Seven days ago I would have remarked on our buying experience as wonderful. That was until we found out they our salesman pulled the wool over our eyes. We were there in 2011 and bought the "demo" Outback. They disclosed to us that it was in an accident where only the rear gate was damaged but provided us documentation that it was repaired. And it looked fine. Fast forward to 2019 and we were looking to trade in for a newer car. Turns out the Carfax had an airbag deployment listed! This was never disclosed to us, only the rear body damage. We didn't think we needed to fact check the same dealer that was selling one of their own cars. They flat out LIED to us and in the end it cost us getting a fair trade in value, virtually making this car worthless. Don't trust them, they lie and cheat to make a sale. read more

Last time I came here, the salesman we got was HORRIBLE. He was trying to play the "I don't care if you buy a car from us" act and well, he played it on the wrong people because we bought our special appearance outback at russell, from a saleswoman that used to work in Annapolis. He also said we wouldn't get a better deal anywhere else. Well, we did... so the joke is on him! After that rude encounter, I refused to go back to this dealership. However, my husband decided to get our car serviced here and since we were in the middle of buying a new car, he spoke to Frank White. Frank was sweet, understanding, right to the point, and had great customer service skills. We walked in with a number and he made it happen. None of the "we can't do this price but..." bullcrap. I bought my Outback from this dealership about two years ago after dealing with Wilkins. Let just say that the "family" feeling here is the first I've ever felt at a dealership. I brought my car back in for repairs and they kept it for three weeks until they figured out what was wrong with it. They let me bring the new Outback I was driving back bc it just made me miss mine more, I have the 3.6, and trade it for a new Ascent! Susan is one of the best "facilitators", ( which is what she calls herself and I think it is awesome). She has shown me every car I wanted to look at and she was the one that put in the Ascent for a loaner. I really liked it and so when I dropped it off to pick up my car, we talked for about an hour and a half and we went out to look at anything I wanted. She is so sweet and will do everything to put you in the car you want! It's not about her at all!! That's a lot more than I can say for some other dealerships! My husband and I were in the market for a Subaru Outback. We knew exactly what we wanted and we decided to go to Annapolis Subaru to get our new car. I had a check in hand ready to write and pull out with a new car. We pulled into the lot and the parking was minimal after driving around the very packed lot, we found a space. We walked to a new car on the lot and there were two employees and neither one helped us til I spoke up about needing assistance. We walked in the building and the nice receptionist said that someone would be on their way to help us. In the meantime we looked at a bike rack attachment for the car. While looking something fell off that someone had obviously just being laying on the rack. A sales manager, I'm assuming, comes out of his office and acted as if my husband and I had broke something and quickly pulled the kiosk away from us and is obviously upset. I look around and he runs back in his office with an attitude and throws his hands up and another member of management went in and started joking around. Meanwhile, we still stood there not being helped at all. Needless to say, I was very upset by this gentlemen actions and we decided to go to another dealer and purchase our new Subaru Touring 3.6R. This review is only for the service department. And, frankly, I don't wish to post it because I hate to complain. However, I was told to post this and so I am. I have a #Subaru, and I really like the car. Overall, the brand is pretty solid and the vehicles are respectable on the maintenance. Recently, I experienced a rather unpleasant event - I went out to start the car in the morning, and after a rough start, the Check Engine light stayed on (though it was not blinking). I stopped and restarted the car, same issue. I left the car running, popped the hood to check things (as I was hearing an odd noise in the cabin), and some sort of fan was running quite furiously - definitely not normal. I immediately stopped the car, taking the key out of the ignition - but the fan noise continued unabated. Definitely odd for a cold Winter's day. A tow to my mechanic's shop, and long story short, a relay had caused an emissions-related pump to a) continuously operate when it shouldn't have, and b) burn out said pump. The pump had, at some point, at least 20 minutes from the time I removed the keys, ceased operating prior to my contacting a tow. Coincidentally, a letter had arrived immediately after this incident, that recalled the very relay that had failed - citing the relay would fail in a manner to cause that pump to run continuously, which could cause an overheat condition, which could start an engine-bay fire. Thankfully no fire in my case. As my mechanic was loathe to do the warranty work, I contacted Annapolis Subaru. A few days later the car was properly diagnosed, and a week after that (February 1st), the relay and pump were replaced and the engine codes reset. Later that same evening, I started the car, and the lights came back on again with a similar symptom as before. Crap, I thought. So I asked my neighbor (an independent mechanic) to bring his Snap-On reader home so we could check the engine codes. No-go on the read, which was rather disconcerting. We could talk to other systems in the car, but not the engine or transmission systems - quite strange and my suspicion level went up a little. [NOTE: We later found out that particular reader just can't connect to that part of my car (verified by another reader).] I contacted the dealer service (I figured it was a related matter to the repair), and set up the next service - February 8th. On the way to the dealer, the Check Engine lights went off - the problem had corrected itself. However, I felt it best to at least find out what the code(s) was(were), so had it checked. Service told me the problem related to two valves having to do with the replaced air pump, and wanted $1500 to fix it (remove & replace said valves as they were supposedly stuck in the wrong position). I didn't have $1500, and, in hindsight, glad I didn't. So I asked them to put the car back together and proceeded to drive to my mechanic for a second opinion. My intuition was telling me that something "just wasn't right." In parting, Service, in part of the conversation, stated "I wouldn't want you to get stuck by the side of the road." I was also informed that the two valves, if not replaced, would lead to mileage issues and engine damage. Well, on the way to my mechanics', at the highway exit, the car suddenly lost performance - the engine began to shudder and the check engine light started to flash (that's definitely not good). I limped the couple miles to the shop and dropped the car off for examination - letting the mechanic know the full saga-to-date. I was called later - the only problem was that the ignition coil pack had fallen off the #4 cylinder. No other codes (no failed valves). Now, I do some work on my cars, and I know from changing spark plugs, etc., that those wires/coil pack don't just fall off - they are ON there. Suspicious! I queried the mechanic as to any way it could have happened, and, the only conclusion we could come to is that there's no logical reason for that to have happened. Is it possible that the dealer, in the process of diagnosing the second issue, could have somehow removed the component, and then not put it back on properly, or, just plain fallen off? Sure. But very unlikely in my opinion, given the location of the area in which the diagnosis was taking place. However, I am not familiar enough with certain procedures on that car to say for certain whether removing that coil pack is part of any procedure related to that diagnostic. Unfortunately, there's no evidence of foul play by the dealer's mechanic here, so I can't fully say they "did me wrong." But, my suspicions have been raised, and my confidence in them has disappeared. I also didn't like the "bait" lines used to attempt to nab the service business. read more

4th Generation Legacy GT's are surprisingly difficult to come by, and when they are found they're typically gone before you get to see them! I just picked up a 2009 model from Annapolis Subaru and am absolutely in love with the car. Dani, who helped me secure the vehicle despite my living in VA, was beyond helpful! I drove to Annapolis to buy a used 2011 Camaro. The car looked great on their website. I spoke to a salesman named Wayne. I asked him to take pictures of any damage or marks on the outside. I said there was nothing to note I made the drive and was not greeted by anyone. I had to go inside and look for Wayne. I was told he was doing something else and would be right with me. My daughter and I found the car and took a look. Still no Wayne. I had to go back inside and ask for a key. I looked the car over and found several things I should have been told about. I start an inspection noted other things wrong. I asked if I could drive it. It drove ok. It was getting dark, Saturday night. I presented my listed not completely finished. Everything from damaged wheels to part of hood decals missing. It total over $3000. I knew I would not get it but you have to ask. The asking price $2300.00 I was given a $1500 reduction. I was told that was all there was. Now it was getting close to closing time. I was going to leave. I wanted the car and they said they would give me $250 off. I agreed to buy. Well I was rushed thru the paperwork and with a handshake I was put out the door. My daughter and I were standing in the parking lot with the guy who washed the car. He help me figure out the lights and other things. I received more help from him than anybody else. That was the beginning when I came back home. I found three chips in the windshield and there was body damage under the drivers door. I called several times and got to speak to Billy. He listened and told me he had to speak to Mike. He would call me back asap. Well I have not received any call. With the cracks in the windshield it will not pass any state inspection. I have quote of $510 to replace the windshield. The body damage I haven't even worked on it. I just want to get my car inspected. SO BUYER BEWARE THESE GUYS DIDNT TREAT ME AS A CUSTOMER. BUT AS A SUCKER FROM VIRGINIA WANTING A CAR.... read more

So yesterday we went to check out the 2017 Subaru Forester after having great reviews on consumer report this year. We talked to the front desk rep a really nice lady and she told us the next sales rep was finishing up with a customer and that we will be next. After spending 10 minutes looking at the floor model a sales rep approached us talk to us about the car features for another 10 minutes then he said "I will get a car ready for you to test drive". This is when our experience took a turn. We waited 5...10...15...20 minutes then my wife asked me "where did this guy go" so we ask the nice lady at the front desk to get us a brochure of the car we were interested in, after going thru the brochure and have the sales rep nowhere to be found we proceeded to go home . As we were getting in our car we noticed that the same sales rep we were waiting for was already giving customer that came AFTER us a test drive. Which means that he completely ditched us while we were waiting . I don't know about you guys, to me this is really bad customer service . A worthy mention was that we were the only people at the dealership since it was a Wednesday night, no other salesman approached us to ask us if we were ok . For a company that takes pride on customer service it leaves a lot to be desired . Because of this now they lost a potential customer and we will be taking our money to the Honda dealer down the street where they treated us like kings when we bought last car 3 years ago and be willing to spend a good amount of money on a 2017 pilot . read more

DO NOT buy used cars from Subaru from Annapolis! Terrible sneaky people sold us a car that one month later the transmission had to be replaced and 1,300$ of engine work. They sold us the car knowing these problems, yet when we asked why the check engine light was on they lied to our face and told us if the gas cap wasn't tight that's what it was. They quick fixed all the problems so the car drove fine for a couple weeks then just started to fall apart. Of course the engine parts aren't covered in the warranty and they don't want to pay for it to be fixed. Terrible sneaky sales people. Watch out guys. You know something's wrong with the car when they can't look you in the eye and they sweat like crazy in the winter. So watch out I don't want this to happen to anyone else. read more

Beware Annapolis Subaru, part of the Annapolis Subaru/Hyundai/Volvo & Bowie Subaru chain of dealerships. In early June of 2016, my driver's side secondary air valve failed in my 2008 Subaru WRX STI. I contacted Annapolis Subaru over the phone for an estimate to make the repair. I was told with parts and labor, it would $950 to replace both valves. I researched the work required to replace the driver's side valve and the cost of an aftermarket part. The part only cost $150 vs $250-$300 for the genuine Subaru part. I ordered the valve and replaced it myself without issue. Four days later, the passenger side valve failed as well. I again called Annapolis Subaru for an estimate for the labor. I was told on the phone it would be $350. I then researched the work required to replace this valve and decided that the job would be too tough for me to perform. All instructions that I was able to find indicated the intake manifold had to be removed in order to get to the valve's bolts. The following morning I scheduled an appointment via Annapolis Subaru's online scheduling tool. Within 2 hours I received an email from the Service manager, Doug. The emailed stated that the job would cost $550 if I provided the valve. We exchanged emails because I was blown away that the cost went from $350 to $550 once they knew I would be supplying my own valve. During the course of the exchange Doug stated that the manifold had to be removed. I never questioned this, but he stated it anyways. Eventually, I agreed to pay $470 for the labor and shop parts because I was trying to sell the car in short order and this dealership was the most convenient for me, plus I had been using them for several years for maintenance. We also purchased my wife's car at the sister Annapolis Hyundai dealership a couple years ago. I dropped the car off June 15th, 2016 and picked it up in the afternoon of June 16th. I also had the dealership appraise the car prior to leaving. While driving home I noticed that the car wasn't performing the way it was the previous day when I dropped it off. Long story short, the dealer refuses to acknowlegde anything is wrong with the car. The service manager most likley lied to me about the intake manifold being removed. The core of the issue here is whether or not the dealer removed the intake manifold. If they did and lied to me, I have no way of knowing whether the seals were replaced as manufacturer dictates. I don't know what effects this could have for the engine down the road. If they didn't remove the intake, they charged me 3.5 hours of labor for a job they didn't perform. All of this is then wrapped around the fact the car does not run as I expect it to. Either gross negligence occurred, or fraud. read more

We called and asked if a Z3 was still available to look at. The salesperson said it was. We asked if they could hold it because we were 1 1/2 hrs away, but we wanted to look at it. At first he said he couldn't, but then we pressed him to talk to the manager and he came back and said he would. We drove the 1 1/2 hrs and 5 min before we get there, he calls and said they made a mistake and the car was sold. We still went there (upset) to find out what the deal was. They said they thought it was a 2014 BMW sale but it was really the Z3 that sold. Seriously...they're not even close. What kind of dealership doesn't know what car they sold? We won't go back and hope you don't waste your time/gas going to them either. read more

This was an awful experience. After emailing with the salesperson for 2 weeks, we made arrangements for the car that we wanted. He gave us a pretty good price on the car and we agreed to it. I was shopping around other dealerships and told him that we were offered X amount for our trade in and asked if they were willing to beat it or at least match it if we came in. He said they had no problems beating or matching the trade in offer, as long as we had a written offer from the other dealership. I wanted to make sure of this, since we were driving over 50 miles out of our way to do business with Annapolis Subaru. So far from email, it seems like it would be a straightforward deal for the car - quick in and out. Unfortunately, FAIL. We came in to meet our salesperson, Brian, and did a test drive of the car while they appraised our trade in. 1) The car that they got for us, already had over 100 miles on it. When I asked, shocked why it had so many miles on it, he blew it off saying that it was because they had to get the car from another dealership. I did not realize it would have that many miles on it 2) The car that they got us, had significant scratches on one of the tire rims. If i'm paying good money for a brand new car, I expect the car to be brand new, not with wear and tear already on it. The dealership had the car for 3 days before we went in to "pick it up" but they wait for us to get there, before revealing the scratches. 3) The salesperson said that "oh, we have a guy that can polish it up and repaint it and it'll look like new." However, he said they can't do it the same day, meaning we have to make another 100+ mile trip to get our "new" car fixed up. Very very inconvenient for us. And again, why couldn't they have done this before we came in? 4) And the kicker, they came in $1000 under the trade in offer that we brought in writing -- something that they said they would be able to beat or match. When I said, that's much lower than the trade in offer we previously got and he gave the schpill about "this is the best we can do." When we told them if they couldn't match the offer, we would have to leave. He came back and upped it, but still did not match the offer. I felt like they were taking advantage of the fact that we drove so far and thought that they could pull a quick one on us to close the deal. I felt the salesperson was dishonest and never intended to match our trade in offer, as negotiated over email, and just wanted to get us in the door. We left, obviously, since it wasn't the original deal we had agreed to. Thanks for wasting our time Annapolis Subaru. Definitely not a good experience for us, and would not recommend this dealership. read more

Lets not forget Chris Kelly who started the process off. I was in the market (was) for a brand new Subaru BRZ Limited. If anyone has looked for these cars, the numbers are few and most dealers will mark them UP way over the MSRP and won't even bother to negotiate. Well, let me tell you my story. I was looking everywhere for this car, all over the US in fact. I found one across the country and I was preparing to fly over there (somewhere very COLD) to purchase. And for some reason my luck was strong that day, Chris Kelly contacted me and said they (Annapolis Subaru) had the exact one I wanted on order. I was very cautious at first because I've been burned by others one too many times, either the car was sold before I even got to the car lot to take a look or the price was ridiculous and the NO other dealer was willing to negotiate, not even a bit. Everyone likes to feel like they've got the best deal, that's what makes the car you purchase even more special to you and you feel the happiness of the money saved for much longer than the Initial euphoria of actually getting the car you wanted. So when I got the offer from Chris, I countered him with the price I arrived at by calculating my costs for the trip across the country to get BRZ with the added shipping costs. It took Chris exactly 5mins to respond. He accepted and 35mins later I was at the dealership. That's when I met Frank White for the first time. Very friendly, knowledgeable and patient man who answered all the questions I had. This was very refreshing after all the headaches I had to go through with other dealers in the area (see my other review). I immediately put my deposit down. I was told that it would take 3 weeks for my new car to arrive via ship from Japan. It took less than 2! I was pleasantly surprised by Frank's Email a few days later saying it had arrived. I went over the dealership the next day. That's when I met Joe (Tyler). Joe and I had a lot in common, from cars we've owned in the past down to our wives who were both German! He made my paperwork filing time fly while we were conversing. Before I knew it I was done with all the paperwork and was driving my Brand New BRZ home! It was simply a pleasure! I don't know how many of you can say that about the process of buying a car but I was impressed! You might even think by this glowing review that I actually work for Annapolis Subaru =) I leave that to the consummate pros like Frank, Joe and Chris. When I got the survey in the mail the manager called to see what the problem was and his response was that doesn't sound like our staff we don't train them like that. My old 97 Toyota Camry died last week and I was in the market for a new car. I had a low budget but high standards for a certified pre-owned. Andre from sales answered all my questions via phone, email and in person. He had all the answers about my car's history and was very patient as I weighed my options and negotiated prices. After I decided on a car, I was taken to the sales manager, Billy Sadtler. I absolutely recommend specifically asking for Billy if possible. He went through every option of pricing and provided extensive information about subarus warranty protection plan. Like Andre, he answered all my questions and was extremely patient as he would me through the total price. Both Andre and Billy were very trustworthy and NOT sneaky sales men- they helped me save as much money as possible, which I greatly appreciated since I'm on a tight budget. 10/10.
