Anthony's has gone down hill. In the past I have enjoyed their shrimp louie salads, but this time it was much smaller than in the past. It was a small handful of iceberg lettuce with an egg and sorry looking asparagus. The shrimp and dressing were good. I questioned our (very good) server about whether they had mistakenly brought a starter rather than entree size. Not so good yesterday. I accept the fact that they were busy but waiting for 30 minutes for a bowl of clam chowder is unacceptably long. When the main course came, which was the seafood platter, the batter was soft and both the onion rings and salmon were underdone. Unbelievably bad service which I will usually put to one side if the food is ok but they failed on this one too. I have eaten here on many previous occasions with no problems. Good food at a good price. Came here with some friends after a day of exploring Point Defiance. The restaurant has a great view of the water. After eating at so many great places in downtown Seattle the day before, perhaps my impressions were a bit skewed. The food here was definitely good but not super great. We had the fish and chips (cod), and the shrimp and crab macaroni and cheese. The fish was nice and tender and the batter not too heavy. I liked the slaw they had on the side and I'm not a huge fan of slaw. The mac and cheese was good as well, nice amount of shrimp and crab mixed in the the cheesy goodness. On a recent visit for a late afternoon lunch, my hubby and I chose to sit on the deck (a beautiful October day). We watched the ferry dock....very close and fun to watch, an otter playing just below us in the water...food was excellent. I had clam linguine, husband had smoked salmon fettuccine, and we shared a green salad. Everything was very good. Our server was friendly, professional, and fun. She had a great sense of humor, knew the menu, and suggested a perfect Pinot Gris to compliment our food. I don't know why we don't go here more often. We've been going here for years, but this was our last time. This is the third time in a row that we waited over an hour for our food. Wait staff is very nice, but the kitchen was slow. I love spending the day at point defiance park, and then going to Anthony's after hanging out in the area. I would suggest reservations during the weekends, even for lunch, as it gets busy. We've gone in a few times without an reservation, and the greeter is REALLY RUDE, she tells us EVERY time that it's a 20-30 minute wait, and my husband looks around and sees that there is NOBODY else waiting in the lobby, and just has a seat and looks at her like REALLY??? Within 3-5 minutes we are usually seated. Once we get past her, the evening usually goes much better. I've never been disappointed with the food, the price is ok, service can be slow on weekends, so kids can get bored, but I don't mind the view, and just hanging out. I love the view and the relaxed environment. It's not a quiet romantic restaurant, and there are usually lots of kids, although I really wouldn't recommend bringing younger kids there. People who complain about the noise, and kids need to evaluate the area, they are the only restaurant in general walking distance in the biggest park in Tacoma, that even has a Zoo, there are going to be lots of families, so if people are looking for that romantic experience they should take the time to go down the water front and find the 21 and over only restaurants, because most of the restaurants in that area are kid friendly. read more

Last min decision on a busy day before father's day dinner. Luckily I called at about 430pm for reservations at 7pm and was successful in getting one in. Showed up at 7pm to a crowded lobby. Thank goodness for planning ahead sorta... Only took a few minutes before we were seated. Compared to the 45 min wait without reservations. We started out with the mussles for an app. The garlic and white wine was very nice. Had some sour dough bread to go with it to dip and it was yummy. Mom ordered the blue plate special ( shrimp scampi) that came with clam chowder, my daughter got the fish and chips and a side of chowder and I got the Cioppino with a cesar salad. I was pleasantly surprised how much seafood they packed in that bowl. First sight it looked like a small bowl of Cioppino but as I kept pulling out mussles and clams I was amazed how much was in there! The broth was very flavorful and the fish was tender. Few pieces of sour dough to go with it and the salad and it was the perfect portion. My daughter is a clam chowder fan and she loved the chowder however she says it slightly trails Dukes chowder for her favorites. Her fish and chips were not good. Our waitress (I wish we got her name) was amazing and so attentive and helped us decide what to get! My grandma got the fish and chips which were the best we've had in awhile & I got the blackened fish tacos which was AMAZING! The only thing that would have made the soup better is if it was in a sourdough bread bowl. My Ahi was good and the rice that came with it had some sort of Cajun spices that were excellent. My portion was smaller than I would have liked though. The mousse dessert was also smaller than prefer, but rich all the same. There's honestly just something perfect about eating at a seafood restaurant that's out on the water on an actual pier. This time, my fiancee went with a salmon bowl and I went with trout. Server Jesse was abrupt & didn't exactly make us feel welcome. The young man passing water, Skyler, ended up being more helpful & chased down bread & Tabasco for us. The food was fine, if spendy. Had no idea salad & soup were separate from the meal or we likely wouldn't have ordered them. Jesse refilled my iced tea from behind me (window seat), which made me feel a bit ooky. Knowing it's post-Covid, leaving tip was difficult. We gave Skyler a separate tip for excellent service, but gave Jesse minimal on an over $200 bill -- with a note that service & attitude could've been better. I've been here a few times so far before writing my reciew to make sure some things weren't just a one time issue. Overall I love this place because of the good fresh seafood and great view. The wait staff is kind but tends to make mistakes and be nervous a lot. Tonight they told my friend that they did not have any more vlam chowder but then brought a bowl out later saying, "the chef says everyone gets a bowl of clam chowder no matter what." Not the exact words, but something along those lines. It was kind of strange, but I'm glad they changed their minds about serving us the chowder. It's worth any extra wait to be able to sit outside; especially on a warm summer night like tonight. You can really feel the energy of nature and water as you enjoy good food. I have been here with my family and friends so many times I've lost track. I have consumed virtually every item on the menu, including dessert and beers and have never once been disappointed. The view is unmatched as is the service. You can enjoy the waterfront spectacle of seals playing or sitting at the food or beverage bar. You must also check out the sinks in the bathrooms very PNW. I have one and only one complaint preventing the coveted 5 stars and that is the inside noise level. I would strongly recommend the owners consult with a specialist and figure out how some acoustic decorations could reduce the sound level. But that is not enough to keep me from returning to the best seafood in the Northwest. read more

Anthony's has consistently good food for the price. I have been coming here for years. So: Pros: food is good and prices are reasonable. Seasonal menu is good. There are always special drinks and desserts with whatever fruit is in season. All you can eat fish and chips on Mondays. And they make awesome fish and chips. Excellent view for a lot cheaper than you normally get one. It's fun to watch the ferries. People tend to eat fairly early there so if you show up after 7.30 it's pretty quick to get a table. The creme brûlée. Cons: It is loud. Always super loud. Sometimes hard to hear your own conversation. But it's that casual atmosphere that probably keeps the prices down. The wine is expensive. If you get a pitcher of the house wine it still feels pretty pricey for what it is. Which is not great. But still usually the best option price wise. The bar is pretty tiny. So if you are waiting for a table it's hard to wait in the bar over a drink (yes, a lot of how I review a restaurant has to do with the drinks!). I think the best way to sum it up is to say that I usually am hesitant to go there, mostly because of the noise and the wine. But then when I go I always enjoy myself and the good food and service. read more

We came on the day before Mother's Day, and while our service was not great, and we waited about 1.5 hours from reservation time to food, I don't want to focus on that because I feel like too much time has passed. What I want to address is the complete lack of knowledge or willingness to help from our waitress regarding food allergies at our table. It's important. And when someone works in the food service industry but doesn't know what DAIRY is, it's really hard placing an order without it turning into a spectacle. Having to voice a dairy allergy and ask someone to accommodate it is already uncomfortable enough, but when you have to over-explain and then worry the whole time that you were maybe not understood, it almost makes going out to eat not worth it. I asked if the bread had milk in it and she said "I don't know, it comes from a package." And that was the final word. I looked at her, waiting for the appropriate response "I will go see if the package has a label on it" but there was nothing. Total silence. Then she said "i doubt it does." I'm sorry but that's not an acceptable answer. Then I asked if the ponzu salmon bowl had any dairy in it, she said "yeah, it has mayo." I explained that mayo was fine and didn't usually have dairy in it. She said "it has eggs." I said "oh that's fine, I can eat eggs." Then she said "I thought you couldn't have dairy." The more I tried to explain this to her, the more I got the feeling that I was being viewed as a pain in the a**, regardless of the fact that I was being very nice about it. I am hoping you can see why we were so upset with our service. Food allergies are becoming more and more common these days and you guys have GOT to be knowledgeable about ingredients. I'm not expecting the waitstaff to know exactly what is in everything but they need to know who to go ask. Please, please teach them. OVERALL: It was okay. I would probably not return. SERVICE: Was acceptable. It was quiet busy. Our waitress, Amanda, was professional and friendly. She made a dessert recommendation which was spot on (see food for details) The runner brought our food as soon as it was up - we were sitting right next to the kitchen - it has an open kitchen so you can watch them prepare the food. FOOD: Was pretty good. We had calamari which was cooked perfectly, it was served battered with a side of ranch. The breading had a kick to it and was quite good. It would have been better if they had a different sauce, something a little more special than ranch. I had the steak, I ordered it medium, it was a bit over done, but that was okay with me. I asked for mashed potatoes instead of fries and that was great choice, it came with green beans, those were not very good and I do like vegetables. My hubby had the Seafood Fest and really seemed to enjoy it. My parents were delighted as well. They ordered the Peach Smear, something like a cobbler, and it was fantastic. It is not five star dining and it is definitely not like Anthony's Pier 66 in case you were thinking they would be on the same level - they are not. PRICE: It is a little pricey but not overly so. It is in my opinion that if they want to charge the 4 star prices they need to step up their game on the food side and put forth a bit more effort to make it better. It was a little bland and nothing special. It could use some salt & pepper at the very least and butter or something savory. ATMOSPHERE: It is right on the water/over the water which is awesome. The decor is fish themed and a little dated but not overly so. It is a very open restaurant which makes it s little on the noisy side, but not so much that you can't hear your party talking. A family favorite for us, perfect for an early dinner after a zoo visit. Always consistent, their tempura is top notch. I like the ling cod and rice dish, menu is smaller than expected and little variance. Had several "date" meals here with my daughter, staff always fawns over her and are gracious and accommodating.
