One of the better pizza places in the area... with a caveat. No complaints about the food, and I've always had good service. They were especially kind and helpful when I was hobbling around on crutches a few months ago. But holy hell, it can get noisy! Between college students, the usual entitled Main Line locals shrieking as they toss down cocktails, several TVs, and hard walls, the dining room can get uncomfortably noisy. To some people M&M means those delightful little candies there are so addictive for many folks. No, I didn't say S&M. That's an entirely different subject! However, for fellow Yelper Nando F. and me it means Martini & Meatball night at Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza! So if you are looking for info about chocolate candy, or S&M you can skip this review. Otherwise read on. So the two of us stopped in this Wednesday night around five and the place was just getting going. Nando arrived first and I found him sitting at the bar flirting with the pretty bartender. So here's the deal with M&M night. Any kind of martini you want is $5. It's sponsored by Double Cross Vodka so that will be in your drink. Other than that there are no restrictions. And the glorious meatballs are free. They are a slightly larger than a golf ball and served with a little red sauce and a dab of ricotta cheese on the side. They are delicious and you can have has many as you want. As we munched on meatballs we perused the menu. Numerous fellow Yelpers had raved about both the wings and the pizza so we decided to order both and share. I'm usually not a wing guy but these bad boys changed my mind. A small order of 10 pieces goes for $9.75. These delicious morsels are lightly tossed in olive oil, garlic, rosemary, and maybe another herb or two. Then they are stacked on top of slices of delicious focaccia and buried under a pile of perfectly cooked caramelized onions. I know, I know this sounds incredibly good and it is. For a guy that usually doesn't like wings these were fantastic. Next out was the Broccoli Rabe & Sausage Pizza. We ordered the large 16 inch pie for $19.95. These are thin crust pizzas baked in an 800 degree oven. This one was cooked perfectly and we enjoyed every bite. The toppings are well distributed over the pie and the amount of toppings is great. It's not often you get a truly fine meal at a chain restaurant but for me, and I believe Nando agrees, we had a four star experience. read more

WOW. Anthony's is the real deal. I was torn between the eggplant pizza and the cauliflower pizza, but after the waiter disclosed that those two pizzas are probably the best/most popular, I just ordered both! Oh, and I got a plain for good measure. :) Each pizza was unbelievable... I still cannot determine which one was my favorite. The eggplant on the eggplant pizza was not fried, and the plentiful amount of sauce was flavorful and fresh. The cauliflower pizza was so unique, and certainly did not skimp on cauliflower. The plain pizza was just outright amazing. None of the pizzas were limp or greasy. Perfection. The service could not have been better. Our waiter took the time to tell us his favorite pizzas and why he liked them, and even answered our questions concerning future visits to the restaurant (such as if they take reservations - they don't!) He was so friendly and accommodating, and made me want to return just for such a refreshing personality. The menu is limited, but that doesn't mean that there isn't something for everyone. Both standard pizzas and gourmet pizzas are offered. I would much rather dine at a restaurant like Anthony's that offers a more limited menu but with quality ingredients and service. read more

I don't get the great reviews that this place gets. What it tells me is that the Main Line is in dire need of a real upscale non-bertuccis pizza place. First the good ... The place is clean and stylish but definitely screams chain. The wait staff is very nice and attentive. Now the not so good. The family style salad we had was certainly a decent quantity, but I expect a lot more for $9 than a bunch of chopped romaine, a few slices of tomato and egg and about 6 olives and ten chick-peas. Really? Add to that the fact that they only offer two salad dressings: red wine vinegarette and oil and vinegar. Skip the salad (there was only one other salad choice and that didn't have lettuce). The pizza we had (tomato and mozzarella with red sauce) was a total disappointment. Brick over doesn't mean scorched end crust (like they needed a fire extinguisher scorched). The tomatoes tasted as if they had been frozen and the mozzarella low grade. The pizza also lacked any seasoning (but so did the salad). We won't be back read more

My brother has been trying to get me to go here for about a year now, and this weekend we finally made it in! We went around 3:45 on a Sunday, which was good because hardly anyone was in there. After hearing so much about the wings, before I had even looked at the menu my mind was set that an order would be perused, We went with an order of 20. Now we just had to agree on a pizza between the 3 of us. Well the waiter helped us on that by telling us you can order a half of any kind of the pizza they offer even a red and a white. We went with half plain, and half meatball and ricotta. The wings were delicious, they were covered with caramelized onions and the wings itself were on top of some focaccia bread. I believe they cooked the wings in Each bite i placed some onions on my wings for that extra flavor. I have never tasted wings so good! Even the bread that soaked up all the juices were delicious. I think we ate about 5 each because we didn't want to ruin our appetite for the pizza. The meatball half was covered with mini meatballs, I mean each slice could of had 15-20 mini meatballs on it, it was awesome with every bite you got some meatball. The plain was very good as well. Their pizza is thin and crispy. As the signs all over say mind you the Pizza will be cooked well done, so expect the crust to be black and crispy. Anthony's Coal Fired you have made a new fan out of me, the wife and I will be back! The only downfall was their craft beer selection. Honestly would probably give this place a 2.5 but since I love the decor I'll bump it up to 3. I like the old black and white photos on the walls. (And the pictures of Clooney, Pitt, and Depp in the bathroom!) They have signs up around the restaurant saying WARNING: PIZZA IS WELL DONE! In other words... your pizza will be burnt to a crisp. Not really my thing, yet surprisingly yummy. It's thin crust so burning it is probably a good thing. Nobody wants to eat a limp, flaccid piece of pizza. You heard me. They don't have fountain soda which is strange to me. They give you a bottle. I had a lunch pizza (the one with the sausage and peppers and ricotta cheese) It was described to me as "really spicy" but it really was not spicy at all. Pleasantly surprised... I had heard and read some negative things, but found none of them to be true. I ended up coming to Anthony's after a disastrous experience trying to get served add another Radnor pizza spot. We were seated right away, with no wait. Our server was fast and pleasant. We had three different pizzas, as well as meatballs. All were very good. The ingredients seemed very fresh. All of the food came out piping hot. Pizza toppings were generous. I was also pleased to find out that they have a good selection of craft beer. I'm sure to return. read more

Meatballs were really good - especially the gravy and ricotta cheese for dipping the focaccia. As always, the wings were spectacular and filling with the carmelized onions and more bread. Finally, we split a salad with tuna that was also right on. Normally, I think of Anthony's as noisy, but maybe that is just me preferring to stuff my face and watch the Phils, at the expense of my lucky dining mates. However, tonight I had dinner with a dear old friend and we were able talk enough to pretty much map out the next 20 years of our lives. Ok so to start we ordered takeout and got 2 pizzas and an order of wings. 1 pizza was cheese, the other was some sort of meat lovers I forget the name of the pizza. Wings were just a regular sized order. To start both pizzas were burnt on the bottom and crust, taste was not very good but edible. Wings were abysmal and when i say abysmal i mean it. Completely chard and burnt on one side with only light charing on the other. This charing made the wings almost inedible, the sauce was fine but flakes of chard wing kept appearing and ruining the flavor. I don't know how a pizza place fails to make the bread and butter of pizza places but what I do know is that there are far better pizza places to spend your money in. A small pizza spot located in a tiny strip mall in Wayne. As out of towners, we found this place on Yelp and decided to stop in after visiting our son at Villanova. It was still a warm day so we sat outside on the patio and enjoyed a crispy, cheesy pizza and some wine. We tried the Fresh Mozzarella Sliced Tomato & Basil, and it just seemed like it was lacking flavor. This was also really bad leftover :( We also got a pepperoni, and I was really happy with how many pepperonis were on it, and it was definitely good pizza just not great. Ordered online from their website on a Friday night. Tip is if you're ordering place your order like your picking up 15 min before your actual pick up time because this place is BUSY for pick up. Had to wait an extra 20 minutes, but everyone was super pleasant and I think they where able to tell I was a bit annoyed because they gave me free cannolis. Great service just super busy but that's a good problem to have during these times. Food is sooo good specially the wings. read more

Went with my four year old daughter for an earlyish dinner on a Saturday night in early fall, and really enjoyed it. I had always heard great things, and we were excited to check it out. Solid beer list, and both our server and the trainee he had with him were super attentive, knowledgeable, friendly and professional. My daughter loved her pizza, and I thought it was excellent as well. I went with an order of wings, which came highly recommended and were big and meaty. They are served dry, in the traditional "Italian/rustic" style, so they aren't usual wings and they probably aren't going to be for everyone. Prices were good, we will totally be back. I didn't come here for the wings, but that's one of the top reasons to go back. I had passed this place a few times before, never enticed to go in. I went when a friend and I were turned away from another place because someone had put their car into a power pole and knocked out the electricity. This unfortunate turn caused me to find a new favorite spot for small bits of chicken cooked over a beautiful bed of charcoal instead of being boiled in oil. The result was simple and fantastic. Loved the flavor and texture. Really brilliant. I said I didn't come here for the wings, and that was true. Our detour from the previous target had us settling for pizza, and the pizza here turned out to be another reason to return later. Good ingredients, well prepared over coals: excellent pizza in a crowded market. But it was the good service that turned us on for the wings. Since we confessed to the server that we had never frequented this place before, she offered to bring us each a couple of wings to try one the house. That turned into a subsequent dozen. I was told later by another friend that as food as those were, there's an even better recipe on offer at Anthony's. So yes, I'll be back. I went here for a business lunch this past week and had a great experience. We arrived at the heart of the lunch rush, and yet the service was very quick and friendly. I think we were all shocked at how fast the food came out, but they were firing on all cylinders! I didn't have pizza (surprise! considering where we were), but I had just had pizza the night before so I needed to eat something different. The other two folks DID have the pizza and they were both very happy with it. I had a coal-fired chicken sandwich... which was just amazing. Everything from the caramelized onions to the arugula... was very tasty! I enjoyed a couple of cold draft beers while I was there too - why not? Chicken wings with house dry rub had good flavor but almost completely ruined by extreme oversalting. Sausage and roasted pepper sandwich delicious. However, had asked for meatball sandwich. Prosciutto sandwich not much to speak of as far as flavor. One thin prosciutto slice weighed down with a forest of arugula. Pita-like bread was chewy, which I liked. I've always enjoyed coming to Anthony's. Sometimes I feel as though it can be a bit crowded and that leads to slower service/ longer wait for food, but everything always tastes great. Well...I was a regular here for about six years, and every time I come here, I am greeted with friendly service and delicious food. The best wings I've ever had, and the pizza is amazing, especially the Philly cheesesteak and the Margherita. Great for takeout too. Even when they're crowded, and it gets REALLY crowded at lunch hour and especially for dinner, I am never disappointed. But recently, there's been an unfortunate decline. Not in the food, but service-wise is another story. Although most of the servers are very friendly and helpful (99% of them), there is one particular waitress who consistently gave our table poor service our last two visits. The first time, she messed up our order, but we didn't want to argue and we just wanted to enjoy a lunch that ended up lasting over an hour because they had to remake the pizzas a bunch of times. But it was okay. My fam and I went in the other day and were greeted with the same waitress. But it was fine. No big deal. Until we were seated and she proceeded to bring up the fact that she messed up our order last time in a really derogatory way, as if WE had been at fault for it. Spewing things like "Oh, it wasn't MY fault. You guys got lucky, you got more pizza than you ordered! What do you want me to do, tell the kitchen NOT to mess up the order this time?" We were really confused and a little angry about how we were being treated. She had no reason to rehash the whole thing and ruin our whole vibe. It was clear there was no dealing with her, so we asked the manager to give us a different waitress, who was very friendly and quick and apologized repeatedly for what had happened. It's a small overpriced menu, but incredible food! The crust is well done, coal ovens cook at very high heat so all the pizzas are served a bit burnt. We ordered 3 things from the menu. The Meatballs & Ricotta Pizza, the little meatballs are so tasty the sauce was amazing. Plain pizza, Grande Mozzarella, Italian Plum Tomatoes, Romano Cheese, Basil and Olive Oil. Pizza simple and delicious And an amazing Italian Tuna Salad Sandwich (Tuna salad Lemon, Olive Oil, Tomato & Arugula served on Focaccia Bread). We waited about half an hour for a table, they don't have an adequate waiting area. The service was very nice, quick and friendly. They do serve liquor, my martini was good. I am a huge Anthony's fan. I was one of the first servers at this location when the store opened in the early 2010s. What makes the food so good is the simplicity of the food and the quality of the ingredients. I know how it was made because I worked there, and was very proud. Wings and salad have always been my favorite, but everything is so good (best meatballs in the world). I was happy to order takeout tonight from my old place, as I was in the area. I ordered eggplant marino for my husband, the Italian salad with Gorgonzola, and wings. The garlic Parmesan wings are new to me, so I tried them along with the original. When I got it home, I was disgusted. First, the wings lacked the pop of flavor they used to have. Dead flavor. And they now got served in a puddle of dreck. What is this? It looks like S.O.S. The focaccia was dry and salty. The salad dressing is what made the salad so good. Olive oil, red wine vinegar, garlic, and seasoning. This dressing was nothing. Tasteless. My husband said he thought it was in his mind, but the eggplant marino and the salad tasted wrong. I'm so very sad that this has happened to my Anthony's. They say that sex and pizza are alike in that even when it's bad -- it's good. Yeah, this is totally incorrect. There's the floppy garbage you eat when you're drunk and just don't care what you eat as long as it's made of carbs and then, there's transcendental, fire-kissed pies with real ingredients that would make a Neapolitan weep with happiness. I think we all know which category Anthony's falls into. If you think Domino's makes a good pie -- just stop right now. Seriously, put down the artery-clogging stodge and try something better. Usually, I'm not a fan of thin-crust pies. Primarily because my experience with them has been less pizza and more pizza ingredients on matzoh but Anthony's has the consistency down to an art form - not too thick, not too thin and all delicious. Their plain pie is great -- an even balance of mozzarella and good sauce that actually tastes of tomatoes -- but their specialty pies are worth seeking out. Their fresh mozzarella, tomato and basil pie is a great take on the Caprese salad but the best thing on the menu has to be the Eggplant Marino pizza. And no, I'm not just saying that because I'm a Dolphins fan and would eat an old shoe if Dan Marino's name was on it. It's a really good pizza -- the best qualities of eggplant parmesan and pizza without the heaviness of the former dish. Sprinkle a little crushed red pepper on that thing and we're talking pizza perfection. And I should know. I've been fueled by pizza since childhood. Although I've never eaten them myself, I've heard nothing but raves about the chicken wings. These aren't your fifty cent wings laden with tangy Buffalo sauce. These are coal-roasted with herbs and served underneath a heap of butter-soft caramelized onions. The pies are definitely Main Line (a large specialty pie will run you approximately $20) but good food is worth good money and at Anthony's, you're definitely eating well. read more

First let me start off by saying the white pizza is absolutely amazing and perfect for somebody like me who has problems with tomato-based sauces. The pizza was great, but the real hero here has to be there meatballs! Wow, Who would've thought that a pizza joint would have amazing meatballs, I'm not kidding they are delicious. On a cold Saturday night, the stars shining through the chilly air, we were ordering a take-out pizza, something to warm a night in anticipation of a subsequent movie at home. We were warned of a 45 minute wait for pick-up, and the pizza was hot and timely turned over to us as soon as the identifying name was revealed on the 45th minute. The pizza, a large, with caramelized onions (perfectly done), mushrooms (seemed like canned) and calamata olives (as good as can be expected), on a thin crust (crust expected to be more crispier), however getting steamed in it's own heat in the box may have made it more soft, was above average. I will try to order and eat in house next time to give a fair evaluation. The staff was very courteous, the check-out process swift, the energy of the restaurant as we strolled in and out in a few minutes was effervescent. Nice place to get a decent meal. We had the cauliflower pizza, wings, and meatballs in our group of 5. The food came out randomly, and the server forgot the wings. The pizza was okay, not traditional. It wasn't bad but I was not a fan. A little sauce would help it. The meatballs were good, and the sauce they were in was great. However, I don't think they make the meatballs there. They tasted frozen. The wings were the best part. Very well done, and tasty. They were worth the wait. Besides food, they have a full bar and lots of tv screens. Definitely a great place to go hang out if you are watching a game.
