What a treat! I wish I'd learned about Metro Subs years ago. A literal mom-and-pop (daughter made my sandwich), just the kind one likes to support. So, I was feeling like a sandwich and decided to try this little place in the Heights. Lots of parking, SUPER clean, welcoming, small but with good seating for pairs (inside and out) and great tunes playing (an eclectic and upbeat playlist - I liked every song during my visit, but several were new to me). An impressive menu (I've put up two shots of the menu board so as to help with any reflection issues) and just the nicest folks working. You know - immediately attentive and friendly, but then leaving you alone while you enjoy your food . . . asking to make sure everything's okay, but giving you your space. But you're here for the food, right? Well, it's quite reasonably priced and generously portioned. My hot pastrami was the California sort (not the fatty NYC sort of my childhood) and it came fairly loaded with juicy meat and just the perfect amount of the dressing I'd requested as well as an ideal amount of cheese. On an ethereally soft, fresh roll - ah, this today was the best sandwich roll I've had so far this year. Just a masterpiece. The sandwich (served with a bag of chips) was delicious and the price of the cold soda (a buck?!) was kind of amazing these days. They had really good looking brownies on the counter for $2, but I resisted. Kinda regretting that now that I'm back home remembering them. Ah well, I'll have to return soon! read more

We were having a late lunch and looking for something light so we searched out sandwich/salad/soup options. Coming from a hike in Sandia foothills, this was on the way back to our hotel. I like finding local options and this one was DELICIOUS! Husband's sub was full of fresh ingredients and huge (and he got the smaller version). I chose the Greek salad. Tons of toppings - feta, green peppers, red onion, olives, tomatoes, and cucumbers. Yes, there was some lettuce in there too. If you like dressing, they are generous with 3 togo containers. (I only needed half of one.) I asked if they had a pita or baguette to go with it and they gave me 4 slices of the fresh sandwich bread. Very nice. So glad we found this stop. Fantastic sandwich spot super close to my house, definitely a new go-to for lunch. I came during late lunch hours and ordered the Philly with a twist and it was really good. The sandwiches were made right there (including frying up the meat) and they were quick. Certainly my highest recommendation for a sandwich place, with pardons begged to the wonderful owners for only 4-stars, because I do not give any 5 (or 1) star reviews. That's just my style, and I'll never stray from it. Regardless, they make flat-out delicious grinders. We caught them towards the end of their day, and they happily made our din-din, and the banter we had with the whole family made us feel like we've known them for years. My Hot Pastrami was peppery-buttery goodness, and I really like the way he chopped up the protein on the griddle top. I was lucky to get a pic of my Buddy's Italian grinder, because he had it down in record time. Man, the fresh vegs you get on your sams are just as if you picked them from your garden. We both got their Potato Soup in our combos, and it was textbook for understanding that simple prep is the way to go. What attracted me to this spot was the AMAZING reviews from others! I stopped in one day for lunch and everything looked delicious so I asked the owners what they recommended. I ended up getting a Philly cheesesteak sandwich and a side of green chile stew and wow! They use fresh ingredients making the quality and taste of the food delicious! I ate there, and while I was eating, several other customers came in and I could tell they were regular customers and the rapport everyone had with the owners really showed me that this place really is a local gem. read more

I've been back to get my Metro Sub fix at least a dozen times since my original review. This shop is highly addictive. So far I've stuck with the cold sandwiches but on my next visit I'll be going for a Philly and maybe some soup. The family that owns this establishment are very kind and caring. Just stumbled upon this hidden gem! We were wanting some hot sandwiches so we ordered the philly, and when I saw they had Persian salad sandwiches I could not resist! The Persian salad sandwich was amazing! Just like Mommon makes it! I forgot how much I have missed that stuff! The pickles in it definitely make it! The bread it comes on is great as well! The Philly was also incredible. Perfectly seasoned and I would recommend getting with the chipotle mayo! Gives it a perfect little kick! Wow, very happy! I had heard from a few people that I needed to try this place. It's not marked very well, shoved into the corner of an old strip mall next to a Korean Grocer. Inside is not flashy but it was very clean. Everyone behind the counter was family, that's a good sign. I ordered the Ruben and loved it. I intended to eat half (it was big) and save the rest for tomorrow. That plan fell apart... They have some Persian dishes sprinkled throughout the menu, and was told Thursday's the grandmas cooks a few traditional dishes. I'm going to apologize now, I never have any pictures of this wonderful family run place because even with a sensitive stomach from either anxiety (especially right now) or maybe a gallbladder issue, when I know I want to finally eat, their food is comforting and extremely GOOD!! I used to split my sandwich with my big sister but now I have to get her HER OWN!!! Especially if my nerves and stomach will let me eat! Bella is really cool and the whole family for that matter! Maybe one day I'll get in a picture but it's doubtful. I recently when through another rough bout of anxiety and by the time I got my sandwich I was so hungry... that was a wrap on that sub sandwich. This is a gem hidden in plain sight! In a tiny strip mall tucked in the corner next to the Korean market is our new favorite sandwich shop. The place itself was clean and cheerful. My husband and I went in on a Thursday afternoon to give this place a try. He ordered the Burque Turkey with chipotle mayo, no tomatoes or avocado. The turkey was piled high, the green lettuce was fresh and crisp, and the green chile had just the right amount of spice to it. I ordered the Philly and I chose chipotle mayo as well. It comes with the sliced beef, onions, green bell peppers, mushrooms, and provolone. The steak was still juicy, the onions and peppers were sautéed just right so they weren't slimy but also weren't too raw. The cheese was perfectly melted through the whole sandwich and not just clumped up in the middle. Our sandwiches came out hot and everything was cooked fresh. We chose the meal which came with a side salad (choice of regular or Greek salad, or their version of chicken salad) or soup, chips, and a can of soda. I got the 10 inch sandwich and my meal was $10.29. My sandwich was enormous! It was full of meat and veggies, a perfect balance in every bite. The Greek salad was really fresh and crisp. The dressing was perfectly balanced with a little tang , but not too vinegary. There was just the right amount of fresh green lettuce (not iceberg), thinly sliced English cucumber, thinly sliced black olives, tomato, and feta cheese. Each bite had just the right amount of each component. We got a giant brownie to share for dessert that only cost us $1! My husband and I were 100% satisfied with our lunch and can't wait to go back for more. read more

Their Ruben is amazing even though they are most famous for their philly cheese steak. They are Keto friendly- with lettuce wraps worthy of a special trip. It's hard though because their bread is so good. Everything is made by hand, by family that want to feed the world and make it a happy place. Ok, we happened to stumble on this place by pure chance in an internet search for sandwiches in abq. I scanned the menu online and we decided to give it a shot. Everything was delicious!! I got the Persian chicken potato salad sandwich and it was AMAZING. My boyfriend got the philly cheese sandwich and devoured the entire ten Inch sub. I enjoyed the salad as my side and he tried the potato soup and they were both the perfect addition to our meal. We loved that we got a good amount of food for a very good price. In addition, this is obviously a family owned establishment so the service is off the charts. We will definitely be back to try the Greek salad and the meatball sub.
