Amazing hospitality from the team at Antoya. Constantly checking in on our table, refilling our ban Chan, cooking our meat, etc. I love that they cook the meat for you so it's perfect and you don't have to worry about under or overcooking. We opted for the beef platter which was perfect for 2 (my boyfriend ate about 2/3 and I ate 1/3). Meat is tender and fresh, no complaints. They give a wonderful assortment of ban chan, but it changes due to availability/season I believe. I wish there was more consistency in the ban Chan, but not a huge issue. Came here today (Friday night at 6:45pm) where we made reservations for a table of 5. We got seated as we arrived, greeted by a man in a suit who opened the door for us. Nice gesture. Couldn't wait to have a nice meal- I've been craving Korean food for the longest. Fast forward to around 8:10pm, as I was still eating, we were being rushed because the bill was given to us (which basically meant, hurry because there were people waiting for a table). I was really disappointed by this because if you see me still eating, don't be rude and hand me the bill and then tell me I have 6-7 minutes to pay the bill?! You want to sound apologetic, but give me a time frame to pay the bill and get out? This was probably the quickest meal that I've had at a Korean barbecue restaurant. I had the pleasure of dining in the yet to be fully opened omakase bar on 2nd floor. It was just recently renovated and will be open to general public soon. The quality of the food, service, and attention to detail are unmatched on 32nd St. (or frankly anywhere in Manhattan). This was more than enough food for us as the banchans also filled us up. There are even pancakes in the banchans, so good thing we didn't order that separately. I think because it was grilled beforehand, it became cold. I was surprised that we were given 4 small sized lettuce leaves (to be used to wrap the samgyupsal). I have always passed by this place, but never tried the food. Recently I came here + the food was good. We ordered to share: seafood pancake, samgyupsal and galbi tang. My most favorite was the galbi tang + the complimentary tapas. The galbi tang was so flavorful and delicious - my only complaint is that the soup was not piping hot (it was lukewarm and then became room temperature). I was not a big fan of the seafood pancake because it was overfried - it was very crispy with a lot of seafood on it, but it was no longer fragrant as it was overfried. The samgyupsal was good esp w/ the condiments (the lettuce leaves, sauce, etc) but because we were a party of 2 we did not sit on the BBQ grill area so the meat was cold. Also, they did not give us enough lettuce leaf which I also found odd. Those "complimentary" tapas they give you were the best and were super delicious! I wanted to give it a try again now that it has been renamed Antoya Korean BBQ and awarded a Michelin Bib Gourmand for good quality at a good value. We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday on Sunday. We were a party of 7 so we were able to try a little bit of everything on the menu. Banchan (Small Side Dishes) - If you are new to Korean BBQ, you are given a variety of complimentary side dishes. I loved the variety of banchan at Antoya - kimchi, sesame tofu, spinach, and so on. I was most surprised by the kimchi pancakes included in the banchan set. You can always ask for additional banchan when you finish and it is included in your meal! Gyeran Jjim with Truffle (Egg Souffle with Truffle) - This appetizer was very decadent with the addition of truffle to perfectly fluffy eggs. Highly recommend! Beoset Japchae - This was decent and portions were good to share with the table. Truffle Yukhoe (Beef Tartare with Truffle) - This appetizer was a little disappointing to me because how of overly peppery the beef tartare. It overpowered my whole palette and took away from the experience of the black truffle. Antoya Pajeon with Seafood (Korean Pancakes) - This appetizer was also good - not too dense and had lots of seafood throughout. Another good dish to share with the table. Dak Nalgae Twigim (Korean Fried Chicken Wings) - We had ordered half and half (half soy garlic and half chili). This was a miss and I would skip this. Galbi Tang (Brisket Soup with Beef Short Ribs) - This was perfect if you are craving some soup. Modeum So Gui (Assorted Beef Platter for 2) - This set came with prime rib eye, sliced prime short ribs, and marinated cube prime short rib. I did enjoy each cut and the prime rib eye was nicely cooked. Highly recommend! Modeum Dweji Gui (Assorted Pork Platter for 2) - This set came with pork belly, pork jowl, and marinated pork shoulder steak. Some of the pork cuts were a bit overcooked as it got busy. But overall, I like the pork jowl and marinated pork shoulder steak. Shoutout to Ryan who was handling 5-6 tables, most with large parties of 6+ by himself, which meant he had to cook all the meats, take orders, and so on. He was super friendly. I just wished there was another server to help out as some of our meats were overcooked and water refills were slow. We also reminded them several times to clear our table and bring the cake. However, they did make up for it by bringing out the cake with a huge sparkler, which made it a great surprise for my friend. They do charge a cake fee of $3 per person. After not having a great experience down the street at another Korean bbq spot, we decided to come here and have zero regrets. We were seated immediately, and within 2 mins of being seated, our server came over to introduce herself and provide us with water. The food came out in no time and we had several people offer to cook it for us, we declined but they were so attentive and patient. I do wish there were more seafood options, but the selection was expected at a BBQ spot. My bf enjoyed everything he ordered, he had a beef platter with asparagus and zucchini, that combined with the rice was very filling for us both. Rating is just for the food but this place is def on the pricier side so just know that going in. 105 / 125 for a set of 3 meats that feed two people.... you'll want to order another a la carte if you have a party of 3. That being said everything was tasty and to our liking, but it's hard to beat the places in flushing that do it just as well or not too far of for a dramatically decreased price tag. One standout thing this place does is it gives you a head of roasted garlic for you to take pieces of and eat with your meat and it is DELICIOUS. Everyone else should do this. It's hearty, carby, not like a chewy/stretchy kind of texture. Wasn't chock ful of seafood either but it was crispy and satisfying PORK COMBO They do the jowl really well here; poorly done jowl is really chewy but this was super tender, juicy and delicious. The other pieces were also cooked really well. they handle all the cooking for you so just sit tight and admire it. Lettuce is not a standard here. They of course hook it up with the ssamjang and the sauce and salt to go with the meat. GALBI We also got an a la carte order of galbi to make sure we had enough food and this was the right move (party of 3 guys in our 20s). We grabbed a drink by the bar (standing room only) while we waiting for the last person in our party to arrive. I had the Betty Spritz (Prosecco, orange juice, grapefruit juice, and aprerol). The grapefruit made it a little too bitter. I tried my friend's Hugo Spritz (elderflower syrup, Prosecco, mint, and apple). Mint and apple sounds like a weird combo but it worked. They had this pink pickled cauliflower, and this spicy garlic shoots (?) that was just so good and it was unique - not something I had ever had at any other Korean restaurant. We had: -Japchae - standard, but good. A classic -Egg soufflé - this looked really good but the key word is *looked*. The texture was nice and fluffy but it tasted too smoky (or too much like bonito flakes?) for me -Saewoojang dup bap (marinated raw shrimp with tobiko and ikura) - I'm not sure how I felt about the shrimp but the tobiko was good. This was enough food for the four of us since we had also ordered the other dishes. It was good - the meat was tender, but was it worth the $125 price tag? That I don't know. They cook the meat for you but after that, is pretty much where the service stops. They don't refill banchan or even water unless you ask them to. At one point, the waiter took the empty water pitcher and just never came back until we had to flag someone down. Also something to note, I saw a server drop some serving utensils on the floor and then proceed to put it back into the clean bin... Overall, it was a pretty mediocre experience. I have been back more recently and I'm thinking I was a bit too strict with the 4 star review. Antoya is comfortable and has great service and food. Even the banchan are great quality. This most recent time I really enjoyed the kimchi fried rice. read more
