The worst looking! Not sure what the fees are used for. Do not lay to rest anyone or anything there. The place is in ruin. The lawn should be luxurious and green; no landscaping being done at all. I called to Angeles Abbey as I'm in New Mexico regarding my family's buried there. I asked for them to take a picture of my grandparents and Aunt and uncle's headstone as they are buried inside I offered to pay them but I was denied the request okay understand it a little bit I recently became disabled and I'm going down hill at a regular speed not good I couldn't believe it I even faxed the plot id to the gentleman who claimed to be in charge he said go ahead so I did I got confirmation it was received but no response after that. Its funny we pay alot but the up keep is nasty and not maintained properly I'm not only one with a complaint as reading the reviews its sad seems they want business money but no care for the grounds maintenance. I knew it has gone through quite a change within the last years im on ancestry and I'm a grave contributor which means I take pictures of graves headstone s for families not within the areas I was contacted by three people who said that they would assist me and grant me a picture of my family headstone s but its always closed or they fear for the area because its crime and people whom live by. So as I end this I m really upset that it's happening to our families the nice reviews compliments must be treated by different people as maybe per sey. With my disability guess I will have to go back home to visit as Im from Lynnwood CA right next door maybe someone will see this and want to help me out with taking pictures for me. My experience conducting business wth Abbey Cemetery is unprofessional and undenialbly unknowledgeable about how business is supposed to work. When one paids money for a product and expect on time and competent delivery of product it is not doing the customer a "courtesy". Ordering a plague in March and not having expected installation to date August 2, 2023 is unacceptable. Furthermore product is not as described it would for order. Blame shifting to does not work for business. I would just like to received what I paid for. Furthermore I would like to have confidence that my love ones remain are where thery're suppose to be. read more

Perhaps it's rather morbid to review a mausoleum, but while it's here, I might as well. I will say I wasn't here to visit a loved one though; ironically it was for work. This particular place has been used for filming in several different productions, from a court room to a-much talked about-scene in the first season of Westworld. Today it wasn't used for such a thing, but we did take over the place from late noon until sunrise the following morning. Seeing this place in daylight is amazing. While we had some downtime, I walked a few of the halls, looking at the names and years of the lives within the vaults. The oldest I saw was 1824, and I wasn't able to see all of the halls during this visit, but I'm sure there were more that were earlier than that. Fascinating in the fact how some of the names were so typical of that era. There were flowers at some of the sites as well. One hall on the second floor appeared to be all of dark wood, containing urns, hundreds of them. What was depressing-as any cemetery would have this-was the walls that contained children. Most were under the age of ten, but there were a few that simply had one year, no more. Similar to Hollywood Forever, I assume that when one is buried here, they-or more so their families-would have to be okay with filming going on around close proximity to where their loved ones lay. Understanding it may seem disrespectful to some, perhaps others from here consider it just a factor that is considered since it is in Los Angeles. As for the grounds of this place, it appeared to be fine where I was, but after reading the reviews, I hope the upkeep has been better maintained for them since their last visit. Some may be creeped out by such a place, but if you find yourself here for any reason, I hope you can set aside your fears and appreciate the beauty that was put into such an establishment. read more

Inasmuch as one can give stars to a cemetery, I'm unsure what to give this one. The buildings are absolutely gorgeous and like nothing I've seen at a cemetery: some Moorish style, beautifully tiled and well-kept (at least on the outside, I didn't go in). Looking at those alone, this would be a marvelous place to be buried. But the grounds are unkempt and run-down, badly. This is a very small cemetery, but maybe they don't have money? Barely any of the grass here is alive, and large patches of the graveyard don't have any grass, just dirt. In those spots, graves are obscured by dried mud. It's not a particularly old cemetery, either; while I didn't explore the northern edges, the oldest graves I could see otherwise were late 50s (the link provided by Big Mama M. indicates that the cemetery is significantly older than that, so perhaps burials started at the northern end). Mausoleums were inaccessible, locked at the front. I had no one there to visit, but I'm not sure what happens when someone does. A worker was taking a break outside the building that seemed to have a flower shop inside; inexplicably, ceramic parrots and bird feeders hung from a tree there. A dog was also tied up and barked at me, the worker made a joke asking if I wanted it. Barking dogs aren't really appropriate when you have people mourning, IMO, but hey, it's not my cemetery and considering I don't know any residents, I'm not about to complain. Some of the graves have long lists of names, people buried in stacks, and I've never seen anything but two-people-deep graves before. I only had time for a short visit, sadly, and I also didn't want to go into certain areas because I felt someone wandering around snapping pictures with her phone might be poorly received by people who were mourning. If I could give this a minus rating I would. It doesn't have the luster and glory of older days. My sister in law is buried here and we visit her every Christmas. It is not a well kept place to begin with but this year it was deplorable. Most of the cemetery is dirt with tractor tracks among the headstones. Truly we were stunned at the conditions. My husband sought out two groundskeepers, and I use that term loosely, to complain about it and they rudely told him to speak to the owners. Then they went back to washing their truck. I have sent photos to channel 7 news in the hope they can draw attention to this. read more

It makes sense that for my 300th review, I would review something that is so dear to my heart....a cemetery. This is THE most unusual cemetery we have ever visited and probably one of the smallest. We came on the recommendation of a friend who had lived around the corner during his childhood years, when it was the straight out hood, he was the only white kid in a completely non-white neighborhood and he remembers that the masoleums were still open. The cemetery is located in Compton, one of the most notoriously wicked, gang riddled neighborhoods ever immortalized by famous rapppers. I can only imagine how bad things were but like the bad neighborhoods we were grew up here in SD, all those gangsters got old/ended up in prison or dead....we felt no fear being there or in the neighborhood in the early afternoon. Please read the article below, it is an excellent article on the cemtery/masoleum and the pictures are beautiful. This is not like many of the cemeteries we've visited in the past where famous people, beautiful cemetery art and history abounds. The only things that seperates this cemetery from others are the exquisite buildings that dominate the grounds. The article below describes them in far better detail that I could ever do but a couple of things do puzzle me. As you enter the grounds, there are 2, 4? smaller bulidings that are also masoleums which are locked and chained. There is a masolueum here in San Diego which has declared that once 100 yrs has passed since the newest inhabitant was buried there, they will seal the buliding....I wonder if it is the same way here. Both of the HUGE masuleaums were locked and on the way to the back, you will pass a very brightly colored, much smaller outdoor set of crypts that seem to have newly deceased people interred there. There are many 'regular' type folks buried on the grounds and there are also crypts in the back but everything was locked up tight. There were a few people there but they looked as thought they were in the process of burying someone so we chose not to intrude. All is all, a beautiful, but pretty boring place. Try the barbecue place across the street and down a couple of blocks, it's under new ownership and the que was pretty good. An odd thing did happen before we left which still has me shaking my head. As we started to leave thru the front gates, I stopped so that I could look into the dirty windows of the smaller mausoleums to see if I could just catch a look of the crypts inside. I have been in many, many masoleums/cemeteries by myself and have never felt watched, scared, spooked or anything even remotely like that. But as I started to look through the windows, I heard my husband call me in a weird, kind of strange voice, very unlike him. I turned to look at him and that split second that I started to turn back and look into the dirty glass, I knew with every certainty in my heart that someone would be looking back at me, nothing scary but maybe as curious about me as I was about them....but NOTHING happened except a slight cold breeze that passed over the back of my neck. There is nowhere to put a love at in this Cemetery it was opened in 1923. This place is a disrespect to the dead. It's people that have been buried here since the 20s and the 30s come on it's full. Now they are out there grave robbing in other words they are flipping graves..Out with the old in with the new babies plates are now combined with adults. I have visited the cemetery several times, going back to the 50's through 80's. The buildings are spectacular and maintained beautifully inside. The grounds are hard to protect and in a very tough neighborhood. Anyone that visited Sears store got a full view of these buildings and the grounds. The City, County and State just turned their backs to cemeteries like this. This facility should be an ICON of Compton as it will be around a lot longer than we will. If you get a chance at least do a "drive by" and have a look. I recommend it, It'll raise your spirits knowing a lot of souls are just waiting for some grass to be planted. This review is just to clarify as to the possible age of this mausoleum. My great grandparents are entombed there. My grandfather died in 1929, my great grandmother in 1945, so the 100 year rule doesn't apply here. The last time I was there was about 10 years ago, and the mausoleum was open then. It breaks my heart to see such beautiful, unique buildings go to ruin, but there is no one there for upkeep, and one look at the city tells you there's no money in their budget for it either. read more

We was her today at the Angeles Abby Cemetary to leave flowers for our Dad for Father's Day. They would not let us enter with our car because they stated that they were filming a movie. We had to park on the street. The front part of the Cemetary where they were filming is the ONLY PART of the Cemetary that is kept up. The rest of the Cemetary is totally in terrible condition. The grass is completely dried up and is dirt and weeds SAFTY HAZARD!!! There were trail from a tractor or some large vehicle that has left some Plots completely covered with dirt. How can someone allow a movie to made on these premises in these extreme conditions. read more

The cemetery is deplorable. The desert like environment due to the lack of watering of the grounds and deteriorating buildings give the impression of severe neglect. My mother was buried here in the 1960's when the cemetery very beautiful, grass was green and buildings were well maintained. My siblings were shocked when they visited from another state and saw the condition of the cemetery. A cemetery is suppose to be a place of peace and serenity not disgust and outrage. After you see this cemetary and mausoleum for the 1st time, you will never forget it.My mother was buried there in the late '60's. She was buried adjacent to a small sappling. That sappling has grown and truly adds to the beauty of that part of the cemetary. I moved back east to Virginia so I didn't get back there to Compton until 2004 or so.Part of the grounds were very nice, but some were not at all impressive. How sad. Compton has one of the most beautiful memorial parks I have ever seen. I will never understand the paving of crosswalks that no one usesand allowing a truly unique asset to literally fall apart.I doubt that very many Comptonites will read this, but those of you who do,go look at one of your most beautiful and spiritual pieces of property in L.A. County. As a resident of some of the most historical real estate inAmerica, I can see the direct results of what happens when our history and heritage is ignored. I am in Yorktown, Virginia, where American independence was won. The Bitish surrendered to Gen. Washington less than 5 miles from me. Adjacent to Yorktown is Hampton, the oldest continuously English speaking town in all of America. Having been to towns that are genuinely proud of their history, I see where virtually no attempt was made here to preserve it. Current residents seem complacent regarding history and heritage. As for pride in these historic places, much less bragging rights, there is none. It shows not only in lack of knowledge regarding their history but extends to their character. These things I relate now I have never heard of around here, aand I have been to many funerals. We flew into San Francisco, my birthplace. I got a car on Saturday and drove to L.A. Got up and headed to Compton Sunday morning. Stopped several places to get some flowers to put on the gravesite of our mother. It seems I didn't know the right places and ended up going empty handsd. I had a little trouble finding the cemetary, so we stopped at a convenience store for directions. It happens as you age. Apparently the manager realized we hadn't been around there in about 50 years. I was stunned when he told an associate he would be bach shortly, he was going to "lead us to the cemetary". It was a 7Eleven!!! Once there we spoke to a young lady apparently in charge of that entrance. She was to say the least very gracious, knowledgeable and helpful. Our first impression of the park was how quiet it was and were surprised at the rose bushes around the perimeter. I explained I had been unable ti find flowers that morning, and would she mind if I picked one for our mothers grave.Her reply was "pickas many as you feel is appropriate!" Many, many towns you would never encounter this type of treatment when they know they will never see you again. Compton may have a reputation for some of the wrong stuff, but yalso have the people and places that other places will never have. I am a former Compton resident and Lawndale graduate.
