First let me say this is my first review here. Food is good but the service is so damn SLOW!!! They took just under an hour (55mins) for my food to come. The restaurant was not even busy. Waitress was no where to be found, had to go to the counter, wait for the workers stop talking, and ask them to find her. No heads up that food was behind. I came here for the first time this week as a party of 4 with my friends who are locals and have been here before. We were in the area and they recommended here since we didn't want to travel too far on a work night, so I just went with the flow and walked right in before yelping it. We parked in the back and there was tons of spots. The first thing I noticed was how beautiful the outdoor dining set up was as well as the restaurant building and interior. We were greeted right away and only waited about a minute as the worker checked if there was a table available. We walked past tons of people and were seated towards the back. I noticed that every single employee was wearing masks. As we sat down, our amazing server came over to greet us and told us about the virtual menu that we had to scan with our phones to pull up the full menu. As soon as you scan the QR code, it brings you to their hours not the menu. Shortly after he took our order it began to drizzle and unfortunately two people in our party was not covered under their giant outdoor umbrellas. We noticed employees were rushing to either adjust or open up more umbrellas right away. The closest worker that was in our section (we think he's the owner or probably someone in upper management) was checking up on nearby patrons by fixing their tables or umbrellas. Our entire party was literally staring at him waiting for him to make his way over to help us (we didn't know if it was ok to start moving their property or if he was going to adjust the umbrella like he did for other people) but NOPE, he looks us all in the eye and then hurries away. Ummm...ok?? Lol. Can't tell if that was more rude or awkward. I turned back to my friends and I literally saw them getting wet and their drinks being refilled by Mother Nature . Right as we picked up the table, our proactive server rushed over and offered to help. Our food didn't take long to come which was great because we were all starving after work. To my surprise, the portions were huge and delicious! I got the lamb gyro and for the first time it wasn't too spicy for me compared to other places. (I have a low spice tolerance). My boyfriend got a cheeseburger deluxe and the portions looked a lot bigger than most places we've been to lately. Our server (man, I wish I got his name because he deserves a shoutout) kept checking up on us and was on point throughout the night. Food is great- yet somedays orders are very skimpy- I can get a salad one day and the next time I order , barely anything in it, missing ingredients, as if they ran out..... Sandwiches full one day and the next skimpy... For to go orders- The girls rush you off the phone, they don't let you finish saying your order without interrupting and without fail every time you pick you the order it is always wrong. Most people don't go back to place they don't like. That is why I keep going back to this establishment. First of all it's clean, it's big so even when it's crowded you're not on top of one another and it's nicely decorated. The food is very good as is the service. It's a diner and I could say how elaborately decorated it is and how above average the food is or even how friendly the staff is or that it is unique in that it has an upper level for private parties... but that might sound disingenuous when talking about a mere diner. After all, we all know what comes to mind when we think of a diner. So maybe this a Diner dreaming about being a restaurant one day! Loved it when it was just Annandale Diner, used to be my favorite on the island (which is now Woodrow) but after the transition to the Terrace, the atmosphere is uncomfortably stuffy, it looks like they're trying to be more fancy than they really are. When we had lived on Staten Island the Annandale Diner was one of our favorites when it was first opened. Since they had opened the Annandale Terrace it has changed. We were visiting my father in law and we're heading for lunch. It was between the AT and and local diner. They left the decision to me and I chose the AT. Big mistake!!! I had always loved the cold turkey salad platter...it was bad. Hardly any lettuce, the cole slaw (which had always been good) was terrible. The gal we had as our server was the best part. I frequent this diner often and despite the fact that food is overpriced and the service slow, I thought the food was good. However, this past weekend my friend and I had lunch. We asked for pickles and coleslaw. She brought it and when we asked for more she said she had to charge for it. This seemed odd and cheap but we accepted that. When we received the bill, not only were we charged for the second serving of pickles and coleslaw, we were charged for the first! And the cost was over $5.00. I had such a great time at the Annadale Terrace Rooftop last night for my nephew Nicky's graduation party! The food was delish, the ambiance was elegant but casual, but the service is what really stands out. It was like the two young men that were working the party were mind readers, and always one step ahead. As I was eating, one of the graduation balloons that was tied to the railing kept hitting me in the head. I didn't say anything to anyone, didn't complain, but the young man came over and cut the annoying ballon down. As soon as a guest finished eating and put their fork down in their dish, these young men cleared the dish away. The bartender was excellent and did a great job as well. Reservation was made for a party of 15 at 6PM on Saturday Nov. 1st 2014. 4 of the 15 arrived at 5:30 and was told we had to wait until 6 (table wasn't ready). By 6 PM, everyone else arrived, table still wasn't ready. They were waiting for patrons to finish their meals at 5 tables against the wall. As the tables emptied, they were preparing them for us. Finally at 6:45 we were seated. The owner should of had those tables ready at least by 5:30. but greed got in the way and he sat others. I hope he is happy that he made a few extra bucks instead of having the table ready, because he lost all 15 of us as customers. The food wasn't worth the 45 minute wait. I have been here a couple of times and always thought the food was mediocre. I think they made this place too fancy inside for what is being served on the plate if you ask me. I most recently came here for a bridal shower and lets just say they should not be hosting any sort of events here PERIOD! The room was very tight and we could barely pass in between the tables (6 round tables total). Once I finally was able to get to my seat they just put two bottles of wine and a pitcher of water with no ice and we had to serve ourselves. With a place this nice the servers should have come around and served us. When the appetizers came they were on two trays (per table) and they must have been the heaviest plates. We had to again pass the food around the table, which would not have been a problem if the plates had not been so heavy. Then the salad was served, which was served soggy and with way too much cheese. There was more cheese then lettuce. The sever then came around and asked everyone what they wanted to eat. When he described the dishes he had to refer to his notepad and even when someone asked a question he was still clueless. He also said the dishes were served with asparagus and broccoli came out. I chose the steak dish because I couldn't understand what he was trying to say about the other dishes so I figured I couldn't go wrong with steak. When the dish arrived this is what I saw wrong before even cutting into my steak...it was garnished with an orange slice (this wasn't a breakfast dish and totally did not belong on the plate), it was also garnished with dried/burnt parsley (really you can't throw some fresh parsley on there?), the sauce on the steak was broken (don't put a sauce on a dish if you cant execute it), I got two giant pieces of broccoli bigger then my face (not asparagus as the server described). Then I cut into the steak and it must have just been slice off the cow it was so raw. The potatoes were under cooked and cold and bland! I could not even eat this dish. Once I cut into the steak I did not even want to touch it. The serve never came by to ask how the dishes came out. Bottom line is the service was horrible, the food was horrible. Just sad to see a place so nice with great decor and the food and service be less then average. read more

There is a sign on the counter when picking up an order to check your bag because there will be no refunds or exchanges if you notice a problem when you get home. Whose fault is it if there are missing or incorrect items in your order - the customers' - for not checking their bag? From reading many of these reviews and from my own personal experience, it seems that the diner has a problem filling orders correctly or there would be no need for the ridiculous sign. This sign clearly means that the diner is refusing to be accountable for their mistakes and throwing responsibility on the customer. Every time I place an order, there is ALWAYS a problem with either missing items or incorrect items. I usually unpack the whole order on the counter. Wait staff looks annoyed, but if they want to display that ridiculous sign, they will have to deal with it. Actually, the wait staff should pack the order in front of the customer. Wait staff also looks annoyed when you notice a problem and ask for missing items. Just a heads up: 1. items you will ALWAYS find missing: coleslaw, pickles, condiments, napkins, utensils, gravies, sauces etc. You must ask for these items or they will not be included. 2. items you should make sure to check: If you order sauce, gravy, dressing, etc. on the side, you must check that it is not already mixed into your food. That is a major mistake that I have found every time. After all of these negative experiences with incorrect orders, annoyed looks from staff and not providing proper customer service, I have decided that ordering from Annadale Terrace is just not worth the aggravation. read more

Proof that bigger isn't always better... We loved the Annadale Dinner and so looked forward to the new Annadale Terrace. What a great disappointment. I feel sorry for the owner who is a very nice guy and so wanted this to work out for him, but I'm afraid he may have been in a little over his head. The things that made the Dinner special (as run down as it was) was the great food and pleasant and attentive service. Unfortunately that's all gone. Some of the staff remained, but the new staff are beyond incompetent, inattentive and not very pleasant. The quality of the food has also gone down considerably. I'm not sure who designed this place, but I would ask for my money back. The tables and booths are way too small and the seat height to table height is off. The chairs are too high for the tables and very uncomfortable. There's plenty of room so I see no need for the miniature furniture. And for some reason, maybe the large space, the screams of every cranky baby in the place seems to resonate and get amplified off the wall. Its really loud in there. I've tried to go back several times chalking it up to opening pains, but I've been rudely given the wrong order almost every time, had to track down my waitress by foot several times and the food just isn't worth it anymore. This used to be the Annadale Diner but they moved and majorly changed the feel of the place, in a good way. The main dining area is probably about the same size as the former location but this one has a bigger waiting area, a nice outdoor seating area, an upstairs party room, and a bar area. It's definitely a more upscale restaurant than the other diners. When they first moved over it was a little rocky. Everything was slower than it used to be but they're back on top of things again. The service is back to normal, the new hostesses seem to have gotten the hang of things, and the wait time isn't as long as it used to be. However on a Friday or Saturday night it might still be extra busy. The food is as good as it always was. My usual dishes vary between eggplant parm, stuffed filet of sole with crabmeat, or eggs Benedict (w/o the meat). I've had many other things and it's always delicious. The salads are different combinations than what you normally see. The portions of everything are large so you will probably get two meals out of it at least - especially with the dinner specials. This is still my go to restaurant on Staten. I always leave happy, full, and with leftovers. read more

Food was good, but they brought my appetizer AFTER the main course (and blamed the fact that they were busy). I guess when a diner is busy, they forget what order the food is served. Supposedly, there is a very nice upstairs outdoor area, but couldn't check it out cause of a reserved private party. Same with the other half of the diner, looked a lot nicer than the room I was seated in, but again, reserved for a private party, so no clue. Most importantly, there was literally a SWARM of flies in the dining area (who knows how the kitchen was). Hostess said the fly problem just started yesterday, but a review on "whereyoueat.com" said there were flies each time the customer visited over the course of two weeks. The hostess said they cant set traps due to health code restrictions, so I guess the fly problem will be there for a while. It was gross, they were all over the light fixtures, the floor, the window ledge, and the tables. Oh, and for good measure, a fruit fly flew right into the vinegar bottle on my table. No joke. We told the hostess, but the bus boy already took the bottle back to the kitchen without knowing, so it's mixed with all the other bottles. Someone is going to have a little extra crunch in their salad. Gross. This is my first, and likely last review on yelp. Have eaten here a few times - really wanted to like this place so I waited before writing a review. Truthfully, after the first three times I don't think I would have returned but since different friends wanted to try it, I went back a few more times. Didn't like it any better than the first few times. The food is bland, the place could be cleaner & the service is just awful. My last visit was this past weekend - there were 4 of us there for dinner. The waiter brought out our orders & never returned to the table to see if we needed refills on drinks or additional napkins. When I finally was able to get his attention & requested additional napkins he told me "everyone has one". Yes, I know, we'd like a few more. He brought some to the table & promptly disappeared again. When we were finally able to get his attention to request the check he came to the table, dropped the check & picked up the remaining 2 napkins that we did not use! Is there a shortage? Perhaps there is also a shortage of coffee & iced tea because we never did get refills. Another thing - it was about 100 degrees in the restaurant. It was actually cooler outside. They should stick to being a diner because they have much to learn about being a caterer. Service for 25 people with one waiter, who was terrible even if he had 24 more people to help him. Food was subpar! Party for 25 scheduled way in advance set for 20 people in a basement setting that I doubt is even legal only one way out that i could see in an elevator? Horrible place First off I try to take my girlfriend to try this place out and the parking lot is so small and cramped, then as soon as we walked in we were both hit with the most repulsive odor and we put it off and went and got seated at the smallest two person table and my girlfriend is tiny and she looked cramped and then on the table next to us we saw easily over a dozen flies on the table next to us, I have no Idea how people eat here it shouldn't of even passed the food health inspection. Let me start by saying that my fiancé and I have been long time customers of Annadale Diner now Annadale Terrace. We loved it when it was in its old location. The food, the service and the overall experience was always A+. I'm sorry I can't say that now. If I could give this place zero stars I would. We ate here tonight and it was by far the worst dining experience I have ever had. We went in with a party of five and were told there would be a wait. Then they asked us if we wanted to sit at the bar and when we declined because we didn't want to sit there because it would be uncomfortable for my very pregnant sister the hostess replies in a very snotty tone "the chairs have backs to them, ya know!" Strike one. Then when they finally sit us, they sit us in a booth that was too small. So small that my father had to sit in a chair at the head of the table in the middle of a high traffic area. The waitress was very clueless and rude. She took our orders, messing every single one up numerous times while writing it down. We wait over 25 minutes for burgers and bacon grilled cheese as well as brown gravy. She comes over and brings out only 2 gravies and no food. We wait some more. When the food finally arrives it's cold and disgusting. Small portions and an order of French fries consists of 5 fries. She brings the other gravy boats and there was someone else's soggy fry laying in my gravy. That's plain disgusting. The waitress neglected our table. Not once coming by for drink refills or extra napkins or to even ask how our meal was. We needed water and after making eye contact with me three times she ignored it to stand by the counter flirting with a boy and laughing with the other tween waitresses. It was like a scene from a Disney sitcom but not even funny. I forgot to mention that there was no air conditioning on in the whole place and that they were sitting smaller parties at tables for bigger parties. I will never return to this place. It's really not wise to isolate your steady customers just to have a fancy looking place. Oh and management might want to do something about the parking lot. Food is average diner food, but the prices would make you think otherwise. I ordered online, and when I arrived I was told that ordering online was a "bad idea" because they apparently do not check those frequently. The girl practically laughed at me and told me they hadn't started the order yet. After waiting almost 40 minutes for a turkey burger, the girl gave it to me without apologizing at all or offering to make up for the inconvenience in any way. As someone who works at a restaurant, I thought that was pretty ridiculous. She had very little customer service skills, and after paying 20$ for a turkey burger I was pretty disappointed to see that the burger was rubbery and no cole slaw or even utensils were included in my bag. Overall, the food was okay but the prices and customer service made me give this place a 2-star rating. read more
