I've been downing Mike's 6" Italian Sub since 1992...closest thing to a real Delaware style sub in H-town. My misspent youth was at least partially offset working at the Charcoal Pit in northern Delaware where making and consuming said cheese steaks was a perk. From an amatuer authority (oxymoronic?) on cheese steaks, Mike does a great job of providing food of my country so far from home. The atmosphere and conversation is typical small deli - lots of memorabilia from the First State and plenty of snide remarks like "where have you been the past year?"... or "they pay you to give us this lousy weather?" Mike makes the best Italian sub I've ever had and I was born and raised in Delaware. His cheese steaks are the best as well! He gets his sweet peppers from the east coast along with the hot peppers! I've wanted to try this place for a while. First time i came by they were out of bread. Bummer! BUT. I gave them another try today. I'll tell you now that i don't like onions or peppers. Love the meatball sandwich here--I ask for extra sauce and it comes with cheese melting over the top--delicious! The steak sandwich all the way is also fantastic!! If you ran out of meat before you ran out of bread, you didn't get the right sub - And you did NOT get it from Antonini's! These subs will be on your list of foods you crave and have to have. I was looking for a good Philly down here in Texas and looked up places that served them. This place had the best reviews so obviously it was the first place I tried. The only thing that I regret was not getting a bigger sandwich. Don't get me wrong, this sandwich was a good sized sandwich with lots of meat, but it was so good I could have used another. Interior ain't much to look at but I don't choose where I eat based on interior. I've not lived here long and can't compare it to other places, but I will definitely be going here more often. This is my absolute favorite sub shop. Ever. You like cold sandwiches? Get the Italian. Want a hot sandwich? Grab the cheese steak. I walked in one day when I lived in the area and was blown away. The flavor is awesome, the size is enormous, and the price is very fair, at around $10 bucks for a large (which is more like huge). The peppers make the sandwich unique, something you wont get anywhere else. I now drive a half hour for these subs. It also helps that the owner is an awesome guy who will bullshit about life with you while he makes your sub and is genuinely appreciative of you business. I forgot to review this place. The sandwiches here are really good. We had Philly cheese steak sandwiches and the meat was delicious. The meat quality reminded me of the the cheese steak I had in Philadelphia. That is many cheese steak shops outside of the Philly/South Jersey area fail.
