Ah, Antojitos - some of the best Mexican food on this side of the border! Sometimes locally referred to as the Mexican Dairyqueen (it's in an old dairqueen location) - this place is AWESOME and totally worth a try! As others have mentioned, the chip situation is a little different that most other places. Instead of normal sized chips, they fry the whole small tortilla and let you break it up to whatever size you want. It's different, but the chips are still delicious! You also get 6 types of salsa, ranging from hot to mild. In my opinion, the medium (redish-orange) is the best. The hot salsa (dark red) is smokier, but I actually didn't find it very hot on this trip. I was most recently here for lunch and opted for the 2 sopitos combo, which is about $9. If you have never had a sopito, you haven't lived! It's a thick, fried torilla coved with meat, beans, lettuce, cheese, tomatoes, and onions. I chose the Chorizo and the Adobada for my meats. It also came with a side of rice and beans. The Chorizo was the hit of the table - it's a little spicy, but the little guys at the table were able to eat some no problem! Chorizo anything here is worth a try! Next time, I'd only get the single sopito combo - unless I was planning for leftovers - I didn't even touch the delicious rice and beans on this trip! If you're a red blooded american who loves breakfast burritos (or even if you're not!), these are the best around! Figure about $8 for the burrito that you want, but 2 normal people could split one! They're huge, they're authentic, they're awesome! If you've never been here, give it a try - I doubt you'll be disappointed! read more

We really enjoy coming here for dinner! The staff has always made our experience wonderful and they make the effort to remember repeat customers which makes us feel right at home! As for the food, everything is always delicious! I love that for a vegan/Vegetarian option you can get potato in dishes. I appreciate the creativity instead of loading it with cheese. They have a variety of dishes to offer on the menu that are already veg friendly but they are willing to make adaptations. Hell yea. This is some good Mexican food! Yakima has a pretty big Mexican population and I think half of them were in here. I had enchiladas (see photo). Good choice. Nice shredded beef, shredded cheese and cabbage on top, and a variety of salsas. They were not smothered in sauce. Rice and beans, while so often an afterthought at Americanized places, were actually really good. The tortilla chips were freshly baked and crispy. While I got plenty of food, I didn't leave feeling like I was going to just fall asleep and then wake up and run to the bathroom. There is something less heavy about the food here than I'm used to. Will definitely come back here next time I am in town. read more

When you first sit down you get served a bunch of different salsas to go with your ships! Off to a wonderful start! I got a combo of a burrito and a taco! The food is good, fresh and tasty! Service was good too! I asked for a cup of water to drink for the road and the lady brought out a nice big cup! Very nice of her to give such a big cup! The food was very good. They're a little different from other Mexican restaurants I've been to. For starters, they serve whole small fried corn tortillas which you can then break apart for dipping in a line of salsas served in small containers. All the salsas were very good. My test dish for Mexican restaurants is carne asada. I prefer it made from grilled skirt steak. At this restaurant it looked like it was made from top sirloin pounded very thin and then pan or flat top-fried. Tasty but not what I was looking for. The place was packed when we arrived. My daughter told me this is her favorite Mexican place in Yakima. Apparently, from the crowded restaurant many people agree with her. Despite all the diners, service was both fast and friendly. My wife and I were with my daughter and two of her friends. Everyone enjoyed their dishes. We'll be returning to try out more dishes. read more

Oh Mexican Dairy Queen, how I love you! As mentioned by others, this spot is housed in an Old Dairy Queen Building and it works surprisingly well. We came in with the family after a rousing morning of playing at the park, the place was well worth a visit! Yakima has no shortage of excellent Mexican food, and this is to our great relief as it's been very hard to find good Mexican food in the Midwest for the past 5 years. With our group of 8 adults and 5 kids, there was plenty to try. The sopito is our latest discovery and is likely something that all Mexican restaurants will be graded on in the future when we dine there! The sopita here was very good. It was basically like a Savory Mexican food pie. A pretty thick crispy crust, plenty of different types of meats and actual cheese. The cheese thing is a big deal as nacho cheese is the standard in the Midwest. The enchiladas were delicious as well, though a little bit on the small side. The rice and beans here are absolutely incredible. It's one of the few places that we actually took them home. The chip situation is a bit interesting. It's $0.75 for a basket of Chip's, which consists of fried small corn tortillas they come out looking like flattened hard taco shells. We definitely made do, but it was different than what we had before. The array of sauces that came out range from a delicious mild green sauce all the way up to Devil's sweat. All were very good and went well with our meal that came later! Our niece had dinosaur shaped chicken nuggets and french fries, which I was told were also delicious. All in all, this is an excellent spot to get some delicious south-of-the-border cuisine. Anywhere else this would probably be a five-star place, but there are so many good places in town, that it's hard to give everyone as much credit as they may have had elsewhere. This is our favorite place to go for Mexican food when we visit our in-laws in Yakima. Their tortillas are home-made and so delicious and soft! I always get their tacos, the meat is moist and perfectly seasoned and the rice and beans are soooo good!! Even the sour cream tastes like Sour cream, everything here is so delicious and inexpensive. I especially love the line of salsas that they bring you, they are all excellent. Next time I am going to get what my father-in-law always gets, the Mexican sandwich. Ate here tonight. Awesome! Thankfully they let me order the lunch portion of fish tacos rather than have to get the dinner portion. Was plenty. Brought five or six different kinds of hot sauce (small bowls) all of which were unique and I liked most of them. Everything about lunch here was fun and different. Sure the building looks like it was an Arby's or something in a prior life but we were here for good food not fine dining. The tortilla chips come out as whole round corn tortillas fried into crispy chips and served with 5 different salsas. For the entree I had a carne asada pombazo. It's a sandwich made between two pieces of fried bread filled with lettuce, a delicious Mexican cheese, and your chosen meat. I've never had one before but I'm now a big fan. Had stay in town overnight for business. Saw that this place had 4.5 stars on yelp. Those stars were reinforced by the number of customers. This taqueria was packed at 7:30 PM on a cold, November night. Ordered five different tacos, side of beans and rice with horchata to drink. The customer service was great! The horchata and beans were too. The rice was a little dry. The tacos were very underwhelming. I had high hopes and love good tacos de Asada or adobada. But the five I tried all lacked flavor. The worst bring the potato taco, which was the biggest dissapointment. Having never had a taco that lacked a protein as the star, I was eager to try this starch taco. But it was such a let down. Despite all the stars from other reviewers, I would caution real taco savants to stay away. There has to be better tacos in Yakima. Just realized this has been sitting in my drafts. After all the talk about the Hispanic population and abundance of Mexican restaurants in the Yakima Valley, we chose this one because of the high reviews. I don't understand. The service was less than friendly, the food was below average and I have multiple Mexican restaurants in my own zip code that serve a more convincing meal. The only plus was the price. The food was about 25% less than Seattle, but based on all the above. It was still a loss. Great food, friendly staff, one of Yakima's best. They bring you chips and 6 sauces, to start with! Extremely nice staff, the place is always busy but we've never had to wait for a table. Can't say enough good things about the menu, and there are some items there I've never seen on a Mexican restaurant's menu and I mean this in a good way. If you're like me and tend to order the same thing on subsequent visits that you got on your first visit, you'll be missing out. And it's hard to not repeat, because I liked what I got the first time and every visit since. This review will probably fade into oblivion as other, newer, reviews take it's place, but since you're here why don't you add a nice rating if you have some nice words to say (and remember what your Mom always said, "If you have nothing nice to say don't say anything"). I expected much more from this place with all the positive reviews. Starting with the positive, the staff was friendly and courteous, so no complaints there. They also keep their beer nice and cold, which was much appreciated on this hot summer day. Unfortunately the negatives far outweighed the positives at this restaurant. I don't eat at Mexican restaurants for the chips, but these chips were amongst the worst. Large pieces of hardened tortilla straight out of the plastic package they came in. Be prepared to be charged $0.75 for these chips that are normally complimentary at most Mexican restaurants. We ordered the enchiladas rancheros and a beef burrito off their specialities menu. 2 dishes that are pretty standard and hard to mess up. The meat was very dry and the food overall was lacking flavor. The food was far from authentic and even worse than Azteca, sorry to say. The margaritas weren't any better. Ordered a Patron margarita and Hornitos margarita. Should have stuck to Monarcha tequila or Jose Cuervo because the tequila was very over powered by the sugary margarita mix and too much salt. Don't think I would come back to this restaurant even if the meal was free. read more

Gave Antojitos another try with friends and it was not good. New menu with new prices. My wife ordered the chicken salad and the chicken was like jerky. I had the chicken in mole which was top chocolaty . Our friends had chicken as well and it was tough. Don't think I will return soon unless things change. Too many other Mexican food options. This is a place to go if you want an authentic Mexican cuisine experience in Yakima that is not a truck or stand (and you know I love taco trucks!). Made it here after a summer hike. For east-siders, Yakima is the perfect stop for post hike sustenance---on the way home, and there are some decent options (if you know the down low). "Pssst!", I sound as I look side to side. "I'll give you some down low." There are so many Mexican food options in Yakima. One could spend many years trying to explore all of them. For just a straight up good meal, with great service, and with some durn good flavors, Antojitos Mexicanos is where it's at. Located in what must have been a fast food restaurant in the past (this seems to be a requirement for any good Mexican restaurant: recycling an old bland fast food restaurant into something spicy, colorful, and SO much more flavorful). I went for basic and simplicity here. I went for a few meat tacos. While waiting for the food, a server dropped by and left us with a green::tan::orange::red rainbow of sauces and salsa spectacular. We tried them all with our chips. If you have a particular flavor, you'll get to experiment here. Of course the tacos were excellent. The meat was expertly seasoned. Came to Yakima to pick cherries and ended up asking the woman checking us out for Mexican food recommendations. Her eyes lit up and she says "Antojitos for the Pozole." .We rolled down by 11:30 and the place was already packed. A good sign. We had 7 people and the pulled two tables together and sat us right away. We ordered family style, some pork tacos, carne asada and al carbon (I thought the al carbon was tastier), pozole, Milanese sandwich. Everything was just awesome, especially the homemade flour tortillas. Chips are large fried tortillas that you break up. You get 6 different kinds of salsas, with each being totally different, but none especially hot. The orange one was my favorite. Great horchata too, and comes with a free refill. The restaurant is a former Dairy Queen and I guess the locals call it Mexican Dairy Queen. If you find yourself in Yakima looking for great Mexican, look no further! read more

Fish Tacos, Tortas, Salsas, Oh My! These reviews are the real deal. I came off a three day camping trip in Mt. Rainier National Park and was officially hungry. I chose the Torta, which was bigger than my head! While not my favorite Torta, it was unique in its own way, one of those being the breaded beef. Ooooo, and the bread tasted so fresh too. They also start you off with some yummy sauces so you can pick your favorite to have with your food. My wife had the fish tacos, which I also ate one of as well. I did say I was hungry.
