    Drive through

I love that they have a drive through, and be aware that your food is made to order so it might be awhile. The beans are so good, as are the carne asada tacos. What's not great is the surly service, which I've experienced on every visit I've had (10+ times) over the last year.

The food was super good, and the customer service was awesome. I'd totally recommend checking it out.

Carne asada super burrito with no beans and extra onions. Perfection!

My husband and I go to El Jalapeño Rojo every single Friday without fail, and it has become our standing date night. We look forward to it all week because the food is always spot on and the service is consistently great. There is something really comforting about knowing a place will get it right every time, and this spot absolutely does. My go to is the carne asada super burrito, and it is honestly the best one I have found in the area. The carne asada is charcoal grilled and then crisped on the flat top to order, so it has that perfect smoky flavor and texture. It is lean, flavorful, and never greasy. From day one they have never minded my custom order of a carne asada super burrito with no beans and extra onions. A lot of places get irritated with special requests, but here they just make it happen with a good attitude every time. My husband is all about the carne asada nachos, and they are loaded in the best way. There is plenty of meat, the toppings are balanced, and the chips stay crisp under everything. He does not share them, and I understand why. I also want to give a big shout out to the people who make this place what it is. Lorena in the kitchen is incredible, and the consistency in the food shows how much pride she takes in her work. Guadalupe at the register is always friendly, patient, and welcoming. Week after week they are the same nice people they were on day one, and that is a huge part of why we keep coming back. El Jalapeño Rojo is a place that never misses, and we are grateful to have it as our Friday night tradition.

Burrito with cheese and sour cream when I say no to any of those things

The cashier was very aggressive. She told me not to yelled at her when I wasn't yelling at her at all. I don't know what's her problem but she is very mean with customers. Definitely, she doesn't have a clue about customer service at all. Instead of greeting me she started yelling at me when I not even have started to place my order. I also heard she was arguing with the customer before me. I ordered a super burrito and asked for no cheese no sour cream, but my burrito came with lots of cheese and sour cream when I specifically said no cheese no sour cream. I went back to fixed my burrito but she ignore me and was talking shit about me with the line cook. I just hope that the manager hear about what her employees are doing because she loosing business with these kind of employees.

Update** Still loving this place. Quality, inexpensive, tasty food that is easily accessible. My favorites are: - Asada Tacos: these are so flavorful and they put so much meat! - Chile Relleno: This was really good and came with fresh tortillas, beans, and rice. The portion was so large I couldn't finish it. The tortillas were also really good. - Carnitas Nachos: Classic Nacho cheese, guacamole, salsa, sour cream, and jalapeños. The carnitas weren't dry. My husband liked this, but next time he wants to try it the Asada Nachos next time. - Horchata: This was yummy and not watered down. Other menu items we've tried: - Bean and Cheese Burrito: this was HUGE! It was the same size as the super burrito and the beans were flavorful and they use real cheese. Very filling for being a "side". I liked this one. - Al pastor taco: My husband ordered one and it came with pineapples. He said it was okay, but he preferred the asada. - Chips and Guacamole: the guacamole was more of an avocado salsa. I would pass on this. - Asada Sope: Asada had nice flavor and there was 1/4 avocado on top. But, I preferred the taco over the sope. We tried to order the Sonoran Hot Dog, but it was sold out on a Friday night. We will have to come back to try it!

Food was good but now it's not. They used to crisp the taco tortilla and now they don't and the meat is very dry. My biggest issue is they keep raising their prices where I just paid $4.50 for a veggie taco. It's actually more than the chicken taco that is $2.99 They also used to give you lime with your order and now you have to ask for it. We have been going here for years and I'm sad to say we won't be going here anymore We used to recommend people to this Taqueria, which we will not be doing anymore.

Average size burrito for a cheaper than average price. Didn't blow me away but still nothing wrong with it. They make you pay extra if you want more salsa and their salsa containers are smaller than average. The salsa is just your average green and red salsa, I've had better

This was my first time coming and will be my last . First the service could need some improvement, like how to speak to a customer, in a such a manner of the care for the customer needs and not keep cutting them off . That should have been my first red flag but I was hungry and so was my child and it was near where I was having an appointment. Once the food was ready i picked it up and eat there the burrito was very salty and very spicy rice was a bit hard too so meaning it was undercooked. The Chile Relleno was very very oily take a bite and you can taste the oil from it ! And very salty too , and the rice was also undercooked beans salty . Overall the only thing that was good was the drink Jamaica and the convenience of the location

Refried beans and rice are the best taste here especially in your burrito. The horchata and pineapple drink is too watery not sweet at all.

Plenty of parking available since the restaurant is in a strip mall. It wasn't too busy when we got there, but then it started picking up. There was only one server working and she was really hustling to meet everyone's needs. Plus, she was friendly. I had the carne asada burrito, it was good but nothing over the top that made it stand out. My friend had enchiladas with mole. We were most excited about dessert and decided to share the churros and Tres leches. It was a nice touch that the churros and Tres leches did not come plain, a little pizzazz since they were both served with berries, whipped cream, and a cajeta style sauce. Both of the desserts were so good and a perfect touch of sweetness.

It is not what I consider authentic Mexican food.

Unfortunately inflation and the economy has changed the prices and food sizes, but at least it still tastes good. Some of my favorites here over the years have been the salmon tacos, Esquites, Enchiladas De Camarone and suizas, and the bacon guac. I used to not bat an eye and order whatever I wanted, but now I do have to think a little bit more so that the bill doesn't get too high. This location has a super cute front patio, it's bright, light, and airy, transporting you out of San Jose and right to a vacation mode. Even though it's on a pretty busy road, the traffic isn't usually distracting. Parking in the area can be hard, there's a couple paralele spots and then it's all neighborhood parking on the side of the street with the restaurant. Across the street can be a little bit easier.

They have seating out front inside and in the back, but the place was pretty full. Nonetheless, we were seated quickly as we had a reservation. It is a good idea to call ahead and make one. The prices are high, but hopefully all their people are making a good living and the portions are enough for our appetites at least. I had the shrimp enchiladas, and my wife had the vegetarian tacos with a side order of scrambled eggs. There was nearly a mixup as the waiter thought we wanted to order an egg taco and that's considerably more expensive but we got it straightened out with the maitre D. We also shared a Paloma cocktail with which has a pretty color and delightful taste.

This made it so seamless to reserve here. Our group got there at opening and our table was ready and most of the group was already seated when we got there. Drink orders were flowing as the waitress caught up to me and I got a cafe de olla. We browsed the menu and the more I looked the harder it was to pick one thing. I ended up choosing chilaquiles with a bandera sauce and carne asada as the added protein. The rest of the table got all different types of dishes from carne en su jugo to birria to omelettes. While we enjoyed each other's company sipping on our cafecito I enjoyed the ambiance of the space. Nicely decorated for the holidays. Since it was opening time it wasn't as loud as I imagine it can get in there. The sun did shine on the faces of those facing the windows which was not enjoyable for them. There was no way to cover the sun either since it was coming in from the top windows with no shade. My food came out along with the rest of the plates and we went right in to enjoy them. My favorite chilaquiles was covered in the white sauce. The red and green were good but the white sauce was my favorite. The carne was cooked well but I could taste it wasn't marinated or lacked flavor. I didn't get a knife to cut the meat so it was very difficult to enjoy a piece with my chilaquiles. It was hard to cut with a butter knife. I thought it would be a piece of steak but it was a piece of carne asada. Eggs were scrambled and cooked well. The whole plate was filling, had flavor, and was a good portion. The cafe de olla had a good flavor but a tad sweet for my preference. The space in here is a vibe. A fun place to enjoy large gatherings. I came for breakfast but will update when I come back to visit for dinner. Bathrooms are clean. Staff was welcoming and efficient in taking care of our group. Hospitality was a 10/10. Parking in the am was a breeze but at prime time I can see it being a complete nightmare so plan accordingly. I enjoyed my visit and will come back to check out the dinner menu.

As I entered the restaurant there was the aroma of fresh tortillas being made. Upon sitting down I was presented with fresh homemade corn tortilla chips along with two salsas (mild and medium) Tortilla chips were thick with just the right amount of crunch. Tasting the green (mild?) salsa was my favorite. It had a great tomatillo flavor with a creamy spiciness. It was a good reprieve from my main dish. A Paloma was my drink of choice this time. I'll preface this by saying I'm not a fan of tequila but when presented with the cold clay mug rimmed with salt and topped with orange and grapefruit, I was impressed. It was delicious, so refreshing, fragrant, and cold! A nice counterbalance to my meal. Chilaquiles was a dish I wanted to try. They had delicious chips again cooked in salsa verde. Covered with eggs (any style) fresh crema, avocado, and onions the chilaquiles exceeded my expectations. So simple yet so flavorful. Mixing up quantities of ingredients in each bite made for a delicious experience. My favorite element being the sharpness of the onions which cut the richness of the dish. I'm generally not a fan of refried beans but these ones had such a unique and satisfying flavor which complimented the dish well. My server, Luis was very helpful and quick to check in and make sure I was doing okay! I cannot wait to try out their fish tacos and various drinks from the menus next time!
