Once I realized the berry pancake picture was AI, the manager had me try vanilla and cheesecake glaze (complimentary) that made it look similar to the photo.

Grove Tavern is easy to pass by on the crowded strip in downtown Lombard. But DON'T PASS IT UP!…read moreThis place fires on all cylinders and is a must-visit! We stopped in for dinner on a Friday night and were able to snag a table in the busy place. We setup in a cozy corner and began looking over the menu. Our waiter stopped by and we immediately knew he was going to be top notch. He was so friendly but very chill and seemed like he was reading our minds when it came to suggestions. After finally deciding, we placed our order and were impressed by the speed at which our food came out! It was fast for a sit-down restaurant! While we devoured our meal, which was INCREDIBLE by the way (I had the meatloaf and it was delicious!), our wonderful waiter continually checked in to see if we needed anything (but not to an annoying level). Then the manager (I think?) stopped by and even the owner (which I found out who he was later) asked how things were. And it wasn't a check-the-box, they were genuinely interested in making sure everything was to our liking. The restaurant/bar-ish is a bit of a mix. It has a bar feel but is right on the cusp of being something more upscale. And they should embrace that because their food and service level support something leveled-up! On the way out I tapped the owner on the shoulder and told him what an amazing time we had - he appreciated it. We'll be back here again, many more times!

The Grove offers really good vibes and atmosphere and really just okay food unfortunately…read more We love the outdoor patio, service is quick and it's a great place to get a drink and maybe some appetizers but we haven't been impressed yet with the entrées. The most recent time we went, I ordered the French dip which was tasty, but there was not nearly enough roast beef in the sandwich, so it was very bread heavy. My partner ordered the brisket and for a place that's supposed to be known for barbecue...This brisket was not good. Low in flavor, high in fat. The cocktails were nice and presented very beautifully and we also enjoyed it an ahi tuna appetizer and that was the best thing we had there. We might come back to enjoy the outdoor patio, but plan to share more appetizers and do drinks.

The frappe was also really good. My friend ordered the avocado toast, which she liked, but her caramel macchiato was off at first it tasted mostly like milk with a little caramel. They did fix it though, so I'll give them credit for that. Only downside was she ended up feeling like she got food poisoning afterward. The egg on her dish had a thin film on it, so we're thinking it might not have been fully cooked, which is concerning. Service itself was good and the staff was nice. Parking was also easy, which is always a plus. Good food overall, but that situation definitely threw things off a bit.

Upon eating, THE WORST biscuit ever though it is dressed up nicely with all types of other foods with with. It's okay. The omelette was just okay, VERY plain regardless of all that was there. Oversized and big for nothing like alot of things in America. Red flag, they didn't do their own fresh orange juice, and usually great breakfast places juice their own juices. There's was again, just okay. And for the prices I can't give em an average rating at all and won't be back. I'm glad that years ago I could from the outside know these types of establishments just by look from the outside. It's the same with alot of things in this world

Chicken tenders were pretty decent, moist and flavorful. It tasted good with the homemade devine sauce and garlic aoli. Fried green tomatoes were very fresh and tasty. Cornbread fritters were okay. There was an iota amount of fried onions at the bottom. I didn't taste much. For $16, the portion amount could have been a bit more. I would have liked to see a sampler that includes a sandwich and a couple sides of your choosing. Service was friendly.

You can get a fried or grilled chicken sandwich, meatloaf sandwich, or pulled pork sandwich. I chose to get the soul food split which includes the choice of a meat, 2 sides, and 2 cornbread fritters. My choices were the meatloaf with green beans, homestyle potatoes, and included 2 cornbread fritters. The flavor of the meatloaf was to die for! I really enjoyed it with the grilled onions! The cornbread fritters were also moist and flavorful. Ill be back for more! I like how they make their own rubs and you can even choose which rub you want on grilled chicken. I want to try that next time! I will definitely be back to try more food when Aunt Tina's is near my neighborhood, heck...I'd even travel for this food!

I ordered the Iron Man omelette from the "Lighter Side" section, which sounds modest but clearly has superhero-level powers. Moments later, a glorious cloud of fluffy egg whites loaded with veggies landed in front of me like a gift from heaven. Now let's talk about the true headliner: the half avocado atop the omelette. Not the sad, rock-hard "maybe it'll ripen by Thursday" kind. This was an award-winning avocado performance. Perfectly ripe, green, and flavorful. The most perfect piece of produce ever produced. And then...strawberries, watermelon, and other tasty fresh fruit on the side. In February. In the Midwest. I don't know what kind of agricultural wizardry is happening back there in the kitchen, but I support it. As if that weren't enough, the waitress noticed my deep emotional commitment to hot sauce and brought me not one but TWO Cholula flavors. That's not just service. That's the kind of service that brings a tear to my eye. I was too overwhelmed with happiness to take photos, but let me just say it was an amazing lunch. Honestly, I may order this exact meal for my next ten visits because why mess with perfection? Outside of my ideal meal documented here, the breakfast+lunch menu is extensive, the daily soup rotation is strong, and everything about this place screams "small town gem." Came for lunch. Left emotionally attached to an avocado. 10/10.

It was time to try. We expected a bit of a hole in the wall and that's not what we found - we found a very nicely decorated and maintained restaurant with a lot of dark wood overtones - we were seated immediately and given an extensive menu. I ordered a Polish beer, and we ordered a Polish plate - kind of a combination sampler plate if you will - and a ground pork cutlet dinner. Now before we could say anything? Some bread showed up with a lovely but lightly flavored hummus type spread- we enjoyed it because it also came with a nice big half sized pickle. When the Polish plate came? OMG we had sauerkraut - we had sausage - we had some pierogies, and when the pork cutlet came out? It literally covered the entire plate and was resting on a bed of freshly mashed potatoes. We shared the Polish plate and we shared the extremely large pork cutlet. Now to be fair? We loved the Polish plate immensely - while the cutlet was nicely breaded, and the mashed potatoes were great? I'm not certain I could say that about the pork cutlet. There was nothing wrong with it. I think the flavor was fine, but it was not something that I would order again. It just wasn't my taste that's all. So would we come again? Yes. Yes we would!
