I really wanted to like this place, but it fell short for me. The ice cream flavors themselves were unique and different from the typical options you find elsewhere, which was probably the highlight of the visit. Unfortunately, the rest of the experience was disappointing. There was very limited selection, especially when it came to toppings and customization. The presentation looked good, but the portions and overall offering didn't match the hype. Overall, while the ice cream had some interesting flavors, I wasn't impressed enough to come back. There are other ice cream shops with better variety, toppings, and overall value.
Nestled in a small shopping complex on Convoy, Sunday Ice Cream is an everyday splurge! Vietnamese Coffee and Black Sesame took me to my happy spot and was delicious and refreshing. Ice cream texture is smooth with the right amount of sweet! Not much! Service was nice and friendly. Ambiance is clean.
Sunday Ice Cream deserves a solid 5 stars for their unique ice cream flavors. I stopped in after having dinner at Friend's House a few doors down. Anyone dining in at Friend's House gets 10% off their purchase at Sunday Ice Cream so, of course, we didn't want to pass up that deal lol. There were a lot of people waiting in line but it moved fast. This small ice cream shop also has a couple tables inside and extra seating outside. They have Single, Single-Split, and Double Scoop available. I chose a Single-Split of two flavors: Jolly Pong (Korean cereal and milk) and Kumquat Lemon Sorbet. Both were delicious. Overall, I really enjoyed the creamy Jolly Pong and refreshing Kumquat Lemon Sorbet. I hope to be back to try their other flavors.

I also like the waffle chip when you order in a cup Thai Tea: The Thai tea flavor had a bold, strong tea taste that really stood out. It was rich without being overpowering and is nice if you enjoy classic Thai tea. Milo - The Milo flavor is for chocolate lovers. It has a deep, malty chocolate flavor. Jasmine Milk Tea - The jasmine milk tea was floral/fragrant tasting, creamy, and sweeter than the boricha (another tea flavor). It still had a noticeable tea flavor, but the sweetness was also pretty present Boricha - The boricha was rich, earthy, and full of roasted barley flavor. It is less sweet than the jasmine milk tea and is perfect for people who enjoy stronger, slightly bitter tea flavors. My favorite order was the two-scoop combination with the jasmine milk tea and boricha. Since they are both tea flavors, they complemented each other really well. The jasmine milk tea added a sweeter, creamier contrast while the boricha brought a deeper, roasted tea flavor. Together, they created a balanced combination that I would definitely order again. SERVICE: One thing I also appreciated was that they let you taste-test flavors before deciding, making it easy to find your favorite. The service was fast, simple, and straightforward. Ordering easy. AMBIANCE: Sunday Ice Cream is a small, cute shop with a cozy feel. Seating is limited, but it never felt like an issue because people are constantly coming and going. Some customers grab their ice cream and enjoy it outside, while others chill inside. It has a casual cute atmosphere.
Rich and excellent flavors! I enjoyed my split scoop of Vietnamese coffee and Ube. All flavors are full dairy, except for the sorbet, of which there was only one today. Very kind and helpful staff, and I was able to try multiple flavors as it was my first time. Indoor seating available good for small groups. Overall, pricier than expected but would come back if I'm craving something cool and sweet.
Great, interesting ice cream at very reasonable prices. Almost everything was something we wanted to sample. The sheer amount of tea infused/flavored ice creams was nothing short of amazing. We ended up deciding on the Thai tea, strawberry milk, boricha (toasted barley), and kumquat lemon sherbert. At $4.50 for a kids scoop (still generous in size) and $5.25 for a regular, you can't beat the prices. Free self serve sprinkles, tajin, and sweetened condensed milk at then end as well. This will be our new go to ice cream spot in the area.

There was still the staple flavors like pandan and matcha, but this time around I tried their Lemon Loquat (I think that was the flavor?) Maybe it was kumquat, but either way it was a citrus, dairy-free sherbet. I liked that it wasn't too icy and hard in comparison to their POG before, and I also like the fact you can get a baby size. After check out they're also the option to add sprinkles, condensed milk, and I even saw tajin this time around! Highly recommend coming here for the Asian flavored ice cream!
Okay listen. Life is good. Especially when you randomly get ice-cream on a weekday. Obsessed with life. Anyway there were so many of my favorite flavors like Thai tea, sesame, matcha, all the things. I ordered the sesame and matcha double scoop in a waffle cone. I finished EVERY LAST BITE. DO YOU HEAR ME?! THE SESAME WAS MY FAVORITE. THE MATCHA WAS PRETTY STRONG. STILL THERE..MENTALLY. My husband ordered the Vietnamese coffee flavor one scoop in a cone. He loved it. I swear there are so many good places to eat and drink at the Convoy district period. Check them out.:)

This time, I went with the pandan and Thai tea flavors. I'm a big fan of Thai tea ice cream, so I'm glad to know I have a spot back home that serves it. The pandan was refreshing as well and balanced everything out nicely. All in all, definitely give Sunday a try if you're looking for something a little different from the typical ice cream lineup.
With Hammond's gone, it was hard to find another quality ice cream shop with easy parking. Sunday ice cream specializes in top notch ice cream with Asian flavors. I sampled a few before deciding on a split scoop. Their portions are generous so one "scoop" could easily be shared. There is a small selection of free toppings available at the cashier. Their ice cream is perfectly sweetened, enough to highlight the flavors. I got Vietnamese coffee and black sesame. The colors together aren't instagram styled but my mouth was happy.

This is my second time coming here and the flavors are always so good! I love that the staff are friendly and allow you to try the flavor before you decide. I also love that they sell Lactaid for the lactose intolerant people. I ordered the jasmine milk tea, Vietnamese coffee, and the matcha flavor. My favorite was the Vietnamese coffee, the coffee flavor was strong but not overpowering. The jasmine milk tea tasted exactly like the boba drink in ice cream form. And the matcha flavor itself was strong in matcha flavor which I liked, and was not too milky. The parking here can be pretty bad, since it shares a lot with many other restaurants, so keep this in mind. Sunday Ice Cream is still worth coming to after dinner though.
split scoop ($6.25) - got matcha and black sesame because those are my go to orders - this is like the most MATCHA-Y MATCHA ice cream ever on the west coast wow; i actually felt like i was swimming in green grass - it is so so so strong with a good amount of bitterness, your TONGUE will turn green - black sesame was pretty good but not the strongest; it could be more nutty n toasty rating: 4.8/5 - i will DRIVE 2 hrs just to get this ice cream and that is saying a lot because i will not do this for any other spots other than kansha - the matcha was just so impressive i still think about her - i like how it's spacious inside and they got some tables and seats inside too - also the graphic design is top tier; whoever designed their posters are cutie pies - quick service; nothing much to note IG: @nom.noms.only
Five stars for Sunday Ice Cream! This is one of our favorite ice cream spots. They have so many unique Asian-inspired flavors like Milo, barley, jasmine milk tea, Thai tea, black sesame, and their matcha. And when I say premium matcha, I mean PREMIUM matcha. Everything we've tried has been so creamy and delicious. We come here at least twice a month and our kids love it too, which is always a plus. The staff is super friendly and always lets us sample flavors, which is helpful because there are so many good ones to choose from. Parking can be kind of difficult, so we're pretty intentional about when we come. The space inside is also pretty small, with maybe four tables and a couple chairs at each table, so it's definitely more of a quick stop than a place to hang out for a long time. But the ice cream is so good that we keep coming back. Definitely one of our go-to spots! read more

They have lots of unique Asian inspired flavors. I would have liked to sample more but more groups came in and I didn't want to hold up the line. I opted for the single scoop split in a waffle cone with Vietnamese coffee and Thai tea flavored ice cream. It was delicious! I love that you can add toppings yourself at the end. They have sweetened condensed milk and sprinkles to top off your treat! The shop has a few tables inside to enjoy in shop and a parking lot. I'm sure at busy times parking can still be rough as it often gets in the busy convoy district but on a Wednesday afternoon I was able to easily park right in front. read more

Small little ice cream shop, friendly service. You can try samples. They have kid sized cups as well as cones. They offer specialty flavors as well as a couple of non dairy flavors. Seating is limited especially on a weekend. They are located in a parking lot with several other establishments, parking. Is free for the first two hours. Our kiddos LOVED the ice cream! Quite possibly the BEST ice cream I've ever had. So creamy and delicious flavors. I got black sesame and ube. Perfect combo! My son got matcha and Vietnamese coffee. The matcha is very matcha-y but son enjoyed it. Black sesame is very nutty, and a perfect complement to the ube. Love that you can split a single scoop and it's the perfect amount. read more

black sesame was not as strong as i was expecting. Its more light and creamy. The boricha was great though! Subtle notes of coffee and roasted toasted goodness. small tables and seating available inside. lots of parking outside too. we went after lunch so it was pretty quiet. service was great! they let you sample flavors before ordering. read more
Stop by after Korean bbq, good selection of exotic/Asian flavor ice creams here. Matcha was hella potently bitter & not for everyone, black sesame just ok. I liked the jasmine & lemon flavors. Vietnamese coffee was potent, hello panda was good. read more

Thinking night time would be a great time for some ice cream but boy was there still a decent line to get in! We love how unique the flavors offered are, many of which are flavors I grew up with! I can see why the line is so long: friendly, knowledgeable staff, affordable pricing, generous portion sizes, and variety of flavors, My absolute favorite so far is the hello panda, a scoop of nostalgia in a cup. I did get the taro and Ube as well which was the perfect blend of both flavors and a beautiful shade of purple. Looking forward to my next visit here to try even more flavors! read more

I love coming here after a nice meal at one of the many lovely eateries on convoy. My favorites are: Pandan, black sesame, milo, red bean, and hello panda! These lovely flavors take me back to my childhood and they've perfected it to taste spot on! Their customer service has always been great, too! I love Sunday Ice Cream, and I always find myself coming here for a little sweet treat after a dinner at one of the many restaurants in Convoy. They have a solid selection of flavors to choose from, and they allow you to sample, too! The employees helping me are super patient, never rushing me through this (very difficult!) decision. My least favorite flavor that I've tried was the banana milk. Conversely, my favorites have been the Hello Panda, boricha, and pandan. I love all of these Asian flavors!! This definitely makes Sunday stand out from other ice cream shops. Although they have wonderful flavor options, I find myself defaulting to Hello Panda. It's just too good! Even a single scoop is plenty, and it comes with a little waffle square. The ice cream itself is so deliciously creamy and packed with that Hello Panda flavor. There are even little chunks of Hello Panda mixed in, which really takes it to a whole new level. If I lived closer to Sunday, this would be very dangerous for me. The store itself is a bit small, but they do have seating inside. Sometimes it's hard to find a seat/table, other times not so much. The good thing is that people are always moving in/out, so it's never too bad. I believe they also have a bathroom inside. Overall, I LOVE this ice cream shop! It's currently my favorite in all of San Diego. The only thing I don't like is the parking; the lot is so small (like all the ones in Convoy), but it's a one-way lot, so it's really inconvenient if you don't find a spot on the first circle. There was a line out the door when we went at night, but it's because the staff was very generous with samples. Also all the flavors looked so good I wanted to sample all of them if I could! I came back to try a new flavor and it was the perfect sweet treat! The Thai ice tea ice cream is by far my favorite flavor, it was creamy and strong, though a little sweet. A single scoop is a generous amount, I would even be able to share it with two people. I also tried the matcha and taro ube flavors, which both tasted a little artificial. The worker was nice and let me sample some other flavors before choosing. There's limited seating inside, so be prepared to stand! read more
Food The ice cream is very creamy and milky (they do sell lactaid for those that need it!) The flavors are mostly Asian inspired like banana milk, ube, pandan, hello panda, etc. However, they still have the classic vanilla! The flavors are quite unique so I give it 4 stars, but beware the ice cream is veryyy sweet. There are also complimentary toppings like rainbow sprinkles and condensed milk. Service The service is what you need. They provide samples and get you in and out in a timely manner. Ambience The decoration is cute and reminds me of the parlors in Asia. Walking into an ice cream shop and immediately feeling warm is kinda crazy but that's exactly how it felt stepping into Sunday Ice Cream. Located right in the middle of Convoy so parking is kinda hit or miss. I got lucky but I can easily see it being annoying on weekends. The shop itself is small and cute and feels like a quick stop type of place. There's some seating inside and a few seats outside. It was pretty warm inside which threw me off for an ice cream spot. There was a larger party being helped when I got there so I did wait a bit but honestly not that bad. If you want samples and the full experience you just have to be a little patient. Service was just okay nothing super standout. The worker seemed a little off maybe just a long day so it is what it is. The display had a good amount of flavors but it did look a little worn like the labels were not as fresh as I remember from when they first opened. I sampled the pandan and ended up going with the jasmine milk tea in a cup. The scoop was actually really generous like more than I expected. I could not even finish it which I appreciate because you are getting your money's worth. Flavor wise it was super clean and balanced not too sweet and not too heavy. You could see little tea specks in it too which made it feel like it was made in house. It had that light jasmine taste that does not overpower but still comes through. I do wonder if they rotate flavors often or if it is more of a set menu just because the labels looked a little worn and I did not really see anything that felt like a special or seasonal drop. Still it is a solid dessert stop if you are already in Convoy and want something quick and not overly heavy. read more

Fun ice cream place! I tried a number of their flavors and ended up with strawberry milk and their version of cookies and cream- both hits! The strawnberry milk ice cream is delicious tastes just like a milk shake. I was also feeling adventurous and choose a Jasmine Milk Tea flavor for latter! ( that reminds me, it's still in my freezer!!). When I walked in there was one person in line by the time I walked out there was a line out the door. The staff is patient as you discover the flavor you will be buying! read more

I'm usually super basic when it comes to ice cream flavors, and I tend to stick to the Thai tea ice cream every time I'm here. It never disappoints, the flavors are deep and the vibes of the place is so cute. I love to bring others here to try it out when visiting the area! There's always a crowd waiting to eat a sweet treat when I'm there, so expect a little wait. Not bad at all though!! read more

This place has been on my list for sooo long and I'm so happy I finally tried it. I got a split scoop of the pandan and thai tea and it was absolutely delightful. The flavors were rich, the ice cream was the perfect texture, and the combination was paired really well. The workers were friendly and helpful. The place itself wasn't too big but I sat for a while and it was chill. I hope to go back and try other flavors! read more

Came to Sunday Ice Cream on a Sunday haha totally not planned! They let you try the flavors which is super nice and definitely helps when you want to try like a thousand of them lol. My favorites were pandan and ube - both amazing. I added some condensed milk on top and it totally tied everything together. This spot is super unique with a great vibe, great touch, and great service. I've been here twice now and both people I brought absolutely loved it too. You can also split two flavors if you get full easily, which is a nice option. Parking lot can be a little hectic so you're lucky if you find a spot, but it's worth it once you get your ice cream! read more
Stopped in to try the Asian inspired ice cream here. Similar to all the specialty ice cream shops, you can try any of the flavors before choosing. I had to go with my 2 favorites, black sesame and ube taro. They were very flavorful and creamy. My son got the pandan, the color was a bit unreal but tasty and the mango sorbet that was very refreshing! I read that the owner is the woman who opened Bing Haus. For those of you that don't know, they were one of the first to offer rolled ice cream and mochi donuts on Convoy. Good luck to her one this new venture!! Parking can be challenging. But just put on your walking shoes and be prepared to walk a block or so. It's worth it! read more

Convoy is filled with hidden gems and Sunday ice cream is one of them! Ice cream: 4/5 I was so excited to try their flavors since this is an Asian inspired ice cream shop! The flavors such as pandan, hello panda, strawberry matcha, and Thai tea were very nostalgic to me! The shop provides samples so don't be afraid to try something new. There are also free toppings next to the register in addition to the small waffle cone piece they add to your ice cream. Service: 5/5 All of the employees are very patient when providing customers with samples as they want everyone to have the same great experience! Very friendly staff and they also have cute merch. TL;DR: A small Convoy ice cream shop serving incredibly unique, spot-on Asian flavors like boricha and injeolmi. Parking is a total nightmare, but the friendly staff, generous samples, and high-quality scoops make it well worth the hassle. I love coming to this spot for a nice sweet treat. First off, parking here is absolutely atrocious. To be fair, that's just standard Convoy for you, so plan accordingly. It's a small, cozy shop with a lineup of super unique Asian ice cream flavors you won't find anywhere else. The staff is always extremely friendly, and they never shy away from letting you try as many samples as you want (just don't abuse the privilege!). My personal go-tos are the boricha (barley tea) and injeolmi (roasted soybean powder). The flavor execution on these is so spot-on. The boricha completely blew my mind the first time I had it. It's surprisingly refreshing and unlike anything I've ever seen at a standard ice cream shop. I also recently tried their jolly pong flavor and really enjoyed it. The pricing is totally fair for how high-quality and distinctive the ice cream is, and I love that every scoop comes topped with a nice little waffle chip. I'm such a huge advocate for their flavors that I've even brought multiple pints back up to Orange County for my family to try, and they all fell in love with the boricha and injeolmi too. After a filling and satisfying lunch at Angry Pete's Pizza to celebrate Valentine's Day with my forever Valentine and some of our family, we traveled a short distance to try Asian-flavored ice cream for dessert at Sunday Ice Cream. Sunday Ice Cream with a variety of Asian inspired ice cream fits perfectly in the Convoy Asian Food District. If you're an aficionado of this style of ice cream, Sunday is a must visit ice cream shop. I'm giving it 4.5 stars because I really enjoyed the Hello Panda and Milo ice cream flavors, but the waffle bowl serving as its vessel wasn't fresh and the dine in area is not conducive for groups. Sunday is located in the Asian culinary battlefield called the Convoy Asian Dining District. It can be found in a busy strip mall called Seoul Plaza where parking spots are limited for the amount of businesses located here. Parking is complimentary for the first two hours, but paid parking via QR code after two hours. Inside this bustling center are Handoo BBQ AYCE, Friend's House, Submarine Crab, and Kuchi Sushi. Across the street are other popular eateries like Crab Hut, Tofu House, and The Taco Stand. Sunday's footprint is small with five tables/chairs arranged in front of the glass storage ice cream container. Our family of 6 with a stroller were able to gather around one of the tables because the shop has small stools we used instead of the larger chairs. The decor and ambience doesn't give off a sit down and relax vibe. Music was playing in the background and there were Padres bobbleheads, Hirono figurines, and miniature Asian transformer type figurines behind the ordering counter. I had Sunday Ice Cream on my Yelp Want To Go list, so I recommended to my Valentine For Life (VFL) that we visit this ice cream shop after we ate lunch with our in-laws. My VFL usually wants dessert after eating meals, so I knew she'd like my idea. When I describe Sunday as serving Asian inspired flavors, many people know that would mean that it serves Ube, Pandan, and fruit flavored ice cream, which are part of their menu. For those not familiar with these types of ice cream, cool thing about Sunday is that they allow you to sample all of the flavors. After perusing their ice cream flavors and looking at them through the glass case, I asked to sample Hello Panda, Milo, and Pandan. I decided on Hello Panda and Milo after sampling them and ordered the double scoop with one scoop of each flavor inside a waffle bowl. Hello Panda is a Japanese classic with their house made base mixed with chocolate Hello Panda biscuit plus chocolate chunks. Milo is chocolately and malty. Both flavors were creamy, tasty, and were the perfect dessert to end our Valentine's lunch. I wished the waffle bowl was freshly made and wish they had the option to make a sundae or banana split. They do have complimentary squirt bottles of condensed milk to make their ice cream even sweeter. I was blessed to enjoy a Valentine's Day lunch and dessert with some of the loves in my life. Finishing our time together enjoying memorable ice cream at Sunday Ice Cream was the proverbial cherry on top without any cherries because you can't order a sundae. read more
