Living in Wilmington, DE we frequently visit the Anthony's on Route 202. Love that crispy, crunchy pizza with the little bit of char from the coal fired oven. Recently, while visiting family in New Jersey we had the occasion to order pizzas from the Mount Laurel location. HUGE disappointment! They may have the Anthony's name but NOT the pizza. Ordered two pizzas--both seemed to have pre-made shells, not the hand-tossed variety. The crusts were plain, underwhelming and didn't have that crispy, coal fired finish. Not sure what was going on, but it was not the Anthony's we know and love. Won't go back and won't encourage NJ family to go back either. Guess that's what happens when you try to franchise a successful restaurant and you water down the quality and experience. read more

We love Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza so much that I seek it out when we travel from Florida up the coast to New York. This location in Mt Laurel did not disappoint. From the outside, it looked like the place might be empty but when we walked in at 5pm on a Sunday, we found it full and grabbed one the last 4-top tables left. There are a number or large screen tv's throughout the restaurant and we were thrilled to see our favorite MLS team playing on one. Our server was very friendly and efficient. My husband and I enjoyed the Anthony's red ale, Fugghedaboutit (something like that), by Funky Buddha. It is a great red ale and paired well with their meatballs. Speaking of the meatballs, they are my favorite item on the menu and are perfectly seasoned and paired with a dollop of smooth ricotta and set in a bowl of marinara sauce complete with garlic toast points (their pizza crust). I recommend everyone get one because they are outstanding. For dinner, our kids shared a large cheese pizza and my husband and I split a small pizza with sausage and minced garlic. Eh... My group at work decided to try this place out for lunch during the week. They accommodated our group of 9 pretty easily (it's a nice, large restaurant) without reservation. Most of us ordered pizza; another ordered the salad and I ordered the Anthony's Favorite sandwich. It was everyone's first time to this restaurant and we were given a large serving of their baked wings for all of us to try. They were pretty good; a nice simple wing with olive oil and herbs atop some focaccia bread and topped with caramelized onions. Didn't think the onions were really caramelized but I couldn't complain about the free wings. Service was alright at best. I can understand it's difficult to serve everyone at the same time when 7/9 of us ordered personal pizzas but how was my sandwich served well before and then the salad almost never came after everyone got their pizza? We weren't charged for the tardy salad but it didn't feel quite right. My sandwich was alright; prosciutto with mozzarella, arugula, and herbs. They pride themselves on making "well-done" pizza here but that meant the crust was very burnt, to the point where many wouldn't even eat it. I saw some of my co-workers break the crust off as if it wasn't quite attached in the first place! I think that's a shame... and this is coming from someone who likes thin crust pizza. They do have a nice selection of beers on tap; typically local or from one of the more popular craft breweries. Soda is only sold by the bottle. Honestly, we all weren't that impressed and it was, at times, difficult to track down our waitress. Especially when we still had one person without his entree! Italian Soul food? I'm not really sure what that is, but this place didn't really impress me. Disclaimer: I'm Italian and it's very rare that I'm impressed with an Italian place (and no, I don't like Olive Garden either). This placed just seemed like one step up from a hole-in-the-wall pizza place (just with fancier food and more expensive ingredients). I didn't think the atmosphere was all that great and our service was VERY slow. That being said, the sandwiches that we had (chicken and roast beef) were actually really good: the bread they have it on is amazing. We saw other people ordering wing and pizza and people seemed to be delighted with their food, but I definitely wouldn't come her for a fancy dinner or anything. Great for beers with the boys I guess. Food is a 4, but service and speed of food prep is a 3 or even less. We ordered soup first and it took 30 minutes to get that! I feel like they were starting a whole new pot of soup or something. Definitely did not expect to spend over an hour here for what I thought was going to be a "quick" work lunch. read more

Placed an order at 12:30 pm for pickup at 2:30 pm. when I got there at 2:15 I was told my order would be a few minutes. After waiting 30 minutes I asked the manager on duty, Dawn what was going on. she seemed annoyed and stressed that I was asking about my order that I placed at this 3 hours ago. She walked back to where the pizza is made and found my order slip. That's when I realized that they hadn't started my order. This is not the first time I've had this issue with this location and particularly with this manager I have been there before when other managers are on duty and everything seems to run smoothly. When she is there by herself, it is always chaotic and unorganized. I was not the only customer there that was frustrated. There were several other people waiting for their orders and the line just kept growing. Dawn was doing everything she could to avoid dealing with the front of the house and us angry and disappointed customers. She seemed to be running around, not really accomplishing anything except avoiding the problem upfront. When I told her I was no longer waiting, by now it 3:15 and that I wanted a refund. What I got was attitude. I will never go back to this location. We love Anthony's wings and pizza but I just can't accept the poor customer service that this location provides sometimes. read more

Anthonys is new to our area. A crowded restaurant is a good sign! My wife and I stopped in for dinner tonight. The staff is welcoming and friendly. The restaurant is not massively big space wise, but the layout is right. There are two bars, one in the center and one smaller one at the door side, near the window. There is also outdoor seating, that is enclosed, only accessible from inside the restaurant. There are flat screen TV's around the perimeter mounted on the walls. I received a nice surprise! I was given a free 12"pizza with cheese and anchovies! My original order was incorrectly placed by our waitress. Upon paying the bill, I was presented with the original pizza that was misordered. Thank you Anthony's!!!!! There is ample space between tables, too, you arent sitting ontop of other patrons. My wife ordered the chicken wings. They are not traditional, soul food wise. They are made and reheated in the oven. There is no sauce on them nor is there dipping sauce accompanying them. They are Italian style. She also had the pork ribs, they had a lot of rosemary on them. I had a 12" pizza, anchovies, pepperoni, kalamata mushrooms and extra cheese. My pizza was awesome! Whenever I eat the crust, that to me me is a pretty good pizza! One suggestion, if you plan to eat dinner here on a Friday or Saturday evening, I would suggest getting here before 5:30pm. It starts getting crowded around this timeframe. We were down in the area and looking for lunch. This place is on a strip with other eateries. We sat at the bar. The place has a nice look and feel to it with dark woods and loss of pictures of sports figures and celebrities and big colorful boards with happy hour specials. I ordered from the dinner menu as I noted they have lunch sized and dinner sized portions of the and dishes. I ordered from the "Italian Soul Food" portion of the menu - a plate ribs and a plate of Italian sausage with broccoli rabe. There were about 5-6 ribs cooked dry rub style (no traditional BBQ sauce) and came in a clear broth like "gravy" cooked with tomatoes and spicy peppers with a sprig of Rosemary. The broccoli rabe came piled on a plate with four rather smallish Italian sausages that were delicious. I offered hubby a taste of the rabe and he stole one of my sausages, which I didn't really think I could spare. If they gave 6 sausages, it would have been perfect. Hubby ordered from the lunch menu and ordered the Coal Oven Chicken Sandwich, which is a marinated chicken breast, topped with prosciutto, roasted red peppers, melted mozzarella, arugula, and served with focaccia and Italian vinaigrette dressing. They had a few craft beers from the Funky Buddha Brewery. I had the Cape May IPA. After hubby kept asking to taste this and that, I asked the waiter if they sold flights ($10). They did and he chose 4. I don't remember their names but they were infused with hints of coffee, pumpkin, and lavender. They were all very good. For dessert we ordered the small pumpkin flavored cannolis which were our of this world. We'll be back when in the area. Highly recommended. read more

This review is long overdue. We've been visiting this Anthony's since 2016. And we've come here at least 5 times during the pandemic. All visits over the years were good to great. About the food: the menu is limited to coal fired chicken wings, meatballs, salads, a few sandwiches, and of course pizza. What they don't have in a huge menu variety, they make up for in a big way by making food that is consistently very good. The pizza here is thin and the toppings are high quality. My favorite pizza here? A basic red pie topped with cooked prosciutto. And his is the white with thick cut pepperoni. If you are a carnivore, the meatballs are not to be missed. The appetizer of 2 brings you a plate of good sized meatballs, always tender & moist, in a shallow pool of red gravy. A good size dollop of ricotta cheese is on the side, as are 2 wedges of focaccia bread. Two leaves of fresh basil garnish the plate, and it is consistently every bit as delicious as it sounds. Safety First: during the 'outdoor dining only' phase of the pandemic, they had brought a lot of tables outside, and those were well spaced out for social distancing. Now that indoor dining has resumed, patio seating is available (as it was pre-COVID), and a few extra tables fringe the edges of that area. Inside, table seating is alternated between empty & usable tables. Other features: there is a bar that is well stocked. You can get beer, wine, or cocktails with dinner. Before the pandemic, there were happy hour specials, so maybe they will resume them sometime in the future. There is a loyalty club you can join on the company website. When you settle your check, let them know you're in the club and they'll apply points to your account. The points add up and you will get discounts but remember to check the account before you order; could be a very special offer on a specific item or just a dollars-off discount. Service: Quite a bit better than at most similarly-priced restaurants. The staff is knowledgeable about the menu, and they always seem happy to see you. I had a simple question about a menu item last night. My server sought out the answer, and the manager also got involved. While my question was simply that, a question, the manager went over and above to make sure I was completely happy. That's what I call very good service. read more

Every single time we come here the service is great, everyone is very friendly and even remembers you, prices are reasonable and most importantly the food is fantastic. We have had the original and Buffalo wings, garlic knots, sandwiches and a few of the pizzas; all have been consistently delicious. Brought someone here from out of town recently that was craving wings and they said they were some of the best they have had. They do not serve fried food which to some might be a bummer but I see it as a perk and take it as I'm eating somewhat healthy-ish. I ordered the Buffalo Wings and a salad. I loved the salad, great Italian dressing and very large. The Buffalo Wings are the best I have ever tasted in my life!!! The wings came with two slices of delicious Focaccia bread. Even plain, the Focaccia was delicious. I used it to sop up some of the Buffalo sauce and Bleu cheese. So my husband and I went for happy hour we ordered five appetizers and you'll have to sit at the bar, all our food came out at the same time. So I asked the bartender to send back the two orders of meatballs because they will be cold by the time I will get to them, the waitress came over and made a snarky remark while taking them back to the kitchen. The wings that I had were so salty they were burning my mouth. My garlic knots were ice cold so I asked if they could be heated and brought out with my meatballs. I never said a word to anyone about how salty the wings were. I turned around to see a man in the open air kitchen, bending down doing something behind the counter with my dish in his hand and the waitress, laughing hysterically. I went up to them and I said I saw what you did. He said what I said I don't know exactly but when you bent down, you did something with my food in your hand, I'm not quite sure what he did , oh no ma'am I just dropped a credit card on the floor and I said really is that whiy the server was hysterical laughing because you dropped the credit card. But you know when you get caught in a lie and you have that look in your eyes, and that lump in your throat, he was so guilty. And by the way, he was the manager. Ordered take out from here tonight. Got a large pizza half Eggplant Marino and half meatball & ricotta and also got the appetizer "meatballs with ricotta cheese". I've been to the restaurant a few times but this was my first time ordering take out. They said it would be ready in 20 minutes which was a great amount of time as I needed about 12/15 minutes to drive there. Upon arrival, I didn't have to wait long for my food. It was just coming out of the oven and they were boxing it up so it was still hot. When I got home I put the pizza in the oven to keep it from getting too cold. The meatball appetizer is always great and I really love the focaccia bread that comes with it. The pizza was great. The only downfall was that some of the crust was a little too burnt for me but overall it was great and I would definitely do take out from here again! read more

First time I tried Anthonys Coal Fired Pizza was in their Philly Location and I loved it! I was so glad to hear that they were opening a location in NJ. I stopped before a Costco trip (nearby in next plaza)and I ordered the Large Pizza w Sweet Peppers, Sausage and Pepperoni. Then of course the Wings. The wings came out first and they were nicely presented with Foccacia Points and Carmelized Onions. It is a different taste, seasoned but no batter or sauce and charred from the coals. I love the rustic taste. The pizza was a good size and nicely but lightly charred in spots. Very tasty and light. Of course we saved half for leftovers. When you're tired of fried, battered and sauced wings this is a nice change. And a little healthier! read more

Came here for an Peter's Irish Dance Fundraiser and found a fantastic Pizza Place. Anthony's Italian Salad was really delicious!! Their baked wings with fried onions also fantastic! We ordered a square pizza with fresh mozzarello and some basil, and red pizza sauce, really good. We ordered a pizza with meatballs to go and when we got home couldn't resist a taste. The meatballs melt in your mouth. Great little place with a warm atmosphere. They also had a special of buy one get one on all of their draft beers, which offered a good assortment of different drafts. The waitress was warm, welcoming and helpful! The food at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza was amazing. My mom and I went for lunch on a Friday afternoon and it was slammed. We got the meatball appetizer, which was absolutely delightful. Then, we each got individual pizzas. I got a white pizza and she got plain with sausage. Everything was cooked to perfection and completely amazing. The only downside was our rude waitress. We felt like an inconvenience the entire time. We understood that it was busy, but we felt rushed, and like our business was unappreciated. At one point, we asked to see the manager because we know him from his tenure as a server at another restaurant we used to go to all the time. Our waitress rudely rebuffed us as if we were calling him over to complain. She then said he wasn't here and didn't elaborate any further. She hardly checked on us, never gave us refills, and just handed us the check without asking if we wanted anything else. While the food was great, I teetered between a 3-4 stars because of the service. If they can fix this customer service issue, then they will be a 5/5 establishment. read more

Really disappointed with deceptive marketing practices. I received an email saying there was a 15.00 credit to use. I ordered Bit there was no code online, so I called. The person who answered the phone said to bring in the coupon and would take the money off of the order. Upon arrival, the manager refused and said it was a confusing email. I would think with an email saying you had 15 bucks off that you would honor it. Not cool. Good pizza & wings? Yes. Good marketing and coupons? Absolutely not. I would certainly mention any coupons before ordering, and even the proof to show -- which hopefully they will honor. read more
