This spot is located inside an old liquor store on the corner of the street. I would have never known about it without the exposure from social media. For that I am grateful because their burrito was absolutely delicious! I got the carne asada super burrito which came with all the fixings. The guy making our burrito included spicy (pickled?) chilis and salsa verde and rojo in our bags. He was so sweet and friendly, I hope more people come to discover this place! The burrito was humongous!!! A perfect ratio of meat, rice, beans, etc. There was delicious flavor throughout and was extremely filling. I was able to get two meals out of a burrito! There was a development proposal notice placed on the outside of the liquor store stating that they will be building high rise apartments in their spot. Best tacos i've had in awhile! I inhaled mine so took a pic of my partners tacos after he already ate some. I got the asada and shrimp tacos $4 and $5 dollars. It comes with what tastes like homemade tortillas, onions, cilantro , lime, and spicy pickled carrots, onions, jalapenos, and red and green sauce! And holyyy the asada was not overcooked and gave alot, they gave me like 5-6 shrimps in one taco! And i love love love the included sides or lime and pickled veggies! It was sooo good. This taqueria is located inside of delmas market. I just moved into the neighborhood and had this spot on my Foodie list. I got the Carne Asada Burrito. This thing was huge!!! Got the super burrito (it was 13.25 + tax and tip) with carne asada. Such a good deal, considering it came with lots of meat, beans, Mexican rice, cilantro & onion, cheese, lettuce and guacamole. I've been going to this place on and off over the years. While the flavor seems to change slightly every few years depending on whos manning the taqueria, its consistently been a better burrito than the surrounding. It's always packed with the good stuff, and they always give you a side of pickled something and salsas. 13.50 for a super burrito used to be steep, but now its pretty average. This place is a hidden gem inside the "Del Mas" store. I ordered a super burrito al pastor and it was amazing. I couldn't believe the size! You definitely get your moneys worth here! The owner doesn't skimp out on the meat. The Al pastor was flavorful and the burrito was just packed with everything from meat, Mexican rice, beans, queso, avacado. We were in town for an event at the SAP center and there was about a 2hr intermission and we wanted lunch somewhere within walking distance. I found this place on yelp and wanted authentic Mexican food since we were in the bay. I saw the great reviews and decided to try this place. It's in a mini mart or liquor store so there's no way to dine in and they accept cash only, FYI. There is some seating near by at the Amtrack station across the st with benches only and no tables. But if you don't feel comfortable staying in this area, then maybe try finding a park. I know there were a couple near the SAP Center but, near this business, I'm not sure if there are any other parks within walking distance. I had the cabeza taco and a cabeza meat torta and added beans. Cabeza meat isn't always available like authentic Mexican places, so it's great that you can order it here. That had to be the best torta I've ever had and again, I added beans and the employee made it exactly how I ordered it. The way she grilled the bun for the torta, it's soooooo good! The cabeza meat is stewed in a soup like broth like it traditionally is in Mexico, yum. The taco was awesome delicious too. If I knew I could finish it, I would've ordered a carnitas taco but already was so full with the torta. My dad ordered a carne asada burrito with just meat mostly and said how great it was. He also noticed that the flour tortilla looked like it had been made fresh or at home. I'm not sure if the corn tortillas are made fresh or not? Iv been working down the street from this hidden gem for about two years. I kept hearing everyone talk about how good their burritos were. . Finally I decided to go find out for myself. They have plenty of parking in the back. I went in around noon on a Friday. There was no one there which was great because I was starving! I ordered the super burrito. It comes with rice,beans,sour cream ,avocado, cheese and your choice of meat. Also got tacos. 1 steak 2 Carnitas and 1 lengua (tongue), I got the salsa on the side. They have two salsas, red which is spicy and the green which is very mild. It all came out to around $30. That's not including drinks. A bit pricey but so worth it!! The burrito was delicious! The meat was full of flavor, I haven't had a good burrito in such a long time. The tacos were great as well. I would get the lengua and steak again. Taqueria inside a liquor store. It's actually pretty common especially in San Jose. If you've never seen or been to one, GO! You won't be disappointed! Craving a burrito and even some trucks/restaurants doesn't compare to Imperio. They are definitely NOT skimpy about their burrito. Best veggie burrito in San José! She offers different types of veggie options. Her rice and beans are great, which is often lost in burritos, but super important in a veggie. Without the cheese and cream you can appreciate the flavors in her ingredients. I Really enjoyed the soyrizo burrito. Why am I just discovering you now?? This place is the epitome of a hidden gem. I've driven by multiple times but never realized there was a taqueria inside their corner liquor store. In two weeks since discovering this place, I've been here 3 times. The employees behind the counter have always been friendly and, even though the woman that works the weekend shift doesn't seem to speak English, she completely understood my order (I know zero Spanish) and was friendly throughout. THE MEAT. Don't get me started on the al pastor. It is so tender and delicious, it's what's been bringing me back. I had both the al pastor taco and burrito. The taco was good, but whatever sauce they put on it is SPICE-Y. It hurt so good. But for the sake of my body, I'll probably ask them to skip that sauce in the future. The burrito is huuuge and stuffed with goodness--all for $9. My BF and I split one and that was the perfect amount for the both of us. 4 and a half stars, located inside of a convenience store, on the "wrong" side of the highway, cash only...everything added up to this being an amazing Mexican place, and it totally was. Sure, maybe it's just that they fry everything (presumably in distilled deliciousness), but damn is it good. I got the burrito and the quesadilla and man oh man, those were some fantastic foods. They were out of chorizo (I can only imagine how good that must be), so I went with suadero (brisket) and el pastor. I think my favorite was the qusadilla which is crazy in that I'm usually not a huge fan of them, but the favor was an explosion of awesome. The salsa is also really good; it's definitely spicy, too. Don't forget to ask for extra. Although the variety might not be here compared to some other mexican restaurants (and vegetables are few and far between), this might be one of my favorite Mexican places ever. The biggest issue is that the parking in this neighborhood is "permit only" "at all times" which kinda sucks. I guess your choices are to brave it and hope, to pay for parking nearby (SAP center stuff?), or to uber in? Not sure. I know it's not their fault but it's still annoying. It's the classic "I passed this place this place a million times" and never thought to get food here. I had one of those back to back meeting days and all the places I would normally go were too far away. It was a dark and dreary evening, and I needed to break the spell. I had been cooped up in the House for over 48hours and it started feeling like lockdown. I decided to brave the streets of downtown SJ for some fresh air, and to fill the hole in my belly. So many choices for food, but was really just thinking about having a beer with local street residents and soaking up the environment. Since I wasn't that interested in a 40oz, I decided on some Mexican Food. I found my way to Imperio Taqueria. Had walked past hundreds of times, but never had any cash money on me to spend. I was greeted by a nice cook who was filling in for the evening. I was hankering for a quesadilla, but then I saw they can serve up Shrimp Burritos. Sounds good to me, I am getting tired of Al Pastor anyways. So to describe the burrito. Perfecto. The SUPER SOFT flour shell was grilled on the stove top, the shrimp was perfectly cooked (see video). This burrito was good size, and packed with fillings. The only thing that was skimped on was my side salsa, it is my only voice of concern. They even supplied me with the authentic jalapeños, carrots, and limes on the side. This place is worth a visit or three. For reference you can sneak to it before or after a Sharks game. read more
