With the help of Mellissa we were able to without a single hitch have beautiful evening filled with happiness and smiles. Her and the Anthony's staff assisted in every fashion of the wedding from set up to clean up. It was amazing. The food was to die for and the service was impeccable. We made use of the outdoor patio next to the river and fire pit. Which worked out to be absolutely gorgeous. We couldn't have done this without the help of the willing Anthony's staff. Where can you go for a fresh, tasty four course meal for under $20? Anthony's at Old Mill District, that's where. We've been to Anthony's a few times, and recently decided to check out their $19.95 Sunset Dinner, and we were not disappointed. By the other reviews you know that Anthony's butts up to the Deschutes river overlooking Les Swab Amphitheater which offers great views and tons of entertainment for watching all those trendy Bendites run by along the walking path with their equally trendy canine companions. The restaurant itself has predictably comfortable atmosphere, although they're probably due for a design upgrade just to keep things looking snappy ... and trendy. We arrived early to partake the early bird fare, and so there were only a few other patrons in the dining room, though the all-too-small bar was totally packed out with Friday revelers generally whooping up the arrival of the weekend. After being seated our waitress arrived to 'greet' us, but we were initially a little put off by her seemingly cool demeanor. After a little while though, she seemed to undergo a transformation from Nurse Ratchet to someone slightly more pleasing to deal with. We ordered a mix off the Sunset Dinner with main courses to include the Fresh Trout and the Alaska Silver Salmon covered with Bay Shrimp. Our appetizers arrived soon thereafter, and I have to tell you ... order the Wild Salmon Croccantini - it totally hit the spot while the Chilled Bay Shrimp Cocktail - while good, didn't compare to the Croccantini. Following the appetizer came the soup and salad. The Clam Chowder was outstanding, particularly after receiving a hearty dose of fresh crushed black pepper. I understand that the Caesar salad was 'alright'. After a brief break the main course arrived and I think Nurse Ratchet, er ... I mean our waitress actually cracked a smile during the delivery (warmed my heart to see such a thing happen). My pan fried trout was excellent. Served crispy skin side down and lightly breaded with a wedge of lemon and tarter sauce - the trout was cooked perfectly and came across quite tasty. The other main dish at the table offered now familiar ingredients of salmon and Bay shrimp, both are reported to be delicious. The side dishes included asparagus which was perfectly crispy and well seasoned although generously buttered along with basmati rice sprinkled with almond slivers -- both very enjoyable. By now we were getting quite full, but the meal finale was a dessert course, I got the chocolate mousse while my partner got the 'Burnt Cream' aka creme brulee. The chocolate mousse was outstanding! The 'Burnt Cream' was somewhat lacking, particularly if you are a fan of genuine versions of creme brulee (apparently they burned the sugar and then refrigerated the dessert -- a terrible no-no for authentic brulee fans). By the time we left the place was packed out with a patronage of very interesting characters, particularly enjoyable if you are a people-watcher. On the way out the door we happened to catch a big event happening at the bar ... an Oyster Slurp contest where about six contestants competed to slurp up six raw oysters as fast as they could without using their hands ... after only a few seconds all the oysters were noisily slurped up and the winner received a hearty round of applause from bar patrons (slurping contest finals are next week for readers who happen to be oyster slurpers by nature). All very exciting. Bottom line is ... the Sunset Dinner is well worth trying out. The food is very good, the atmosphere is pleasing and the views are great. The wait staff seems a little stilted, but ... seriously, be nice to your senior waiters and waitresses, they need love, too. read more

As another review mentioned, we came here the other night for christmas dinner. Now, because it was christmas, I'm sure they were understaffed, but this was *bad*. We sat in the bar first, waiting for a table. The one bar tender who was doing both bar and restaurant service, was completely overworked. When he finally did get us our drinks, they were wrong, missing parts (no sugar on the rim, no nutmeg on the drink), and the warm drinks were cold. He was a good dude, and tried to make it right when he could. But he was clearly drowning. The dinner service was, in a nutshell, awful. One entree came out 30+ minutes before the rest of our party's, and was cold. The $40 filet + crab entree I had, was possibly the worst cut, stringy assed piece of filet I've ever seen. The entry was cold, and something (the crab or the hollandaise) had a spoiled/acrid flavor that made it completely inedible. And if that was a 9oz. filet, I've got a bridge to sell you. The waitress tried to make it better, apologizing profusely, and giving us a cup of soup... but it was just ridiculous. Tip to staff: offer us wine, not soup. I understand that on christmas, service sucks, nobody wants to be there, etc. But at some point, you need to either pay the staff to get the right people to be on, or just close the doors for the night. Even with the steak taken off the bill, we still payed *over $150* for 4 people, and I went home pissed off and hungry. read more

My husband, sister and I were looking for some appetizers and drinks on a Friday evening. We showed up around 7pm and the place was packed. We manged to grab seats in the bar very quickly. I had been once before and I was aware they are primarily a seafood restaurant (not my favorite) but I assumed they would have something none seafoody on the appetizer menu. Well you know what they say about those who assume...oops all seafood. Which is OK I certainly don't fault the restaurant for my assumptions. Just be forewarned. The drinks we had were delicious, and although the place was packed, Cody the bartender was amazing. The atmosphere in the restaurant is stunning. You have a beautiful view of the river and big fire pit outside. And if you make it to Anthony's you have to check out the bathrooms...yes the bathrooms. Each stall feels like it's own suite. What a bummer. Been here a few times with good results, albeit a tad pricey. This most recent visit was possibly the last. Was in the Old Mill last night to catch a movie. It was a Sunday night, so more convenient places like Kona were closed. Two of us, grabbed a seat in the bar area. There were two other small groups here at the bar around 8pm. Rest of the restaurant was not busy. Seated and greeted by a bartender, who then left and came back with menus a minute later...the menus just sat ten feet away at the hosting station...not sure why he didn't just bring them originally when he visited us. As we learned from watching him work, he did everything in this deliberately inefficient and maddening way. Ordered a pair of beers, which were NOT honest pints: http://honestpintproject.org/ Instead of asking if we'd been there before, he proceeded to explain the menu for a minute, as we impatiently waited for him to hand it over. It was Oysterfest, or some such thing. The related special menu items looked interesting and tasty. Ordered an Oyster Sampler (market price?) and a pair of Oyster tacos. He said that he would bring bread. No bread. Long wait. Food came finally, all at once. Would've liked the raw oysters before the tacos, but whatever. tacos could just sit and wait. Had to actually ask for bread now. It came a few minutes later. We got 9 oysters on the sampler, 3 of which were teeny tiny, but very flavorful. The tacos are 90% breading, basically oyster-filled hushpuppies. Taco was dry, no sauce aside from some chunky tomato salsa on the side. Bleh. Beers vanished mid-meal, never got water. Waiter chatted with a distant table for a few minutes. Food was eaten. We waited longer. Beers still empty. Waiter returns, asks if we want desert. No, we're pissed. Just a check. Movie started 5 minutes ago. We wait even longer for check. Check comes, $40. Wow. So the oyster sampler was itself was $18, no wonder they don't put a price on the menu. Skimpy beers were $5 and tacos were $10. Ouch. So yes. Very crappy service. We were also there over an hour, just for some appetizers and 2 beers, missed our movie. Prices were very unreasonable as well. It may be our own fault for misjudging the movie/meal times, but that was only a minor annoyance compared to the rest. read more

One of the best happy hours I've had by far. Between the 5 of us there was not much we didn't try. They have a variety of local beers of tap which is great and the lemon drops were well worth the $5 happy hour price. For food we got clams which came with butter in a nice lemony broth, I would have eaten another dozen of them if the opportunity had presented itself. It sure beats a burger thats for sure. We also got the Ahi nachos, there were only 4 but they were divine. The mussels and the crab, shrimp and artichoke dip proved to be a real winner too, and finally the crispy calamari which was a gigantic portion of lightly battered and fried calamari. Summary: Mediocre food for the price, decent service. Won't recommend coming here unless you have no other options. I had the Alaskan Razor Clams Special, one of my friends ordered the burger (there was only one on the menu) and another ordered the Cod Special. The Cod Special was pretty good but the other two dishes were pretty bad. My Alaskan Razor Clams Special came with string beans and rice. The razor clams were over-fried, greasy and tasteless. The rice was cold and bland. This may be a personal preference but the string beans were not cooked well and the ends (the pointed part of the pods) were not removed. The burger came with salad and fries. The fries were the only redeeming part of the dish: the burger was dry and the salad was mediocre. EDIT: In case anyone is wondering why someone from Illinois is reviewing this: we were on our way back from Crater Lake and decided to stop at Bend for dinner. Long story short- we got seated at 5:45, and it took 1 hour to get our entrees. We had ordered a couple of appetizers, which we finished and the dirty plates were never cleared, even after the entrees arrived. Finally after 1.5 hours we got up and asked for the check, and when the waitress brought it only then did she apologize for the long wait. We understand that businesses are struggling to find staff, but the total lack of communication about the status of our food and nonchalant attitude about how much time everything took- to get food, to get our check- means we won't return. read more

This place is pretty good. I had the halibut with some reisling, and both were excellent. Other people at my table had the rockfish and the ahi, both of which were also good. The waiter was excellent and very attentive. We also tried the crab, spinach and artichoke appetizer which was amazing. The bread that comes with every meal is also good. There is a bar area inside and it looks like you can sit at outside tables - weather permitting. It seems like a large portion of their menu is oysters. Didn't try any of them though. Um my handful of romaine lettuce with a couple canned cocktail shrimp on it cost $5.00. That salad would normally cost $1.99 at any chain restaurant. We have been here on the patio for 20 minutes without drinks, nor our food ordered. After I made eye contact with another server he must have felt bad and brought water to us and told us our server would be over shortly. He was taking care of the couple next to us- they had drinks and food ordered in less than 10 minutes. About five minutes after (josh or Zach) brought us water the female server came to our table and took our drink order. After another 15 minutes my husband ask the waiter who brought us our waters (Josh or Zach was his name) if he could take over our table and see where are drinks were at - he said sure I'll take care off it. Before he brought our drinks back the female waitress came up to us and said there was confusion on who was taking care of us. TOTAL LIE, she was the one that came up to us and took our drink order. At that point more than enough time had passed. I told my husband I was going in the restaurant and find the manager- my husband told me not to - let it go she obviously had something against us for refusing to serve us. Once we were out of the restaurant my husband said "you know why she refused to serve us, my T-Shirt. She was by the front of the restaurant when we came in and I was behind you. She refused to serve us because I was wearing my Under Armor Wounded Warriors Freedom T-Shirt and doesn't agree with our political views so she discriminated against us and refused to serve us. The restaurant compd our first drink order but we were still confused about what just happened. We received great service from our second server (Josh or Zach). Only reason for two stars is that we had a great table with view of the Deshutes River despite being discriminated against. It's really gone over the cliff when liberals, who clam to be "tolerant" are the absolute opposite and the real haters - tired of having MY voice shut down by hate. In town visiting and found this restaurant from word of mouth by a local at a gas station. We decided to broaden our horizons and try it out. We came on the right night as we walked into a live band that was across the way and listened from where we were given a seat on the patio. The night in general was comforting. I always get uneasy going to new places especially in new towns as you really do not know what to expect. I am a server myself and carry high expectations unintentionally and sometimes it ruins my night because I accidently judge alot and do not think about it. But this worry went away. Our server was Kyle. A really unique, and personable guy. He really made it feel like we were a local, or even a friend. Our dinner lasted almost two hours and felt like just a brief lunch break you would take during work. We do not write reviews often but felt that this was essential as it really made a night to remember. If you get a chance stop in. My BF and I went to Anthony's for a celebratory dinner. It was super crowded with a half hour wait, but we were able to get in immediately with bar seating. So we sat overlooking the kitchen, which was very entertaining. Service was excellent, despite our awkward seating (it's right in the waiting area). I had the king crab salad with a cup of clam chowder. The chowder was good, but not as good as I've had in Monterey or in New England. It definitely could have used more clams. The salad had a good amount of fresh crab, but not much else aside from lettuce, and some of the lettuce pieces were a little wilty. Also, they dressed the salad, and it had FAR too much dressing, and the dressing itself was too heavy for the type of lettuce (mesclun/baby lettuces) that they used. A light citrus viniagrette would have been much nicer. My BF had the peach lemonade, which he said was amazing (and is still thinking about today), and the steak and fries. For a seafood restaurant, they did the steak very well and it was deliciously seasoned. One other point to note was the mac and cheese - we watched them make it and it looked so good, we requested it as an appetizer. It's only on the kids menu, but they made us a mac and cheese appetizer, with a little addition of some herbs and other ingredients, and totally made it an adult dish. It was a highlight of the meal, and the fact that they even accommodated that request, was what is earning them 4 stars instead of 3. Stopped in here after spending all day floating down the river, so we were pretty hungry. They have a nice selection of local beers, and they made me a delicious lemon drop (I was in the mood for something girly.) We started with a shrimp cocktail, which was great, and ordered a Copper River salmon salad and a Cajun sol dish. The food there is just really top-notch. Fish cooked perfectly, fresh local vegetables. And while it's a little on the fancier side as far as restaurants go, the food is always both amazing and unpretentious. One would not expect to find a good seafood restaurant in Bend, Or. We have been to Anthony's in Tacoma several years ago and we thought we would try the one in Bend. We were not dissapointed. My wife had the Petrale Sole and she is still raving about it. I tried the blackened rock fish and it was good but not quite spicy enough. A friend we were dining with had the salmon which I hardly ever order in a restaurant because it always tastes like fish and I usually catch my own. I tried a piece of salmon offered to me by my friend and I must say it was outstanding with no "fishy" taste whatsoever. Whenever we are in Bend or anywhere there is an Anthony's it is a "must go." Since Grants Pass and Medford are short on good restaurants my wife suggested we go to Bend when we go out. A seven hour round trip drive for dinner. I think not! The ocean is much closer. read more

I've been here for dinner three times since I've moved to Central Oregon. I love all of their food especially the chowder. All of their oysters are great. Today made an order to go and when I arrived to pick it up it was severely unorganized. The food was not ready. When I asked the host to pay she rolled her eyes and said I could pay at the bar after I already handed her the money. My now husband and I enjoyed a nice and beautiful dinner at this restaurant a few months back. The seafood was the best that I have ever eaten, perfectly cooked and big enough portions that he and I shared one dish. We also had our wedding reception here. Lisa made everything too easy... the staff was overly accommodating and made sure that everyone's oder was cooked specifically to their liking. We even had a few picky eaters (gluten free, bird diet, etc). Everything was cooked to perfection! As a bride, the last thing I wanted or needed was to worry, Lisa made sure everything was taken care of weeks ahead of time and even handled last minute (week of & day off) changes. She customized our reception with black table cloths and candles on the center of each table- set up and tear down, we had NOTHING to worry about. Seated promptly, only to be informed that there was no shellfish available at all, which took away over 1/3 of the menu in a seafood resteraunt. (Although, surprisingly the chowder was available which leaves me to assume they must use canned clams for this). If I had known this I would have chosen a new location and been happier. I don't think the food was bad, just somewhat pedestrian, with the exception being the calamari, which was really wonderful. Have been to Anthony's several times before, and always for lunch, so I cannot comment on dinners. The venue is located right on the Deschutes in the Old Mill district, and in the summer you can sit outside. Very nice. Inside the restaurant is trendy, and comfortable and we've never been crowded. The service has always been good and at times waiters have gone out of their way to accommodate our seating preferences. A small complaint would be that the background music is a little too loud for me. I rate the typical luncheon fare as A-OK as it is reasonable, predictable and good. I like the clam chowder, and they offer it in numerous ways on the menu. Particularly like the clam chowder in a bread bowl! read more
