Super veggie burrito with sides of beans, sour cream.
    Kelly M.

We had a nice lunch here. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. I like that they had several choices of vegetarian meals. I ordered the super veggie burrito with a side of beans and a side of sour cream (because I like a lot of sour cream). My burrito tasted pretty good, but if it included cheese & sour cream inside as advertised on the menu, I could not taste either one. My husband had the California burrito and ordered sides of rice and beans. The food was good; it tasted like they use good quality ingredients. We used the parking garage across the street. The portion size is pretty good. The two meals came with decent-tasting chips, but no salsa was provided.

My stop at Angelou's Mexican Grill was my first place to eat in San Jose. Upon walking in I noticed a very comfortable restaurant with a bar area towards the back. My co-worker and were greeted quickly by our waitress. The menu really looked great, but I went with an old standby that I hadn't had in a long time. I love a Chimichanga. This was a deep-fried regular burrito with sour cream, guacamole, and a side of green salad. My co-worker had the Chile Relleno. This consisted of a Roasted Poblano chile stuffed with cheese topped with sauce and sour cream. Unfortunately, it took an unusually long time to get our food at a restaurant that wasn't that busy. My co-worker getting her food several minutes before mine showed up. If there are two people eating together, bring out the food together. It's not hard to time two items. That being said, all the food tasted great. A couple sauces were served with our meal, and their red sauce added a nice bite to the Chimichanga and the Roasted Poblano chile. Unfortunately, it took nearly an hour to get our check after our waitress took our plates. Overall, the food tasted great, our waitress was friendly, but the service took a long time. Whenever we saw her, she was working hard. I give her credit for that. There appears to be a management or ownership issue here with not having enough employees scheduled. Though I had some pluses and minuses at Angelou's, I would certainly be willing to try this place again as the food tasted great.

My husband insists every time we visit San Jose, we have to have their orange sauce. He would not stop pressing me until we get the damn orange sauce. We went to a Mexican restaurant and they didn't have any orange sauce, so he got pouty. I had to look up another Mexican restaurant, make sure they had the orange sauce, and re-order food here. Here (pictured) he is so happy because of the orange sauce. He ordered a whole bottle of orange sauce to go and was carrying it around in a brown paper bag like a beer. The chicken salad was cool - kinda dry.

Came here during my lunch hour. They used to be on the north side of the same street across E Santa Clara, but the moved down. The inside of the store is pretty dark but we ate outside. Their tacos are very good but they're also very expensive. Not sure if I would recommend this place just from the price point alone.

Great spot. We came before a show. We had flautas, burrito, chips and salsa and the bolsa full of margarita. Loved it! Friendly service. Affordable price. Cute inside.

Angelou's is a solid lunch spot for me since it's so close to work, and I'm glad they're finally open again after the remodel! My coworkers and I kept checking to see when they'd be back because we missed having this as an easy go-to Mexican food option. The new decor looks great, definitely a nice refresh. I had the carne asada burrito, and it was exactly what I was craving. The meat was flavorful and tender, and the burrito had a good balance of rice, beans, and salsa. The portion size was filling and the tortilla held everything together well because it was HUGE. The salsa added a nice kick, but I wouldn't have minded a ten more. Those salsa containers are tiny. Service was quick, which is perfect for a lunch break. The cashier was really sweet. They always get your food out super fast which is nice when you're in a rush and have a million meetings. Overall, it's great to have them back in business, and I'll definitely be back to try more!

My whole burrito was like this. There was a total of 7 burritos and all looked like this. This is sad and not a way to treat your customers.

Came here on a Thursday afternoon for lunch after looking up nearby restaurants and I was craving a burrito and I found Angelou's. The place has great decor and it has a real nice vibe. The people were very friendly and it wasn't busy at all which was great for me. I got the asada super burrito and couldn't wait to try it, but I was disappointed. The tortilla was really soft and wasn't crispy at all. Looks like it was rushed even though it wasn't busy at all. The meat was flavorful and delicious, but the soft tortilla didn't make the burrito enjoyable. They do offer orange and green salsa and also there's nice bar set up as well. Overall not a place I'd go out my way to eat at if I'm craving Mexican.

I ordered a asada super burrito and all i got was mainly rice....

I ordered a Asada super burrito. And what I got was a rice burrito...... $16 for a rice burrito

Came on a Saturday to dine in during the day and ordered a burrito for a quick bite. It's actually rather a huge restaurant because it has more seating compared to other Mexican restaurants. Since we came in the day, the restaurant only had 3-4 other tables at the table and we were able to be seated quickly. They only had one waitress/cashier working, but I anticipate this restaurant getting busier and louder towards the night. Cali Moco Burrito ($14.25) - 5/5 stars. We only ordered a Cali Moco Burrito but it was great. The fries in the burrito were still crispy, the egg was runny, and the entire burrito was pretty flavorful. Also got the green and orange sauce which elevates the burrito.

I've come here a handful of times as I work in DTSJ. This new location is MUCH nicer than their original location. I can with some coworkers to order lunch to-go on a Monday around noon. I ordered (and paid for) the Beef Enchiladas ($22) with Green Sauce and a Mineragua Sparkling Water ($4). The Enchiladas were kinda pricey in my opinion for Mexican food. Minus two stars for giving me Chicken instead of the Beef I paid for. The presentation is sloppy. The rice and beans were meh and are just filler food. Service is just ok. The cashier isn't the best at giving recommendations/answering questions about the food. They appear to have a full bar so this might be the spot for Happy Hour or dinner.

Not my personal cup of tea, but they do also offer sake and a few beers also. The first time we went, we ordered the arancini, bucatini, and the heritage pork katsu. I am a big advocate for trying new things every time I go to a restaurant, but it was so good I ordered the same thing the second time I went. Arancini is flavored with Japanese curry with creamy fontina in the center topped off with kimchi mayo. Holy f. These quite literally put the traditional Italian ones to shame (sorry not sorry). Next was the bucatini. It had tom yum butter, lime, basil- all the fix ins of what you want from tom yum flavors with the luxuriousness added from the butter. It was sinful. Last and certainly not least, is the pork katsu. I cannot even remember the last time I ordered a pork katsu, but something told me to order it. Thank God I did, as it quite literally changed my life. If they ever take it off the menu I am not sure I would be OK. It is crispy and is swimming in this koji butter, but the key is that it is NOT greasy. I quite literally think about it all the time. To the point where I had it twice in a week. Service was great, bartenders are so friendly. The place is cute and vibrant. Keep in mind it is small- limited seating inside and a small patio outside. But so worth the wait. Ambiance 5 Wine 5…read more Service 5 Food 5 So why the 4 rating... TBH there's a good chance that I'll adjust it soon, but if I could give a 4.5 I would. First the knock, and to be fair, it's probably just an opinion / idea. Given the birth of natural wine and the South Bay, it would be wonderful to see a curated selection of tasting flights, no more than two or three options with anywhere from 3 to 6 wine wines each, priced accordingly. Maintaining a proper wine menu when all you do is natural wine can certainly be a challenge. If you wine flights depending on what you have would certainly elevate the customer experience by educating more people natural wine and helping them make better choices when it comes to a bottle purchase. I paid $61 for a bottle that was recommended, and at that price point I wonder how many people who are new to natural wine might be turned off. Chris was a wonderful host and certainly the right person to engage with customers around their various wines. Given how small the space is and how busy it can get, a weekly tasting flight menu might be a good way to engage those customers who are waiting to order at the bar and perhaps even spark a more productive conversation with Chris. We ordered the peach and ricotta dish with Thai basil... wow, a wonderful surprise. Peaches are always battling in and out of the top spot on my summer fruit list and this combination was downright dirty and delicious! We also ordered the raw oysters with watermelon mignonette. Another wow! I didn't expect the little spice kick and it was a perfect pairing to the sweetness of the watermelon. If anyone knows the recipe let me know, I'd bottle that mignonette and take it with me wherever I have oysters!! Overall, a great experience and I most definitely look forward to going back!
