So I took an impromptu trip to Sparks and found myself starving and plush with cash (at the time) so I asked my friend if he wanted to join me and we went down stairs. It was a Sunday evening so not many people dining. All around nice! I work in wine so the decision was left to me for wine selection. I ordered a 2019 Daou Cab but unfortunately they were out and we got a new vintage it was good but young and definitely still needed time. This absolutely didn't detract from the meal. I more or less walked in here on a mission! The Calamari was 8.3/10 the only down side was the marinara needed salt and the sauces were in clunky containers The woodland mushrooms were 9.5/10 perfectly seasoned and rendered beautifully. My steak came with clam chowder (I'm slightly biased because I grew up in a seafood restaurant) but it was an 8.7/10 wonderful flavor lots of clams and potatoes! If you order this beware it comes out hot as shit! My buddy got the chopped salad with thousand island, he said it was solid and a great all around salad 7.5/10 Now on to the steak! I ordered mine Rare and homie ordered medium. Both came out amazing! Juicy and moist. The sauces they bring you are Green Peppercorn, Béarnaise, chimichurri, and Anthony's steak sauce. These were all wonderful. I legit regret not ordering fries for these. (Next time!) I know how to cook and cook a great steak but this gets a 9.2/10 for sure! We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at Anthony's Chophouse. Not only was the food incredible- the service was too! Our server, Kamel made our entire evening. He recommended the best drinks, and the best foods that we had asked about. As someone who greatly enjoys lamb, he recommended we try the Shepard's Pie made with braised lamb and this was the best meal of the night! We also brought a bottle of wine to share with the table that was difficult to open due to the cork age- Kamel graciously opened the bottle and strained the wine for us as well! We are so grateful for his kindness and personality. It made every interaction with him and the restaurant feel so special. Besides the kind service, the food was spectacular. Did I Already Eat? We were a group of eight on New Year's Eve. We arrived at 5:45 for a reservation. It is now 7 o'clock and all I've eaten is dry bread with butter. I will update you if I ever get my food. I did finally get my food. I was in a large group on New Year's Eve. I ordered ribeye. It was cold, dry, and tasteless. I was shocked that a fine dining restaurant would serve such a low quality piece of meat. I never send food back but did this time. The manager was very accommodating and did not argue about giving me a discount. I think that most of the problems that That night had to do with the fact that it appeared that our waiter was covering most of the restaurant by himself. The rest of the blame lie squarely in the kitchen every person at our table got a terrible meal. There is no excuse for that when you're paying these kinds of prices, I would skip this place you get a better meal at Texas Longhorn. read more

This review is based on 2 back-2-back visits. We were going to order the 25 layer cake, but our server gave us a complimentary dessert, so went back the next evening for oysters appetizers and dessert. My son always liked to come here and get a huge slice of the 25 layer cake. Pre-Covid, A slice was $15. It must've weighed pounds. This was One of our stops the week of our 30th anniversary. Enjoyed a nice dinner here last night. It's in the basement of the nugget. The restaurant has a 70s motif throughout. The bread basket is really good. 3 different flavored rolls baked together in a pull apart. The shrimp scampi came with 3 large shrimp off the appetizer menu. Nothing else with it though. My Caesar salad was way overdressed. So if you get it just order dressing on the side is my recommendation. The soup of the day was clam chowder, it was good. Comes out smoldering though so watch out! I got the 8oz filet with mashed potatoes. The steak was delicious! My hubs got the Elk chops, they were equally delicious. I just happened to be craving the Rockefeller oysters today. Emmolo by Caymus Merlot - Great way to start my meal. Smooth and it actually complimented my bread and soup well. Complimentary bread. Olive, tomato & blue cheese - Wow, I can eat these all day. The butter needed to be firmer and it needed a dash of salt? New England Clam Chowder - Piping hot and larger than expected. Very filling, in a positive way. Garden Salad - Good, nothing special. Bone in 20oz Ribeye - Actually 20 ounces. Cooked well; I was not able to finish this. I did not like any of the 3 sauces though. Peju Cabernet Sauvignon - Perfect compliment to my ribeye. Plus, we just had a perfect bottle of this two weeks ago in Las Vegas. But you know that already because you are following. 20oz Filet - Huge! Again, truly 20 ounces! One of the largest filets I have ever seen! Salmon - Excellent, the salmon was cooked perfectly crispy. Not one bite left over. Sea Bass - Another well done entree! Woodland Mushrooms - These were good, and again, very generous portions. This restaurant is impressive for all the right reasons. I went for a yelp event, and then my friend and I decided to for a celebration and we were able to get a reservation the same day (the god's were on our side) We were seated in a lovely booth, (can you say ambiance?) and ordered cocktails, and appetizers, and salads and our entree. Warm bread is brought out, with warm butter, and the courses were brought out in perfect time. The waiter was wonderful, and every person we had contact with was professional, friendly and knowledgeable. We ordered a bottle of red wine, and it was one of the finest meals I've had. I would recommend this for a special occasion or just if you want to have a wonderful meal. I had the seafood risotto, and the scallops were the BEST I've every had. They melted in my mouth. My companion had the duck duo and enjoyed that immensely. The calamari was wonderful, as was the salad. There wasn't anything to be disappointed in. From the mandatory preset menu options, being rushed to order to beat the overbooked parties in the other tables at the venue to the food clearly being pre-cooked then reheated. With a couple of expensive bottles of wine to include gratuity it was over 2k for our group of 8. Garbage all around. Don't waste your time with this place. Much better options in and around Reno. I think he was the owner but he yelled at our group to 'either order now or wait for food to be delivered in 1.5hours. Again, straight garbage experience and the acoustics are terrible. read more

Fine and classy dining in Sparks! Anthony's Chophouse is one of my favorite restaurants in town and I want to publicly apologize for not reviewing them earlier. What's wrong with me?! The Place: Classy and elegant all that I like in a restaurant combined with Western accents. This restaurant has the most beautiful silverware, dishes, cocktails, and wine glasses. The bar is so cute and it has these antlers on the roof so cute and Western. The restaurant has private areas, perfect for big parties, they have tables and booths. The restaurant has great lighting and a cute wine cellar to take pictures. Their wine selection is incredible! I hope they include Storybook Mountain Zinfandel on their list very soon :-) The Food: The food at Anthony's delivers great flavor and excellent quality. My favorite items from the menu that I have tried are: -Shrimp Cocktail: Massive shrimp with delicious cocktail sauce! -Lamb Lollipops: Most flavorful and tender lamb! Mmmm, chef kiss. -Crab cakes: so flavorful! -Seafood Tower: This is an amazing starter for a group. Delicious and fresh seafood. For soup I am always going to go with the clam chowder and at Anthony's is the perfect texture of creamy and lots of clams. Love it. For the main dish, I am a big fan of the ribeye to share with crab legs. The steak comes perfectly cooked. For sides, I love the baked potato and the lobster mac and cheese! My husband is a big fan of the veal chop. During our last visit, we had the tomahawk. This is a new item on the menu and it was so good!!! Anthony's steaks come with a few sauce options. The steaks are so juicy you don't need anything but when in doubt... go for the chimichurri! Do not skip dessert! You have made it this far you know that there is a designated storage space for dessert! Anthony's cheesecakes are amazing! I saw a lot of good reviews for this place and thought it should be good for an anniversary celebration. The service was mediocre at best which normally I don't really care much about but for the $ they charge it should at least be as good as coffee shop service. It wasn't. My wife had soup and a crab salad which she enjoyed. I ordered a "prime ribeye." What they brought to the table was most definitely not prime and I'm 99.9% sure that it wasn't ribeye either. Most likely it was a NY strip steak. I have never seen or had a ribeye that was tough and full of gristle before. It took a lot of effort to get the knife through it. Ribeye has always been my go to for steak and I can't remember ever seeing gristle in a ribeye before. I have never walked away from a half eaten ribeye before either, not even a mediocre one. I am a lucky man. I have a woman in my life who knows, appreciates, and supports my all-encompassing love of food. So much so that she organized a gathering of our friends to participate in one of the Winemaker's Dinners at Anthony's Chophouse for my birthday. The Boss and I have been here before and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, but this meal was something truly spectacular. The Winemaker's Dinner series features a limited number of seats for diners to enjoy an intimate presentation of one vineyard's select vintages paired with dishes specifically created for this event. These dinners are sold out months in advance and always spotlight some of the top vineyards in the country. This night's guest of honor was Stag's Leap Wine Cellars. This evening's repast was a five-course meal paired with two whites and two reds. The meal began with an Amuse Bouche of Ahi and Watermelon Poke and quickly accelerated through the stratosphere. Check out the picture of the menu I've attached. Be prepared to drool. In between courses, a representative of the vineyard gave some history of the vineyard and the varietal we were about to enjoy. The presentation was fun and educational. Even better, there was a trivia contest later based on the presentation. The prizes, of course, were bottles of Stag's Leap Wine Cellar's excellent wine. Throughout the evening, our server Tony, the front-of-house manager Art, and the vineyard representative dropped by multiple times to ensure we wanted for nothing. Best dining experience in Reno Tahoe? That's a broad statement but I'm going to say it's nearly a yes and suggest absolutely everyone to visit! Some may say a classic steakhouse is played out, but I'll tell you that if we'll executed, there isn't a better dining experience out there, and Anthony's Chophouse delivers on this each and every time. So what do I eat? It's not beef, though that is delicious and I go for the MARNELL LAMB CHOPS! Holy wow these are incredible. These chops come from property owner Anthony Marnell's personal ranch, and have exquisite flavor and texture. I recommend a medium temp, as the meat comes out warm, succulent and delicious. Add a little dab of Anthony's house steak sauce, made with a 20yr old balsamic, and it's next level. You can enjoy these as lollipop (single chop) appetizer at a table, as a larger lollipop order at the bar OR you can order a half/full rack, which typically comes with 2/4 double chops and is perfect for sharing. The Sea Bass is also a must here. Perfectly seared, tender and meaty, lightly dressed in a delicate Buerre blanc with an edamame succotash, this one is always a winner. And if you're feeling a steak, my pick would be a filet or a ribeye. Wine? A must here. Their list is LARGE and incredibly complete. The GM is a master sommelier (Level 3 I believe) and he has curated this list perfectly, and the pricing cannot be beat anywhere in town! 1000ml bottle of CAYMUS Cabernet for 135? You can't even get that at the store! Sides? Get em all. Potato Au Gratin and classic creamed spinach are amongst my favorites though. Appetizers... don't sleep on the jumbo lump crab cakes, made almost entirely from jumbo lump meat, or the jumbo lump crab cocktail! Perhaps a seafood tower? The wild mushroom crostini is fantastic. The braised onions and earthy mushrooms are just perfect starters to a meal here. Dessert? Impress the table with the 24 layer chocolate cake and plan for leftovers. There's also a freshly baked cookie and ice cream that I want to try next time! The service experience here is expert level. It's personable and can even be personalized upon request. The staff is impeccably trained to not only address your every need, but predict them and provide whatever it takes with a smile and exceptional grace. When it comes to the kitchen, they follow the same pattern. They can accommodate anything including dietary restrictions, allergies, and even preferences like vegan and vegetarian. The cauliflower steak will wow your vegetarian and vegan friends for sure! From my first visit back in 2019 to my most recent last weekend, they've all been beyond words with regards to hospitality, food and service. Knocked out of the park!!! This year, we decided to go out for Thanksgiving dinner, and we chose Anthony's Chophouse, and it was perfect. They had a 5 course menu special for Thanksgiving, and it was so worth it. We are actually thinking about making it a tradition :) Our serve Khan was very funny, Melody (manager) was absolutely lovely, attentive, and always checking on us. And we had the pleasure of talking with Art, who gifted us with champagne to celebrate the occasion and to finish well, a delicious expresso in the end. The food was delicious. The shrimp cocktail is an amazing bite. The shrimp is huge and flavors are just perfect. The lamb lollipop were so well made and seasoned. That's one of my favorite things in their menu. The salad was such a great choice and combination of flavors between fruit and nuts, and the dressing too. My steak was perfect!!!!!!! Not to mention how great of a deal $ this dinner really was. Had an overall good experience at Anthony's Chophouse. First, definitely make reservations. They make it easy and you'll definitely need them. Second, the service here is fantastic. Everyone was friendly and acknowledged you right away. The waitstaff is attentive and took their time answering our questions. My friend and I started with some Prosecco and appetizers, all of which was brought out quickly. The five onion soup was very good and a perfect serving size. For dinner, I had the seafood risotto which other Yelpers seemed to love, but I found to be bland. The seafood portion was nice; generous sized prawns and lobster. Christmas dinner was sadly a disappointment! We have been coming here for 7 years and absolutely always love it. We haven't been in for about a year because we have been going to Dukes steakhouse and Nevada steak which are both phenomenal so we were looking forward to Anthony's this Christmas. The salmon has changed, they no longer serve it on a bed of spinach that was really delicious and served it with a bland risotto, the salmon had no flavor and the texture was tough. My husband's filet mignon wasn't flavorful and the potatoes au gratin had a weird Smokey flavor. The biggest disappointment was the crab cakes. They have decreased in size and quality. The service was decent but the host in the lobby was somewhat rude, especially on Christmas Day, you expect a better vibe. So disappointing and will probably continue going to Dukes who has phenomenal crab cakes and salmon or Nevada steak who has great potatoes! read more

The decor is on point, the food is pretty solid, and the wine was nice! I tried the hamichi, calamari, bread, Lobster bisque, veal, and key lime tart. One year later Diane and I dined here again, and enjoyed another very good dinner. A Shrimp Cocktail with Bourbon Cocktail Sauce was very good once an errant hair was removed from a shrimp, as were garlic-kissed Escargots accompanied by Lemon Parsley Garlic Butter. A crock of Cream of Five Onion Soup contained delicious melted Gruyere but all elements were not very well congealed. However, a bowl of brownish-colored New England Clam Chowder was very good, and Diane liked her Lobster Bisque that was served in a copper pot. An Iceberg Wedge Salad with Maple Glazed Bacon and Blue Cheese & Buttermilk Dressing and very visible but delicate Red Onions was cool and refreshing. Adding to our enjoyment was complimentary Three-Lobed Bread & butter. My favorite lobes were made of Sesame Seed Bread. For mains, an 8-oz. Filet Mignon was medium rare as ordered, and tasted great with Bearnaise Sauce. Likewise, a 9 oz. Rock Lobster Tail with Drawn Butter was sweet and delicious. Here lobster is normally grilled and then baked. But it can also be ordered steamed. Evaluating sides, a large Baked Potato was perfectly cooked; a topper of sauteed Woodland Mushrooms enhanced my steak; but fully half of an order of French Fries were burned. It took 25 minutes to prepare a Fresh Baked Chocolate Chip Cookie with Caramel and Chocolate Sauce. But the huge confection, topped by a giant scoop of Vanilla Ice Cream, was sweet and delicious. This dessert could have included Whipped Cream, too, at no extra cost. But I felt that I had already stretched the bounds of reason with what had already been ordered for this meal, so elected to forgo another topping. Excellent service was provided by our waiter, Tony, who, course by course, served us a very well-paced meal. Once again, XXXX-1/2 stars overall! read more

It took 25 minutes to get the wine we ordered and then another 30 mins to get our food. It was Seafood Rissotto for the whole table so I dont see how it took more than 15-20 minutes after we ordered. Not sure if it was just a lack of staff cause the waiter seemed to be running around and super busy. Though even if he was busy he kept avoiding making eye contact with us or the table next to us. And the restaurant manager introduced himself but did not want to listen to us or help his staff out. Plans after dinner got canceled cause the food took so long so we stayed an extra hour till they kicked us out. read more

We had our company Christmas party here, the food was amazing, little pricey for the portions but really good. When we arrived for our reserved (for months) party room we had found that the manager had given our room away to someone else the day before and was until we raised some hell that he gave it back to us (we know most of this because the other manager told us), after that though the service was amazing and everything else was great! read more

Anthony's is the best of the best in Reno--not just in food, but in the experience too. We've been here several times, but our most recent visit was for my husband's 40th birthday and Art, the general manager, and the team he works with provided an incredible experience to help celebrate. There is something so nostalgic about old-school chophouses like this one and I love everything about it... from the booths and comfy chairs, to the cocktails and desserts that are made tableside. I made reservations online and requested one of the private booths to make the evening a little more special than just dinner out. We started with the tableside smoked Manhattan and a cocktail from the bar, and then ordered a bottle of ZD pinot noir (recommended by the waiter and absolutely delicious) for dinner. Side note, the wine list here is incredible and you really cannot go wrong with anything on the menu, but if you need help ask your waiter or Art, the manager. They are all very knowledgable on the wines and pairings for your dinner. We ordered the calamari and lamb lollipops to start. The lamb here is raised on the owner's farm and is so insanely delicious. It's prepared perfectly and has so much flavor. I've already decided that I'll order the rack of lamb for my next visit here. I've been wanting to try some things on the menu so for dinner I ordered the burrata caprese salad and pan seared scallops (an appetizer) instead of a traditional dinner. Both fantastic. The burrata was so delicious and the scallops stole the show for my meal. My husband went with the prime cut bone-in ribeye, Brussels sprouts, and Potatoes Au Gratin for his dinner and ohemgee was that ribeye the best chophouse ribeye we have ever had. My husband is a very very very particular ribeye guy even he was blown away by the flavor and preparation of the cut. I was really hoping to finish off dinner with the layer cake (I think it's 24 layers?) but they didn't have it, so we opted for the banana's foster. Art, the manager, prepares this tableside and let me tell you, it's one of the best desserts you'll ever have. So while I was bummed to miss out on layer cake, the bananas fosters made up for it tenfold! I keep mentioning the manager Art, because he plays such a critical role in the success of and experience behind this restaurant. It's amazing that Reno has managed to keep him here and Anthony's is lucky to have him. This man is incredible and works to make every experience at Anthony's a memorable one. He stops at every table to say hello and introduce himself and it's the perfect amount of hospitality. In addition, he gave my husband a wonderful birthday gift, which was such a nice touch and the perfect addition to our evening at Anthony's. If you haven't been, go. To start off my server Blake was fantastic. Extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Years ago I learned that when you're done with your food you signal to the waiter by turning your fork with the tines down on the plate. I've done it hundreds of times in the 20+ years since, and nearly no one has understood. Tonight I flipped my fork and before I could blink Blake arrived to take my plate. I said WOW, no one does that anymore. He said that's how good staff and fine dining is trained. He said he had been watching and wasn't 100% sure I was done, even though nearly every other plate had been cleared, but then he saw me flip my fork. He was just as shocked that I knew that tradition as I was that he knew it. The restaurant went out of their way to make an entirely vegan meal for me and it was stunning. The bruschetta was on a toasted light fluffy ciabatta with a buttery olive oil, mushrooms, tomatoes, basil, and magic. The offered me a cauliflower steak as my meal and when it came out I cracked up. It was massive. They topped it with what had to be grilled green beans, because besides the seasoning you could taste that char flavor you get from grilling. I could wax poetic about them all nigh. The brussel sprouts were cooked to perfection, zero bitterness. I have to say I hate chimichurri sauce; so when they placed a plate down with 4 of their signature sauces I originally snubbed my nose at the chimichurri. However doing my Elite duty I put a dab on my plate. Wow. I mean, look it was so good I took a second scoop. Then when I noticed my portion of the table was done with their food I actually grabbed the whole pot it the remaining sauce and poured it all over my plate. I didn't even feel bad. The peach champagne was fresh and delicious but actually the star was the very fresh and sweet raspberries and strawberries. I was stunned by the lack of bitterness in both. Absolutely amazing! From the food to the service, I was beyond impressed. My husband and I eat at a lot of upscale Bay Area restaurants but this bar far took us by surprise in little sparks Nevada! Our server Donavon was fantastic! He truly made the experience. We had the rib eye steak, clam chowder, green salad, mashed potatoes, mushrooms and calamari. Everything was cooked to perfection and just how we ordered it. We are always skeptical of ordering expensive cuts of steak for our first time. But I regret this! Our steaks were so good, we should have taken the plunge and indulged in the finer cuts. My husband is rarely impressed, but the clam Chowder sent him to the moon. It was hands down better than one the ones we eat at the SF pier. Never thought I'd say that. So creamy and flavorful. The drinks were well proportioned for the price of alcohol. The strawberry daiquiri was exquisite! Our anniversary dinner was more than I could have asked for and we can't wait to return. read more

The gang finally picked a wine dinner to try. The Far Niente did not disappoint. We had our own table of 7 in the sold out space. The four paired dinner was $199. The prices vary from $169 to $249 depending on the winery. We were seated immediately and offered a cocktail, but everyone passed holding out for the wines. The amuse bouche of hamachi crudo in a citrus ponzu was already waiting for us. The first course a very large shrimp encrusted in almond slices with a baby greens salad. I'm not usually a Chardonnay fan, but the paired 2021 Far Niente Chardonnay was devine, and I did purchase a bottle to take home. Not overly buttery or oaky, it was just perfect for me. Course two was seared kvaroy salmon with a blue cheese and bacon latke. Loved the latke. Paired with 2021 EnRoute Les Pommiers Pinot Noir, wow another fantastic wine on its own and even better with the food. So delicious someone at our table bought the last remaining 6 bottles before anyone else could. Course three was a black pepper carpaccio of shaved 1855 prime tenderloin with capers and arugula. Paired with 2020 Bella Union Blend, yet another fantastic wine and combination. This summer I could snack on the intermezzo all season- a bright peach sorbet with a vodka splash. Mmm. Course four- bison tenderloin roulade with a 2019 Far Niente Cabernet Sauvignon. The bison was so tender and had great flavor. I was thrilled with the size of the crowd that the hot dishes were served on hot plates. Anthony's staff was executing the service wonderfully. The dessert was a sweet masterpiece of its own. Caramelized pound cake, balsamic strawberries, and Basil strawberry gelato. That could be paired with Dolce the dessert wine that run $100 a bottle. I congratulate Art and his Anthony's staff to a fantastic evening of delicious food and wine. Your front staff and kitchen staff did a phenomenal job.
