Annie's is an Albuquerque staple. I don't think I've ever had a bad meal there. The service is usually pretty darn good also. I must say the last time I went I asked what ingredients are in the egg salad, tuna salad, and chicken salad because I have food allergies. The server said, "Oh they don't tell us. All the recipes are secret." Ok well I sort of get that but sort of don't having allergies. So beware if you do too! I decided to take my chances and order the Three Salad meal. This comes with three scoops of salad; one of egg salad, one of tuna, and one of chicken salad. It's served with tomatoes. The salads were very tasty! Unfortunately there was something that was undetectable in the chicken salad and I felt too weird to eat something I couldn't place so I threw that salad away. I asked for crackers for my salads but they didn't have any. Booooooo. I also ordered a warm blueberry muffin and it was scrumptious!! My mom got an egg salad sandwich with a cup of French Onion soup which she said was delicious. This place is decorated the exact same way as it was in the 80s when I was a child, so it's fun to go with my mom. It's ver nostalgic. However, I won't go on my own or suggest it to friends now. Walking into Annie's soup kitchen is like taking a step back in time. You're greeted by staff that makes you feel like you dropped by your best friend's grandma's house. The food is what you expect - no one makes it better than grandma. We had the roast beef sandwich ( today's special) and French onion soup ( one of their specialties). So good!!! For the first time in a long time, we were too focused on eating to have a conversation until we finished our food. The atmosphere is relaxed and you don't feel rushed. The staff seem to know everyone that walks thru the door, and, if they don't, they make sure you feel welcome and will want to come back soon. read more

Finally made it here during open hours since I don't often dine early in the day. So, it's a honest modest little shop with maybe 12 tables for 4. Clientele is mostly seniors. The decors is throwback-1970's Amish-kitschy and could use a modest update. Still it's like having a meal at grandma's place which is not all bad. Wait to get seated and then be handed 3 menus. The first is a list of the daily specials - thank you! The other two are the standard menus for lunch and breakfast. I opted for lunch. The daily menu includes a casserole dish and quiche plus soups of the day. I ordered a full sandwich and full soup combo for $14.50. The soup arrived and was cold so I asked for it to be heated and it was returned very quickly. The soup came with 2 slices of thick bread and since I could not eat it - I asked for a to-go container (a waste in my mind). I hate throwing away food - I would have preferred a few croutons and not bread. The sandwich arrived on a second plate with some potato chips. Service was quick and efficient. Got a refill of water without asking and my check too. Getting to line to pay was a bit of a slow process. I had cash and only needed a few coins back but had to wait anyway. I would certainly stop in again. It's moderate in price and quality seems good. If you just need a bite to eat and have no expectations that the food will be great then by all means stop in. read more

Now, this place is a unique spot, in saying that, the food is the main point of the Annie's. It's a simple place (small menu) that's affordable, reliable and afferent to an era that is almost non-existent anymore. Yes, there are MANY members of varying generations that come here. How " younger generations" (and some of the other reviewers for Annie's) deterred by that?I don't understand. No there's no music Or TVs But that isn't needed at Annie's! Staff seem like they're happy and the flow here is steady even when it's busy. Easy to have conversations or just have a decent affordable meal out. Great FRENCH ONION SOUP! Annie's has been serving homestyle food successfully for decades. It seems like the wait staff has been there all this time, too. Everyone is very friendly.  There are no fancy tablecloths or placemats; a simple white dish towel serves that purpose. With many meals, a side of zucchini nut bread is served. Delicious! Tastes like dessert! My companion swears by their omelets--and the bite I took sold me! My turkey sandwich was on soft bread, fresh vegetables, and quality turkey. As a first-time diner, I really wanted to try the biscuits and gravy--this restaurant screams grandma's biscuits and gravy.  On this note, however, I was disappointed. The gravy was fairly bland. I added pepper, which helped, but didn't really fix it. I ended up eating half a biscuit and abandoning the dish. read more

I'm torn between 3 and 4 stars here. I'm going to be generous and go with 4 for a few reasons. 1) The service was great! 2) It's a small and what seems to be family operated joint! 3) It reminded me of eating at my grandmas house!! I ordered the special which was Eggs benny, and chose their potatoe's for my side. The eggs for the benny were cooked to absolute perfection! The Hollondaise was the perfect consistency though seemed to lack a bit of flavor. I do like mine more on the lemony side personally so that could just be me. The potatoes were a let down. Slightly overcooked, not well seasoned and just bleh. Glad I didn't order the Gonzo, which I was torn between. The better half got the Blue berry pancakes. They were fine, but nothing special. I can make them as good at home IMO. Price was fair though, so not complaining, just being factual. Overall the price on everything was very fair. The service, and aura were both great as well. The food was not bad, but it wasn't something I'm running back for either. read more

The owner is rude, don't patronize this place. We wanted to go to a locally owned place to eat. My wife and I had a sandwich and soup. My son wanted food from a different restaurant, and brought it in to eat. We are virtually finished with our meal when a grumpy old man, who I assumed was the owner, told us to never bring outside food into his restaurant again. He was not kind in the least. He was trying to embarrass us in front of the other customers to make a point. That's fine if that's their policy. We totally understand that this is his establishment and he makes the rules. Our problem with him was his rudeness. And the rudeness of his staff as well. The cashier was extremely rude to my wife too. Note to whoever works there or owns this place: Kindness goes a long way. Maybe signage would help too. We were told that "no restaurant allows you to bring in outside food." l Which is absolutely untrue because we do it all the time. We left no tip. All that to say, the food was mediocre to poor at best. so there's really no reason to return to this place. Hope they learn from this. We are definitely fans of this little gem. We weren't quite certain what to expect from the name and the very humble and hidden entrance. What we found just the other side of the doors was a charmingly old-fashioned restaurant space complete with pink tablecloths, floral carpets, and lovingly hand-painted art on the walls. It was such a homey space that in all honesty, the dining room reminded me less of being in a restaurant and more of suppers at the homes of my aunts or grandmothers when I was little. The atmosphere of homeyness was continued by the lovely server who used endearments like "sweetie" and "hon" rather than the colder and more formal "ma'am" or "sir" that I've become used to in dining. I'm not sure how we managed it, but Raz had The Gonzo, I had French Onion Soup, and we split a half-order of Blackberry Crepes for dessert. It was a pretty awesome brunch, but the definite star of the meal was dessert. The blackberry compote was sweet and tart and bursting with flavor, while the sweetened cream cheese inside was just plain decadent. We would love to come back and try more of the menu, though that can be difficult for a dedicated night-owl like me since it's on the other side of town and closes by 2 pm. read more

Nothing better on a Saturday morning to come in for a nice breakfast. I started off with their signature zucchini bread, always made to perfection. Sweet, hot, and moist but not too spongy in consistency. I was seated by the window, ordered a bacon and avocado omelet. Easy cheese, easy green chile. Plenty of bacon and avocado inside, it actually appeared as if they had cut open a fresh one and then made the omelet. The avocado was still cool, the eggs were fluffy and tasty. So when you drive all the way to the other end of town and find yourself in a small strip mall of sorts, you will find a small place called Annie's Soup Kitchen. Upon entering you will feel like you have arrived in a whole different place (out of New Mexico) dare I say maybe you took a blast to the past. The decor is definitely vintage, and the Sunday crowd is a pleasant group of elderly people with a few baby boomers here and there. The staff is great. The owners are super friendly. You just get a whole different feel. The green chile soup is top notch for sure! The zucchini bread is so super delicious and tasty. I could pretty much eat that stuff all day! It is so moist and fresh... I could honestly go for a piece as I write this review! The quiche is also quite tasty! I tried the green chile and ham and I was pleasantly surprised and throughly enjoyed it! The place is unique by all means! I enjoy Annie's Soup Kitchen when I'm in the area (which is often, as I frequent their neighbor, SW Craft Connection). I've tried breakfast here - the Gonzo is amazing and the chile is not too spicy. For lunch, I like the chicken salad sandwich. I didn't think I'd like it as it comes with apple chunks, but somehow that works and it tastes delicious. Throughout the pandemic I've been making a concerted effort to support locally owned and operated businesses. To that end, today we went to Annie's Soup Kitchen for breakfast (a long time favorite of mine). Everything was going great until we heard and observed Martin, the owner, bragging about a cool new "All Lives Splatter" shirt he just got, while chatting with some regulars at the table next to us. I came here with my mom hoping for soup on such a cold day. Since the name has "soup Kitchen" in it I thought there would be many varieties of soup to choose from. I was very wrong! There were only three soups to choose from and the one I wanted, the Split Pea soup...wasn't even available!! In fact, only one soup was available this particular day! What kind of a soup kitchen is this I thought! I instead ended up getting eggs and potatoes, a breakfast meals. My mom who had also wanted soup, ended up getting grilled cheese. Bottom line first: GREAT!!! coffee & decent food at a good value point price. I would gladly eat at Annie's again. I had a half-order of biscuit & gravy (single biscuit) with a cup of coffee for breakfast. The serving size of the b&g was okay, being served in an oval ceramic trencher about 6-7" long. The biscuit was rather dense, which made the half-order a sufficient morning meal for me (a rather light eater) and there was a very generous pool of gravy poured over it. The gravy was pretty ordinary. Its texture was fine but the flavor was rather flat, lacking the usual spicing with generous amounts of black pepper or infusion of flavor from the sausage. The other downside to the gravy was that there was very little sausage in it, almost none at all. The price was in line with a single biscuit order & reasonable considering the quality of the food. So I would give the b&g 2.5 or 3 stars out of 5. The coffee, on the other hand, was AMAZING!!! Easily the best cup of non-pinyon coffee I've had in ages. The rich roasty flavor was right off the scale. Just plain excellent! It was crazy good. I asked the staff what brand it was & they showed me the bag. It was Cain's coffee, distributed by Farmer Bros. I highly recommend it. The two waitresses were exceptionally friendly & responsive to the half dozen or so customers having their mid-morning breakfast when I was there. I have been going to Annie's Soup Kitchen since I was a toddler. I grew up eating their Blackberry Crepes and smothered breakfast burritos. I met a friend here for breakfast. Staff was friendly and helpful. The food was very good. I particularly liked that when offered a bread choice I learned that one was homemade. Their zucchini bread is homemade as well and quite good. I had eggs, hashbrowns and toast. My friend got the quiche, which she said was good but she had to not think of it as quiche as it wasn't what she was accustomed to. I think she may be used to processed freezer quiche that many places cook up instead of something fresh. I'm sure this place will be in our mix of places to go when we get together. read more

Cute neighborhood cafe! It's located in a upscale "hidden" shopping center. It's a sweet little place. They have sandwiches and soups and much more. Their clientele is more of the older generation. Not sure if I've ever seen anyone under the age of 30. It's s clean and tidy place with older decor. Makes you feel like your at your grandmas house. Cozy and comfortable. Couldn't think of a place that has great New Mexican food in our neighborhood, so we went for a drive... And stumbled across Annie's. My beautiful date was apprehensive of a place with soup in the name, as she says she doesn't like soup (pretty sure that is not true). In we walk, and her apprehension grows. Old flower pattern carpet meets old flower pattern wallpaper. Nothing has changed in the 43 years since it has opened of this I am sure. Two young tattooed lesbians who have yet to get ready for our day are graciously sat at a pink table cloth covered table amongst people our grandparent's age. And we couldn't have felt more welcomed. It was about 10:47, breakfast had to be put in immediately as lunch was about to start, but we couldn't order lunch til 11. She orders the spinach, bacon, mushroom quiche with a blackberry muffin...and the fun begins! It was delicious! Best quiche I have ever had. When the time is appropriate I order a hot open faced turkey sandwich on Texas toast with swiss cheese, avocado and smothered in green chile with a cup of french onion soup. IT WAS SO FREAKIN GOOD! Huge slices of perfectly toasted bread topped with mountains of turkey and cheese. Extremely mild but very tasty green chile sauce and about half of an avocado. We nearly licked the plate. The soup was also divine. Although I was shocked at the price of 5.75 for a cup, it was well worth it. We will be back very soon with our little one in tow. She will love all the French toast and pancakes on the menu. read more
