Oh my... where should I start with? This is the best Deli place in California. Even my European boyfriend couldn't agree more on that. We are from Los Angeles and found out this Deli when we went to San Diego. Since then, we must stop by here when we are in the area. Despite the huge variety of sandwich choices, the taste of the sandwiches are just ah-mazing! The bread always perfectly baked. The coleslaw was on point. And the pickles, mama Mia! We love the #8 Deli club sub. 12' split in two and feed us up perfectly. It gets busy pretty quickly but this little cute shop definitely worth the wait. read more

Rolled in for a hot pastrami sandwich and it was fantastic! Got that thing on a sub roll which they graciously toast the inside of that big ol roll to give it that delicious little extra crunch! The sandwich is nothing short of delicious, but be warned it is GIGANTIC! I grew up in the EC during the 80s/90s and can't believe I had never heard of this spot before. This place is definitely a legendary sandwich spot located in El Cajon. These sandwiches are so amazing that you're going to think about the sandwich for at least 3 days after you eat it and you can't wait to eat your next one . *Breakfast Review Only!* This place has VERY affordable breakfast sandwiches made with great quality ingredients! I got a pastrami, egg, and cheese sandwich. I've never had the option for pastrami in the morning but it was incredible! Salty/fatty/peppery.. just delicious! All sandwiches come with mayo, which I personally love, but keep that in mind if you're not a fan. The bread looks like it is the same as their lunch sandwiches, which is a neat idea to cut costs. It's just a little too much bread in my opinion (a little too thick), but it tasted great and was perfectly soft. If you're from northeast, you're going to love these subs. If you're looking for a sandwich that is going to blow your tastebuds out of this world, look elsewhere. Subs here are simple, gigantic, refreshing, perfect. Ordered ahead of time online using their website. The sandwiches here are amazing. They have good breakfast sandwiches, though the one with pepper steak has disappointingly little meat. The pastrami reuben is delicious and so is the traditional with corned beef! The ham and swiss is fantastic. The bread is really good. It's a little pricey, but worth it. read more

Six years since my last visit, still fantastic execution of sandwiches and sides. The only problem with Antonelli's is choosing which sandwich gets my culinary nod. This visit I went for the pastrami and Swiss on a sub roll (pictured) with side of potato salad. . So delicious! The potato salad was creamy and satisfying with a slight vinegar finish. The bread was soft and melt-in-your-mouth tender. The pastrami was slightly smoky, salty and tender. The Swiss cheese added a delicious overtone to 30 minutes of deli sammy magic. The service might not always be that great and the line to order and get your food might be long but the sandwich's are some of the best you'll find anywhere in San Diego. I got the #26 which is a BLT. This is the best BLT I've ever had and I've eaten at some really great deli's. As long as the sandwiches continue to be good fresh and tasty even if the cashier at the front counter is sporting a upside down smile in the form of a frown and is unfriendly and rude like she hates her job and her life in a bad way I'll still continue to come back because after all it's the great quality sandwiches that I'm there for anyway... 4 stars for great quality sandwiches. If the service improves and is noticeably better next time I'm there I'll change this from 4 stars to 5 stars... read more

Antonelli's has been on my list for a long time based on glowing recommendations and rave reviews. When I showed up for lunch, it was bustling which was a good sign. The service was my first impression. The girls working were cold, seemed annoyed, and not helpful. I felt uncomfortable ordering and totally botched our order because the girl working made me feel like an inconvenience and I felt I couldn't really ask questions. Pro tip: the sandwiches are giant and I ended up ordering way too much food. Second, the wait for our sandwiches was long. We waited 25-30 minutes for 2 sandwiches. Third, the sandwiches themselves were beyond bland. We ordered turkey subs so not sure if we just ordered the wrong thing but overall I don't get the hype at all. There was no flavor at all. Don't think we will ever be back. read more

I have been going to Antonelli's for years had the best of service. Today was not the case I walked in was it greeted took awhile for the girl at the front yard counter to make contact with me then I get my order of 8 sandwiches over $150 I barely get a thank you I asked about points and was told with a shrug ‍ it's not working today I ask for seasoning for my 8 sandwiches as all the fixing were on the side I barely got a tiny little container Very disappointing what happened to the friendly upbeat contacts and thank yous read more

A big disappointment. Parking sucks, it's in a shitty area of town, but it's a good sandwich. With that said, this business has been operating long enough that they should know how to staff for the lunch rush. We ordered 2 sandwiches to eat in, and after waiting for over 30 minutes I changed it to go because we ran out of time. There was no "Sorry for the wait" or even a "Thank you for waiting." Pretty unprofessional. The food quality saved them from a one star. read more

It had been a few years since I've been here. I've lived in Santee pretty much all my life and been coming here since the late 80s early 90s. Today was down for the day from my current living location in Murrieta and well worth the drive to have lunch here. incredible sandwiches, and large portions with great flavor on the pastrami sandwich. Best sandwiches I've had in San Diego. It's a drive coming from Chula Vista but it was worth it. I was in the area and this was so easy to get to. I highly recommend the pastrami sandwich with sauerkraut on the side. My brother got the #18A club sandwich on toast and said it was pretty great as well. The last time I came here before yesterday, it was cash only. Now they allow credit cards which is great because I never really carry cash. read more

We've tried several sandwiches (#1, #11, #22, #31, #38), but our favorites are the Pastrami & Swiss (#22) and the Pastreuben (#38). We get them grilled on marbled rye. The half is more than enough food for me. My husband is stuffed after eating the whole. The 8 inch sub is huge. They're nicely wrapped in foil and paper with a pickle on the side. We've never had an issue finding parking. The wait can be long (30-40 minutes) so I highly recommend ordering ahead online. read more

This place is great! Their sandwiches are very filling. We came here today after initially going for Mexican food across the street. We left the Mexican joint and I'm so glad we ate here instead. We ordered a meatball sandwich, Pastrami & egg, and a ham and cheese. I am stuffed and have leftovers for dinner. The pastrami and egg sandwich was perfect. I also like their pepper, onion, and egg sandwich. I especially like that they serve breakfast sandwiches all day long. It is best to call ahead here because they always have a line. People here rating so high are eating with their eyes. They are monstrous, but flavor was imo its par. Italian 7/10: pretty standard. The bread is soft. I could not taste any oil/vinegar. Very thin slices of tomato. The 12 inch is huge. Its basically 3 subway footlongs stacked. Atmosphere 7/10: kind of in the middle of nowhere, but nothing crazy Service 8/10: i wanted to try the capicola option which is the same price for the italian. ZOMG!!! I have had a few sandwiches in my life, and I mean a FEW, and I have to admit... this was the best sandwich I've ever had. I walked in before making a trip out to Arizona. The prices are great, and they have a nice system that they used to take the orders come up but somehow it breaks down. So they messed up my order again, exactly the same way they did last time, and I was here about a year ago. The food was surprisingly bland. I could barely tell if there was cheese on it. I actually asked one of the staff was the really cheese on it? Again, somehow the sandwich was bland, and I didn't really enjoy being there with the loud Bass. The kids going crazy in the restaurant didn't help. I wish I could give this a better review. read more

The food at this establishment was decent, but unfortunately, the customer service was extremely disappointing. I went to pick up a sandwich that my partner had called in for us. Before heading there, we had agreed that he would try to pay with his card to cover the cost, as he often does for our meals out of kindness. Upon arrival, I was initially confused about where to pick up the order, as the signage was unclear. (Apparently, only Doordash picks up at the "Pick Up Here" sign). Eventually, I approached the cash register, where I was met by a gentleman who began ringing me up. Believing that my partner had already paid, I mentioned this to the cashier. However, he insisted that the order hadn't been paid for. As I was attempting to confirm with my partner over the phone, a woman from the kitchen rudely interjected with a smirk, saying, 'Nice try.' Her tone and demeanor implied that she believed I was attempting to scam them, which was not the case at all. It was simply a misunderstanding between my partner and me, and her response was completely uncalled for. Feeling embarrassed and frustrated by the situation, I made the decision then and there that I would not be returning to this establishment. No customer should be made to feel unwelcome or accused of wrongdoing over a simple misunderstanding. read more

While visiting a work location out there, I had to try it! Luckily co workers warned me to call ahead of time! Of course i got lost when I went around the little loopy part of the road and missed the place and had to bust a u turn and go back. Parking in the small lot was a pain but oh well. The place look like a dump from both the inside and out. A true hole in the wall!!! But damn that was the best sandwich I have ever had! I ordered the pastrami which was worth 10 stars... And they remembered the pickle. I ordered a breakfast sandwich which was gigantic and amazing! My sister and I were visiting the San Diego area and were catching a movie in the El Cajon area. We saw this place on TripAdvisor and decided to grab lunch here. It is just north of the Parkway Plaza Mall on Magnolia Avenue however, it is in an industrial area and is not easy to see at first as it looks like a hole in the wall. Seating can be a little sparse, especially if you go during lunch hour (as we did). You will have to wait a while on your food as this is the place that all of the local workers (construction, junk yards, etc.) come to for lunch. The service is fairly friendly, the food is fresh, and the prices are decent. It is basically a good, clean place to grab a simple deli style lunch when you are in the area. read more

Ordered the turkey and cheese, added avocado and onions. My sub had about a pound of turkey on it, but not enough cheese to balance out the turkey, the amount of avocado was a little sparse as well. Waited about 25-30 minutes for my meal, but that was my fault for going during lunch time. Parking is limited, but there is street parking across the street. There is outside dining but on such a beautiful day it was all taken up. Ended up sitting inside, where it was too hot and a little uncomfortable especially during the long wait time. Everything here was spot on. This was my third time dining at Antonelli's Deli and each time is even better than what I remembered. It's dark, romantic, classy, energetic, and a little quirky. Like you've been transported into a 1920's speakeasy. The wood and leather surrounding you is warm and cozy, the plates are mismatched, and reflections in the oxidized mirrors give off a noir feel. I had the opportunity to dine at Antonelli's Deli, and it did not disappoint. I tried the #1 sandwich with ham, salami, mortadella, and provolone cheese, as well as the #23 roast beef with jack cheese and onion. Both sandwiches were incredibly tasty, generously portioned, and bursting with flavor. The deli does have a small, busy parking lot, so be prepared to look for a spot, but the delicious food is absolutely worth it. It sucks that this place is all the way out in El Cajon as I think the sandwiches here are great! They should open one closer to SD. Parking is almost impossible most of the time, and for the ladies: Don't wear dress shows or black slacks as you may have to walk through a dirt storm from where you park. Amazing little hole in the wall in an ugly industrial business zone. It really improves the neighborhood. Try the toasted pastrami sandwich with sourkraut, then just work your way down the rest of the menu. The owners are nice also. One of the family that owns it was obviously coming across the dining room to talk to a friend, but he took his time to stop at tables and ask how we liked the food. Came here for lunch. Half the items I wanted to order were not on the menu and I was also told the menus needed to be updated anyways. Ordered the short rib pastrami sandwich. Couldn't taste the pastrami over the copious amounts of mustard and the burnt rye bread. The chips that came with my sandwich were also overcooked. I also ordered the jalapeño Mac and cheese. This place is the perfect stop for those who work close and want a large lunch. Personally I think the meat is cheap, but they do give you a ton for the price. My husband uses a nickname that might not be the name he was given at birth, but is a name he has used for over 20 years and might as well be his "real," name. We don't want to make assumptions, but most of the staff has always been at least a little cold towards us at best, slightly rude at worst, and even though this experience might seem relatively small to some, it's ultimately the straw that broke the camel's back. We suspect that their distaste for us might be politically motivated. We know it can't be personal because we've been nothing but polite. It gets busy but not out of hand busy so definitely alot more people seem to order to go so seating doesn't seem much of an issue but definitely a good place to come before the lunch hour or early dinner. Parking isn't much of an issue either. Worst case parking isn't available inside the lot you can park on the street.

I hear the sandwiches were good, so maybe just stick to that. It is a deli after all. Service: normal, fine, no complaints. Ambiance: you can hear the kitchen fan, and then you also have music. The place was perfectly clean. Menu: there's a lot going on there. If you tend to get visually overwhelmed, maybe look up the menu before coming in. This is why I got a salad to begin with. I chose to build my own and it was amazing! Im a sandwich lover and this was a delicious great priced sammy. My daughter got the exact sandwich I did and she loved it as well. They were good sized too, I ate half and had to the other half for later. I'm so excited I found this place so close to home.
