Japchae with bulgogi beef (seasonal item)

What a lovely hidden gem! The menu offers a good variety of options, so there will be something for everyone. I have had Korean dishes elsewhere, so I have some idea of what to expect. I would say the dishes we tried today are in line with the traditions but still with a minor spin, so everything has a special taste and some character. The ingredients are definitely high quality, and surprisingly the price is very reasonable. Even my husband, who's a picky eater, enjoyed the food. Service is fast and everyone is super nice and friendly. Will definitely come back again.

I tried to go to Little Mama's but the waitlist was too long. Found this place on Yelp (with free parking). I was happy to find this place. Love the spicy stir fried squid that I ordered. The only shortcoming is that they don't serve banchan. I expect all the Korean restaurant will serve their homemade banchan (side dishes) but not this one.

I dined here a few weeks ago with some friends and to be honest, I can't get enough of the bulgogi tacos! But just to backtrack a bit...this is a Korean restaurant and my second time here. It's in a plaza on Woodlawn, which you'll know if you've been in Charlotte for a minute, is a busy area. This time I went during lunch hours on a Saturday and parking was pretty thick. However I was able to secure a parking spot and went in to join my girls. As a FYI, this is a very small restaurant, for large parties. Since my friends were already seated (I'm late lol), I sat down right away! The staff was awesome! Our waitress made it clear that she recently moved to the U.S. from South Korea a couple of months ago and she was still working on her English. Even though at times there was a slight language barrier, it didn't deter the experience. We started off the meal with bottled still water, bulgogi tacos, gyozas, and calamari. The calamari was very chewy and was sent back. The chef personally came out to speak to us and offered to remake the calamari which was a kind gesture. He was also very apologetic. However, the main star are the bulgogi tacos, you receive three with an appetizer order, and they are FIRE! if you don't order anything else, order these! Afterwards, we ordered the steak dinner. The meals do not come with sides, but you can add rice for an additional dollar. During a previous visit, if you're craving something warm, the Jjambnong Tang (seafood soup) was really good and easily shareable. We were provided warm farewells as we exited. I will be back!

Yumm! I can't wait to go back and try other menu items. I went on a quick date here with my honey before going to have dinner so I only wanted a snack. We ordered the mandu and then ordered a 2nd after destroying the 1st order. They came out hot, fresh and delicious! We came for an app but then saw the sweet soy garlic chicken and had to have it. It is chicken breast for all the thigh haters out there and was super tasty!!! To drink I had the MAXIM 16° and it was a great choice. I wish they had a full bar though. I noticed there is no liquor behind the bar. I can't wait to go back and try more menu items!

Was initially hesitant to try but overall, Anju did not disappoint! We were greeted as soon as we walked in and invited to sit anywhere since it wasn't busy for lunch (they just started doing Sunday lunches which was very convenient for us). We ordered the pop mandu, mini fried dumplings, which my 2yo loved so much that we ordered a second one for him. I had the bulgogi lunch set which came with great banchan. The bulgogi itself was on the saltier, less sweet side which tasted good. Although I'm used to sweeter bulgogi, I think that helped with not getting tired of the taste. I love that it came with the skewer tteokkbokki, fish cakes, and soup the most. Really great value. We also really enjoyed the crispy soy suyuk (crispy pork belly) and the sauce it came with. Many people love the waffle seafood pancake but it didn't have that same comfort food taste without the greasy oil that comes w frying a pancake. The space is on the smaller side so I can see it getting busy but since we came for lunch, we felt comfortable and not rushed at all. As parents, I appreciated the availability of high chairs and spacious, clean bathrooms with a changing station. Adding to our list of favorites!

The Baek Ban lunch special is such a fun meal and a great deal. Comes with protein of your choice, soup of the day, rice, kimchi, fish cake, rice cake, sausage, tofu, and omelette. You can skip the rice and easily make this low carb/high protein. Enjoyed trying all of the different items, and the soup really hit the spot on this chilly November day.

My honest review for this place would be "tasteless". We ordered crispy tofu and tofu bokkeum as those seemed to be only vegan options on the menu. Both the things tasted very tasteless to me. They should mark the items that they can make vegan so it's easy to pick what to order. Service and ambience were great. Food quantity is good as well just need some taste added.

Solid location and seems like it gives off the casual bar vibe I thought it would be. We got a yuzu like, stir fry squid, and crispy pork belly. It was easy to get the waiter's attention and did not feel rushed in any way. It was a cold day though so every time the door opened, we would feel a cold breeze. Yuzu Like: This is an ok soju mixed drink. I've not often had soju mixed with other things so wanted to give it a try. It tastes like a mix of the honey yuzu jam you may see at a korean grocery store with soju. While pleasant enough, it was a little too sweet and did not have much yuzu flavor. Also $13 felt wildly overpriced for what you get. Crispy Pork Belly: solid crispy slices that were not too dry. The kale and sesame oil underneath the pork belly went very well with the pork belly. It tasted great with a bowl of rice. They charge $1 per bowl of rice which is fine but felt weird the dish didn't already come with one since it really felt it necessitated it (unless you were trying to do keto or something). The rice tasted nice though! Stir fry squid: excellent flavor. Squid had a nice chew and didn't feel too oily or saucy. Again, tasted good, but you have to eat with some rice. Not sure who these people are that are just eating these straight but maybe I'm missing the trend. Overall, not bad! The alcoholic drinks aren't strong enough and over priced but the food was fairly on point with the exception of being charged $1 for rice. I'd recommend giving the food a try if you want some decent tasting korean bar food.

the food was absolutely phenomenal. i really enjoyed my meal, which was the Dakgangjeong. the crisp on the chicken paired with the spice of the sauce made the perfect pair for my lunch. the owner was super duper nice. as soon as we walked in, he greeted us & sat us immediately. he gave us some water, which was served out of these really nice glasses which added to the overall experience of this restaurant. what i really liked was the money tree in the front of the establishment. the restaurant is decorated really well, and this food is super duper authentic and tasty. the food was also kinda cheap for its quality, which the freshness of the food is OUT OF THIS WORLD!! please go here, you wont regret it.

This is a lovely place! It's a small establishment so if you go during peak dinner time, expect a wait. We came in as a table of 2 around 6pm, and there was a 30 minute wait. The restaurant is located around a few shops and other businesses so we walked for a bit before getting called back. The servers were attentive. We ordered the jeyuk Bokkeum and tofu Bokkeum, I recommend ordering a side of rice since the meal doesn't come with a starch. Our meals were tasty and I highly recommend. I saw a few other tables order soup and they all seemed fairly large so I would recommend sharing those dishes. Overall a lovely place with great food! We will be back to try more.

We both thought the foods (and the service) was stellar last time. This time, however, a bit of a mixed review. In case I haven't mentioned, but they don't take reservations, so we came super-early again to snag one of their very few tables. Luckily, we were seated right away. The vibe wasn't really "on" this time. Barely audible K-Pop music (although the videos were on), lighting was too bright, etc.etc. Again, I also wished this place was bigger...with comfier seats. This time, we ordered the following to share: Anju Pajeon, Anju Toastada, Tteokkbokki, Bulgogi, and their dessert, Anju Ssamanco. Well, we both really liked the Toastada appetizer and the Tteokkbokki. Tteokkbokki was quite spicy, and came with loads of Fish Cakes (which I love!). In a way, I think I would have liked it even more if it was a tad less spicy? It was borderline too spicy. I was really impressed with the presentation of their dessert, Anju Ssamanco...this Frozen waffle with mochi ice cream and hazelnut stick. Very shareable dessert for 2, but light on portions. The things I wasn't too into this time was their Pajeon. Maybe the novelty of their Seafood Waffle (over the Seafood Pancake) wore off, but somehow, it tasted WAY too bland. The Waffle, the Seafood inside, and the sauce...ALL bland! How could anything taste so bland in a Korean restaurant?!? Also, I recall absolutely loving their Bulgogi last time...but this time, something was off. While the meat was quite tender, it wasn't marinated enough or cooked long enough, or something...just not as flavorful (at least to me). BTW, my hubby got beer again, and this time, I tried their Yuzu cocktail. Sadly, this cocktail was somewhat disappointing. Guess I expected something more? Except for the exquisite dessert, Ssamanco, I thought the presentation for the other dishes could have been better. For instance, I thought the Shrimp Toastadas looked a bit cheap with the purple cabbage. To me at least, everything looked and tasted at least 20% worse than on my 1st visit. Still very good, but not quite as stellar as how I remembered it. Same with the service. Very courteous still...but a tad too slow on the take. We had to ask for every little thing...like Spoons, Rice, Kimchi, table cleaning, etc.etc. I just don't know...the energy, the vibe, the foods, the presentation, the service was dimmer...Everything seemed just a bit less this time. Struggled with 3 and 4 stars...but decided to drop just 1 star from my first review. Hoping it was just a bad night?

One of the best lunch meals in Charlotte. First time here and will most definitely be back. Clean, light, tasty, multiple small plates. Definitely give them a shot.

On Saturdays, there is usually no wait between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM. From 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, the typical wait is 30–40 minutes. After 10:00 PM, wait times may be longer depending on how busy we are.…

It's clean but plain, with some old tables and chairs inside and on the sparse patio. But you aren't paying for ambiance. For that, go elsewhere. But if you want hearty food at a good price, The Roasting Company is your place. My favorite forever was either the chicken jaco or the chicken and queso, both served on rice that I then mix with a healthy side of steamed spinach. Then I discovered the Thursday chicken and dumplings, which is what I had today and why I am finally letting you all in on where to get excellent chicken and dumplings if Dish (off Central) is too far away. Like everything we've ordered at Roasting Company, the serving is generous and stick-to-your-ribs delicious. Don't let the size fool you, if you're going for takeout; that 16oz container is filled to the brim with a thick mix of tender shredded chicken, dumpling noodles and a dense, flavorful sauce. Mind you, all the chicken and sides I've tried there are good to excellent (except I didn't really care for the smoked cheese and pasta salad). My husband swore by the chicharrons and the chips and queso or guacamole are solid sides. So if you happen by there after the chicken and dumplings has sold out - which happens pretty much every Thursday - or it's another day of the week, you can't miss with their regular menu or their other specials. So many of our older Charlotte favorites have gone out of business or the owners retired. Heed my advice and try The Roasting Company. Long may it serve us delicious food!

Walking into the lobby, I was hit with a stale, dank, musty smell, which seemed to be coming from the restrooms located right at the front entrance. The waiting bench was cluttered with high piles of boxes, which didn't make the best first impression, and the hand towel dispenser in the ladies' room was out of order. The Food: I paid $11 for five skinny, dry wings paired with a watery blue cheese dressing. For "jumbo" wings, they were pretty mid. The menu overall feels like it could use an upgrade (Bad Daddy's Burgers right across the street sets a much better benchmark for this type of casual spot burger). The staff and the playlist were fun, but between the lacking atmosphere and disappointing food, it falls right in the middle for me.

Around 9:20 PM, I received a call from Olivia, the shift lead. She was incredibly calm, professional, and kind while explaining that she wasn't at the store and the employees working that night were fairly new and that they usually appreciate a little advance notice for catering orders. She asked whether I still wanted to move forward with the order. I told her I completely understood the situation and wouldn't be upset if they needed to cancel since it was so late and inconvenient. A little while later, Olivia called me back to let me know the catering had turned out great and that they could still deliver it if I wanted. When the order arrived, I was so impressed! Both catering boxes looked fantastic, and everything was prepared beautifully. I truly appreciate the employees who stayed late and put such care into making our order, and I especially want to thank Olivia for her outstanding customer service. A true Charlotte staple and one that has been around for 18+ years for good reason! This little gem…read moreis quaint, cozy, dimly lit, and perfect for a date night, which is exactly how we spent our anniversary. We started with cocktails, which were delicious, followed by the pork belly bao buns. These disappeared so quickly I'm honestly impressed I managed to get a picture. The homemade focaccia was a little underwhelming on its own and could've used more flavor, but the onion jam served with it was fantastic and definitely helped bring it to life. The shrimp & grits were everything you'd expect from a Southern-inspired dish, with barbecue sauce and homemade pickled red onions adding a great twist. Then came the spätzle, and as a German girlie, I take my spätzle seriously. This one absolutely delivered! The chicken was incredibly tender, and the cilantro, scallions, chili crisp, and other spices gave it such a fun, unexpected spin. We also tried the cacio e pepe, which was simple, delicious, and clearly done right. It's one of those dishes with so few ingredients that you know immediately when someone nails it. Our only real miss was the chef's counter. I expected more of an actual chef-counter experience (you know, like interaction with the chef and a peek at the action), but the main chef seemed to be off to the side and never really interacted with us. There was someone doing some prep work in front of us, but it didn't feel like the experience I had envisioned. Honestly, I'd rather have sat within the main dining room. Still, that's a small blip in an otherwise fantastic anniversary dinner. We were too full for dessert (a tragedy), left with leftovers, and most importantly, left with a great memory as they are closing their doors soon so the owner can open a new style restaurant. Reservations are definitely recommended since it's small and fills up quickly. If you haven't been, add this Charlotte staple to your list before it's gone... you won't regret it!

Great recommendations! The drinks were great- we enjoyed the Smoke 'Em While You Got Em, cucumber kiss, and espresso martini. They were so yummy! Not too strong. Food was awesome- we loved the bread, catch of the day, Korean beef, Spätzle, cacio de Pepe. For dessert- pot de creme and Affrogato. Can't wait to come back!

The restaurant was very clean and the noise volume low enough to where we could visit and comfortably carry on conversations. Our waiter was gracious and helped us to catch up with the rest of our party. We ordered a bottle of Pinot Nior and Dinner while the rest of our party finished their appetizers and salads. I ordered the steak frites and it was just wonderful! My boyfriend ordered the special which was halibut, asparagus, and mushroom risotto. Everything was perfect! The couple that was seated across from us split the special. The kitchen didn't hesitate to split this dish for them in the kitchen before bringing it out to our table. This is just excellent customer service! They are an elderly couple and could not possibly have eaten the entire meal by themselves. Our waiter was very attentive and nobody at the table ever had an empty glass. Also, your plate was cleared the moment that you finished with your meal. This was our first visit, but definitely not the last. Thank you for making our evening out with family and friends so very special. We will definitely be back in the near future.

The other, lettuce (never have seen that in a Maine lobster roll) and aioli). The one with butter had a nice brioche roll but most of the lobster was small claw ends vs nice chunks. The one on lettuce was better, more larger pieces of lobster, but meat was put onto a lot of lettuce to prop it up. It takes some effort, but buying a live lobster and cooking oneself is really the best way. I was hopeful- but ultimately disappointed.
