Dr king is an excellent surgeon. Our poor dog had sudden onset blindnesss caused by glaucoma first in one eye then the other eye, requiring back to back enunciations over the course of 30 days. The surgeries went perfectly- five stars. But minus one star for the ridiculous waiting times for appointments. This place is like the dmv in the waiting room! And minus another one star for offering us absolutely zero guidance and resources or support for helping our dog and ourselves adjust to blindness. Dr king and our own vet said our dog will be fine in 1-2 months but That did not happen. Her anxiety was too strong and she would pace and bark for hours every day despite all sorts of medicine. After 6 months we had to euthanize her to end her suffering. read more

I have been bringing Diesel to Dr. King for about 3 or 4 years now and am surprised I have not yet left a review. My boxer has had "boxer eye" about 4 times now and I was told once they get it they typically don't get it again. I am sooo thankful to have found Dr. King. Yes, you have to wait but that comes with being the best in town. I'll even go as far as saying the best around. I moved to SC and my boy had the issue again. I tried taking him Upstate Vet Emergency. Their prices were 3x the amount of Dr. King's and Diesel did not heal nearly as quickly as he had done with her. After spending so much I still had to come back and have her take a second look because he was still squinting 4 weeks later. Yes, the wait time can be long but who cares when you get to see someone as knowledgeable as her? She has helped me with many cats through the years and when my dog had an eye problem, of course, it was her we went to see. Surgery on my girl Daphne and an 8 week heal time. 8 follow up appointments and most were a long wait. I took it in stride. I am just grateful she is here to help us. This was a horrible experience! My cat who is terrified of going to the vet had to wait 5 hours before he saw the doctor. He is terrified to go to the vet and sat terrifed in his carrier with 4 or 5 dogs in the waiting area with him. From the time I left my home to travel to the office and when I got home my cat had been in the carrier for 7 hours with no access to a litter box or water. How can a vet who is supposed to care for animals be so inhumane?Then I find out this in not a one off. It is their policy for an Emergency work to wait 4 hours before being seen. I think she needs to review the definition of emergency. She didn't even introduce herself when she walked in the room. I looked up trying to figure out who she was and what she wanted me to do with my cat and she just said oh I am the doctor. She showed no empathy for my experience of being told by my vet my cats eyes have something wrong and I am at a specialist office. She didn't try to connect with my cat in anyway. She just treated him like a set of eyeballs. Such a shame that a skilled animal specialist would act so inhumane. I gave one star as she seems knowledable and experienced. read more

The customer service is absolutely horrible and they are also very expensive!!! Every single time I've had to bring my dog in with an appointment I end up spending about 3 hours there and for each follow up appointment they say they only have work ins. This means when you come in and sign in they will literally work every other single customer that walks in the door after you and see them first until there aren't any others!!!!!! Bb this is a horrible policy!!! It should be those signed in first. J oh might as well bring her in an hour before closing so that I don't waist literally half a day that I had to take off work!!!! I took my dog to see the doctor for some vision issues. I was prescribed three medication's was told to give my dog the first two and I would get a call back the following Monday to confirm whether or not I needed to give him the third medicine I got no call from the doctor. I called back on Tuesday and was told someone would call me back and they never did went to the appointment and was kept waiting for an hour and a half and was told that if I didn't like the weight that I could make an appointment two months out very unprofessional and rude staff. read more

I have been to this location several times for a couple of my dogs and Dr King is amazing. Seriously, she is great. However, trying to make an appointment today was infuriating. They said that if I made a 2:30pm appt I would be required to show up and wait UP TO 2 HOURS before I'm seen. I don't think they understand what the point of an appointment is. If you say my appointment is for 2:30, you should be aiming to see me then - not knowingly scheduling something hours before you can see my animal. So, make the appt for 4:30 then? No, you have to come and wait. Customer's time is valuable. Anyone that intentionally wastes mine doesn't get my business. read more

There is no point in having an appointment, they will see you when they get to you which may be 2+ hours after your scheduled appointment. Dr is great, did amazing surgery on my cat. Office is just very disorganized and lots of communication issues between staff. read more

Had a referral to this office from the lovely vet I frequent - I was told to call around noon after the referral has been made. So I called around 12, was transferred to a call service and told the office is on lunch break until 1pm. Called again after 1pm and transferred to call service again - this time I was told the office has gone home by 12! The office has limited hours as is (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 8 or 9am to 5pm), so now the only option is to wait until Monday before possibly scheduling an appointment. This is a frustrating experience for just booking a vet appointment for my cat. I respect an office's right to choose it's working hours, but I just do not understand how an office with limited hours can decide to just close five hours before it's official closing time. read more

I had an appointment at 8:30AM. The technical saw my dog at approximately 2:00 PM. After the technical saw my dog she came out and told me my dog did not qualify for the catarat surgery. I asked her that I would like to talk with the doctor. She told me the doctor is not available to talk with me until 5:30 PM! If I already paid almost $300.00 I would expect to talk to the doctor. Horrible experience. No respect for people or the poor dogs. I reported this doctor to the state of Georgia. If you have a bad experience I think you should report this doctor. She will stand there like a petulant child and make you and the other 15 people in her lobby wait even more time. I walked out without discharge notes to the sound of her voice yelling : "[i]f you leave, your dog will suffer." My first thought was: "and it will be your fault you childish ..." She called me 2 1/2 hours later to tell me what she could have said while I was there, but wasting your time is what she is all about. She had to start in on her drop off form and la la la. I told her to call my referring vet. Her form does not warn you that she is a childish moron and that she will intentionally make you, and her lobby full of people, wait longer if you get offended by her disrespectful wasting of your time. I am so grateful that we were referred to Dr. King. The staff was kind and compassionate at a time we needed it the most. The staff warned us we would have a long wait (four hours), and that due to COVID-19 restrictions, we would have to stay in the car (this is what our vet does, a very reasonable precaution to keep us and their staff safe). It was a long wait, but no longer than that. What impressed me is that they did not turn people away, unlike an Emergency Vet chain near us. If I ever have need of a vet eye specialist, I visit Dr. King again. read more

High quality medicine (or at least that's the impression they give), but at this point, I am not sure it's worth it. You will wait at least an hour past your appointment time. The lobby is very chaotic and disorganized, creating a very stressful and tense environments for pets and owners (and fun fact-- stress increases blood pressure in our pets, which can alter the results of certain ocular testing, like tonometry/pressure tests). My cat has been here now 4 times, and even had surgery here (which needs to be redone I should add), and I have never once spoken to the doctor. Any information you need to relay or get from the doctor, goes through a 5 person game of telephone and ends up being incorrect or distorted. At my most recent visit, I waited 2 hours before being told the time they were planning on seeing me, which was 2 hours and 45 minutes after the scheduled appointment time. They were not kind or apologetic when informing me of this, which just felt disheartening considering the blatant disrespect for the clients time, and the pets mental wellbeing. At this point, the stress I put my cat through coming here, is worse for him than his existing eye problems. Will be asking primary vet for a referral elsewhere. read more

Doctor seems nice but between office hours, inefficiency and process it's a nightmare for anyone that works They are not letting anyone in the office due to COVID (unlike my regular vet) and to get an appointment be prepared to wait for 1-3 weeks. If you want to do a drop off/work in so you don't have to wait so long to get an appointment you have to drop off in the morning and return at 4 pm-a pain for someone who does not live right near them. They tell you to return at 4 with the disclaimer that, upon return, you may still have to wait up to two hours to get your pet. (I realize they are work-Ins but set a time where the owner can expect to come and actually get their pet.). I waited two hours in the parking lot for her after making two trips from Alpharetta. Then if they tell you to call back and let them know how your dog is progressing so they can determine what to do with medications and you can't call on Thursday because they aren't open and, in the ultimate irony, outgoing voicemail says to press zero to leave a message with the answering service for the office. Pressing zero gets you an answering service that tells you they can't take a message and to call an emergency vet. If you are local to their office, can wait weeks for an appointment or don't work so you have plenty of disposable time it's a good choice. If not, well, it's not going to be easy. read more

This Doctor blinded my service dog who I trained for a year and a half. Two independent vets thought he had entropion in one eye but, sent me to her to double-check. We had to wait in the car so I have no idea how she "checked" him but, came out and told us it was not entropion, it was cholesterol in his eye. She sold me her "compounded" eye drops and told me to use them. What started out as a tiny white dot in the corner of his eye, within in a few weeks covered his entire cornea. I had to go back and get more drops and asked the girl who came out to the car if this was normal. She went back inside to ask. When she came back out, she told me this was normal. THIS was not normal. I took him back to my regular vet, we confirmed it was entropion. He did the surgery to correct it which was minor and the white spot stopped growing but, it was too late. He is now blind in that eye. He went everywhere with me and now can not as he's completely blind in that eye. He is an English Mastiff that weighed 192 pounds so, his balance is off as he has no depth perception anymore. If you touch him from the side he's blind in without calling his name, we never know what he'll do. So, he now has to stay at home and he lived for going with me to see people and places all the time. Entropian is VERY common. She should have known what this was. I should never have been told it was normal for the spot to start covering his cornea. He was with me that day, the Doctor should have come out and looked at it. I wouldn't send anyone to her. Dr. King is amazing! I would wait 6 hours if it meant that my dog would be in her care and his eye problem was addressed properly! She is professional, kind, knowledgeable and caring! She is one of the only board certified diplomats in veterinary ophthalmology in the country! The demand to see her is high! You have to have patience to see the best!. I am a Veterinarian and I had a patient who I did eye surgery on as a puppy and as the pet grew the eye condition returned. I reached out to Dr. King for advice which she readily offered.. she also examined this dog and repeated the surgery as a courtesy! They don't make em like her anymore! Dr king took care of my dog for 6 years. He had reoccurring eye ulcers and glaucoma. She would fit him in the same or next day for urgent visits. Yes we would have a wait time, but that's because she has lots of patients with urgent issues. She has a heart of gold and is very compassionate and knowledgeable. She saved his eyes many times. Very single time I come here I have to wait and wait and wait for my dog to get seen. They tell you to call upon arrival but then you get the busy signal. You walk in with a mask and get reprimanded by Jackie to stay outside and call. Hello! I tried 16 times with no answer. Their communication is TERRIBLE!!! The poor nurses have to walk all over the parking lot and if they can't find your call you are SOL because they don't have open phone lines to call out. First off, I came here for my 6 month old French Bulldog and it took forever to even get an appointment but that's not really the problem. After I finally got my appointment and went (it was on a Friday) it took hours past my appointment time to even see a doctor. I was supposed to receive a call back the following Monday to schedule surgery but it's been over a month and a half and I've called over a couple dozen times about this situation just for them to hang up on me EVERY SINGLE TIME. They don't care about your pets let alone even answering calls. A couple ladies I talked to had major attitude problems and couldn't comprehend how urgent my dogs situation was and kept arguing with me over talking to the nurses in the back office and refused to transfer me although I let them know minutes before I got hung up on I was connected to the back office already. Only a couple ladies were nice but they still ended up hanging up on me. No I did not call being rude until today when I had enough. PLEASE DO NOT BRING YOUR PETS HERE! THEY DONT CARE! read more

This is a very busy practice and it's because the doctor is so good. After a misdiagnosis from our vet, I was referred to Dr. King by my dog's dermatologist. In two weeks she had the corneal ulcer cleared up. I was so pleased with her office even though we had to wait. The eyes are too precious to not get them taken care of immediately. Horrible, horrible wait time. Just bad. Being one of the few animal eye specialists in town, let's just hope your pet never has an eye problem, because be prepared to waste HOURS of your time going to this clinic. Not only making an appointment is difficult, they double/triple book each time slot, which means even with an appointment, you will wait at least AN HOUR OR TWO just to see the doctor for let's say, 5 minutes or less. The wait time is no kidding. Be prepared to wait. They do offer this other option, which is to drop off your pet in the morning, and pick up the pet in the afternoon. This is an easier option, except if you want to speak with the doctor when you pick up your pet, the standard procedure is for you to wait till the doctor finishes seeing all her patients for the day, then you get to speak with her. Lovely right? The service is fine, she is an eye specialist after all, so yes, she will fix your pet's eye back up. Just be prepared to wait for a long long time. read more

Disappointing at best. I had really high hopes based off of so many other reviews I found online for Dr. King. The staff was rude and pretty unapologetic about it. The wait time was astronomical (2+hrs). Dr King was absolutely not open to suggestions or concerns. Parking and location were a joke. The saddest part about this whole experience is that people go here because they have to. They don't have a lot of other options in this area. So, I suppose this keeps AES open for business. Dr. King and her staff are professional, courteous, and treat every dog like they're their own. I was referred to Dr. King by my own vet whose vet tech brought her cocker to Dr. King to be treated for glaucoma. Dr. King ran an EKG on our cocker and explained what was going on with her eye with great analogies and we felt very comfortable with her diagnosis and treatment plan to only remove the cataract from her left eye and not from her right eye (shifted). We've been going back for all of the post-op check ins and are incredibly happy with the results and her level of care. read more

I have been taking my cat to see Dr. King for about a year and a half now. He has inflammatory bowel disease so he is on immune-suppressing drugs and he has eye herpes (common in shelter cats, but the IBD drugs make it difficult for his immune system to deal with the eye herpes). So he is a pretty tough case to deal with. Dr. King has done two surgeries on him this year, one to remove a group of dead cells in his right eye -- that surgery was scheduled in advance and went quite well. The other surgery was to remove his left eye. She managed to help him keep the eye for over a year but in the end, it ruptured (on a Thursday, when her clinic is closed; we took him to the emergency clinic next door and they contacted Dr. King on her day off and sent pictures so she could confirm the rupture). She fit him into the schedule for an emergency enucleation surgery the very next day, arranged for him to stay overnight at the emergency clinic, and made one of her employees available so we could go pick him up on Saturday. When he had a complication the following week, they worked him in for a follow-up appointment. Yes, the wait time can be long, even if you have an appointment. But now that I have been the one whose pet was fit in for emergency surgery at the last minute, I understand why this can happen. There aren't that many veterinary ophthalmologists in Georgia and I have seen people coming from as far away as Tennessee to see Dr. King -- there is a lot of demand. The staff really does their best to ensure that everyone who needs to be seen can be seen and they offer several options including drop-off appointments. They know us now and they always ask how my cat is doing (using his name) when my husband or I comes in. They are very good at cleaning my cat up from all the crusty discharge he tends to accumulate (I don't know how they manage, but they do!) and if I have to drop him off, they are great about feeding him (I provide food) per my instructions since he needs to eat every few hours due to his IBD. They are also much more practiced at taking intraocular pressure readings than my regular vet. I don't always get to talk to Dr. King when I visit (I do a lot of the time, though) but I am OK with that. The staff members who have given me care instructions have been very helpful and have been able to answer all my questions. My cat isn't 100% back from his most recent surgery but we have been following the directions we've been given and he is definitely improving, plus he's no longer in pain. I was really concerned about putting an older cat with a chronic health condition through a serious procedure but in the end, there was no choice and he has received excellent care. Now, I just take my Kindle and a drink and settle in, in the waiting room for routine visits and everything is good. (There will be a LOT of dogs in the waiting room at any given time, just be aware.) read more
