Wow!!! I came here last Sept 2020 for my birthday with a group of friends. We had reservations sat down right away I requested for outdoor. Plenty of outdoor seating my preference would be seating in the concrete area bs grass since there too much mosquitoes. Server was very knowledgeable he recommended their appetizers with chips rancheros I think was the name of the dish. The whole table all got different items and everything came out really good fettuccini to the ribs were all very tasty! This is a great place to take the family after a long week. Some of the things I get is the gumbo, fried shrimp, truffle Mac, and banana pudding. They also have really get drinks. I like their old fashioned. My wife gets the pineapple mojito. I like to sit outside where there are fire pits and the kids get to run around. It is a bit pricey but we'll worth it. read more

And she forgot my daughter's side of fruit. The Parmesan fries and fried pickles jalapeños were good. The $31 teriyaki steak was medium well, I asked for medium rare (she even had me repeat it twice). The sauce was an odd saltysweet flavor, not a good teriyaki flavor. Wow! I am completely devastated at what happened this evening. I made a 7:15 reservation for dinner this evening. 1st, it's our anniversary and we heard such great things about this restaurant. 2nd, I just had a double spinal lumbar fusion and while it's difficult to get out and sit in the car for 30 min, we did. When we arrive, we walk to the host stand and give our name for our reservation. Oh let me not forget to mention it's a raining drizzling evening. There are about 20 open tables (under the canopy outdoors)1 of which is set for a 12 top. So, I'm Hawaiian and my husband is African American. We are dressed accordingly, and it's not like we look like people without education or intelligence. Oil and Gas expatriates to be exact of who we are. The host proceeds to take us to a table that is the only table not under the canopy. In fact it has a big puddle in the middle of it. There are 4 tables right next to it that are open and under the canopy. We politely ask if we can get a table under the canopy. She looks at us, and then states she needs to Check with the hostess. Ok, no worries, making sure she sits in rotation. Nope, she comes back and points us to a table that is also wet and only half under the canopy. Still lots of tables all around us that are open and a few that are close to the end of their meal...she tells us those are the ONLY tables available?!!! What? Then she proceeds to tell us that if we want to sit inside there are high top tables that are first come, first served. Really? This is ridiculous. Can you not see my huge back brace and the fact I can not walk very easily? At this point we politely say bo thank you and that we are going to go somewhere else. Worst service ever! My husband made reservations for our anniversary to this place and it was okay in our opinion. First off let's start with the food, we ordered baked goats cheese for an appetizer, this was the best item we ordered, just this alone was worth the trip to Anthonies. For the main course we ordered "off the menu" items which were baked cod and crispy pork belly. While the baked cod was delicious and creamy it came out too hot and ended up being over cooked by the time it cooled down enough to eat. The pork belly was good, nothing over the top. For dessert we ordered Dekker's famous chocolate cake, I remember it tasting better when Dekker's was open. Second the service, our waiter was very nice but would disappear for long intervals which made our meal take about 3 hours. I don't know if it was due to a lack of staff or if we were there on a particularly busy night. Third the atmosphere, while it is outdoor seating it was not a very cold night (mid 60s) but all the heaters and fire pits were turned on, the fire pit next to our table was so hot we had to ask the manager to turn it down which they did without issue. As the place was packed there was plenty of heat in the area. Also being packed the outdoor area has a roof over which held a lot of sound and it was quite loud which made it different to have a conversation at times. This restaurant was recommended by several people. I looked at the menu before making reservations, all the food sounded good. We booked a reservation and went. First, it is family friendly and there were plenty of children around. There isn't a child's play area but there was a little area children could walk around freely and be safe. If you arrive closer to opening the dress is business casual, I suppose as the night goes on it becomes more dressy. Sitting outside was nice, there is a very large patio area (you do need reservations for that area too) with fans. At night I assume they light the fire pit and turn the cute string lights on. It took awhile to be helped, it probably seemed like a lot of time passed since there were tons of staff just standing around. That always annoys me. Eventually our waiter came and he was friendly enough and decently attentive, not over bearing. As our dining time went on the service kept going down hill. We ordered our child's food first asked for a spoon....that never came. It was only acknowledged after we got our appetizer that he forgot. At that point it was irrelevant because my kid just ate her food with a fork. We wanted a spoon to dish her food onto a plate. It was little things like this that just kept adding up to poor service (dropped utensils not being replaced, slow refills, or dessert order not being placed, etc.). The oyster appetizers were delicious, I'd highly recommend them! My husband and I both ordered the T-bone steak that came with one side each. He got the asparagus and I got the broccoli gratin (I wouldn't get that again, it just didn't do much for me). Our child did order the truffle Mac-n-cheese which was very good. Both of our steaks were cold by the time they were served to us. Our server didn't come back until our meal was almost finished, this is why we didn't send it back. There was also not a very good sear on them, like our waiter told us there would be. The desserts were good but nothing to write home about. The chocolate cake said it came with sauce, it was more a drizzle. It's a nice place away from the city, good ambiance. The service as not stellar. The food was not worth the price. We might try it again. So I'd never been to Anthonie's as it's a bit far from where I live. But was invited to a friends wedding reception. This is a 5 star in the middle of nowhere. Since we were at a reception, we didn't have a traditional sit down dinner. Appetizers were brought out for a few hrs. Bacon wrapped quail, ceviche, baked spinach dip, all were excellent. Service was first class. It was cool outside so fire pits were burning. This is definitely worth the drive out for an outstanding meal. Full service bar. Live music sometimes. So many flavors and very fresh. -Lamb chop - good but on the dry side - mashed potatoes were great! -Filet - great cut but could use more seasoning and a tad less char - broccoli side was phenomenal! -Lobster- the best grilled lobster I've ever tasted which says a lot because I generally stick to only steamed lobster as grilling and broiling tends to dry it out and make it rubbery -Bread Pudding - HOLY LOSE MY RELIGION! I would go back just for that! In fact, I told my husband next time we go that's all I'm ordering. I was too full to finish it tonight and it broke my heart to leave it on the table. Never again. Highly disappointed with our last visit. Service was good, as always however the food seems to be going down, and is far from worth the price you pay. I had the fish with crawfish special and was highly disappointed. My fish was the size of something you would find in a home aquarium and the crawfish etoufee was burnt, the dirty rice wasn't even edible. I did watch our waiter speak with the manager regarding my rice but did they obviously didn't want to be bothered with speaking with us. My wife had the chicken fried chicken over what could easily be called insta-potatoes. I remember when this was an amazing dish with the chicken taking up the whole plate instead of 1/4 of it. What seemed like a destination in our backyard, we had to drive through roads less traveled to get to Anthonie's. Dim lit roads and a few small towns later, we see a sign that says Simonton - population 962. We can tell we were getting closer! Cute string lights shine from a distance and we pull into a graveled parking lot, even though it seemed like the entire town was there, there was still spots for us to park. Reservations for 7:30 pm, we make it on time, however, there was still a small wait. The layout seemed logical and organized, you check in at the hostess stand up front, and as you step to the side to wait, there's a waitress taking orders for your drinks (if you choose) while you're waiting for your table. 2 Hucklberries please. One large ice cube, tasty drink, but it could've been strained a little better. Overall good. We asked for an indoor table, they put us outside - but I'm not upset, the atmosphere was too adorable. It was a little chilly (70 degrees for a Houstonian wearing a sleeveless LBD) so I asked Sean, our waiter, if it was possible to move the free standing firepit over. He moved it without hesitation. Sean quickly asks us for our next drinks while he brings out two waters. Blueberry Cucumber Martini and a old fashioned, and we order what Sean suggests as an appetizer. Tonight's special, 4 cheese charbroiled oysters. They come out piping hot and the cheese is melted just right. One bite and my mouth craves more. Before we know it, all 6 were eaten. Sean comes over and tells us about tonight's Chef Special - we decide to go with the Surf and Turf and the Gulf Snapper and dirty rice. I secretly order a Strawberry MoTito when he gets up to go to the bathroom. Surf and Turf - cooked medium. Super tender and juicy, melts in your mouth. Lobster tails were nice and scrumptious. It was served with breaded deep fried asparagus and mashed potatoes. Gulf Snapper - topped with crawfish etouffee and a side of dirty rice. The snapper was perfectly cooked and the crawfish etoufee was flavorful. I couldn't stop eating, until I realized I had finished my entire plate. Before our dinner was over, Sean asks if we wanted desert - tonight was Pumpkin crumble with a scoop of Blue Bell vanilla ice cream that would take 30 minutes to prepare. With the appetizer and entrees being so delectable, we couldn't pass up dessert. As the piping hot cast iron skillet with aromas of pumpkin spice hits our table , our final drinks come out as well. He orders a Sambuca and I get the Refresher. The pumpkin crumble was just divine, not too sweet, a great pumpkin flavor and the vanilla ice cream just tops it off. I cannot express how much we enjoyed this hidden gem. The service and the food will exceed what your expecting. Probably the. Only negative it's the wait to get into the restaurant. The secret is to come early or come after the main rush dinner hours. (6:00pm - 8:00pm) The restaurant has indoor and outdoor seating. I recommend sitting outside. On the weekends there's live music. Once you're seated the wait staff is right there to take your order. If you drink wine they have a excellent selection and they also blend their own. I recommend trying one of the house blends. Please ask the staff about the house blends because they're very knowledgeable and can explain and help with your selection. The stuffed bacon wrapped quail is a great starter or the baked goat cheese. I had the gulf cobia and shrimp w lemon butter, jasmine rice and mango-avocado salsa. Cobia fish is a white fish that is something you want find on many other restaurants menus. I'm someone that eats 60% of my food and takes the rest to go because I eat to much of the appetizers. Well not this time I cleaned my plate. Yes I was very full and maybe shouldn't have eaten so much but it was just that good!!! Also the drunken short ribs w mashed potatoes, grilled asparagus and steaming au jus is a great choice. There are many things to choose from like wood fire oven cooked pizza or several different types of sandwich. Yes they also have steaks but I haven't tried one yet. i really, really wanted to love anthonie's. i've heard so many amazing things for years, and my parents recently went and loved it. so, i decided to take them out here. we had a reservation for 8 and were seated around 8:20. my mom has never met a house cabernet she didn't like - except for the house cab here. my dad and i split the ribeye ($65, $87 with oscar topping). i was impressed by the fact that we were able to split it because it was HUGE. it was a little too salty, though, and had a lot of fat/gristle that i just couldn't eat. the oscar topping, which i paid an extra $22 for, was mid. i couldn't really taste it at all which was really disappointing. the ribeye was supposed to come with a creamed spinach stuffed tomato - i ordered an additional side of loaded mashed potatoes, but our waiter thought that i wanted the mashed potatoes INSTEAD of the stuffed tomato, which is fine. he said the stuffed tomato would take an extra 15 mins if we wanted it that badly (we didn't). my mom's fried shrimp was yummy but a little salty as well. our waiter was kind of doing the bare minimum but we noticed other waiters were super attentive to their tables. he didn't ask us if we wanted dessert (we did), etc. the chocolate cake was pretty good. i liked that my virgin strawberry mojito was not very sweet, but i didn't like the $8 price tag. speaking of overpriced drinks, if you want a glass of milk (???), it costs $5 (?!?!?!?!). a pricier half gallon at heb is less than $5. most gallons are less than $5. maybe they have a cow in the back squeezing milk directly into the glass. who knows. i liked that despite the fact that anthonie's is pretty expensive, it's not "fancy". people were comfortably wearing jeans/casual clothes. final verdict - i think we just got unlucky when we went. i don't think i'll be back, but i think anthonie's is worth giving a try. read more

Decided to grab a a Sunday dinner with my oldest son. As we ran thru our list of options we decided to try something new. I recalled seeing Anthonie's Market Grill, Simonton featured on Goodtaste tv show a couple of weeks ago so decided to give it a try. One of the first times driving away from Katy as opposed to Houston..lol. Resturant/Atmosphere- resturant sits on sprawling acreage surrounded by open fields/cattle and has a tranquil vibe if you looking for different ambiance. The resturant layout is quite interesting as it one of first I've seen in which outside dining area is almost 3x large than inside. Clearly with the nice patio layout this was by design for patrons to enjoy the scenic views outdoors. There are at least three patio areas with fans and heat lamps for fall. Section for live music too. Paved parking lot many spaces Food- Menu offers a variety of meat, seafood and poultry. Appetizers also provide multiple options. My son, a big cheese eater, ordered the goat cheese app which has honey, figs, chives, nuts and bacon with the sourdough bread. I tried it but he eat most of it and loved it. For my entree, I selected the grilled salmon with blacken scallops served over a bed of collards and garnish with shredded potatoes fries. Well done and presentation was novel. Portion was respectable for the price, I ended up taking 1/2 back home. It was good. My son devoured and took down the braised short rib with asparagus over mash potatoes. Like father like son, a picky eater, gave his dish it two thumbs up. Service- was flawless. Personable server. This was my first and last time there. I reached out to them to talk about my experience and make some helpful suggestions. I never heard back from them and therefore will never return. First, my cocktail was warm. I ordered the pot roast and had to cut with a fork and knife. My desert that I had to order with my entree was mostly a "filler" of ice cream. There are far too many and better restaurants to choose from. *Not to mention not one manager came by and asking how we were doing etc. I'm sorry but it takes a minute. Stopped in for a late lunch on a whim without reservations and was lucky to get a table as they had a good crowd for the time of day given. The wife ordered the Smoked Pork Shank w/ Cajun Mac & Cheese and bacon collard greens. I ordered the Shrimp and Asiago Grits so we could try both dishes (our normal routine). I'll start with the Shrimp & Grits, absolutely delicious and best I've ever had. That takes a lot for me to say as I've explored some of the best dishes in Louisiana and most of the South. Shrimp was grilled to perfection and the grits were on point. The Pork Shank dish was also very delicious. We dined in today for a late lunch for my mother's birthday and had high hopes that we would have our usual pleasant service. However today seemed to be the exception as we were paired with a server (Tyler)who was less than enthusiastic. Very impatient and quite snarky. I can understand that the job can be overwhelming, stressful and maybe even chaotic but as a server you should be mindful of how you come across to paying customers especially if you're having an off day. I do hope he reads this review and uses it as a learning experience.
