Different views of the beautiful buildings.
    Amy K.

Inasmuch as one can give stars to a cemetery, I'm unsure what to give this one. The buildings are absolutely gorgeous and like nothing I've seen at a cemetery: some Moorish style, beautifully tiled and well-kept (at least on the outside, I didn't go in). Looking at those alone, this would be a marvelous place to be buried. But the grounds are unkempt and run-down, badly. This is a very small cemetery, but maybe they don't have money? Barely any of the grass here is alive, and large patches of the graveyard don't have any grass, just dirt. In those spots, graves are obscured by dried mud. It's not a particularly old cemetery, either; while I didn't explore the northern edges, the oldest graves I could see otherwise were late 50s (the link provided by Big Mama M. indicates that the cemetery is significantly older than that, so perhaps burials started at the northern end). Mausoleums were inaccessible, locked at the front. I had no one there to visit, but I'm not sure what happens when someone does. A worker was taking a break outside the building that seemed to have a flower shop inside; inexplicably, ceramic parrots and bird feeders hung from a tree there. A dog was also tied up and barked at me, the worker made a joke asking if I wanted it. Barking dogs aren't really appropriate when you have people mourning, IMO, but hey, it's not my cemetery and considering I don't know any residents, I'm not about to complain. Some of the graves have long lists of names, people buried in stacks, and I've never seen anything but two-people-deep graves before. I only had time for a short visit, sadly, and I also didn't want to go into certain areas because I felt someone wandering around snapping pictures with her phone might be poorly received by people who were mourning. It sounded like people were in the biggest building, facing Compton Bl., so maybe I can get in and look around?

    Lots of leaves, weeds etc

My father had no plans in place prior to his unexpected passing, other than he wanted to be buried with his fellow serviceman, and everyone at Destiny made the process painless and easy. Something much needed three days after his passing. Every single person we talked to was so kind and helpful. And the prices were much more affordable than we expected. My mother was so happy with them she plans to go back for her own arrangements. Making arrangements for my dad was something I absolutely dreaded and they helped us every step of the way. I cannot recommend them highly enough! Thank you so much Destiny!

My uncle, Eddie Comick, was like a father to me, and losing him this past November to Colon Cancer was incredibly difficult. After searching for the right place, we found Destiny, and I am so grateful we did. From our initial meeting until long after my uncle was laid to rest, Steven was there every step of the way. He truly treated us like family. One moment that meant so much was when Steven sat with my sister and me to view a tribute video of our favorite memories; his presence and comfort during that time were a gift. Steven's attention to detail was incredible. He guided me through every logistics hurdle and even helped arrange the catering for the repass. I honestly don't know how I would have managed without his help. If you are looking for a place that is family-oriented and prioritizes service and fair pricing over profit, I highly recommend Destiny Funeral Home. I know my uncle would have been so proud of his home-going service. Thank you, Steven, for everything. -- Jakela Baylor

Sadly, they don't give you all the details until your stuck with them (LACo sheriff also made us choose a place!). We told them in advance that we would have a lot of people, but they didn't take the time to clean the over flow area. I had to start moving stuff out the way to clear it. They have a dusty piano with extension cords all over the floor presenting tripping danger, I also had to push all those out of the way as best as I could. WE HAD TO BRING OUR OWN TELEVISION TO PLAY A VIDEO OF PHOTOS because the TV they have which is small is also too outdated to connect a phone or play a chip. CRAZY! I sent the lady who was helping us 5 photos of my mom so they could get a good idea of what she looked like (she's barely wearing any make up in any or none at all) and they put so much make up on her red lip stick and wing tipped eyeliner! They curled her hair up even though she never wore her hair like that. I had to TRY to fix it with hair spray and blow drier, I couldn't believe it. I'm glad it was closed casket or it would have been SO EMBARRASSING to let family and friends see her. They made her forehead round even though hers was flat with a square hairline- it even seemed like they shaped her hair line by shaving her hairs off. Her mouth was huge and sticking out because they made her lips so large. She didn't look anything like herself- she reminded me of my old neighbor Mr Montgomery!! We had to bring all our own tables to put coffee out for our family and friends. We had told them we would have a big group and had asked if we could put chairs and tables for coffee on the outside patio area and were told we could, but they didn't even take the time to sweep out there. How embarrassing! I give this place a ZERO! the nicest person here was the man who stayed until closing, I don't remember his name but he was also handsome and kind.

She had such a nurturing hand while still being extremely efficient. Liz made one of the most arduous times in our life bearable. She was intuitive and anticipated what was needed. Liz created a safe space for us to grieve our queen in peace. She maximized the time we were given so that we would not feel rushed. This detail was paramount to our experience with the funeral home. Liz seamlessly continued continuity of care at the church and cemetery. She was never intrusive and even she even had brief moments of levity, that were needed at times, to diffuse potentially difficult situations from occurring. Liz had the amazing Marvin assisting her throughout this process. He was very pleasant, diligent, and took direction extremely well. I was impressed by Funeraria Del Ángel South Gate because of Liz.
