This place is amazing! Perfect for a weekend brunch! They have a good variety food/drink menu - almost too many good things to choose from lol - and other Greek/Mediterranean product in the store. For my brunch, I had the avocado toast and the Anthos House Salad (added chicken), both are amazing! The salad had sautéed cremini and oyster mushrooms in it, also came with their special apple molasses dressing, amazing! Avocado toast is smaller than I thought for $10 but it's delicious. We've heard such good things about this place so we decided it was time to try. When you arrive, you order at the counter then find a table. They request you don't hold tables until you order. The place was packed! I got the Mediterranean eggs Benedict and my husband got the croque madame a la grecque. We also got a mini baguette because the bread selection was irresistible. Both meals were delicious and there was ample. We didn't go home with leftovers but we were full after. We can't wait to go back and sample all the bread! Visited today for the first time. We loved the coffee and pastries we had last year while in Greece, so I was excited To try this place. I had no idea it was here and now am glad it's so close to work. First impressions are fresh, clean and new. The place was immaculate and had a nice vibe. The interior was well laid out and cleverly decorated. I was quickly greeted. I opted for the traditional Greek/Turkish coffee that I loved so much while visiting Greece and the koulouri. The koulouri was new to me. To explain it would be shaped like a very large, but thin bagel with sesame seeds. I was pleasantly surprised that it was not as dense as a bagel but was fresh, chewy and delicious. As I sat gnashing on the koulouri and waiting my coffee, one of the folks came over and gave me a small container of Greek honey and suggested I dip the koulouri in the honey as a special treat. That put it over the top, delicious. The breads looked amazing as did all the pastries. I did order two pastries to take home with me. I did snag a quick bite of each before leaving and they were phenomenal. My wife lives almond croissants, so I selected one of those to take home. As I said, I snuck a taste and it was one of the best almond croissants that I've ever had. Fresh, flaky and delicious. The second pastry was apricot, it was very good as well. As I sat enjoying my coffee and breakfast I took on the sights of all the passing food, it looked very good. The place was bustling with couples having breakfast, families grabbing a bite and food simply enjoying coffee while working on laptops. It was bright and inviting inside. Oh my goodness did not think I would hit an absolute home run with my first non fast food / primantis restraunt after my move to the steel city! Anthos, Anthos, Anthos it has it all, great ambiance, friendly staff, great food and yes it comes at a higher price tag but you get what you pay for! Now I'll tell you what, this is a teetering five star review it almost struck a 4 but the intangibles lifted it up to the additional star. For me I got a burger with fries - the burger is everything you would expect from a $17 burger - when I tell you I could taste the mediterainian I'm not kidding you, wow! Now for the fries, the fries nearly docked it a star, they were just not fried enough maybe, I don't know it was the only thing we fully left. I got a cappuccino as well it came in a cup less than 8 Oz and that is enough to buy me over! If the cappuccino comes in a bowl you could eat cereal out of then it's not a good cappucino, and luckily that was not the case here at Anthos - you can tell the barista is skilled in the art of coffee and flavors! Now for me lady - she got the hot chocolate, rich, creamy, heavenly - and for the main course a breakfast sandwiche with bacon, honeslty after a bite this was just above middle of the road needed to dip it in ketchup, the standard for breakfast sandy would be the flavor expels the need for ketchup! But otherwise a very solid sandy! For 'desert' if you can call it that at 10:30 am LOL the chocolate croissant - and they hit this one on the head as well, very good transported me to a European cafe 10/10 would recommend. Now as I conclude this up and down review I leave you the reader with 5 stars, the ambiance and life at Anthos pushes this over the top, I would recommend to any train rider passing by! My wife and I had lunch here today. We were lucky to get a table the restaurant was filled with happy customers. The staff is friendly efficient and the food excellent! You order at the cash register pay for your order and then place a number on your table . A server delivers your order to you. We saw families with children, college students and seniors - the restaurant appealed to all . I tried the Greek entrée Moussaka which is baked eggplant beef with cheese it was outstanding . My wife ordered a salad, it was fresh and delicious. The restaurant has its own bakery so we picked up a loaf of olive bread to have with dinner tonight. I have been to Anthos a few times since my first five-star review and, after having breakfast there today, I am happy to report that it maintains its five-star review. While I only ordered "eggs your way," I took home monkey bread and a cardamom and cinnamon bun. The monkey bread, an originally Hungarian treat, was PHENOMENAL. Unfortunately after we ordered they came over to our table to tell us they were out of the eggplant dip (which was the main reason we chose that) so we switched to the Greek Salad. This place is great. Authentic Greek food options that are very fresh and tasty. The atmosphere is super trendy and cute, loved that. Also very clean. The service was as fast as it could be (considering it was extremely busy) but they handled it well and kept things moving. Self-Seating looks intimidating when you enter but there's a good rotation as the ordering line moves. The Freeda Cappuccino was noticeably different than your average coffee shop and tasted authentic, which is a weird way to describe coffee but when you taste it you'll understand. Located in downtown Castle Shannon, I finally got the chance to stop by when in the area. I would describe it for those familiar with the local Mediterra Bakery and Cafe chain as the Greek version. It's gorgeous and modern. There are a couple of tables with one side booth seating, the rest are either 2 or 4 seat tables plus stools at one end of the counter. There's a back patio with umbrella tables. It was a mostly full dining area during my visit on a Friday in August. They had their garage door style walls open allowing in the most pleasant breeze. Though being right at the heart of town intersection isn't ideal with train and auto traffic noise and exhaust. I scored a parking space right out front on the other side which is a 2 hour limit Mon-Sat between 9-6. There's more public parking spaces at the end of the block on Willow Ave (look for the little green letter P icon to the one-way entrance). I went before 11 o'clock and ordered from the breakfast menu. You order at the counter, they give you a number, and you seat yourself wherever available. There were several customers getting to-go orders as well. The staff were all courteous. If within the vicinity, I highly recommend checking out this eatery. read more

Anthos is such a quaint restaurant and we truly enjoyed it! It is located right off of Castle Shannon boulevard on willow avenue. You do have to either park on the street or in the parking lot down the road but it was no issue. The atmosphere is bright and cheery and truly feels like you're in a cafe in Greece. There is not only food and bakery items but also other items such as olive oil. The staff and owners are all very nice, welcoming and very knowledgeable about the menu. It is not your traditional sit down restaurant - you actually go to the counter to place your order and they give you a number and bring you the food when it is ready. We ordered the Eggs Benedict, breakfast sandwich and traditional Greek frappes. We also ordered the olive bread to go but we ended up eating it as an appetizer when while we waited and it was fantastic. I've never had fresher bread. When the entrees came, we were blown away. They were not just traditional breakfast style foods, there was a Greek twist on each one which made it unique and delicious. We will definitely be back for dinner very soon! read more

This restaurant is new and there is always room for improvement. So I'm trying to be fair, but just want to get my experience out there. First off the BREAD is EXCELLENT! Everything is freshly baked. It tastes as good as it looks. The brioche was soft and buttery. The side of toast was perfectly grilled. The decor of the restaurant is clean and modern. Now the places that need improvement: - wait time - food quality (besides the bread) - noise Sunday morning we ordered an Egg Sandwich and Eggs Your Way. There were two couples who ordered after us, similar items, and they both received their food first. We waited around 30 mins from the time we ordered. Their restaurant wasn't very busy when we came in. My breakfast sandwich, while very IG worthy, was was also very one note in flavor. Missing any type of seasoning. They also didn't include the cheese or side salad like the other yelp photos. The most frustrating part was the noise level. The room amplifies sound and the music volume was way too high for a small space. By the end of eating, noise was pretty unbearable, especially after waiting 30 min for our food, and we were unable to have a decent conversation. Adding a menu up front as well as relocating the coffee condiments will create a better flow of customer traffic and less of a bottle neck near the registers A few small changes will definitely improve the space! What an addition to the neighborhood! Anthos is an authentic Greek bakery and coffee shop located right in Castle Shannon off the T line against ice castle. Anthos has a beautiful and modern interior with plenty of seating and Greek decor and design which makes sense given the owners came to Pittsburgh from Athens. Everything is handmade and obviously very cared for. After visiting Greece a few summers ago, the coffees match the coffee from Greece and there's a lot of passion in making each one. Servings are nice sized and it's comfy to sit in and relax. The Greek salad was very large with Plenty of each ingredient and delicious olive oil. You can tell the ingredients are carefully selected and imported for an authentic feel. The salad comes with a piece of bread perfect for dipping in the extra olive oil at the bottom of the bowl. The bread bowl had 5 fresh pieces of bread and for two people, we couldn't get near making a dent in the basket. The jams and honey provided is all imported and tastes perfect with each piece of bread. The freshness really stands ahead of the other bakery/cafes in the area. You know, the kind when the brain damaged teen pulls up beside you at the light. Not very relaxing, and it unfortunately did not start until after we ordered and started eating. (this occurred on 9/21/2024). The food was very high priced and not exceptional. The lemon rice soup was very disappointing.
