My wife and I were in Walnut Hills and wanted to grab dinner on a Friday night with a friend. We had just driven past Andy's and decided to check it out. It's got promise, but just falls a little short of what my expectations are. Food: We started with the Mediterranean sampler, which comes with hummus, baba ghannoush, labneh, tabouli and some olives. Loved the hummus and labneh in particular, and the pitas are so fresh and amazing. My wife ordered shish tawook. The chicken was super flavorful, but overcooked. It ended up being a little tough and dry. I had the shish kabob, which was tender and flavorful. I will say, our friend ordered a combo which also included shish kabob, which we both ordered medium, and hers ended up being significantly on the rare side. The rice was wonderful, some of the best I've had at Mediterranean restaurants. Portions are generous, but I think prices are a little elevated compared to other Mediterranean options in the suburbs of Cincinnati. Service: The service was great. You can definitely tell it's a family run place, from the kids playing at a table to the way the staff treats you. We were greeted immediately as we walked in, and shown to a requested outdoor table. Water and menus were brought to us quickly, and the pace of appetizers and entree was great. We were there are a pretty quiet time, and never felt rushed out the door. Facilities: Andy's has some street parking in front. The inside of the restaurant is fairly large, with open, well spaced tables. There is a small out door patio, with maybe 4-5 two person tables and 2 tables for 3. The restaurant is nicely decorated, nothing too fancy. This was really hard to decide on the rating. I chose 3 stars due to the pricing. We decided to come on a Sunday night which was not a busy time. Seated right away and waited on. I got their Mediterranean House Red Wine (I forgot the name). It was $8.00 a glass which I thought was alittle high. As an appetizer, we ordered the the hummus which came with 5 pieces of small pita bread. It was delicious. Very creamy and loved the lemon aftertaste. Bread was hot and fresh. For dinner, I wanted something healthy so I ordered the "Samak" which is an 8 oz. marinated grilled salmon with Tabouli and I substituted the rice for a side salad (house balsamic vinegerette dressing). My husband ordered the Shawarma which is sauteed chicken breast topped with Tahini Sauce with rice. Our meal came out at a decent time. My salmon was decent. They grilled it alittle too long, but I enjoyed my side dishes. My husband did not like his meal. It had no flavor. The server was very courteous and efficient. Restaurant clean. The whole experience was good except the pricing was expensive. I rather would have gone to Ali Baba's Mediterranean Grill located on Red Bank Road. Their pricing is cheaper and the food taste so much better. Don't get me wrong, this place was not bad, but I've had better. read more

When we first moved to Cincinnati a couple of years back, we immediately noticed that there weren't too many Middle Eastern/Med options around. It's too bad, because the cuisine, even when prepared properly with fresh ingredients, can be inexpensive, healthier than most, and delicious. The lighter fare and cool, bright flavors are especially welcome during warmer months. For some reason, Andy's seems to get the most attention among the meager collection of Middle Eastern/Med places in the Cincinnati area. But Andy's is only OK. The menu is way too expensive for fare that can be so simple to prepare. The focus of a restaurant like this is grilled meat: chicken and lamb, especially. As anybody who's operated a backyard grill knows, these items aren't that difficult to prepare competently. And Andy's prepares these things competently, but not brilliantly. Although Andy's much-renowned shish tawook (chicken kabob) is really tasty, it's not a very good value at $17 when paired up as an entree with only some bland rice. Salads at Med places can be fantastic, but Andy's aren't all that special and even side salads cost 6 or 7 dollars extra. Generally, the menu is uneven. We asked for spanikopita, which appears on the current menu, but the waitress told us they now have only a Greek or Lebanese "pizza" instead. We settled for this, but the "pizza" brought to our table had what seemed like DiGiorno's frozen-pizza crust with the spanikopita filling as topping. A pretty dreary appetizer. Andy's does have some very good hummus and felafel. Andy's 8-dollar lunch special--you get to choose three items from a short list--is a great deal. The vibe and atmosphere at Andy's feels pretty hip by Cincinnati standards. The rather odd decor in the main dining area--sort of Middle-Eastern-mural-meets-ski-lodge--is charming, and the rooms are pleasantly lit. (The restaurant is actually chopped up into two or three different areas, including a bar dining area, and up a flight of stairs, a dark rustic area.) Music volume is kept pleasantly low. Although the almost entirely non-Middle Eastern waitstaff is not always on top of things, they are friendly enough. But the bottom line is that Andy's is a casual restaurant, and casual restaurants shouldn't be charging 20 to 30 dollars (assuming you're ordering an entree and appetizer or salad) a person, at least not when they're serving only decent, but not great, food. Andy's is a place that works equally well as a family restaurant or a place to kick back with some old friends. It has been continually remodeled and you can tell as soon as you walk in the front door. It is decorated well and has a great atmosphere. There are a number of rooms and patios, all offering a differing amount of privacy or social interaction, depending on your mood. The staff is friendly and family run. You will most likely get a chance to chat with the owner and his family during your visit. They have a good selection of both foreign and domestic beers, from Anchor Steam to Chimay. They have a little something from many different places. The wine list is respectable and they have a nice selection of specialty drinks, including some Lebanese favorites. They offer Lebanese water pipes if you have an hour to enjoy it with friends. They have a lot of vegetarian selections, and as picky as I tend to be with Mediterranean food, I was very happy with everything I ordered. I really liked this place. It might be the pretty waitresses, it could be the oasis of relaxed rustic decor in this area or it could be may amazing shish tawook (as described as "Winner of the Best Entre Award - Taste of Cincinnati") which was juicy and tender and marinated in a lemony herb baste. The only thing I would add would be yogurt sauce to give the chicken a contrasting bite. Eva was efficient and attentive on a Sat night so I disagree about the earlier review about poor service. We sat upstairs and weren't left alone for long, including company from the bellydancer ;) Come here if you like Mediterranean style food. I've never been to Cincinnati before but with the help of Yelp I felt like a local and also considered Bistro Jean Ro and Pomilio's for dinner on Sat night. read more

Last Wednesday my wife and I met at Andy's Mediterranean Grille for dinner. I had a coupon from LivingSocial that was basically a $40 gift card after paying $20 for it months ago. I had made a reservation online, but found the restaurant mostly empty upon arrival. My wife actually arrived first and was seated a table in a secondary dining area that may have once been an outdoor area. There were two other occupied tables nearby, and just a couple of other people in the first main room of the restaurant and bar area. To get things started we ordered the Mediterranean Sampler ($12) of hummus, baba ghannouj, labneh, tabouli & olives (though we asked to substitute the olives for an additional serving of hummus. Looking at the plate we were served I do think we got the double serving of hummus, but I didn't realize it until now that we didn't get any baba ghannouj. Bummer! The dish was served with a large basket of warm pita bread. I though that the hummus was pretty standard, still good, but the tabouli was better than any I've had before. For dinner I ordered the Shish Tawook ($16), four skewers of marinated & charbroiled chicken breast served on a bed of rice. The chicken had a lot of lemon flavor, which must be a big component of the marinade. Fortunately I had some of the appetizer left to balance the flavor better. The chicken itself was well cooked, juicy and charred on the outside. Four skewers is more than I could eat in on sitting, but the price still seemed a little high for what was served. My wife ordered the Falafel Platter ($16) which provided a large serving of falafel along with a vegetable salad and some yogurt sauce. I stole more than a couple of bites and liked the falafel flavors more than the chicken spice blend. The falafel itself is disc shaped rather than more commonly seen ball. Again we could not eat the entire plate of food, but the price seems very high for a dish that is typically very cheap to prepare. We both enjoyed the food and were happy to finally find a Mediterranean spot in Cincinnati, but with the high prices I don't know that we will be back. Or if we do I'm sure it will be with a coupon of some sort. I never though of Mediterranean to be an expensive meal, but Andy's proves that it can be. Had the prices been lower I would have had very few things to complain about. But as is I find it hard to recommend to anyone even if it was a tasty meal. read more

I am giving four stars because the service was great. The staff sat us quickly and the service was fast. The pita was a bit stale. The hummus was good, creamy, just was lacking some flavor. The salad for the combo, had the BEST dressing. Apparently it was just lemon and olive oil (when we asked), but it also had a hint of garlic. Could have eaten that all day. Our first dining out experience in Cincinnati was somewhat of a bust. Off the bat, it rates two stars for me purely off the service we received. The food was not great. Let me start by saying that we both did get minimal salads as we are both on a diet, but the protein for the salads was well below the standard we expected. The chicken schwarma only tasted like it was grilled with a bit of seasoning. Very bland. And the gyro meat for my salad did not even resemble gyro meat.. So, the service was very good. They were attentive and we were not kept waiting for anything. Now that could be due to us being the only table.... but again the service was very good. read more

I'm crazy about a few things at Andy's and totally meh about the rest. Labneh, hummus, baba ganoush, falafel, kibbeh, all amazing! love, love, love. I'm not much of a wrap person, so I ordered the shawarma over rice, but regretted it once it came out. It would have been very tasty with the chicken, rice, tahini, pickles, etc all jumbled up in a wrap, but having all the items individually scattered on my plate was not as yummy. The kibbeh, wrapped or not, is also very good. I've gotten the falafel platter before, and really enjoyed it. I'm not huge on Mediterranean food, and am not sure I've ever been to a really top notch Mediterranean restaurant, so I don't have a lot of basis for comparison. The vibe at Andy's is nice, and now that I've found a few things I really dig, I'll probably just keep ordering those. The down side is that the bathrooms and much of the seating are up some stairs, so if you had any type of mobility issue, this would be a terribly inconvenient place to go. I've been going to Andy's for as long as I can remember, before I even knew what the heck Shawarma was nor could truly tell you anything about tzatziki. In fact, I believe I cut most of my Mediterranian teeth at Andy's, learning about the spice and preparation of his dishes and they became the benchmark for all others. Andy's has charm. I love sitting in the upper deck overlooking the bar area and watching the hub bub of a restaurant. It's more a gathering where you enjoy the company of the crowd rather than just your own. On a Friday night you can enjoy a hookah and belly dancing as you sip wine and share hummus. Chances are Andy will stop by the table and greet everyone and make a joke or two. The Lunch menu is also fantastic with a 3 course $10 offering that I never turn down. Start off with salad, soup, and a wrap or shish. Overall the ambiance, food, and value make Andy's my favorite Mediterranian in Cincinnati. read more

Just walked out and I have never in my life had such bad food. I am a total foodie and a cook. This food was trash, over-fried, and overcooked. The chicken was so damn dry I had to drink half a glass of water just to get it down. If I had to describe it in one word it was a sickening experience. The service was ok nothing to talk about. I've never had Greek food before so i don't really know what's good or not but i do know that the Lamb Shank was so tender that as soon as i touched my fork to the meat it fell off the bone. It was a huge portion the lamb rice was yummy. The only thing i didn't like was although the sauce it was in tasted good and tangy there was just to much of it. If it weren't drowned in the sauce it would be excellent but even then i recommend tasting the lamb shank for yourself. The water that was served with dinner was awful. read more

This was a satisfying dinner and a good find from Yelp. The falafel appetizer was delicious -- six small but crunchy, tasty patties of falafel, plus big chunks of fresh tomato and pickle. The hummus comes with big, puffy pieces of bread (not pita or naan, which was unusual, but tasty enough). It was OK -- not particularly memorable. If you have two people, I highly recommend sharing the jumbo appetizer platter ($24) as your meal -- hummus, baba ghannouj, labneh, grape leaves, cabbage rolls, samosas, feta cheese, tabouli, olives and falafel. The service was very friendly and attentive, willing to make substitutions. This place is HUGE. I mean, seriously. It's room after room, upstairs and down, and outside patio. I thought this was a good place. I tried it using a coupon from restaurant.com. The coupon was $25 on a $50 order. My guest and I split an appetizer, an entree each (I had the shisk-ka-bob and my guest had a gyro), and split a dessert. After tax, tip, and the coupon it came to $43, pretty good. You'll see others on Yelp disappointed with the cost, so get a coupon and that fixes the value issue. The food was above average, with the pita bread being very good and the steak in the shish-ka-bob being very tender and flavorful. They even rival, but don't surpass my KaRobs (shish-ka-bobs I make)! I have ordered several times by Uber Eats from Andy's Mediterranean Grill, and every meal was wonderful. All special instructions were followed, the portions were more than generous (I got 2 meals from one meal I ordered), the food was beautifully presented, and the temperature was good. The Greek salad that I ordered as a side had the freshest lettuce that I have ever gotten from a restaurant. Ingredients weren't just thrown in, but arranged in a lovely presentation. All items that were advertised as being in the salad were actually all included (I have been shorted on ingredients from other restaurants), and they were generous in the amounts. All ingredients of the salad were fresh. The chicken was delicious, and I had food left to eat the next day for lunch. Andy's has the BEST hummus I have ever eaten! I absolutely love it. I really had high expectations of this place based on all of the awards. Was it good? I suppose. But when compared to the food I've been served in the Lebanese homes of my relatives it's subpar. The tabouleh was full of stems (a big no-no) and contained as much bulgur as tomato (another no-no). I liked the chunky baba and the lebneh was spot on but I'm not sure the hummus was made from peeled chick peas. The lunchtime gyro was over priced and contained what tasted like the same old Kronos Gyro meat cone that places like Mike's Chili & Gyros serves, only Mikes gives you a fully stuffed pita and not the 5-6 thin slices Andy's served me. The fries were good though. The small, thick pita will fill you quickly but you can't wrap a falafel or few chunks of Tawook or Mishwi between it. Will I return? Yes. I love this place, but like a lot of people you love you aren't wild about a few things about them. I mean I love my kids, but I'm not wild about how my youngest has become kind of a hillbilly of sorts. I moved here from California about 24 years ago thinking that a smaller rural environment might be better for them. Instead my youngest has about five guns and hunts squirrels. He doesn't eat them but I don't totally believe him. I know my ex wife has eaten squirrel so if he has eaten any squirrels, it's coming from her gene pool. Andy's is really good. Love their chicken shawarma and lamb kibbeh. They have a Tahziki sauce that's not on the menu and it's addictive like crack. I sat and ate an entire bowl of it with some pita bread and like a python I sat and gestated for two days afterwards. Their portions are very liberal too. A lot of rice. What I'm not wild about is how much it costs. The price is higher than some of the other (and quite good) middle eastern restaurants in the area. Every time I up there it's in the middle of the day and it's pretty empty. Yesterday it was the waitresses kids playing underfoot. Night time it gets more lively. I don't know if the still have belly dancers on Saturday night, but it's worth asking. It's close to the museum, the conservatory and the park. My wife and I were really disappointed. We both enjoy Mediterranean food and were excited to try this place out. We made reservations on a Friday but upon arrival it was clear the reservations were unnecessary. The restaurant wasn't crowded. They sat us in a booth under the disco ball (yeah, I said disco ball) towards the dusty secondary bar in the back (which seems as though its never been used.) The speaker overhead was so loud that we couldn't talk across the table. It took about 10 minutes to get our drinks and then another 30 for our appetizer (hummus and bread). We were so very disappointed with the food (it truly was terrible) that we lost track of the fact that our server couldn't keep either of our drinks full. We finished our meal and sat with dirty picked-over plates in front of us for 25 minutes before finally getting the check. There was an awkward belly dancer occasionally shaking by and making eye contact with us as we waited. Then, another 10 minutes wait for the receipt. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. We were slapped with a $49 bill for 1 beer, a salad, a chicken wrap, and some hummus. What a joke. read more

Went on a Friday night for dinner with a friend. The moment we opened the menu, we realized this place is really expensive. I looked around and it didn't look fancy so I thought food might be great. But we were completely disappointed. We ordered Chicken Shawarma and Veggie grill. The chicken was overcooked and it didn't feel like shaved meat. Meat was bland and rice was very salty. Hot sauce made it eatable. Grilled veggies looked like the veggies you leave on the plate after eating your meat. Neither tasty nor aesthetically pleasing. We paid $50 for this dinner. OMG. That's all I can say. And NOT OMG in a good way! I went here tonight with my husband and daughter. My daughter was performing with the Mayfest Youth Choir at Saengerfest, and we thought Andy's would be a nice place to grab some dinner before her performance. (We have eaten at Andy's on several occasions, but not in the past year or so). We were met by a middle aged man (who we later found out was the owner) who acted as though we were interrupting something very important by walking in the door. He didn't even greet us, just told is to follow him and pointed to an empty table. It was a good five minutes before our waitress came to us, even though few other patrons were there. After we got our water and menus, we waited about another ten minutes. We noticed that the same man who had seated us was engaged in some heavy conversation with two female employees. As my husband approached them to ask whether we could get waited on, one of the females broke away from the group, came to our table, and took our orders. Shortly thereafter, we heard some heated voices from the kitchen speaking in Greek or Arabic or whatever language these people speak as a first language. The voices became more and more heated until they were literally shouting. One of the female employees walked into the kitchen with a stricken look on her face. Then the middle-aged man stormed from the kitchen and announced to the entire restaurant--in English--"I DON'T CARE! I OWN THIS F***ING PLACE!" That was our cue to leave. By this time, we only had a few minutes before my daughter's chorus call. We had to "settle" for a McDonald's that was on our way. But guess what? The waitress there greeted us with a smile, our order was taken promptly, our food was good and served to us promptly, and nobody shouted the F-Bomb in front of my teenaged daughter. I am permanently scratching Andy's off my list of places to eat, and I recommend that you do the same! read more

Awful awful AWFUL service!!! Seriously, unbelievable. I'm a foodie from LA and my friends in Cincinnati warned me that the food was good, but the service was iffy. And how! First, ignored by the hostess despite a reservation. Then we were sat and ignored. Then a loud waiter came and yelled loudly - informing us that because it was New Years Eve, we had to order a $30 prix-fix special. I was just planning on drinking, our whole group wasn't very hungry, and so we complained. THE OWNER CAME OUT AND YELLED AT US! Yeah, she was blaming us and said we should just leave because she needed the table. Most of the table was so embarrassed that we decided to stay. However, the vegetarian was even forced to order the all-meat special!!! Absurd!! I ordered my food to be boxed up because I wasnt hungry. I will NEVER go back. I will also be informing the owner.
