Eating out is expensive these days. This place is now getting too the price point of near fine dinning. As customer i have the right to expect an experience while having my meal at this place that I have been dinning from day one. Tonight I got that experience just not from my own server. The food was excellent and the service I received from the Anthony's team of fantastic veteran managers and servers was fantastic. Even the GM whose name I dont know took a moment to stop by and say hi. She is always pleasant and welcoming as is her entire team. The Manager Sam did most of my service. He was fantastic as always. He was serving the next table as well. The lady with the little one enjoying his stellar service as much as I enjoy his excellent service. Another server who has been waiting on me for years provided great service as well and her section was across the restaurant. Sam and the waitress from across the restaurant provided the service and the experience I was paying for and greatly enjoy. The server who presented with a bill with their name as server didn't do the job but moving mountains to give great service to his other tables and even making multiple trips to the bar for drinks passing my table next to the bar. There was no way to give the tip to Sam and the other server from across the restaurant. They earned the tip. I did not tip the server whose name was one the bill. He didn't earn it. Will request the servers I know that provide me with great service and the experience that has made me a customer from the beginning. My first impressions is that this restaurant is huge and has a beautiful view. We were actually driven in because of the lovely views we knew this place would offer. Upon arriving, we were seated immediately- it was busy but this place has plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. If you are looking for a view while you dine it, nicely ask the waiter/waitress - they were happy to accommodate us! We went for the Seafood Platter to try a bit of variety - it came with shrimp, fish, calamari and onion rings. We also order the Wild Alaska Halibut 'n Chips, which comes with 2 pieces dipped in light tempura batter. Both dishes also come with a side of what appears to be shredded slaw on a piece of organic looking lettuce. Put some of the fish on top and you'll have a a delicious and healthier wrap! For drinks, we tried one of the house lemonade..you can never go wrong with a lemonade. What was the verdict? If you're a big seafood, fish person or just a person that appreciates fresh food, you will simply LOVE the freshness here! But for $30 for 2 pieces of Wild Alaska Halibut 'n Chips..I feel like they that is a tad bit too much. But I guess you are paying for quality and you do get the lovely views - I think I would recommend trying out this spot whether it's with your friends, family..it's a perfect place to sit back, relax, converse and enjoy a fresh meal with 5-star views! read more

I love being able to walk into a quality restaurant and get seated at a nice table right away. Servers are always so welcoming at Anthony's and don't show any sort of fuss when any one in my party (looking at you grandma!) is acting extra. I ate my whole Hawaiian Cobb salad. Was so excited about it I showed my husband pictures when I got home. Perfect mango pieces, just right ripe avocado, not over or underdressed. Yum, yum! Some French fries wandered over to my plate and those were crispy, tasty as well. Feeling generous I asked for a to-go white chocolate cheesecake dessert. My husband must have really liked it because he didn't share this peace offering with me at all when I got home. Anthony's is a dependable staple. You know we'll return! read more

Came here as we were visiting my girlfriend's family and they wanted to have a nice, outdoor lunch on the waterfront. Ordered three things: (1) Caesar salad with shrimp, (2) cup of clam chowder, and (3) halibut fish and chips. Caesar salad was super fresh and came with a decent amount of shrimp and a lot of salad. Clam chowder was not quite Pike Place Chowder-level, but it was pretty damn good. Halibut fish and chips were a bit smaller than I expected, but the batter was light and the fish was fresh as well. Overall, the food here was solid. Service was solid, no complaints here. There is WiFi here, but it was hard to connect to it from our location on the outside patio. Overall, Anthony's is a solid choice if you want a good meal on the Tacoma waterfront. read more

we've been here before when my husband was a travel nurse in tacoma in 2022, and recently we were back in the area for a wedding and decided to stop by again. we went on a tuesday afternoon and sat outside. it was pretty empty, one other table near us outside and a handful inside. our server was nice, and the other staff was nice as well. service just seemed slow, for an unbusy weekday meal... i got a bowl of clam chowder, my kid got buttered noodles, and my husband got fish and chips... plus one alcoholic beverage and one peach lemonade, and "cheese curds" appetizer (which, as a midwesterner i wouldn't even call the cubed/breaded/fried/served with sweet chili sauce cheese curds. but i digress...) our total after a tip was over $100. i've honestly had better chowder at the ferry (no kidding, just had it two days ago and it was worlds better) and the fish and chips weren't anything to write home about. i think what upset me most is that my kids buttered noodles were kind of crispy in some places? i just feel like for the prices, there would've been better presentation of the food or even just updated ambiance. it was very dated inside. probably wouldn't go back just because there are so many other options for the same things around the area. read more

We ate: -crab artichoke dip--- While the flavor was good, there wasn't a lot of crab meat, and the puddles of grease showed how much butter was incorporated. -cioppino--- Pricey but delicious, every bite was precious. It featured 4 clams, 4 mussles, rock fish, and a little salmon. The sauce/soup base was too salty for our taste. - Salmon burger---The buttered brioche bun was a good vehicle for the generous slab of tender salmon. The sauce on it was very good, but it was also too salty. All in all, it was a good anniversary splurge. Pro tip: They have a sunset menu, so Monday through Friday before 5:30, you can enjoy 3 courses for $29. read more

We ordered 3 bowls of chowder to go. It was super watery and more like a broth instead of like a chowder.

We come here often, but yesterday's visit was well below par. We were seated rather quickly, but then things got very frustrating. We were a party of five and placed our order and then waited, and waited, and waited some more. The service was slow, but granted they were fairly busy. The food was luke warm upon arrival and was just not that good, with the exception of the clams. Y'all need to step up your game. It was my sons 18th birthday and he wanted seafood. Like a good Tacoma native I suggested Anthony's then went to Yelp to find the phone number to see if they did reservations. (THEY DO NOT.) We walked in and there's no sign that says wait to be seated and not a greeter in site. Some one showed up quickly and took us straight to a table.... Right next to the open kitchen. I was excited. As some one moderately addicted to competitive reality cooking shows (top chef, master chef, Hell's Kitchen) a front row seat to the action was exactly where I wanted to be. For my dear husband suffering from a headache... not so much. It had standard kitchen noise of clanging pots and pans that was just too much sans ibuprofen. Important to note: even from our kitchen side table it was basically a front row view of the Puget sound. The whole restaurant is practically one big window and our seats were elevated so you could see over the other tables ensuring that even from the "worst" seat in the back you saw the water. Clever designers, bravo. Being by the kitchen I was able to see the interactions of all the wait staff and kitchen staff. They were very professional with each other. Not a whole lot of laughing and joking but no squabbling either. Watching employees fight is the worst. They actually just seemed like professionals. It was nice. I also noticed one of the sous chefs wiping down his station with care and the expeditor washed his hands several times for no apparent reason I saw. It was clean and organized. I saw the plates of everyone come out of the kitchen and nothing looked off. Nothing sat for too long. I was excited to order.... Until I saw the prices. You're basically paying $30 a person at least. To be fair that's getting closer to average. I had clam chowder, smoked salmon fettuccine and 7 Seas ale. Best chowder of my life maybe. And I order chowder a lot. The veg in my entree was maybe a little more leaning towards crudo, but since I HATE them over done it was perfect for me. I didn't remember the menu saying the salmon was smoked but was stoked it was. It was a little old lady that lives in La Push kind of smoked. So good. Husband and daughter ordered fish tacos. Mahi mahi and blackened rock fish. Both were good. And a giant Cesar salad- ok. Birthday boy ordered scallops. Important- he liked his dish and was very pleased. Me? I saw this single dish may be why there was below 4 stars for the restaurant. The scallops were small. The kind of small that says I buy them in bulk frozen. His veg was cooked carrots that crossed the threshold into over cooked by vision. I am not a fan of cooked carrots. I refused to try them. And then there was rice...... I'm Asian. I may judge my rice harsher than others. That being said... the rice was either several hours old or cooked without enough water. It had a kind of firmness and lack of stickiness. And then drizzled on the top was some kind of brown sauce they must have thought was like a teriyaki. It was sweet, soy based, but basically a ginger marinade. Who ever designed that dish maybe forgot scallops are a delicate flavor. Don't overwhelm them with ginger. Squishy scallops and squishy carrots also bad combo. That whole dish needs to be reworked. Birthday boy ate it ALL and was happy, though he told me the rice was "odd" too. Fam ordered apple bread pudding, hot fudge sundae and chocolate mouse for desert. All fantastic. No complaints. And even though it's not a sing and clap kind of franchise, our waitress brought out a candle. She alone is worth 5 stars. Overall would gladly eat here again for my food alone and the wait staff if for nothing else. read more

Went here for my wife's birthday on a Wednesday. Let's start with the big positives. Server? As friendly and attentive as can be. Atmosphere and the view? Great! Even the wait for a table was fun as we got to see a seal or otter poke its head out of the water to say hi. Seafood portion in our dishes? Plentiful!! The food, however, was not perfectly executed. I grabbed the Smoked Salmon Fettuccine. I enjoyed it for the most part (there were some pieces of salmon that were too well done and excessively smokey). I had to use plenty of salt to season it up despite the presence of capers. That's ok, though. It was an elderly crowd on hand for the most part and I too would probably err on the side of under seasoning if that were my main customer base. My wife had the Seafood Mac n' Cheese. I'm not sure how they're making their bechamel, but my wife joking referred to it as a soup during the evening. Additionally, her food was at room temperature when it arrived. I'm wondering if her dish finished well ahead of mine or if the kitchen staff wanted the dish to cool off in hopes that it would thicken. Hopefully that was an execution issue rather than the restaurant standard. Anyway, we needed a better experience for their price point, but it wasn't a horrible experience. read more

Once again we would give Anthony's a 3 star....well I would say more a 3.5 if that were a possibility. This time we got "take out" given COVID, and our social distancing selves. I would not recommend getting "take out" (kind of obvious for this kind of place...) So if you are OK with dining out right now I would dine in! This week is the reateraunt rally and we had gift cards... So that is why we chose to come here. Surprisingly some of the items we thought would be not great for take out (steak and lobster) we're great... While easier items (burger and fish and chips) we're not so much. Overall the service was great, prices are to be expected (way too high for take out), and some of the food was good. All of our fried items were drenched in salt, side salads were lettuce only, and $37 for a small piece of halibut was very dossapointing. The steak and lobster, fish tacos and chowder seemed to be ok. I would appreciate more consistency with the menu items. Again, I would support Anthony's right now with dining in for the real experience and the 4 star they deserve! They have great service, usually amazing meals, and a great atmosphere! We've gone to this Anthony's location a few times and never have we had the extremely poor service that we had today. We came in to celebrate my son's birthday and had made a reservation. We were quickly sat but then waited 15 mins to be greeted and then once we were we ordered right away as we needed to head to his party afterwards. Our waitress said the bread would be out shortly and it never came with 4 hungry kids waiting so I flagged her down and she apologized and then brought the bread. We then waited over an hour for our food and asked what the status was and then they said 10mins. It finally came and she and the manager apologized and said they could give us some free dessert but I told her we couldn't continue to stay longer as we needed to leave for the party. We finally got our check after we asked for it and nothing was comped and no discounts applied. Needless to say, despite the beautiful ambiance of the water we won't be back. read more

Food: The Mahi taco was really good and I will say that the salsa was the bomb! My wife always says a good place is defined by the salsa. I would go back just for that! The crab dip was really good as well, but overall I wasn't floored. It's good food but I like it a little spicier... probably should have asked about that. Atmosphere: Right on the water, sit outside if the weather is nice. It's an awesome place and nice inside without a huge price tag. Price: It's a tad bit expensive, considering fish is so popular here you would think it might be a little less expensive but a normal plate will run you about 20-25$ or more. Add a drink and dessert, now you're looking at close to 50$ per person. So it's not horrible but not as cheap as I would expect. Service: Great service and attentive, but not coming to us every 5 minutes. No complaints about the service. Overall: It's a good place but not sure it's worth the hype. Went on a warm day, and it was a bit too warm for me inside. The restaurant was nice and clean, and the staff was friendly. All of the food was tasty. My mom is very picky about her dried fish, and she thought it was perfect. Nothing special about the food, but everything was cooked well and tasted good. We all had a different lemonade. We came to celebrate our wedding anniversary. They don't accept reservations and it's in a first come first serve basis. It was a pretty day when we came, and there was options to sit inside or outside. We were told the wait for outside was about 30 minutes and the way inside was about 15 minutes. We decided to sit inside. And we were told oh OK I can get you in 10 minutes. We ended up waiting closer to 30 minutes. Not a big deal, but I think if you're telling guests that they are going to only wait a certain amount of time, it is good to have a little bit more accuracy. Good location on the water, however the restaurant itself is a little on the rundown side. There are a lot of flies in the restaurant which is a little off putting. However, the service was decent. We saw many different people during our dinner. The person that took our order (our server), other people brought out our food, and a few different bus boys. The food was good. I ate the smoked salmon Fettuchini, and I would go back just for that dish. My daughter had the kids Fettuchini with side salad (a generous portion) and my husband had the fish and chips. I saved room for dessert and got the shortcake. It took forever to get so we thought they were making it fresh, but when we got it, it was cold and tasted kind of stale. Overall would come back again, but my husband and I agreed that the service and ambience at this specific Anthony's is not like the others we have experienced. read more

I had a very bad experience a couple of months ago at Anthony's. Eventually, Link, the GM asked me to reconsider and urged me to go there one more time. This time, everything was so wonderful. We had a server named Melanie who was cheerful and bright and always had a smile for us. The food was out of this world, it came in a timely manner and the decor was new and clever with salmon lights. I would recommend Anthony's at Point Defiance to anyone. In a world where it's hard to find a good restaurant, prompt service, great food, good atmosphere and view with reasonable prices, these can all be found at Anthony's. read more

Second visit here not okay. First, I'll take the fall for failing to check their hours, but not open until 1pm on a Saturday really? We waited in line outside with about a dozen other's for a 1/2 hour. When the doors were opened we were greeted by two surly receptionists. Not a great beginning for a late lunch. We might have been a bit hungry but we were not hangry. At our request we were seated outside on the deck and thing's started clicking as they should. The waitperson didn't complain about four separate checks (not my idea I know better) for a party of eight. Adult beverages were delivered in short order followed by mediocre lunch entrée's. I am sorry, but the waitstaff just did not seem to want to be there and it showed. Just okay food, sullen staff and mediocre fare just doesn't rate okay in my book. I'm not typically a fan of chain restaurants, even local ones, but this location of Anthony's really does a great job. First, this is hands down the best view in Tacoma - especially in the summer. The patio is HUGE and every table had a spectacular view. Second, the service is really good. We've been 5-6 times in the past year, and service has been great every time. They are friendly, efficient, and helpful. Lastly, the food is always good too. I really appreciate that Anthony's actually features local seafood. I really enjoy the salmon bowl that comes with rice and salad and a lovely Asian sauce. The fried fish sandwich is super good, and the chowder is always tasty too! They also have the best kids menu around. The salmon portion on the kids menu is huge! Plus potatoes, we always get at least two meals out of it.
