years. Well that should tell you how much I enjoy coming in for my teeth health. My husband and my four year old has also been coming here. We have nothing but great things to say about this practice. My four year old has been coming here since he was one, maybe earlier actually lol. I was told to bring kids early on to see the dentist so that they get used to it. My son loves seeing Dr. Fong and will allow him to do a full cleaning and even x-rays. Definitely being them in early, it's helps so much. Stress free experience for everyone! I took my 91 years uncle to see Dr. Fong this week. It was our first time meeting with Dr. Fong. Wow Dr. Fong did a thoroughly oral health exam /assessment on my uncle. He used an X-ray pen (I actually don't know what it is called but it looks a pen) to back and forth looking at all my uncle's teeth in live view, gently checked for pain and sensitivity, examined my uncle's gums for signs of inflammation and redness, checked for my uncle's  jaw and the muscles that support his teeth, asked my uncle what the most recent dental issues he had and what would concern him if a specific tooth is missing. After the exam, Dr. Fong was able to pin-point what the underlying conditions are that some are more critical than others. Dr. Fong also told my uncle what the treatment options and preventive care are to take care of his dental needs. My uncle is very happy and trusts Dr. Fong's knowledge and decided to go under Dr. Fong's care. read more

Rather than detail a new review. I will send what I sent this dentist myself after my visit with some revisions for clarity. June 2018: Last time I was there I came for an emergency appointment. Specifically telling the dentist I needed a single tooth pulled immediately... it was an emergency due to pain... the appointment was accepted and apparently I paid an extra large fee for an 'emergency visit' I saw after receiving my bill. Instead of getting emergency care, I was sent home because the doctor did not 'have time' to pull my tooth. So why accept the visit? Why charge emergency fee? Without emergency care? Due to lack of time on his side? Knowing full well what I needed when we made the appointment? A complete ripoff. Then I tell the dentist I will go to a surgeon the next day to get the care I need, I mentioned I waited days in pain already.. one more day wouldnt push me over the edge. At least I got X-rays... while I was there right? The dentist then says he wants to grind on my painful tooth so it does not rub into the others. I immediately say "no" for obvious reasons and he replies "It will help in the end". I again refused and said no I already have pain and don't want to make it worse. I can wait a day... Obviously I was in for an emergency due to pain and grinding on the bad tooth in my mind can only make it worse in the day leading to the real care I need. He says to me... You need this to be done so the tooth does not grind... it will only take a couple seconds.. I promise it will make it better and not worse until you can get to the oral surgeon across the street... so in the end he was pushy enough and I let him talk me into grinding on my tooth, which never was an issue... it took about 60 seconds or less... seriously just a couple taps while I yelled it was painful. Sure enough him grinding on my tooth for no reason made it much worse. I told my wife how stupid I felt for letting that man talk me into such an illogical act that wasn't in my best interest simply because he is a dentist, but that is a mistake I surely won't make again. So the next day when I made it into the oral surgeon you referred me to, They said you guys never sent them any X-rays that you took... so you irradiated my face and wasted my time and I got nothing out of it except increased pain and a bill. I had to get a second set of X-rays the next day because nobody would answer the phone at your facility for over 30 minutes we tried during regular business hours. Anyways I won't go on further but now you claim I have an appointment Monday which I have no record of and you never called until today Friday. I have the texts and the voice mail acknowledging you received the text cancellation as soon as I sent it within minutes of being contacted that there was an appointment. If cancelling on the morning 3 days before the appointment that I didn't make is going to be a problem, try calling a few days earlier to confirm the appointment? ---- update July 2018 While I never made an appointment, and while the moment I was notified of the appointment I cancelled it and got confirmation. I was sill charged 100 dollars for a cancelled office visit. When I told them I didn't make the appointment and am going to a different dentist now, they told me that they would waive the fee only if I agree to an appointment at a later date. This office is a complete scam. I wouldn't recommend it to my enemy. read more

I have to say thank you to Dr. Fong and his staff for all their hard, extensive work they preformed on my teeth over the years. I really have to reach out and thank Dr. Fong this past year. November 1, 2015 I broke my top four front teeth. Three of the teeth were badly cracked and One tooth broke in half.  Dr. Fong and his staff preformed a series of procedures to correct my teeth. I was fitted with two crowns and two veneers. I was worried about how my teeth would look after all this work, but after seeing the final results I was relieved to see that my teeth looked better then my orginials. After a few visits with Dr. Fong, my whole outlook on dentistry and dentists was radically improved. For 30 years, I feared dental work. I feared Novocain shots, I feared the drilling, I feared the cleaning, I even feared the x-rays... and I now understand it was all because I had a horrible dentist. Everything he did was painful. Dr. Fong, on the other hand, is very mindful of pain.. how to avoid it when possible, and how to manage the unavoidable. He has special techniques of tricking your mind when administering shots. He believes in early detection and treatment. And he has the latest technologies which minimize the need for Novocain in the first place. In fact, my most recent filling required NO Novocain whatsoever, and it was painless! Dr. Fong is knowledgeable, gentle, and friendly. Oh my! This dental office has been the worst experience I have ever had. First, I called to make sure they took my insurance. They said yes. However, they didn't tell me they weren't a provider which in the future would cost me hundreds extra in deductibles and extra fees each year we see them. Once there the receptionist Malorie, tells me there is an extra charge for floride. I tell her no my insurance covers and she said just my kids. No big deal I will pay the $7. And, when I leave she makes me pay $21??? What the! She says "I told you we charge for floride". "I say not my kids, you said the insurance covers them". She says "I never said they cover your kids". Whatever I pay the $21. After I get my teeth cleadned. They hurt so bad. In all my life I have never left a dental office with my teeth hurting and a headache. Dr. Fong uses an ultra sonic to scrape every thing, including my poor enamel, of my teeth. Then tells me I need to replace a number of fillings, get a few crowns and put new fillings in other teeth. I have gone to the dentist religiously and at the last appointment, 6 months prior,everything was perfect. My little 5year old needs a filing in what my previous dentist called a dimple in his tooth. Dr fong tries to say he is proactive. Another would for do whatever I feel like cause you don't know. I worked in dental before and was very annoyed at how he tried to justify what needed to be done. Finally, leaving they didn't give me the option to say no we don't want this filling or that. They just wanted those things done, period. Once home I called my insurance company and have never liked an insurance company more than I did at that moment. She told me they did cover everyone's floride! Talked to me about fillings they cover on kids, amalgam vs composite. And made my day. Now, trying to get records emailed (a free way to send things) I am told they charge $50 to do that. She even tries to say I told you that before. Whatever, use that excuse on someone else. I have heard that way to many times! I would never reccommend this dental office and have no idea how he has great reviews! read more

I have always been afraid of dentists, that's why sometimes I wait too long for the next dental check-up. Dr. Fong changed my perception, and I feel very confident and fear-free going to his appointments. I initially saw Dr. Fong for a general check-up and cleaning (I got a Groupon voucher), and, since then, got a crown and a major filling done by him. I am very happy with my crown (and the filling too!). Unlike most dental offices,they make crowns in-house, so I went back with the permanent crown that same day! I especially like how Dr. Fong treats his patients. He's always been on time, very articulate about what needs to be done and how much it will cost. He also doesn't try to get more money out of you if a simpler treatment suffices your needs. I also like the fact that Dr. Fong is a cosmetic dentist, and, even for regular procedures, he makes everything look very neat. It was a very complicated process and needed a lot of patience and thank god that Dr. Fong has that. *1st step tooth to be numb. Dr. Fong told me that his going to massage my cheek . I said "OK, cool I get a massage first before I go thru this process, Actually he was massaging my cheek gentle while injecting me to numb my gum. When he took the injection I was like "did you just inject me? I didn't even feel it, Thanks". Some Dentist they don't really care they just inject it to you. *2nd step wait until my gum are numb. He would put pressure first to find out if my gums are really numb. He would also let me know that raise you left hand if you feel pain. *3rd step about to pull my tooth. It tooth a little long to pull my tooth (it was a stubborn tooth) because it show on the x ray there only 2 roots but there actually a third grown root. They couldn't see it on x ray but because Dr. Fong is very educated he felt that there another bone in there in the middle. I think my tooth is one of the hardest tooth he very pull. After, Tran explain to me and prepare me for the things I need to do and things I'm not allow to do for the healing of the wound. I didn't request to put me to sleep, in the middle of the process I kinda wish I did but I'm so glad I didn't request for it because I have seen Dr. Fong work very hard and Patiently trying to get that tooth out. Some Dentist would just let it brake the tooth and pull the left over bone after and give you stitches. I am SO HAPPY that he is very skilled and so patience that he didn't want me to go thru a surgery or stitches because he successfully pull my stubborn tooth in a whole pieces. When I first came to see Dr. Fong I was very self-conscious of my smile. As a child I had a large gape between my two front teeth. I had braces for several years which reduced the gap, however by the time I was in college and beyond I was tired of having to wear a retainer to keep my two front teeth together. About three years ago I went to a Dentist in Texas (where I lived at the time) and explained my issue with my front teeth. The dentist put veneers on my two front teeth (a very painful and scary process as they grind down your teeth in order to place the veneers over the teeth). After many, many visits I finally had my two new front teeth - to me they seemed too bright and too large compared to the rest of my teeth, but I decided to deal with it. Three years passed and by this time I had heard of Lumineers - as fate would have it I cracked one of my front veneers and decided to see a Dentist and have a consultation about having Lumineers placed on my teeth. I could not have been more thrilled with Dr. Fong and his staff, they are extremely friendly, they LISTEN to your concerns and desires and make every visit a pleasant experience. I explained my aesthetic problems with my two front teeth to Dr. Fong and we discussed what would be best for me to get an even, beautiful, and aesthetically pleasing smile. After a few visits my new smile was in place, now I'll admit after my last experience having veneers placed on I didn't expect much and didn't get my hopes up. However, when I saw the finished results I was shocked and thrilled with how great my smile looked! I had been so self-conscious of my smile with the two giant veneers on my front teeth, but Dr. Fong worked with me to make my smile look natural and proportionate! Two days after Dr. Fong put my Lumineers on, I was at a concert with my sister and we took many, many pictures. Looking at the pictures the next day, I was in love with how great my teeth and smile looked, I just couldn't believe how easy the whole process was! Just started going to Dr. Fong this year after my manager kept getting on my case to visit a dentist. I hadn't been to a dentist for over 10 years (probably closer to 15), not necessarily because I was afraid, but more because I was just plain lazy. He is great at doing dental work, and he makes things so easy that I actually fell asleep in the chair while he was taking care of some fillings!! Dr. Fong saw me on short notice for tooth pain I had on a root canal I never had finished. This was his first time seeing me, he did an emergency tooth extraction before the tooth would cause me any other pain. I didn't follow the instructions very well after the tooth removal and ended up getting some food caught in the empty socket. Dr fong came in on his holiday time (christmas/new years) to make sure I had a tool to clean out the socket. Dr. Fong went above and beyond to make sure I was in no pain. I just started with Dr. Fong, because I just moved to the area to go to Stanford. If you can find a great mechanic and a great dentist when you move to an area then you will be OK. So, at least now I have a great dentist. Dr. Fong has a great way of giving the novocaine shots--a method that he developed himself. You don't feel a thing. The filling I had was painless, too. In fact I fell asleep a little during the process:) I have never done that in a dentist office before. If he can make a filling that painless for me, then he is probably great with children, too. Another thing: his prices are reasonable and are competitive with area dentists, but not super expensive like some dentists in the area. Also, his exams are very thorough. My last teeth cleaning was in 2009. So when I saw an online deal for a dentist I knew I had to buy it. The deal was for a number of different dentists, but luckily I picked Dr. Fong. The entire experience was great. He first took pictures of all of my teeth and explained what he was going to do and answered all of my questions. Dr. Fong has great "chair-side manner." The cleaning was flawless. He never caught my gum or used too much pressure. After the cleaning, he recommended that I fill two small cavities. He again took pictures so I could actually see the holes in my teeth. He also explained how it was not totally necessary and let me choose whether to do it or not. No pressure, just the right information so that I could make a decision for myself. I will recommend Dr. Fong to anybody looking for a dentist. read more

I went in with a voucher from LivingSocial for a Dental Exam, Cleaning, and X-Ray. Dr. Fong cleaning session was a bit different from the usual dentist visits I had had in the past with other dentists. He did not performed the X-rays but instead, took pictures of my teeth and then showed them to me. His assistant started by polishing (?) my teeth. This usually happens after my teeth have been cleaned. Then, Dr Fong started the cleaning with a horrible tool that made a piercing awful sound and splashed water all over my face (they did not give me a tissue for this). Then, he did a few scratching with a hook and that was it! He asked me if my teeth were clean but did not offer me a mirror to check them out. I got up from the chair and check my teeth on the mirror wall. Also, I had trouble doing a jaw movement that he was directing me to do, and he got impatient and condescending because I could not do it the way he wanted. I went to my car and was about to leave the premises when I noticed two of my front teeth were still stained. I went back in and had to convince the receptionist to tell Dr Fong to see me, again. Good thing there was no other patients. When Dr Fong came out, I tried to show him the still stained teeth, unsuccessfully because I had no mirror, while he looked at me as if I were a joke and said he did not know what I was referring to. But, he took me in and scratched out those stains out with a hook. Overall, I would NOT recommend Dr Fong if you are looking for a dentist who is professional, approachable, patient, friendly, and thorough with his job. This was the first dentist I've seen since moving back to the bay area. I am very suspicious of his dental procedure recommendations. In February, I went in for a cleaning using a groupon special for $30. He used an oral camera to show me what was wrong with my teeth. i liked that process but there were no xrays. He showed me black spots on my teeth that he said were cavities. He said I should get 5 of my cavities filled including some of my old resin cavities to be redone. my old resin cavities were only about 3 years old. he also recommended a wisdom tooth extraction (i could feel the hole in my wisdom tooth with my tongue). i take good care of my teeth and was slightly suspicious that i had 5 cavities. So i decided to get a second opinion at Winchester Dental Place. The rest of my family goes there. I paid for the xray, cleaning. The diagnosis was that i needed my wisdom tooth extracted (no surprise) and that I had no cavities. I asked about the dark spots on my teeth. Dr. Vu explained those were just stains that could be scratched out and were not cavities. Cavities are soft and when he pressed the dental pick on the tooth, it was hard. He removed those stains using a dental pick in less than 5 seconds. I asked Dr. Vu about my previous diagnosis of 5 cavities from a different dentist (Dr. Fong). Dr. Vu said that different dentists have different opinions and that some are more aggressive in their treatment but that I definitely did not have any cavities. I am not sure if Dr. Fong was trying to scam me or if it was overly aggressive preventative treatment. Either way, I sought a 2nd opinion that included a panoramic xray that PROVED I had no cavities. Overall, I am very happy I did NOT go through with any recommended dental procedures advised by Dr. Fong. If anyone is interested I might link online a copy of my diagnosis from Dr. Fong and my 2nd diagnosis from a different dentist and maybe a copy of my digital xrays too. read more

They are friendly. The dentist is willing to answer my questions and keep me informed. He is accommodating to my requests. He always seems concerned about my comfort and stops if an issue occurs (coughing, pain,....). He seems pro-active in addressing potential problems. Reading a couple of these reviews that rate Dr. Fong as less than stellar causes me to wonder if they were really in the same office I go to. I am 65 years old and had been somewhat careless with my dental hygiene when I first saw Dr. Fong perhaps 18 months ago. I have over the years seen a number of dentists since I have moved a lot. My wife recommended him to me, and I was very pleasantly surprised. Some of my observations may be relevant to a couple of the more negative comments that have been made. 1) I discussed at our first meeting my desire to not spend tens of thousands of dollars on a major rework - I simply wanted to retain the teeth I had for as long as possible. Dr. Fong went over all the options and we came up with an affordable plan to address that. He has never tried to persuade me to have procedures that were not already obvious to me. 2) The horrible noise referred to in one review is the ultrasonic cleaning device that spares the patient the length scraping with tools that used to be the standard. It may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I for one much prefer the painless and rapid cleaning this method provides 3) Since I needed several crowns done I was also exposed to Dr. Fong's approach to anesthetic. My family has been going to Dr. Fong for a long time. After high school I went almost ten years avoiding the dentist and my mouth was in shambles. I had a phobia of the dentist. Not being able to smile in pictures or public held me back in so many ways. I never felt comfortable to laugh or stand in front of an audience. These fears and insecurities were a direct result of my teeth. I hated how the front two teeth were uneven in length and weren't flush from side to side. She was so kind and caring that I felt very comfortable. Next, I met Mallory and I knew we would click right away, her positive energy made me feel excited about the upcoming process. Finally, I met Dr. Andrew Fong. He was unlike any other dentist I had visited in the past. The main reason was because I could see that he cared about each of his patients and truly desired to help them. He was very kind and listened to all my needs before he informed me of what needed to be taken care of in regards to my teeth. He never judged me or spoke negatively about my smile like previous dentists. He made me feel super comfortable. From that very first visit I knew that I would never go to another dentist for a consultation. In the end, I got lumineers on four of my upper teeth as well as having my teeth whitened, some fillings, root canal, and crown. I know feel comfortable talking in public and doing the things I never thought were possible. That feeling is priceless. In addition, Aileen was very helpful in setting up appointments around my hectic schedule and always took the time to explain everything in terms of finances. The staff were all very honest and kind. I always felt like home. Usually, I'm always afraid to go to the dentist but not Dr. Andrew Fong's office. My past experiences at dentist offices weren't personal but I feel like I've developed a great relationship with every member a Dr. Fong's office. My husband and I recently went to Dr Fong to have a cleaning. We were so impressed with his knowledge, and the personal attention he gave to us. We were also thrilled to find that he uses the latest dental equipment and is on the cutting edge.
