I do not understand how this place rates so highly. My GF and I stopped there a week ago for dinner. The place was packed, with a line, which we took as a good sign. The advertised special was chile verde, one of my favorites and perfect for dinner on a chilly evening. We waited only a few minutes before being seated, and were quickly brought the menus. Ordered horchata, which was pretty well done. And then we were ignored for a while. And some more ignoring. Finally, our food order was taken. I got the chile verde, and the GF got some tacos, including the highly reviewed fish taco. And we waited. And waited. I would have thought that chile verde is a quick dish to get out, as are tacos. The food finally arrived, and was underwhelming. The sky-high rating of this restaurant, especially in a hotbed of Mexican food like Yakima, set the bar very high. The chile verde was OK (3 stars). The tacos were also OK, but nothing special. In the end, it took an hour and a half to get some chile verde, tacos, and a glass of horchata. The food merits maybe a 3, tops, and the slow service costs them an extra star. read more

Pambazo, a frisbee sized torta dunked in something red, and then pan fried. Get this with the adobada, and there is a good chance it will become your new favorite thing in the world. You get 6 salsas at your table, the chip situation is interesting (you get tostada shells), minor thing considering how awesome the food is. The waitstaff and owners are on point, even though it can get BUSY at times. Sopitos, horchatas, enchalada plate, this place is great. Excellent Mexican food! It's got to be one of the best in town. My wife and I were in Yakima for the 3-day Labor Day weekend for wine tasting. We both love Mexican food and did lots of research on where to go. This place exceeded our expectations. We tired the quesadilla, guacamole, enchilada rancheros, chilaquilas, and lots of chips and a variety of flavorful salsas. Everything was fresh, homemade, tasty and robust flavors. We ate way too much and were ready to explode by the time we rolled out of there. Some of the best Mexican food I've had in ages. Extremely good Mexican food. I went on advice of multiple people (including a taco truck). It looks like it was once a Wendy's, so not impressive from outside or inside. I ordered to go. Deciding what to get i solicited advice from the folks who came in to pick up their preorders. Everyone had something I had to try. Posole was excellent, has sopasitos with al carbone beef, burrito with spicy pork, chips, rice. Came with a range of salsas. The brownish spicy sauce is fantastic. Above fed 3 folks, all happy and impressed. We got food to go and ate it at bale breaker brewery. While waiting for food I watched the service. This place is family run and they've got the customers back. Watch them watch the customers and divvy the work, it's a model of efficiency and cooperation. A gem for delicious Mexican food served cheerfully and quickly in generous portions. Hubby and I split the enchilada plate and ordered half shredded chicken and half shredded beef. Different than any other enchiladas I've had before - less sauce, wirh stewed potatoes and carrots on top. Best beans and rice I've had. Kids had the "tacos dorados" which looked delicious. Fried, but zero grease that I could see or taste. When you first sit down, you get a sampler flight of salsas and whole fried corn tortillas you break into chips for dipping. Again, crispy but no grease. We topped it all off with the flan and churros - both good. Service was exceptionally attentive and friendly, which bumped this from a Yakima 4 to 5 star. We declared this our new priority food stop on our Seattle-Kennewick jouneys. read more

3rd Visit, They now serve chips, though I think they are 75 cents extra which seems silly, especially since most of their competition offer them complementary. But really I'm just looking for something to complain about. I had the "No Way Jose", and when she asked me how spicy I said, "however the cook usually makes it". She looked a little worried, but when it came out it was great. By the time I left I was full and sniffling from the heat. Delicious. My wife had the carne asada, looked great. This is definitely my favorite Hispanic food in the area, the service is good, reasonable prices, and the ice tea is good. They added more parking! read more

Save your money and time! This is not an authentic Mexican Restaurant, as another reviewer described it, "a Dairy Queen of Mexican Food" and it truly is. Very disappointed, I ordered a Milanesa de Pollo, my sister a Milanesa de Carne, they were deep fried on some cheap bread and most likely were deep fried in the same oil that the French fries were fried, which are served with the plate. We ate the chicken and pork tacos and carne asada. The restaurant serves authenic Mexican food with two smaller homemade corn tortillas holding the pork or chicken. The chicken is mild and the pork has a little kick. The thin sliced carne was seasoned, most likely with a dry rub, and seared. There are seven salsa's, red, green tomatillo, pico de gallo, served with deep fried corn tortillas, they are whole. Just break a piece off and enjoy. We were traveling back from Idaho and found this place. I am not a big fan of most Mexican restaurants as the food is all the same blah rice and beans. Very simple place with good food. As everyone is saying, they have very good salsas which they bring to your table (free) and trying them all is great. The food is good and simple. The restaurant looks a little like a remodeled Wendy's, but it's ok. They have outdoor seating for the days which aren't too hot (or too cold). The staff is very friendly. read more

After reading the positive reviews, a coworker and I went there and had lunch. Everything was delicious. I am from San Antonio, Texas which is the TexMex capital of the world. Believe me when I say the food was fabulous! The Sopita was perfect (I had the chorizo). The street taco (I think they called it a soft taco) was ok. I had the pork and for me it was s little salty. The rice and beans were great. I think they use lard...as they taste like my mothers ... Delicious! Also, all the sauces were good. I didn't find one that was as hot as a previous reviewer referred to as 'Devils sweat' but they all had good flavor. It was well worth stopping to eat there. read more

I love Mexican food. I was craving an enchilada something fierce and this place left me wanting so much more. The positives: Extremely clean and well cared for establishment. You walk in and the first thing you smell is food with no undertone of bleach yet everything was spotless. First indication that this may not be my type of place was how unbelievably quickly the food came out, almost quicker than a Taco Bell, which was just not what I wanted for $13/plate. Everything was warm and dry which indicated pre-made and not regularly refreshed. Burrito and enchiladas were very dry. I tried to add beans to my enchiladas to make them easier to eat but that only went so far. The enchilada sauce had already dried onto the tortillas and the meat inside was dry as well. Thought about adding salsa but none of the six salsas stood out to me. One of them, the darkest, tasted so bitter, like when you blend a chile/pepper without removing the seeds. Margaritas tasted like fruit juice, maybe they use a mix and simply add in the tequila. Nothing special. We may have just ordered wrong and next time I may try the Pozole or tacos which seem to get better reviews. Notes: Parking located around the restaurant, accessible/one level. I was hungry and not in a familiar area so I turned to my trusty yelp app. This restaurant had the most reviews and the highest average star rating of any restaurant in the area (90 reviews with an average 4.5 stars). I'm sorry to say this place was a huge letdown. I ordered the carne asada and my friend ordered the no way Jose. The chips and salsa were bland and tasteless. The service was definitely subpar. The beef from both dishes was thin full of connective tissue and tasted as if it had come from a poor old cow that had wandered into the road, been killed, and used for our meal. I would never recommend this place. If you want good food, keep looking. PS not the end of the world, but they charge extra for chips and flour tortillas read more

The chips were stale, salsa was bland, tortillas were cold & hard. VERY disappointed and will not be returning. Not to mention, they charge for every thing!!! Tortilla chips for $0.75, butter for $0.50...we also ordered a side of flour tortillas and only received 3, I told the waitress that we only got 3, so she brought us another container with 4 but charged us for another order. Another complaint is that they are very pushy with ordering. 4 different waitresses come up asking if we were ready within 5 minutes. After we ordered, our drinks were empty on 2 different occasions.
