I made RSVP for this Korean restaurant on a Sunday evening...and it was bustling! Despite RSVP for the main room, we got seated in an extended part of the room (more like an indoor patio?)...so frankly, the ambiance was a bit off for me. So was the overhead music. Guess I expected a more authentic Korean experience, but the place was more or less an Americanized Korean bistro. Still, the foods seemed authentic! We ordered a few things to share... Mandu, Dolsot Bibimbap, and this Ssam Board. For drinks, my husband got some beer (?), and I got this fruity cocktail (??). First, the positives! The Mandu was really, really good...and quite meaty! The Dolsot Bibimbap was good in that it came with a generous load of fresh veggies. Now the problems. The Bulgogi in the Dolsot Bibimbap was problematic. It was a bit too fatty...and too chunky...and just hard to eat. It was also a bit bland! They should have cut it up a bit...or provided us with proper cutlery, like a fork and a knife! This is a pet peeve of mine...but nowadays, hardly any restaurant gives you the full set of cutlery. Just fork, or just chopsticks!! Then the Ssam Board. While it looked luscious, I personally had a problem with the meat. While I love Galbi, cuts of Galbi was all-out rare. The waiter didn't even ask for our preference, by the way. If I knew it'd be prepared that red, I would have ordered something else. If it was medium-rare, for instance, I might have liked this dish. My husband prefers a much more rare cut of meat than me, yet even he thought this was too red. Also, I expected something more than raddish for sides. Not sure if this "Board" was worth $42. We also tried this Black Sesame Ice Cream dessert. I loved the flavor...but nothing too special. Service was a bit off as well. While friendly at our table, our waiter wasn't too attentive...especially in the beginning. If he stopped by our table earlier, I might have gotten them to bring back the Ssam Board to cook the meat a bit more. Frankly, I was underwhelmed with the foods, the presentation, even the service. Overall, there were just too many things amiss (or just underwhelming??)...so much so that I doubt I'll pick this place again.
I'd heard great things about Anju and was excited to finally visit! I made a reservation for our party of 3 which I definitely recommend as there was already a line forming before they opened. We ordered a few drinks and mandu to start before getting to our main courses of pork rib kimchi fried rice, palace ddukbokgi, and bibimbap. I had the bibimbap which could easily have fed two and was chock full of veggies, but could've used a bit more seasoning. It comes with gochujang on the side so maybe I should've added more! I was also surprised that the banchan weren't complimentary like at other Korean places I've been to so unfortunately we didn't try any of those.
Super friendly service, tasty flavors, and a kind of dark but cozy ambiance around the restaurant. Staff were all super friendly! We ordered the mandu (pretty standard), chikin (larger than expected and a crazy good crunch!), Palace ddukbokgi (enjoyed the sweet soy base instead of the typical spicy gochujang which I avoid due to being weak with spicy foods), and Dolsot Bibim Bap (we chose bulgogi and it was yummy!). I'd say the standout dish was the chikin, which we didn't expect to like as much as we did! I was evidently too busy eating it to remember to take a picture of it...
Anju Overall Rating:(2/5 Stars) I fear I just don't get the hype. For a place that rarely has reservations available, I expected to be wowed, but instead I left underwhelmed and slightly confused. Nothing was outright bad, but very little felt consistently great. Food: * Chikin $25: I may not be a fan of double-fried chicken, at least not with this style of coating. It was thick, sticky, and overwhelming to the point that it was hard to enjoy the actual chicken. The white meat pieces were especially dry, which only made the heavy coating more noticeable. Flavor was just okay. I liked the white BBQ sauce, but I was too distracted by everything else to fully enjoy it. * Dak Mandu $19: I sent this back. The flavors fell flat, and while I've been loving apple in savory dishes lately, this version felt one-dimensional and uninspired. * Broccolini Twigim $17: A standout. The coating was crisp and flavorful, and the buchu ranch was incredible. This dish had balance, texture, and personality. * Mandu $16: I see why this was on nearly every table. Hearty, comforting, and reliably tasty. Classic dumplings done well. Service: I was seated in a tucked-away corner that made it difficult for staff to see me, which led to inconsistent service. Everyone was friendly and helpful when we did interact, but there were several moments where I was clearly trying to get attention and couldn't. At one point, I had to get up to flag someone down myself. Not terrible service, just not attentive. Disclaimer: These are my personal opinions. Please try these restaurants and form your own judgments--it's what I would do.
Always a pleasure stopping at Anju. It's a modern interpretation of Korean cuisine that still manages to hold onto some authentic elements. We went for brunch and shared a Gimbap Box and a Hansik Jeongsik. Both were good, but the Hansik was definitely the tastier of the two. Service was pleasant and the ambience as lovely as ever. That exposed burned wall never gets old.
Great happy hour options! They have a good quality selection of items with sizable portions. Definitely enough for sharing. Everything was well seasoned. From the dinner menu we ordered the bibimbap. It was a large portion and packed with veggies. The cucumber and kimchi banchan tasted great. Their downstairs bar area and happy hour seating is limited so we arrived at the start of the happy hour to ensure we could get a spot. Employees were super friendly. After we shared our after dinner plans to visit the Washington Monument, with the server, he went above and beyond. He found a coworker who was familiar with the area and she came to our table to give us some great insider knowledge for our visit. What a pleasant surprise! Thank you to the staff for a great meal and the friendly welcoming environment.
With 600 reviews and counting ANJU does not need my comments but...still. ANJU rocks Great, laid back, fun atmosphere. Wonderful, friendly, enthusiastic staff. The food is out of this world. The drinks are special, and the presentation is (chef's kiss). Man I want to live within walking distance of ANJU.
I was celebrating a special occasion with a group of friends. Once seated, I was greeted by a card that read: "Thank you for joining us on your special day." I appreciated the thoughtful gesture. My friends and I kicked things off with a round of sana sana (Singani 63, Mal bien limon mezcal, falernum charred orange, yujacha, and yuzu) cocktails. Our cheerful waitress Cecilia told us it was a limited edition and indeed they had sold out before we could order a second round. We ordered the mandu, chikin, and broccolini twigim appetizers to share. Everything was tasty, especially the mandu dumplings. We ordered the saengseon (branzino), ssam board, and palace ddukbokgi with bulgogi for our entrees. Everything was divine and filling. Our wooden table had a rotating center that made it easy to share dishes without reaching over anyone. We capped things off with the coffee cheesecake and misugaru doughnuts. The cheesecake was just ok; however, the doughnuts with pistachio ice cream and a dusting of cinnamon sugar were delicious. We were the last table to leave at the end of the night and we never felt rushed.
I was looking for a spot to take my kid before he goes back to college and ANJU popped up on my screen. Scheduling was a snap, and our table was ready when we arrived. They have a very simple menu with something for everyone on it. The downstairs area was packed, but upstairs they had tables that were well spaced out. It was lively, but you could still have a conversation. I ordered the dolsot bibimbap with Bulgogi. Well, it was served in a hot stone bowl, the rice on the bottom was not crispy. Despite that, it was very good. That's the biggest knock I have on this place. Everything else was fantastic and the ingredients were high-quality. We got the donuts for dessert. They were fantastic. If you guzzle soda, know that even though it's fountain soda, they charge per glass.
We visited Anju on a double date with another couple back in August 2025, and we had a wonderful experience. First, I highly recommend making a reservation, even on a weeknight. This is a small venue and it gets packed. Thankfully, we had a reservation for the four of us. We had to wait a little longer outside, but not much. Our server was nice and got us started with water, apps, and drinks right away. For dinner, I had the Palace Ddukbokgi, which consists of rice cakes, green beans, zucchini, carrots, mushrooms, onion, kale, sweet soy. Both of the guys had Bibim Bap, and the other lady with us had the Palace Ddukbokgi but added bulgogi (you can also add tofu as a vegetarian option, but I didn't). We shared some delicious apps, and the Broccolini Twigim was my favorite. It is tempura broccolini and was delicious. The Ddukbokgi was a great entrée and very flavorful. I didn't have anything alcoholic to drink, but lots of options are available. My husband had a Korean beer and I tasted his. This is a great spot for a date night in Adams Morgan. I loved that this area of DC has so many ethnic food options as well.
The atmosphere is lively and welcoming, making it a great spot to hang out and enjoy good food. It's a good spot for to catch up with friends, date night, etc. The vibes are lovely! The menu offers a creative twist on classic Korean dishes, blending familiar flavors with modern flair. Everything felt thoughtfully done and exciting without losing the essence of traditional Korean cuisine. The staff is attentive and helpful with their recommendations. Definitely a place I'd come back to for both the food and the energy. The menu is seasonal and swapped out with seasonal items. We were craving Korean food and decided to try this spot even though we knew seating might be tough -- they were fully booked and only taking walk-ins at the bar. Luckily, it was worth the wait. The restaurant is small but super cute and cozy. We ordered the Ssam board and the kimchi jjigae. The Ssam board was the star of the night -- honestly one of the most flavorful Korean cooked meat wraps I've had. Beautiful presentation, super fresh, and so inviting. The kimchi jjigae, though, was a miss for me. It was too salty and the meat was a bit too fatty, so I'd probably pass on it next time. Overall, the food was good, but I personally prefer something a little more traditional and authentic. Ambiance is quaint, service was great, and overall it was a nice experience. Would go back for the Ssam board alone!
We're so glad we stumbled by this place while walking through Dupont Circle! We ordered the chikin, honey corn, banchan, & the palace ddukbokgi and everything was packed with flavor. The chikin had a great sauce and an amazingly crunchy texture, and the ddukbokgi had a great assortment of veggies to go along with it. The service was fast and thoughtful- we came near the end of the summer and the mosquitos were VICIOUS. But the staff was prepared to hand us bug spray (pictured) when we needed it most. Overall the restaurant had a chill vibe, would definitely come here to catch up with an old friend and share some really delicious food. read more
Okay I was very skeptical but my friend dragged us here and I'm so glad he did! I'm not Korean but Anju seems more like a Korean fusion spot and the food was delicious! We got the beef tare tare, the fish, and the curry stone pot rice + the beef platter and everything was pretty delicious. I loved the fish, it was fried perfectly and the flavors were so goods. The beef was cooked perfectly, the rice had great seafood and good but not overpowering flavor. This was absolutely the fastest service I have ever had. I swear the food came in like 10 minutes! The waiters were super nice and provided great recommendations. The atmosphere of the restaurant was chill but not super noisy like a lot of restaurants. We will definitely be back! read more

ANJU has a really nice vibe and is set in a unfinished old house. Really comfortable and the a/c was so cool, perfect on a hot evening. We had 2 cocktails which were very good. Especially one of them. Ume-king me crazy? I think that's what it was called. Really good. We had Mandu which were great. The chikin was pretty heavy and a huge portion. We couldn't eat much after that. We did order the Dolsot and the Kimchi Jigae though. We probably in hindsight should not have ordered dishes from the Mama Lee's classic Section. While they were very good, it was so heavy and a huge portion, there was no way to eat it and finish it. My only real issue though was the rice on the bottom of the dolsot pot was not crispy at all. Everything was steamed and a bit mushy under there. Service was excellent. read more

My wife and I paused for a moment at the corner of 18th and S to soak in our environment. A former Washingtonian, I hadn't been back for a few years and was just taking in a neighborhood where I'd spent many a Friday after work happy hour. A woman who lived on the block noticed and asked if we were looking for dinner options. I said no, we'd booked Anju - were just pausing for a moment before heading in. She said "well, you can't do better than that" and rattled off 10 or so dishes we "couldn't miss" Well, we didn't order 10 dishes but we did follow her advice on several and had an incredible meal. The sauce with the "Chikin" in particular was to die for - I could have taken home a whole jar of it. In review, I would have opted for the lamb or branzino (which our neighbors ordered) over the rice. Fantastic meal - look forward to returning the next time I'm in the area. read more
Food sampled/devoured: Mandu Chikin Roasted Bone Marrow Cheese Sprouts Dak Jjim Kimchi Jjigae Palace Ddukbokgi Dankatsu Strawberry Lychee Lemonade Cider Rose The only dish I didn't enjoy was the roasted bone marrow. The flavor didn't stand out to most of the table, and the bread made it a little difficult to fully experience the marrow. Everything else was a hit. Everyone sampled a little of everything, and we left fully satisfied and a little too full. Everything was extremely flavorful, and the portion sizes made it well worth the overall price. The service was efficient and quick once it actually got started. Once the orders were placed, the food was delivered pretty quickly. The location is on the smaller side, so I can understand why reservations get booked up quickly, but it was well worth the hype. The vibe was pretty cool, I did let out a chuckle or two with the music selection, it didnt take away from the experience. I will definitely be back. read more

Overall Experience, 3.75/5: We came here for brunch and it was a pretty average experience overall. Of course with DC you have to keep in mind the parking. Food/Drink, 3.75/5: The food was pretty good, but tbh didn't live up to the hype that other people rated it. The loaded totes was really good, just missing some salt. The spicy chicken sandwich was pretty good, spice level was on par. It was just really big and wasn't sure how to attack it. Pricing, 5/5: You get more than you pay for in terms of portions! They don't skimp out like other places! Service, 4/5: Service was pretty good! Food came out pretty quickly and our server was super helpful! Aesthetic/Atmosphere, 4/5: It's a cute little restaurant, definitely looks a lot bigger on the inside and decorated really well! read more
We had another fine meal here. We stopped in without a reservation on this fairly warm evening and had no competition for sitting on the patio (there was a slight breeze, which was helpful). We arrived during happy hour and were able to get Ichiban drafts (NOT an inspiring beer list) which I had as a shandy with a citrus soju added). Nancy we shared the happy hour mandu (3 pieces for $6, which were good. The jujube glazed carrots, herbed with zaatar and other flavors and served with a tasty yogurt sauce, were outstanding. Nancy's main dish was the happy hour Jjajang Rabokii, noodles with mushrooms, kidney beans and rice cakes, which I thought was fine; Nancy felt it was just ordinary. My main dish was the Djak Jim, boneless chunks of chicken thigh simmered in a red chili sauce with potatoes -- this arrives still simmering in a clay bowl and was delicious atop rice. The chicken chunks were just cooked enough to be tender. There was more than enough food to satisfy us for dinner (indeed, I took a small amount home for a workday lunch in the coming week), but my fancy had been struck by the dessert menu, and indeed the mango meringue pie was the second hit of the evening (maybe even better than the carrots). The pie was "deconstructed" into slices of crust (not the highlight of the pie), dollops of mango mousse and diced pieces of mango as well as as little breast-like circles of meringue (see the photo). Service was attentive without being cloying, and the whole meal including a healthy tip as under $100 for two. We'll be back again. read more

Really cute place with two levels and an outdoor patio, remember to get a reservation online as it fills up fast. Highly recommended by my coworker who stays in DC, this was one of the places I was most excited to try when I visited DC. Staff were friendly, and food was good. The standout was the Ssam, with the beef ribeye pieces seasoned and charred, with a large variety of vegetables and sauces to make wraps. I added their kimchi banchan which wasn't spicy but very pickled, extremely delicious! Followed closely by the kimchi pork dumpling sitting in a sesame soy sauce mix.a must get! The fried chicken had a tad too much flour on it, but the chicken inside was tender, which made it a little better. read more
Saw some reviews for Anju on Yelp a while back and decided I had to make the trek. Arrived late for 7pm reservations but called ahead to let them know. We were seated right away for a party of 4. Ordered a round of drinks, 3 appetizers: chikin, Mandu and the ssam board. The appetizers came out very quickly, even faster than our drinks. Keep that in mind when ordering. The old fashioned was sublime as was the espresso martini. For entrees I ordered the bibimbap but tasted the Ori Jajang Myeon (duck breast) and was super impressed. I wasn't as happy with my bibimbap as I've had this at most places and something wasn't right. The rice wasn't quite the same or there wasn't enough bulgogi meat but I couldn't quite determine what it was. The appetizers we ordered definitely outdid the entrees. I came for Sunday brunch and was somewhat satisfied with the food, but service was lacking A LOT. For drinks, we got the strawberry & lychee lemonade and the un "pear" able cocktail. The lemonade was refreshing and on the sweeter side, while the cocktail was quite strong for brunch/lunch. They tasted good mixed together though. As for the food, we ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and the galbi burger. We tried to order the bossam, but they had sold out of it. The spicy chicken sandwich had all the right flavors, however, the bun got so soggy and the entire sandwich had fallen apart before I was even half way through eating it. The galbi burger tasted as expected, and the bun was also very soggy. While we were seated very quickly, the food took over 20 minutes to come out. The server never came over after taking our order and we had to call them over to get our check. Overall, I probably wouldn't come back here again unless my meal was being paid for. read more
PORTIONS PORTIONS PORTIONS! This place does not cheat you out of how much food you're getting and for that, they deserve all the flowers. The wings appetizer is more like an entree. That can definitely fill a person, maybe add some rice on the side for some balance but they were delicious! Crunchy and flavorful. GET THE IMPOSSIBLE MEAT DUMPLINGS! 10/10 I dream of these dumplings. The portion size was perfect and got me excited for the next meal. The only reason I didn't give 5 stars was for the dessert. I was so disappointed. I'm always looking forward to the dessert after my meal and the rice pudding was horrible. It tasted like warm oatmeal but with rice instead of oats. And the warm fruit on top made it worse. 2/10 for me. But I wouldn't let that stop me from returning. The service was great and considering the fact we didn't have a reservation which I recommend, we were sat fairly quickly at the bar which we loved. Shout out to the bartenders for their lovely service. The place is rather small but they have a second floor so I'm not sure how big it is upstairs. read more

This was my first time trying Korean food, and it definitely didn't disappoint! I loved the decor at Anju, and our server was incredibly kind and accommodating with our dietary needs. The tater tots were the best I've ever had, and the Gilgeori Toast was both delicious and massive! We also got a side of kimchi--it was quite sour, but it paired perfectly with our meal. I'm excited to return and try their dinner menu! read more

This cozy little restaurant was so yummy! It's an intimate two floor restaurant with a homey feel. The ssam board was AMAZING! The meat was perfectly cooked to a medium rare and it just melted in your mouth. The board had everything you could need for a perfect wrap. The palace ddukbokgi had lots of reviews online so I had to try it. We got ours with bulgoggi and the rice cake was so soft and not overly chewy but just the perfect amount. The bulgoggi was a little salty for my taste so I would've preferred just getting the ddukbokgi by itself with no meat add on. Although the meat was cooked nice and tender. read more
Tbh I did not have much experience with Korean food other than Korean bbq. ANJU is a great place to be able to take an extensive dive into the diverse world of Korean food. There were so many vegetarian options which I greatly appreciated, but there were still meat options as well. We started off with the house soju (amazing). To eat we got a little bit of everything and it was all amazing. The stand out to me was the dish with the lotus root. The flavor was almost bbq-like. ANJU has a very trendy, yet comfortable atmosphere. It is a perfect date night atmosphere or for catching up with friends. The plates are very shareable! read more
This place earned all their stars today. We had their version of steak and eggs with rice and side salad. The steak was prepared to medium temperature. The rice was covered with furikake and butter. It was a perfect dish. My son devoured their KFC with waffles. The chicken was flavorful and the cream and syrup perfectly complemented the waffles. We will try this place again during normal dining hours. It was fairly limited during brunch. Service was fine. read more

Anju is consistently great. I realize all the feedback about it not being "authentic" or "fusion" but Korean cuisine itself is transforming, and I think Anju does its best to capture the essence of a dish including all traditional flavors, and elevating it with good ingredients and something with another culture to complement the dish. An example would be the fried chicken dish. It's on point -- juicy, saucy, and captures everything you'd want in KFC (Korean Friend Chicken) but adds a white Alabama sauce that complements it so well. I recommend all of the dishes at Anju and would definitely be back! read more
Anju is a special place. I honestly could come here for lunch, dinner, or simply to have a drink. The vibe is so lively, yet laid back. The dishes that we enjoyed were the House Kimchi which was fresh and garlic-flavored. The bone marrow, I would prefer if the marrow was already detached from the bone, it can take a little time and effort to yank it from the bone then place it on the bread, then adding toppings like the bacon jam and pickled shishito with pear-quite delicious. Hwe was beautiful in presentation and pleasing to the pallet; light and simple, thinly sliced trout roe with ginger and a sweet and spicy red sauce on the side, fish under on a bed of shredded jicama. The Dak Jjim was the show stopper, a sweet and spicy stew with chicken thighs and potatoes, that comes out smoking hot in a clay pot. This dish was more than enough for two people and definitely came in at a 10 on the comfort food scale. I recommend the Forbidden Fruit cocktail if you like citrus and mezcal. Definitely want to come back and try more selections from their carefully crafted menu. I loved that Anju covers a range of tastings from the Korean tradition. The staff is very friendly and helpful with describing the selections and surprisingly it's quite reasonable. I learn. I eat. I learn. It's fun stuff! Parking is difficult, make it easy on yourself and go to the garage in Adams Morgan and walk down to the restaurant. read more
I had takeout from Anju once early in the pandemic but there's nothing like stopping by for an in-person visit. The space is cozy but vibrant. We were seated upstairs at a big round table with a lazy susan which made sharing everything so easy. We ordered two kettles of the Makgeolli one hot one cold to start. They were delicious (we ended up ordering two more for five of us). Everything else we ordered was also incredible. I would come back again and again for the crab noodles and the Honey Butter Goguma- the whipped cream is not sweetened and balances out the honey really well. My friends loved the pork dumplings (mandu) and the fried chicken (though they said they would pass on the chicken next time in favor of trying other things). We also got Palace Ddukbokgi (not pictured), they were tasty but we honestly were full from the other dishes by the time they arrived. And of course don't sleep on the kimchi. I really enjoyed my visit and definitely will be back!! read more
My boyfriend and I did our early Valentines here on the 12th and gosh we were blown away. We were seated upstairs in a rear corner which made it super intimate and enjoyable. I ended up having two glasses of the Bordeaux. My boyfriend enjoyed the Soju Bourbon cocktail, a glass of the Bordeaux, and some of the house soju. We both enjoyed every sip down to the last drop of each of our drinks. My bourbon drinking boyfriend is very much a purist but really enjoyed Anju's take on a "bourbon." We started with a set of three of the Panchan. The 30 day kimchi, pickled cucumbers, and sweet lotus root. They were kind enough to throw in the brussel sprout kimchi on the house. If you've never had sweet lotus root I cannot recommend it enough! We also had an order of the Hwe. Truly could've drank the blood orange vinaigrette. Delicious! We ordered the same entrées- the Ori Jajang Myeon (Duck). Clearly we both LOVE duck and this was hands down the best duck dish we've ever had both in how it was cooked and the overall taste of the dish. The bowl of noodles is more than enough for one sitting and we ended up taking a good portion of the noodles home. We love Anju and can't wait to return! read more

korean food has rapidly risen in my cuisine rankings this past month and I have to give some of this credit to anju - not pictured was the Dolsot Bibim Bap and Lamb Yukaejang- the kimchi jigae was super flavorful with soft tofu and chewy pork belly bits. there was a ton of kimchi to pair with each protein bite and the stew itself was very flavorful but super light that I didn't have that post-ramen death feeling that we all know - my qualm with this dish was that it came out bubbling in one of those stone bowls which visually was remarkable but the dish was so hot it was inedible until my company was about half way done with their meals.... - the palace ddubokgi sauce was divine, salty yet sweet and the vegetables were perfectly cooked. the rice cakes were thicker than I have seen before, also shoutout the gluten free menu! small but nice to have that on the ready - the actual restaurant is two floors, very simple and aesthetic. the exposed brick and big light tables were lovely additions to the townhouse feel. the service was not very attentive or personal, defiantly did not match what id expect for this restaurants price tag - not pictured was the Dolsot Bibim Bap and Lamb Yukaejang, which were both praised read more
I was recommended this restaurant during my visit to DC. My friend and I were able to stop by during their brunch; you have to make reservations because they get very busy throughout the day. This place is definitely trendy and aesthetic, but seemed like it catered more to western interests from the decor, music, etc. As for the food, we both ordered the fried chicken sandwich. I especially enjoyed the crispiness of the chicken and the pickled vegetables. However, there was way too much buldak sauce, which left the buns dripping in red oil. I didn't think the sauce was very spicy, but just the sheer amount of it was overwhelming. Although the sandwich is decently sized, the $15 price point seems pretty steep to me, especially when you don't get any sides. When visiting a new city, you start your food research. I read about ANJU, just a quick read about being there for happy hour, so I put that in my notes about arriving at 5pm. On vacation 5pm comes really fast. Never at work! I made my way to the bar, hoping I would remember what I read that had me wanting to go there at 5p on the dot! Well, well, well. When I glanced at the delicious happy hour menu, low and behold, kimchi slaw dog! YES, this is what I read about. SOLD. I am a huge hot dog fan, so if you are too, set your calendar for a weekday 5pm at ANJU! They also had a chicken sandwich; I will try that next visit. Super nice bartenders made sure I had everything I needed and happy hour only last one hour, so they come around and ask if you want to order anything else before it ends. I had a great evening at Anju, they also have a delicious soju menu. I went another night too during my stay, different guys at the bar and they were just as nice as my first visit. My second visit was a weekend evening, so I ordered the rice cake dish. It was phenomenal, piping hot, loaded with interesting vegetables. This is a great neighborhood restaurant, with a fantastic menu. Seriously thank you for your excellent service. It will be my first stop when I return to our Nation's capital! read more
My partner and I had a great experience at Anju. This is my 4th time going and her 2nd time going. Booking a seat is extremely different but I am happy we got a reservation. We had a great time. The food was phenomenal and the staff was great. The "Chikin" was fantastic. I tried their whiskey drink "tell me why" and let me tell you why this was one of the best drinks I've ever had. I've been wanting to dine in here since we've had two good takeout meals here. I was luckily able to grab an 11:30 brunch reservation on Sunday morning. I thought parking would be tough but we got lucky and found something one block over. Guy at the host stand was super friendly and got us inside very quickly. We were seated upstairs in a very nice room by ourselves (for half the time at least). We were able to get the menu via QR code but our server took our order. We got the Widow's Peak, a Bellini, and a Korean MAXX (iced coffee) to drink. For food we ordered the Pork Belly Dosirak, Grilled Kalbi & Eggs, and an order of small loaded hash brown coins. I'm not a whiskey person usually but that widow's peak went down smooth. Bellini was also nice but I only had a sip. The Korean MAXX was strong and just sweet enough. I've had the hash brown coins before and it's perfect and the small is a good enough amount for two of the bigger entrees. The pork belly dosirak was huge. It had a lot of banchan and a lot of pork belly. I also loved the one chicken wing they included. The pork belly was very flavorful but definitely had some tough parts to chew. Same kind of goes for the kalbi, great flavor but parts were hard to chew at times. Paying the check was cool because you had the option to scan a QR or give payment to the server so you could get out fast if you wanted. My fourth time eating at Anju and I finally had the patience to take a photo BEFORE I started eating. It was my first time coming in with a reservation of five people. This is the perfect number because they'll seat you at the round table upstairs with the lazy susan. I'm already a sucker for round tables, throw in a lazy susan and I know it's about to be a fantastic meal. I went with my favorite group of friends to eat with, meaning they'll try anything and share everything. So we each chose one thing off the menu for the group to share. FOOD: - The Yukhoe (beef tartare) was a pleasant surprise and was a nice refreshing bite among the hot dishes - The branzino and kimchi jjigae were both really good filling main dishes. - The chicken wings were fabulous per usual and I recommend getting this dish if it's your first time at Anju - It was my first time ordering a ssam board at a restaurant and I really enjoyed getting to assemble my lettuce wraps. The meat was tender and the garlic was roasted to perfection. - The house infused makgeolli was AMAZING. The guava and pandan flavors were sweet but not too sweet. Definitely will be reordering this carafe. We were all set to order every dessert but we were running late for a show we had tickets for. I definitely want to try both the rice pudding and the plum strawberry bingsu. A neighboring table ordered both and they looked so tasty. SUCH a cool spot! Looking for a place with super unique drinks?! Look no further! All the drinks we had were very light and uniquely flavored. The food was amazing too... most of it was on the spicy side for my taste, but I loved the (I forget what it's called but it's the pic with the bowl of yummy goodness with the egg on top)! Most of the times when I think about Korean food, it's KBBQ so Anju was a nice change. I recommend leaving early to find parking (it took at 45 mins). We arrived late due to the parking situation but Anju was able to accommodate us even after the grace period. The staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered the yukhoe which was on the sweeter side and a different take on a beef tartare. The lotus chips were great! We were lucky enough to get a complimentary order of Mandu which we were great full for because they were phenomenal! Def preferred this over the yukhoe and one of the best dumplings I've had in the DMV! We shared the dolsat bibim bap and ssam board which were both good but nothing spectacular. Meats and toppings were all fresh and flavorful. The flan was good and just the right size after eating a good sized meal. Overall a pretty good experience. read more

Came here on a Sunday to finally give it a try. Wife and I have known about this place for a while, but after watching Lisa Ling's special on HBO, and finally finding some time to get away for a little in the afternoon, we said it's time to try it. First, we made reservations in advance, but when we showed up there were actually a lot of open tables. Parking is bad, because it is in DC. The place looked pretty cool inside and the main seating area is upstairs. Decor seemed pretty cool. The brunch menu is different that the dinner menu, and what was disappointing was that the Palace Ddukbokgi isn't available. I asked the waiter if he would ask the chef for an exception; unfortunately, the chef would not accommodate, even though dinner was only a few hours from then. Beware that prices are a bit steep for the Korean food here. This is probably because it's DC and it's "contemporary" Korean food. We decided on the Mandu to start, and then the Pork Belly Dosirak, and Soondubu Jjigae with Seafood. So "anju" in Korean means the food people eat usually while drinking, but the wife and I didn't want to imbibe any potent potables. So the food all in all was tasty. For the money paid, I felt I still needed to go to McDonald's to be satisfied (portions are small). Would I try this again? Probably not. Will I try Mandu and Chiko (restaurants from the Fried Rice Collective)? Maybe, just to cross it off the bucket list. Try it out and see for yourself! read more
