The night started out a little rocky. We had a large party of 6, and made a reservation because it was Friday night. When we arrived I waited to check in with the hostess, but kept being passed around and asked to wait a moment. My mother saw a sign that said "outdoors for large parties are first come first serve". So after being ignored for a bit we transitioned to sit outside on the beautiful deck. There was a little discrepancy if "we were allowed to sit there", but finally I kindly explained our situation and then the waiter took our order. The food was divine!!!! It is such a very large clean, modern, space. They have a full bar and friendly staff for this amount of space. Since it was our first night we were staying at Hawks Cay resort and it was pouring out we decided to just come here for dinner. We were seated right away. They have a nice menu of course the burgers caught my eye but they offered a variety of choices. We ended up getting the Angler burger, whole roasted snapper, fish tacos, basket of chips, with sea salt with tater tots, and tuna tots. Everything thing we ordered was delicious. The roasted snapper fish topped with sweet chili sauce was the best thing on the menu. If you are staying at Hawks Cay it makes sense to come here at least once for dinner. We actually ordered dinner here the last night of our stay we just ordered burgers and fries and brought it back to our villa. read more

I would say these deep fried pickles were a 8.5/10. I had them as a little lunch snack because there were literally no other options for me at the local restaurants as I was not dining in, only looking for vegan take-out options, & was told ordering out was not available on the weekends by another establishment just North of here in Islsmorada. I did enjoy this order of pickles but I think it was mostly because I was starving at this point. The actual pickles in their fried shell were definately tasty & flavorful... After finishing I had quite a bit of oil taste left in my mouth though; Less oil residue would be optimal but not sure how, or if that could be achieved. Unsure of the type of oil used on these pickles but it does taste vegan, & yes, I absolutely can tell the difference. The crispness was spot on. I ate the whole order & I was satisfied. Now it's time to drink a liter of water to make up for this fried junkfood treat. So, to conclude this review, I would order these again if I was starving again. If you are vegan, ask for no ranch. Maybe even ask for the chili thai sauce. I think that would pair nice with these. read more

Hey so this is right by hawks cay, so staying in the resort prompted us to eat here. Of course the kids get Mac and cheese, which is whatever they're kids. It's obviously Kraft, which they love but I can't stand paying double digits for. German pancakes were ok. I had an open face kinfie and fork burger....awful. 4/2024 If you can avoid the convenience of this restaurant you should. As stated in previous review this restaurant is freezing.Could not sit outside because of the mosquitos. No bug spray or citronella candles. we waited 70 minutes for our food to be served cold. By that time children were sleeping without their dinner. Waitress never came back to check on us. First, the portions are huge. The nachos plate is a foot and a half long. The dishes were hit and miss. Conch chowder, hit, fried pickles miss, ceviche hit. Order anything fish and you can't go too wrong. Service was attentive and the view of the marina is delightful. Don't be surprised that every table has an average of 2.5 children under 8. Staying at hawks Kay people were saying to try this place . It was our first dinner meal while on vaca. Should of taken a loan out first . Anything on Duck or around hawks Kay resort has Disney land outrageous prices. The server was friendly but English was here second language. She got our main coarse order wrong and we got the hog fish which was good . But outrageous pricing for what we received. Drinks tasted like they had no alcohol in them. I never write reviews but figured it could help the restaurant improve by doing so. On our recent trip to hawks cay we stopped here first for lunch. The views are beautiful and we wish the service, food and drinks matched. The food was way over cooked, chicken tenders for our 2 year old that she couldn't eat because they were so overdone and crispy, (the server kindly took them off our bill) , mahi tacos were decent but over cooked fish and my husbands fish sandwich was small and over cooked. The bottled beer was unfortunately warm at best, we tried a draft beer next and it was slightly colder but not much better. It's a shame because the location & views are great. Eating at all the local spots in the Keys is a goal of mine. While we normally stay marathon, the pickings for new joints was running low without a trek to the next key. So when Hawks Cay finally opened their own Angler and Ale restaurant, we jumped at the chance to try their delights. When we arrived, we asked to be seated outside. This was probably the worst part of the experi3 as the hostess took roughly 10 mins after asking us to seat us even though the table was already cleaned. Shaina was our waitress and an amazing host. She was prompy and friendly. She took our orders and in VERY short order, our drinks and apps arrived. Eveything was delicious. I'm extremely picky about my margaritas but the Admiral's Choice (easy on the agave, extra lime) was 80% perfection for me. It was enough to order a second instead of switching to wine. Our apps included conch fritters, chips and sea salt tots basket, and the dill fried pickles. The conch fritters were fully loaded with conch and the key lime aioli was out of this world. The tots were fried but crisp and super light. The dill pickle chips were dusted with old bay and the dipping sauce had a hint on spicy. It was all very good and came out within just a few minutes of ordering. If you're in the area, I highly recommend stopping in for the awesome views, amazing service and top notch food. I look forward to coming back for a meal. BTW: they offer to go drinks but are NOT dog friendly. read more

The service was worse than steak and shake. Honestly this is painful to write. The food was good but we were really disappointed by the service. We ordered food and drinks and honestly it just took forever to see any progress for our meal. Basil was our server and no offense to this guy but man it just seemed like we were on the back burner the entire time we were there. Couldn't even get a steak knife or butter for the lobster tail. We ordered the two most expensive things on the menu and this was the service we got? Bummer... wanted to give a better review but very disappointed. If... and a big "if" we come back we would likely make sure we had a different server. Between the 30 minute breaks of seeing or even being noticed by our server we were able to get through dinner but the overall experience was quite the let down. I got yellowtail snapper and my wife got hog fish (like sea bass). Cooked in lemon, better and capers...drool. Then coconut rice that was incredible and the green beans were so crunchy. It was the freshest meal. I could have cried it was so good. And Careen, our server was absolutely amazing. She was so helpful and provided great insight on every item. She was fantastic. The building/setting was great, wish it wasn't raining so that we were outside but even not being there it was a fantastic atmosphere and wonderful experience. Got fish tacos with a side of fries. Waited for about 40 min to get the food and nothing was hot, not even the fries. Grilled fish was seasoned okay but the lime-seasoned salad was bland. Okay from the pictures online this place does live up to the standard, the hostess Jasmine was all smiles from the moment we opened the door to asking us where we would want to sit and even asked us if we are comfortable, then we had our server Ralph from South Africa, greeted us with a smile we felt welcome ordered the special the mutton snapper, tuna nachos, grouper cheeks, got a recommendation of the quadriforre (sp) pasta, Delicious, Delicious Delicious. The view of the patio, the food, the stories of the South African culture from Ralph, the drinks from the bar (dark island tea, mojito, spicy seed margarita, old fashioned, blue marina). I highly recommend this place. The downside of the night was the food runner who was commanding when handing out the food and seemed unbothered until our server took over and politely thanked him. Staying on duck key we decided the first night to stick close to home and eat at the angler and ale, there was a wait so if you can make reservations do it! We sat at the bar and had a great time with the bartenders who made us fantastic drinks! We were seated outside and it was quite chilly, so the staff accommodated us and physically moved our tables inside so we would be more comfortable! Saturday night, walked in, table of 9 seated pretty quick, so far so good. Menu came, limited options and high prices. To elaborate- I've been to the keys a few times and not often sticker shocked here or other touristy spot, but kinda surprised how bad service and quality/experience was. Early on, sent mixed drinks back (straight face puckering sour mix in a cup), I apologized about wanting to send it back (as a former bar tender long ago) and explained the situation and the waitress quickly just said "ok, what do you want," without a care in the world, so we got some beers, seemingly harder to mess up, but even the sweet and unsweetened tea was bad. Replacement beers sat at bar for 11 min before being picked up and brought over. What's funny is they seem to go out of their way to seem high class and fancy, even down to the robot food delivery devices, but only to be slapped with terrible food and service. Had to leave the table to get our own drinks at the bar a few times since the waitress wasn't around, along with a round of waters for the table. When meals did come, they were okay, not great, not horrible in regards to quality, but for price, below par. Had a few items on the order that never came but were on the bill, but once called out it was corrected. Here is my impression - they charge a ton for mediocre food and less than standard service, because they can since it's the only spot on the key, they make so much they can buy useless robots to drive one or two appetizers down the hall, even though servers are making plenty of empty handed trips back and forth. Treena - seemingly energetic, but never around, non apologetic for the drink issues, and not a care when it comes to walking up to us at the bar when we were ordering our own drinks. We were staying at Hawks Cay, and this restaurant is on the grounds. It has a great outdoor area with fire pits and a nice sized interior, with plenty of large tables. Unfortunately, they don't staff for their size. We went in around 6/7 pm on Friday night and was told there would be a 2 hour wait by the manager. Then a few minutes later when our friends joined us and they went to check with a hostess, they were told 45 minutes or sooner. Which is when the manager berated the hostess and told her it wasn't about tables being available, it was about what the kitchen could accommodate. The restaurant was maybe 2/3 full. If your kitchen can't accommodate that, you have issues you need to figure out. The food itself was hit or miss. We ordered the tuna nachos, which were great, but barely had any of the sauce on them. Luckily our server was easy to flag down and we got extra sauce quickly. Our friends coconut shrimp was dry. My jerk chicken and crab fries were tasty. The kids grilled fish was excellent but the portion size for the Mac and cheese was more of a side then an entree. And why does Mac and cheese come with a side of fries? Can't some Fruit or something healthier be offered? In short, if you are there it's a decent choice. But if you have option of eating somewhere outside of Hawks cay, do it read more

Waitress was the worst ever. We were a party of 6 and there were some mistakes on our bill and when I told the waitress that she made a mistake and left off the burger she snapped at me and said that's not the bill it's the other one. I was just trying to not short change them. She processed to be rude and say to my wife is he always like this... she proceeded to be rude making comments. I own a restaurant and if I had an employees treating customers like this I would fire her on the spot. Your restaurant should be embarrassed to have her. I will never ever go back.
