This place is long overdue for their 5th star. Since moving back to the Montford area, Ales has been my go to local watering hole. It has a cozy and welcoming vibe with a large wrap around bar and plenty of available seat. Or if your prefer to hang outside on a nice day they have a large patio and plenty of outdoor TVs as well making this a perfect game day spot. You'll find all different types of people here, from older locals, to younger professionals, to people just passing through. I think what really stands out is the service. All of the bartenders are great but I have to give a special shout-out to Carly, Kelsea, and Jen! Whether you are a local, or a first timer, they really know how to make you feel welcome. I've been here many times before and it's usually pretty busy. They have a lot of TVs throughout the bar, both inside and out! The food is what you would expect for a sports bar, except they have a few options that seem random... I went out on a ledge and ordered the hibachi. The hibachi comes with steak and it seemed to be good quality. My expectations were not to be the same as hibachi from one of the Japanese restaurants, but a rendition. I was shocked that it seemed / tasted great and almost a slightly healthier home cooked version. I would definitely get this again!! If you are into spors bars and a great hangout with friends with a local feel, then Angry Ale's os for you! This is your usual sports bar with a great location (centrally located Montford area, about 10 minutes from uptown/downtown). It has a small free parking lot with also a few free street spots. The menu offers the usual options of burgers, hot dogs, wraps, wings, etc. It also has a full bar with a good variety of beers (main brands and local options) and other cocktails. I ordered a Michelob Ultra and the buffalo chicken wrap with fries. The food was good. The service was also really good. One detail you have to keep in mind is that they allow outside smoking. Also, there are plenty of screens all over the place, so it's a great place to watch your favorite team. Overall, highly recommended. read more

Went here mid day on a Sunday during NHL playoffs, plenty of tables open! Our server was great, came to check in often and she had tons of tables. I'm sure during football season this place is the place to be! Today starts CLT taco week so we only ordered tacos. But we will be coming back for more food! Wings look great. Buffalo bacon taco was really well executed. The flavors meshed perfectly and the ratios of ingredients were spot on. My friend LOVED the gringo taco which has pork and grilled jalapeños on it. The events of the evening including our meal from this place really is out of an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm. We missed our connecting flight to Louisville so had to stay the night in Charlotte. After getting our shit settled at the airport and booking a hotel room for the night, we checked in and got to work looking for something to order. Our first flight was delayed multiple hours so we were starving by this time. I chose this place because they had some good southern food items that I try to take advantage of whenever I venture to the south. I ordered a smorgasbord of shit: mac and cheese, beyond burger, hush puppies, sauteed green beans, and mashed potatoes. We waited patiently, much longer than original projected time until the uber eats driver was THREE minutes away from our hotel and we were chomping at the bit to bust into this order. Suddenly, they cancelled the order. Can you fucking imagine? I was furious. I didn't want to take up time trying to order something else so I literally just reordered the same order above from here. The people were probably like wtf? Fortunately, the driver we got this time was our HERO and actually delivered the food. Firstly, huge props for having a beyond burger. It's something that's so simple but most places haven't wrapped their head around this concept yet. There was nothing special about it otherwise. There was lettuce that was a lil sad looking but I was appreciative of its inclusion. The green beans did what they intended. I've had better and I've had worse. Nothing particularly memorable about them or their flavor. Mac and cheese was covered in bacon despite me not ordering "loaded", neither of us eat bacon. Once we scraped that shit off, they were very good. Mac and cheese was enjoyable. Hush puppies were pretty good. Grateful for this place for being open at that hour and giving us something to stuff down our pie hole but it was otherwise nothing to write home about. read more

My friends and I stopped at Angry Ale's last night for a quick dinner after a group workout. We were all pretty exhausted so hoping to pop in and out, but somehow stayed for over two hours! The service was surprisingly slow for a Tuesday night but they did have trivia night so the bar and outdoor area were pretty packed. Otherwise, the food and drinks here are great. It's the perfect casual eating spot with typical bar food ranging from burgers, to hot dogs, pasta and quesadillas. I got the cowboy sliders which came with fried chicken, cheese and pickles, as well as a side of tots. Terrible! I have never met a server with this much of an attitude, and the manager was worse than she was. Treating people the way we were treated tonight by the server and the manager is unacceptable. We had 7 people at the table and when we were finished we asked for our checks. The waitress, who was already rude from the time we sat down, copped an attitude and said "we don't split checks, it's blasted all over the menu." Then she went and got the manager. It was on the bottom of the menu in small print, we missed it, but absolutely no need for the attitude. The manager came to the table with an attitude and the Bouncer and let us know that if we didn't pay the bill he would call the police. Call the police?? I know this place has great name recognition and reputation in the Park Road shopping center area. I had heard of it before and had been to a charity bowling event there earlier this year at Park Lanes and had seen it. I played golf in Mint Hill on this day and decided to drive through the area to get some lunch and decided to stop here because they have a nice and large outside patio with several large HD TV's all around. At 2p on a Monday it was very slow and I got great service from Laura who was covering the patio. I decided on the baja tacos, which were grilled shrimp on flour tortillas. They food quality was just OK. I asked to hold the onions and jalapeños and they got the jalapeños but no the onions. The parking lot is like a postage stamp. Not adequate for building of this size. They also put fence up as you enter so they can add some additional picnic tables in the parking lot. Maybe this goes away in post COVID. I also noticed none of the staff was wearing a mask. This is a dog friendly place and a guy came in with his dog on a leash but he was well behaved so their was no problem or distractions. read more

Came during Burger Week for their featured burger. It was supposed to have "melted cheese" inside, but there was barely any and the burger itself was a bit dry and bland. The tots were good tho. They had several different beers on draft at decent prices. Bar staff were super friendly and accommodating. They have boozy slushies and the bartender was nice enough to let me try both, but they were way too boozy for me after having two beers, so I passed. They were tasty though. A couple across the bar from me ordered the biggest moscow mule I've ever seen and I was intrigued, but the trivia had just started so I wasn't able to get the info on what it actually was and how much.
