Every time I'm back in San Jose, I always make sure to stop by here. Cafe Rosalena was always a staple during my college years and I'm always in awe of their continuous growth. I think I got the 2 meat combo - chorizo and bacon with a horchata latte. I always forget how big the burritos are but it was fire as usual. Heard a lot about this place and have been meaning to try it but haven't got around to it until today and unfortunately will not be ordering from them again or at least not a burrito. A coworker who offered to order on door dash said he was getting burritos and who doesn't like a breakfast burrito, so I went ahead and ordered the one with chorizo and sausage and let me tell you it was huge and very well rolled but the flavor was just not there! Here are my pros and cons on it. Pros: Size and presentation Cons: price for a burrito lacking taste. Salsas not fresh, their green one was most likely store bought tasted like the Herdez bottled one. Orange one had a little more potential it's what gave some life to their burrito however it was very thick not able to spread easily, had to utilize a utensil to spread it. :( read more

Walked in for lunch on a rainy Saturday and it wasn't too busy. It's an order at the counter and pick up your order when called, open seating. Medium sized restaurant with counter seating, booths, tables, outside tables. Only 1 bathroom. Free street parking. We ordered the asada steak burrito $14.70 (+$2.75 avocado), chorizo burrito $12, and iced horchata latte $6.25. These burritos are huge and loaded with ingredients. Great value. The steak burrito was better than the chorizo overall, but the steak quality is noticeably poor. Lots of tough and chewy pieces. The chorizo burrito lacked ingredients that would give it more moisture and complex flavor, it just tasted like protein and carbs. Definitely needed sauce. Horchata latte was good. Not sweet, good flavor The orange sauce was excellent, I'd say on par with La Vics, except thicker/creamier and not spicy. Green salsa was decent, it's supposedly their most spicy, but that wasn't spicy either. Overall, it's a decent breakfast burrito spot with a great orange sauce. Ordered through DoorDash and got an asada burrito bowl, a BTLA sandwich, orange juice, and an iced latte: Pros: BTLA and orange juice was great! Great amount of food in the sando and the OJ here rarely misses. The iced latte was also good and I appreciate the lengths they'll go to protect the lip opening with tape to prevent doordashers from sneaking a sip Cons: The asada bowl and my missing green salsa I was super bummed that the salsa was forgotten in my order but was excited to have the bowl nonetheless. I can agree with other reviewers though that there is a lack of taste from the food and it was much more noticeable since I had to eat it plainly. I always get their breakfast burrito Florentine. Well I'm not vegetarian, I love it with egg whites and the avocado spinach that comes with it. I don't know what it is, but it's better than a lot of other places breakfast burritos and it's huge. You have to get their orange sauce. It's kind of like the one that you get at La Victoria's. I'd give this place a 3.5 star just based off of my all meat breakfast burrito. Service is great, the team members are attentive and friendly. My first time here so I decided to go all out on the all meat burrito. It is HUGE. Biggest breakfast burrito by far i've ever had, bigger than any super burrito I've ever had as well. It comes packed with bacon, chorizo, sausage, and ham. Now it is a lot of toppings but unfortunately it lacks flavor, pretty bland with the egg and potatoes. I ordered a chorizo burrito which took about 10 min to be ready. You get to choose red/orange/green salsa and I went with orange. The burrito itself was ok in my opinion. I felt like the potatoes and chorizo were pretty dry and I really needed the sauce to power through the burrito to add more moisture and flavor. Sauce was quite delicious though! We DoorDash-ed these ~$20 burritos and not once did hubs and I suggest just sharing one. We could hardly finish them!! They are very generous with their portions. From the eggs, the meat, and to the sauces. There is plenty. In fact, you do not need to pay for extra sauce. What they provide is sufficient. The issue is, it's heavy. I truly wouldn't mind paying for a skinny burrito that just gives me my 2 eggs and sausage. Here, one burrito can truly fill up 2 bellies. The tortilla was soft and inside it was the perfect ratio of eggs, chorizo, and potatoes. For only $12, I'd say this is a pretty good deal. Of course, I also had to try their famous orange sauce. I even got an extra one for an additional 50 cents. Unfortunately, the orange sauce was kind of underwhelming for how much it is hyped up. It wasn't as flavorful as I was expecting; it was mostly creamy with a mild spicy kick to it. However, it did pair very nicely with the burrito. I wanted to eat this after getting groceries on a Sunday morning and the taste of this breakfast burrito is just amazing. It's super hearty and filled with potatoes, eggs and bacon and then pan fried to get that crispy skin. I ordered online and it took a little bit long (30 min) to get my order. This place was recommended by a friend. We parked right in front and walked in with only one customer in line. I ordered an Ice Horchata Latte and an Asada Burrito my friend got the All Meat with black beans and Jalapeños. We were told it would be about 15 mins. They have plenty of seating and outside seating as well. The Latte was ready first. It was cinnamon- and tasted like horchata so no surprise. This spot is my favorite and probably best breakfast burrito in the Bay Area hands down. The portions are generous and usually feeds me for 2 meals since I tend to split it and I eat a lot. The price is also unbeatable for the amount you get. During lent I usually order the soyrizo every Friday but when off lent I love the chorizo or bacon breakfast burrito. You can't go wrong with any of the other choices since I tried all and they are all so delicious. The sauce pairs really well and in my opinion is the best for breakfast burritos. The ladies are all super customer friendly and a joy to enter establishment. And ooooh let me tell you about the Soyrizo! ordered : no meat breakfast burrito (orange sauce) the value for the food is pretty great. i have ordered burritos for similar price and received half of what i got here. however, more is not automatically better. it all just sort of landed very one note. no real seasoning at all on the potatoes, and the orange sauce was lacking any real notable characteristics too. i'm typically not one to not finish a meal, but about halfway through i realized i wasn't eating this because it was particularly good, i was just eating it to finish it. with a burrito this big, you need it to be pretty exceptional to get through. this just felt really bland ultimately. i have absolutely had much worse, but im sure there are better breakfast burritos in SJ and this is not one i would every go out of my way to come back to. read more

These breakfast burritos are enormous and hit the spot! I usually could inhale any super burrito but I'm only able to eat half when I'm here, it's perfect for sharing. Food 5/5: I got the bacon burrito and orange sauce. Bacon was crisp, eggs were silky, and the potatoes were creamy. The sauce isn't spicy, very creamy and my boyfriend who can't handle spice even liked it, he said it's closer to sour cream than to chili sauce. Our order only took about 15 minutes even though it was quoted to be 30 and by the time it was ready a spot opened up. Sidewalk was clean enough and it wasn't as noisy as inside the café. We were able to sit on a clean wooden table under a shady umbrella. I'm knocking off a few stars not because of Café Rosalena itself, but because our breakfast was interrupted by a woman who was clearly either mentally ill and/or a drug addict that was screaming obscenities outside at the customers, she just wouldn't go away and at one point somebody from inside told her to go away and never come back. But she did come back, twice, and continued to scream, at some point stopping in front of our table and stood there for at least 3 minutes spewing the same nonsense. This was the only thing that spoiled an otherwise perfect breakfast. It is downtown San Jose so it is somewhat to be expected, but still not welcomed. The burritos are huge, definitely big enough to share if you don't eat much, but so good you might not want to! I really liked that they have signs showing the different types of salsas. I went with the red salsa since it wasn't spicy, and it had great flavor. The others tried the orange salsa, which seems to be the most popular, one person loved it, another thought it was a little thick, but everyone agreed it was tasty. Breakfast burrito add avocado! That's it! Plain and simple. This place lives up to the hype. I was fortunate enough to pick up a phone order very quickly during my mid week visit. However, I did notice signs for where to order and queue leading me to believe that this place will be packed during peak hours. I had heard such great things about this place so I was excited to try it! Was super disappointed with my orders though. The chicken in the Mexican fiesta salad was inedible. It was greasy and also really gummy and chewy/rubbery. We couldn't eat it! The rest of the salad was not fresh and tasted like something from a fast food place. The vegetarian burrito was also really mediocre. It had a strong fake flavor, almost like margarine? Maybe it was the American cheese? Idk, just not very good. Highly Alarming Food Safety Issue I have been a loyal customer of Cafe Rosalena for the past few years, but the recent, repeated incidents of foreign objects in their food have compelled me to write this review. Their food safety standards have let me down big time. I initially dismissed the first occurrence as a rare one-off incident. However, upon giving them a second chance, I was shocked to find not one, but two different foreign objects in a single burrito. Details of the Objects Found - The first object was a piece of hard plastic. - The second object was a piece of plastic wrapping paper (the kind used for lining shelves). This kind of negligence during food preparation is highly alarming and poses a serious health risk. Finding multiple pieces of non-food material--especially hard plastic and large wrapping material--demonstrates a profound lack of attention to basic quality control and safety. I sincerely hope the management at Cafe Rosalena addresses this immediately and implements strict food preparation standards to fix this issue before it leads to serious consequences for one of their customers. read more
