I have been saved twice now by Fred and the guys at Antonio's Auto Repair. First time, he checked a used vehicle from the Toyota dealership down the street, and about 15 minutes later had saved me thousands of dollars and a long nightmare. Returned that car and did not buy it. Second time, I took my car to another local mechanic for an oil change, and I received a call telling me I needed a ton of work on the front end for the low low price of $1200. I did NOT take the bait, and I DID get a second opinion with Fred. Fifteen minutes later, he let me know the car was fine...needed no work... and he sent me on my way. Really love the service and honesty here. I always freak out a little when my car has a problem because there is no saying how serious it is, and since I'm not overly knowledgeable on cars I'm weary of being charged for things that aren't necessary. Luckily, there is Antonio's Auto Care and the super nice owner/technician Fred who has steered my GF's car through some of it's rougher times. We first came to Antonio's Auto Care while it was still on Balboa in Kearny Mesa after calling around for smog check rates and Antonio's was the most reasonable. While we were there Fred noticed that the car needed an oil change soon and we came back another day to get that taken care of. The rates for an oil change at Antonio's Auto Care cannot be beat. I learned that after Antonio's moved from Kearny Mesa and I looked for another auto shop that could do it for me under $30. Every time I told the techs that I was looking for an oil change at around that price, they laughed and said I better find the guy that did it at that price because they wouldn't be able to swing that. Disenchanted but not about to give up, I chanced upon an Antonio's listed in Poway and I decided to give them a call, and how sweet it was to hear Fred on the other end to assure me that he was still working and able to do an oil change on my GF's car. Even though its a little out of the way from where we lived in SD, it was completely worth it to take it back to someone we trusted. Fred is really easy to talk to and he doesn't throw a bunch of technical terms at us. Instead, he walks us through everything and he even lets us stand right next to him to see how an oil change is done, since I'm sure he picked up on my lack of car knowledge. When a huge oil leak issue came up, we knew exactly where we needed to take it to get fixed. Just for safe measure, we got an estimate at the dealership and sure enough Fred gave us an estimate that was 1/2 the amount the dealer was going to charge. Honesty and quality work is all I can really ask for in car repairs, but you get so much more here at Antonio's Auto Care. They take walk-ins for oil changes, smog checks, etc. but its probably a good idea to call ahead to make sure they have an opening. We're in the OC area now, but we'll definitely be bringing the car back down to Fred whenever we can because he and Antonio's Auto Care just can't be beat. read more

BEWARE DO NOT EVER TAKE YOUR CAR HERE! I had the same experience Alex did, in the previous review. I am a young woman who was referred here by family, i went in there because i had a oil leak and it ended up being a nightmare. Long story short FRED took advantage of me, because i know nothing about cars. He told me he fixed the problem and made my problem worse. He charged me 600 for something i did not need. Something he knew i didn't need, but he knew i had no knowledge about cars, so he did it anyways. Any good mechanic would know that oil leaking in my coolant would not need a valve cover gasket, that would just cover up the problem. He also charged me for changing my oil, why would he change my oil if my oil is leaking into my coolant? Who knows? Anyways it ended up being my oil cooler, i had it fixed by another mechanic. That mechanic told me that FRED screwed me. I called Fred to confront him and he said that when i took it in all i said was fix my oil leak, he said he did . What was i suppose to say FRED? He manipulated me and took advantage of that fact that i knew nothing about cars. I am disgusted by this man. Again a long story short many words were exchanged, basically he said i had no right to talk to him the way i did, he treated me like a child. He has no respect for women or maybe his customers who challenge him I had my uncle deal with him for the rest of it, he gave me half the labor back which was $200.... not happy, maybe because he charged me for something i did not need. This review is only for Smog checking as I haven't had anything repaired here. Antonio's Autocare is located in the gas station on the corner of Pomerado and Poway Rd. I was a little confused at first as I first walked into the gas station office but you need to go directly into the garage area and there's a guy standing at a podium on the left side. I had to get a STAR check and this is one of the few STAR choices in the area. There's a coupon on the website which brought it out to be $36 + $8.25 certificate fee. The owner seemed like a really cool guy with a great attitude. They were really really fast. I only waited 5 minutes for them to finish the smog check. I totally forgot to check in because I felt like I had just sat down before they called me back. read more

My AC was acting up, not cool enough. Figured I would call to see how much for a service. I did a quick search on Google Maps and found this place. Pretty much all good reviews so it was a no brainer because it was like 8 minutes away. Fred told me the price, said bring it in and just like that my AC was blowing cold in less than an hour and a half. Fred was very professional and helpful. He didn't pressure me into buying parts or doing tests. I just told him I wanted the AC recharged and we would take it from there. Worked like a charm. We had a problem with our older car leaking power steering fluid and I had seen great reviews for Antonio's. It turned out to be a more extensive problem than I was aware of (thinking it was just a hose leaking fluid). We had Antonio do the work (replacing not just the leaking hose but also a leaking power steering pump). Unfortunately, the pump that was installed made a lot of noise that I wasn't happy about. I had picked up the car at the end of the day when their shop was closing and my daughter needed to drive the car back to LA the following afternoon. I raised my concern to the owner and he agreed to prioritize fixing the problem the next morning by replacing the pump again but from a different supplier (at no additional cost to us). The replacement was done the next morning as discussed and my daughter was able to get back to LA as planned. We appreciated the extra effort provided on Antonio's part to "make the customer happy"! read more

My experience was the exact opposite of the two negative reviewers. I brought my car in because it had an annoying noise coming from the back. They looked at the car and determined it needed two new shocks in the back to eliminate the squeaking noise. I agreed to pay $280 for this. Once they got in there to do it the guy noticed that there was a bracket loose which was causing the issue. He adjusted it, and oiled up the other 3 brackets. So, they ended up only charging me $90 for the labor which was a pleasant surprise. It's a miracle, the noise that was making me crazy is now gone! If they were dishonest mechanics as the 2 reviewers say they are, they would've charged me $280, not $90. So, I really have to question who "John S." and "Erica S." are. This is John S's only review on Yelp, and Erica S only has one other review. I think it's possible these are fake profiles, and that these negative reviews were written by competitors in an effort to damage Antonio's reputation. If you look on Google, Antonio's reviews average 4.8 out of 5 stars. I highly recommend Antonio's and I will take my car to them next time I have a problem! read more

I was so impressed by Antonio's honesty and level of customer service. I originally went in to get a smog check and repair on my o2 sensor & brakes. I thought to myself that I'd be shelling out a few hundred dollars to get these things fixed. I messaged Antonio on Yelp to request a quote on the work needed on my car. He told me to come in and he would inspect the car free of charge. I made my way over to his shop the following day and he got to my car right away. He asked about the problems I was having, placed it on the lift, and had me look underneath my car. This was the first time a mechanic had done this. He showed me different parts of my car and had me listen with a stethoscope piece to troubleshoot any issues I thought I was having. It was nice to be involved and part of the process. He also re checked my car and found out that I did not in fact need to get my o2 sensor fixed, and that my brakes were good for about another year. Basically, all I really needed was to get my smog done, when I originally went in thinking I'd have to get other things repaired. He told me I could wait on the repairs & he never once pressured me into getting misc. work done. While my car was getting smogged and since it was super cold outside, he offered me a chair inside, a jacket, and a spot next to his sweet dog Rocky. During the little time I spent at this shop I learned about his family and the business he runs. He definitely makes you feel at home. I was in and out quick. I am so glad that I met Antonio. Stopped by here this morning for an urgent check. Three of the lights popped on suddenly at the same time including the "check engine light". It scared me, a lady with zero knowledge of mechanics. Here is my original review: I've come here off and on for basic service over the years, which was fairly priced. I was stunned today with the blatantly false diagnosis and quote by Antonio's for repair of my F150 truck's problem with engine stumbling - $800 to replace all 8 ignition coils! I took it to the Ford dealer and they said that there is no way all the expensive coils fail at once. If one fails you replace that one. There were other discrepancies with the quote, too, but I'll never return to Antonio's. Not credible. read more

For all the repairs only had my car for a day. I was treated professionally,and the technician was very knowledgeable about my car. Identified all the engine codes so we could look them up. They saved all the parts and explained how each one failed and how it was affecting my car. My car has been running great since.
