It was a delightful surprise to stumble across this coffee and chocolate company. I am traveling right now and a friend met up with me to get a bit of work done at Animas. They are an artisan chocolate and coffee company with absolutely fabulous detail in their craft. Connor introduced himself after a bit of conversation about their wall of chocolate and informed be of their ability to partner with other companies and events to make custom chocolates including a topographical bar of high quality cocoa. Coming from Montana where there is so much geological diversity, it is a very tempting concept for my future parties and events. The whole team was friendly and helpful and created some really uniquely satisfying ways to consume caffeine. I really enjoyed my time there and hope to work with everyone more in the future! Fun little shop to get chocolates, specialty coffees, hot chocolates, and spirits. Sit and enjoy a hot drink and a book. Or a good conversation. It's quiet, but without making it feel awkward and like conversation is discouraged. Good amount of seating. Yet it would be nice to have more couch and armchairs around. Super cute cafe! There are two counters, one for the cafe and one for premium chocolates. On the chocolate side, they have truffles, toffee, chocolate potato chips, and more! I'll have to come back and try those one day, as we only tried items from the cafe. We got the smelter cookie ($2), a cookie with a mix of dark, milk, and white chocolate chips. Be sure to ask for it to be warmed up. It's so soft and all 3 flavors blended well together! We also tried the espresso hot chocolate, which was tasty and comforting. I entered Animas on a sticky summer day after a harrowing drive from Telluride on 145. Telluride was...overworked, exhausted and wrung out. AND BUSSSYYY.. a COVID lack going on!? Help in short supply=exhausted good work ethic workers still slugging it out to help mounds of Telluride Tourists. Enter-- Animas Choc Co! WHOAAA!! BEING in there was like entering a pre-Covid time warp--cool, welcoming, clean and LOTS OF GOOD PEOPLE helping good customers!! What a delight! VERY friendly guy broke away to bring me a complementary sample of delicious hot cocoa...YUM!!! I was immediately assisted at the truffle counter with my selection of chocolates. I hated to leave...but they were so quick and efficient and WARM and FRIENDLY that I was on my way out of the bustling shop in under 8 minutes!! Once home, I partook of the tasty treats--WOOOWWWWWZA...Amazing quality, perfectly crafted chocolates! They also have a nice chocolate bar where you can get a drink or a chocolate drink and they also have a viewing area where you can see the chocolate being made. Service manager was very condescending, belligerent, and rude. Operating hours listed online show an 8:00 pm closing. We took menus and seated ourselves at 6:50. Manager came over and instead of telling us they were closing soon, belittled us while telling us "time is of the essence" and "wanted to ensure we were on the same page". A simple "we are closing in 10 minutes " would have sufficed. I get that living and working in a place like Durango provides some people with a sense of conceit and superiority, but his attitude was over the top. I have travelled the 2040 miles from my home to visit Durango biennially for the last three years. I truly enjoy the town, the beauty of the Animas River, and the surrounding San Juan mountains. I would expect a native business owner would realize that the success of this establishment is dependent on tourism. This business needs to fix it's online presence and calibrate the current staff. I cannot believe how good the coffee was here, I honestly think one of the best coffees of my life. The hot chocolate sample was delicious. The chocolate truffles were very good as well. In addition, the two employees working killed it with hospitality and customer service. We took our small kids with us, and they loved the hot chocolate as well. I want to come back, but I live too far! If we had one of these where I live I would never visit a popular coffee chain again for coffee. I think I will be ordering chocolates online. read more

This place was definitely a highlight of our trip! We decided to spend the afternoon walking down the main street and we came across the storefront. It was cold so we stopped in for a cup of hot chocolate. The person who greeted us was so kind and knowledgeable. He helped us to sample the different chocolates that they offered and was very patient with us as we asked a bunch of questions to figure out what we wanted. I ended up getting the traditional hot chocolate, and another in my party got a peppermint hot chocolate. Both were phenomenal! we bought some additional items to take home and loved the entire experience. Whenever we are in town this is a must-visit location! read more

As a non-coffee drinker, I was pleased when we stopped here, specifically for my wife to get a coffee because they have lots of other treats too. The kids loved the chocolate lollipops. They have lots of gourmet chocolates and pretty fancy coffee drinks too. My wife got "the harlot" and said it was fantastic. I went here on a whim, the smell of coffee and the enticement of handmade fudge was too tempting. It is fabulous! Everything from the chocolate to the coffee is amazing. My favorite chocolate is the crazy woman creek, the absinthe really makes it exquisite. The Madam is wonderful and flavorful, my favorite drink! I personally think the best experience would be to get an in house coffee and enjoy the atmosphere, but if you're in a rush, the time it makes a drink to go is just enough to get to look around at the location! If you're traveling, they have super cute hot chocolate mixes that would make great souvenirs to take home. I had "the quick in dirty" (coffee drink) and my boyfriend had "the upper animas," (got chocolate.) While normally I ALWAYS chose coffee over hot chocolate, I think this is one of the rare occasions where you may want to opt for chocolate if you don't need the caffeine boost. Great small local, artisinal chocolatier. From the awards on the wall, Animas Chocolate Company seems to be getting some attention for their quality sweets. The staff was super friendly. They hand create some standard flavors (mint chocolate, salted caramels), and funky creations like a dark chocolate malt filled heaven and "snake bite" with white chocolate shell with cranberry, dark chocolate, and chili. If you're used to grocery store prices for "chocolate", you may feel some sticker shock. The truffles and speciality chocolates run around $2.50 each if you buy them individually, a little cheaper if you buy in bulk, which really is on par with most other quality chocolatiers. Chocolate!! Chocolate everywhere!! This cute little store is tucked right between the Boys and Girls Club and Fiesta Mexicana. When you walk in they have a little rack of sale items on the right and a beautiful display of truffles right in front. Along the walls they have all sorts of sets of chocolate as well as individual bars of dark, milk, with nuts, etc. They also sell hot chocolate! My mom and I decided to get a box of six to share and decided on two of each of the rose, espresso, and plain chocolate. They were all really yummy! The rose had a very delicate taste but the flavor of the flower hits your tongue at the end. I enjoyed the espresso one quite a bit because coffee and chocolate together are magic so I'm definitely going to get that one again. The plain chocolate was good because it was DARK; none of that sissy milk stuff ;) I'll definitely be back for more at some point, perhaps when it starts getting cold and I can order a hot chocolate? read more

I have used animas chocolates as my go to place to get birthday gifts for years. I was just treated so rudely I will NEVER go back! Shupping price not as advertised on line, would not give ANY estimated arrival date (although again on line it says second day shipping). I was told I was being unreasonable wanting to know when it would arrive. Very good, they make everything here including the hot chocolate. My drink was a bit sweet but otherwise good. The whipped cream was amazing. The location is very upscale and clean.
