I have always been a huge fan of anything in the Japanese Cuisine world and as someone who has been heavily spoiled by the best New York has to offer, I must admit Ani Ramen kicks it to a whole another level. For starters, every good restaurant starts with its incredible staff along with its beautiful and hip decor. But thats just where it starts. From the appetizers to the ramen the food is spectacular and well worth the wait. I've had both the "ani ramen" flavor and "shoyu ramen" (which is actually my typical go to in most ramen houses) and each experience has been memorable. I love this place. Every time I come here the servers are very tentative and super nice. I also love the layout and decorations of the restaurant . The soups are so delicious! I usually order the miso ramen with an egg and it always comes out perfect every time. The food is also cooked very quickly. I've never visited this place and ever thought about how long my food was taking no matter how hungry I was. For the fact that the servers kept attending us with waters and making sure we were okay made me forget about the time. We also came late at night like 30 minutes before they closed and they still attended us! That shocked me because usually restaurants turn you away 30min before closing time. First time at Ani (on a Wednesday night.) was We were able to get a table right away, but there was plenty of activity, including what appeared to be an engagement proposal or something else that elicited applause and flowers. You have to be ok with the noise because it is all hard surfaces that reflect sound. The room is a large attractive open space in an industrial chic style. The food is very good. We started with pork belly bao buns with rich creamy pork and fresh tangy slaw in a quality bun. Particularly good with a squirt of the red sauce from the small bottle on the table. My partner had a the spicy miso ramen with pork and I had the chef's special which is beef based broth and braised short rib. Both were excellent, but perhaps a little too much salt in the beef. I got myself the wings and the spicy miso ramen with pork. the wings were not worth it (although the flavors were definitely unique) and the ramen was not as good as i remembered it from the jersey city location. if you can, the jersey city location is a lot better. the staff is a lot friendlier there and they really make sure you have a good experience and the food was a lot better as well. overall, this place is okay but it just did not hit the spot. read more

I lived in Japan for three years so I find it hard to find quality Japanese food outside of NYC. I ordered to donburi because it was sweltering outside. I added shrimp to my rice bowl and the shrimp was covered in a sweet, gelatinous sauce, which completely overpowered it. There was also a weird white sauce in the bowl. Ani Ramen food is great, and I'm sure the staff are as well. I understand that it was probably a very stressful evening. I work with the public in my job and I know how difficult it can be. I wanted to keep this private, but it has been about two months now, and I never received a response from the restaurant--not even an acknowledgement. I ordered takeout for my household on Sunday, 9/10. The order receipt said it would be ready for pickup by 6:48pm. I arrived at 6:50, entered the restaurant, and saw maybe four small groups sitting and dining in. All seemed to have their food. It was not busy in the sit-down area. There was one person waiting for his order before me, another who I held the door for, and I believe one other came in after that. I gave the hostess my name and she looked and didn't see my order. She found it on her computer and said it would be ready in 10 minutes. I told her I would go outside and come back in ten minutes (I have two immunocompromised people in my household and I have had COVID three times, despite taking precautions and being fully vaccinated, etc.). I waited 10 minutes and walked back in. It had gotten busier with people waiting for their takeout orders, but I knew the hostess knew my name and I was fine waiting a bit longer. She saw me and acknowledged me, but didn't call me forward. So I waited. Soon after I came back in, she moved to the area where it appeared that takeout orders were being assembled. No one was at the front of the restaurant for an extended period. Once, an employee asked if anyone waiting (by now maybe 7 people) were there to sit and dine in. No one was. He left to continue doing his job. Still, no one was at the front of the restaurant. People entered and stood, waiting. I took it upon myself to ask if these new people were there to dine in, and, when told yes, recommended that they go forward and let staff know because otherwise they'd just be standing there waiting endlessly. On both occasions that I did this, the new people were there for dine in and would not have been seated if I hadn't recommended that they get staff's attention themselves because no one was there to handle people as they entered. After about 45 minutes of waiting, the same hostess I had spoken with, and who had acknowledged me after I returned from my 10-minute stint outside, repeated my name to me and said "I am super sorry". I said it's fine--I know it's not her fault. She returned to the back of the restaurant. By now, everyone else waiting has left with their food, having waited quite a while longer than they were promised. It is now an hour that I've been waiting, most of it indoors, where I feel very uncomfortable, and I am the only person left. The people I've helped find seats have been served. A member of the staff who has not come to the front at any point walks to the register and confirms my name. He looks sympathetic and says "I have to make a few changes to your order". I asked what they were. He said "we're out of tofu. We've been out for a while. I didn't know you were here or I would have told you a long time ago". I'm a vegetarian, so if my tofu-centered orders had to be changed, what would they be changed to? I offered an out. I said if nothing in my order was ready yet, I would just take a refund. Seemingly with relief, and, implying that my assumption was correct, he said "yes. The refund will take two to three business days". I find it extremely hard to believe that he didn't know I was waiting, for an hour+, much of that time alone and very prominently placed in the front of the restaurant, when the woman who repeated my name to me more than once was in the back with him for the majority of the time I was there. But if he truly didn't know, that's still not acceptable. I felt it important to bring this to the restaurant's (and now the public's) attention. I spent my Sunday evening standing in a restaurant waiting for food that never came with minimal contact with staff (more contact may have drastically lowered my wasted time, as the gentleman may have realized that my order couldn't be completed earlier), while my household waited at home for dinner. I ended up ordering pizza from across the street. By the time I returned home, it was dark, after 8pm, and I had been gone for over two hours. To pick up a takeout dinner order. After this experience, I don't know if I will be ordering from Ani Ramen again. Summit is a 15-20 minute drive and, depending on the time, it can be hard and costly to park. But it's worth it for good food. Ani Ramen has great food. But that experience made me deeply skeptical and makes me think it is not worth my time to try again. Please know that I am not trying to call out any member of the staff, including the gentleman who told me there was no tofu. The entire system was the problem. It bears repeating that I emailed Ani Ramen with this experience shortly after and received no response. read more

So after reading the reviews of this place I decided to give it a try. I love ramen but this place was a total disappointment to me. The pork buns were good but let's talk about the ramen. To put it simply it lacked a lot of flavor. I got the spicy miso ramen and I expected it to be spicy it was bland, no spice, no kick, seems like I sprinkled paprika in the broth and called it a day. I asked the waitress if they had extra spice and she gave me a paste they use for the ramen that tasted like nothing. Pretty disappointing ramen. With that being said this place is mostly hype.
