Called in regards to upgrading my lawn mower that was having issues and the lady that picked up the phone just flat out told me can't do anything to help me find the right parts and "everything that's in/on the engine is supposed to be there and we won't help you" Very unhelpful I would give them 1 star but I know there is a way for businesses to remove them so I'm giving them a 2 star. Couldn't get through on the phone, and when I did, she couldn't give me a price, and did not appear to be paying attention to what I was saying - same question, same answer multiple times. If it takes 10 days for what a qualified mechanic can do in perhaps 30 minutes or an hour if they have trouble, then this is not the place for me. read more

Our 12 year old Simplicity snow thrower was getting harder and harder to start. I called Antioch Small Engine Repair to pick up my machine and figure out what was wrong. I was pretty sure it needed a carb rebuild but it was not the problem. Greg picked it up and called me a few days later to tell me my head caster was blown. His estimate for repair was no more than for the carb problem and he repaired it in another week or so. Fast forward two months later, and it was time to start it and try it out for the first time due to very late snowfall. I primed it, set the choke and on the first pull it started and ran flawlessly. These folks are authorized repair for Greenworks battery-operated power tools and they know the equipment very well. Not only can they diagnose and fix weird problems, they have a relationship with the manufacturer so if something really big is wrong and can't be fixed, they'll go to bat for you so you get the replacement you're owed. Definitely the shop you want to use to trouble-shoot and fix these next-gen tools. They're also really nice down-to-earth people. read more

just got off the phone with the sales girl... not greg, the owner..... I told her i had a small 6.6 horsepower motor... a predator 224... A VERY VERY COMMON SMALL MOTOR.... sold locally by harbour freight, home depot, menards. etc... i explained the motor starts easily, runs for 30 seconds and then stops.... i could tell by her voice she didn't want to deal with it.. she said she would have to speak to greg.... came back on the line, and said "we can't get parts for that"... i replied... it's common motor... parts are AVAILABLE... didn't do any good.... in future, i will never call these people... and that's the truth.... read more

Took our lawnmower there a week and a half ago fir tune up. Paid $40 deposit for them to look at it. Husband called today to check status and was informed they will call him when it's ready. Got a call later in the day saying it's broken and they couldn't even get it to start, so he should come pick it up. He brought it home and it was covered in cobwebs, leading me to think no one looked at it. Husband got it to start right away. We're down $40 with nothing to show for it. read more

I purchased a chainsaw at Menards that broke down after a couple months. They told me to take it to Antioch Small Engine Repair for warranty service. Right after walking in their business, I experienced the poor customer service they are known for around here. I left my chainsaw with them and was told I also needed to leave a $20 deposit which would be refunded after they were repaid by the manufacturer. The repair time took about a week longer than the estimate (not a big deal) and the chainsaw had been cleaned and was in perfect working condition again. They claimed they hadn't been paid yet and would call when they were able to refund my $20. Six months later and I'm still waiting. They get two stars for the excellent repair, fail to get a star for their customer service and also lose two for keeping my deposit. If I need a repair again, I would look around for other options until I hear their CS has improved. read more

I've taken numerous pieces of equipment here the last several years, chainsaws (various manufacturers), lawnmowers, sit down mowers and snow blowers, and have been thrilled each and every time. I've seen quite a few threads complaining their prices are high on new items. Why does this surprise anyone? The name of the business is "Small Engine Repair". They do repairs and they do it very, very well. Complaining that their prices on new equipment are too high is like yelling at the car wash owner because his/her prices on wiper blades is too high. They can repair, maintenance, tune and sharpen about anything. You purchase something at Menard's or Wal-Mart, it breaks and these are the folks that end up fixing it. In fact, they do repair work for many larger commercial stores like Home Depot. To be in business for over 20 years you have to be doing something right. And they do Small Engine Repair, and a bunch of other things right. read more

Update to repair- had to bring back as the repair was not completed properly. They did get to it that day and got the tractor back to me. The lady there is pleasant and helpful as are the guys who work on the equipment, the owner however is unpleasant and rude. Will not go back. read more

Its like they are trying to steal from you! This place is so overpriced it is unbelievable. Tried to tell me that my log splitter needed all new hydraulic system wanted over $500. Turns out, it was a $25 gasket. Not sure how they missed that! Would never go back and would not recommend to anybody. Don't waste your time with antioch small engine. Both times I went there they charged a $30 deposit to tell me I needed a new carb for $275. Both times after declining repairs and bringing to another shop it was running great and out the door for $60. I felt sorry for the employees there as they seemed ok and just said they can't help answer any questions. I have dealt with them 3 times over the last 2 years and I am surprised they are still in business. Each time I dealt with greg or Tina the owners and they were basically rude and not easy to deal with. We had the worst experience. When we called we were told that it is $30 to quote for repair on our riding tractor. Their website says 24 hrs., they told us 7-10 days. They made us sign to approve for $200 in repairs which we did not want to do, but the woman said they wouldn't accept the mower unless we did that. We were emphatic that we wanted a quote first before any work was done because we did not want to spend more than $30 to see what was wrong. We already knew it needed a new battery and the mechanism to raise and lower the deck. We could get it running, but the PTO wouldn't engage. They called us after 10 days and told us they took out the carburetor and cleaned it and that it needs a new one for $500. I reminded them we wanted a quote before any work was done. They said they were going to charge us for 1.5 hrs. of labor and they also put in a fuel filter that we didn't ask for. We told them we didn't want to spend more than $200 to have it completely fixed. We immediately went to pick it up and they insisted they wouldn't release it unless we paid the balance in cash. This is one of the worst scams I have seen. He did tell me he could scrap it for us if we didn't want to take it back. read more
