Every time we come here we always have a good time! The service is always amazing, the food is also amazing. We always come here for lunch and the lunch special for chicken is 12.99$ and that includes salad and soup. This place also doesn't up-charge for fried rice! We were seated right way. We were asked for our drink order soon after being seated. And once our table was full, our dinner order was taken. Over all the service was okay. English was not the server's first language so it was difficult to communicate certain things to her. The server wasn't very pleasant either... A smile would have gone a long way. The food was delicious. The steaks were made just right. Our chef was entertaining and nice to the kids at the table. One complaint... We ordered a sushi roll that never came. So we had to order it again. Also, they advertise half off on Sushi on Sundays. I don't like that you have to order 2 drinks to get half off though. I must have missed the small print. Overall I give 3/5. The spicy salmon roll and house salad were good. The miso soup was okay. The California roll was not good unfortunately. The crab smelled of a mold odor so I picked it out of each roll and just ate the cucumber and avocado. We just had sushi and sashimi at Aodake. Let me start by saying the service was impeccable. We had an extremely short wait to be seated at a regular table. That was just enough time to watch the rousing festivities at one of the hibachi tables. Once seated, the manager took our drink order immediately and brought them promptly. He then asked if we had any questions about the menu, which we didn't and asked him for a few minutes more to look at their extensive menu. We ordered miso soup, ginger salad, a Perfect California Roll, a soft shell crab roll. Our food was brought out after I had finished my soup and was nearly finished with my salad. (Like I said, impeccable!). The food was excellent! The only knock on this place is the decor. It is quite dated, but we knew that going in. The prices reflect that because they are lower than other nearby places. We did not go there for fancy, upscale decorating. If that is your primary objective, don't waste your time. Our hibachi chef was very entertaining our kids loved it. They came out with a firework and Ice-cream and sang happy birthday. It was so fun! Reliable sushi & hibachi at a reasonable price. For many years when I still lived in Darien, this was my family's go to place for nigiri offerings. We've enjoyed their hibachi setup and have celebrated a birthday or two, so Aodake holds a place near and dear to our hearts. Thankfully, not much has changed since I did the whole college & move-away thing. Still looks the same inside, quality's still as good as ever, and that one server (I think her name is 'Jane') is still here. In a world that's constantly shifting its views and tectonic plates, it's nice to see that some things never change. Ya feel me? Most recently I met Danny M here for lunch on a Saturday and we wound up being their first customers of the day. This meant we got seated and received service immediately. The sushi took a while to prepare, but when the custom platter made its way out to us the fasting had ended and the feasting began. The rainbow roll was your standard California roll topped with fresh sashimi (yellowtail, fatty tuna, albacore). The 'Alaska' roll was salmon, cucumber and avocado, a worthwhile choice. The 'futomaki' was the biggest gamble (pickled vegetables, crabstick, seasoning), and I wound up not much caring for it. Aodake uses cute little plates with their own logo on it, which I gotta figure is the same at their Romeoville location on Weber Rd. The interior doesn't quite have the feng shui that Benihana makes use of, but Aodake is a much more family-friendly establishment. The cooks at the hibachi grills have a great sense of humor and terrific showmanship. Now I'm all for getting a refill topped off, but there comes a point when it gets a little ridiculous. In this case, it was hot green tea that was getting replenished every 3 minutes. Not even joking, I'd take a sip, maybe two, and someone came hustling over to pour. Attentiveness is good and everything, but hastiness is, well, a little irksome. .....especially when you've achieved the perfect balance of temperature and artificial sweetener in your tea. Occasionally they'd ask and I'd politely decline, yet sure enough a few minutes would elapse and they'd return. I felt bad because it probably gets boring early in the day, but it became bothersome having to say 'no, nope, no thanks, I'm good' a hundred freaking times throughout my meal. Bread = 4.5 Circuses = 3.5 Your sushi choices in Darien are limited, so while I can't say they feature the best, Aodake certainly is one of the most dependable. They gave me only FOUR grains of rice 6. They threw the menus, forks, and chopsticks at us like we were objects 7. My steak was 1/2 FAT. DISGUSTING 8. The chef was non-verbal and NOT entertaining 9. The hostess was cruel. She screamed at us and proceeded to tell my girls where they can and cant sit at the table. 10. The table smelt like piss. 11. The grill was not cleaned from the people that ate before us. 12. They stole MY CREDIT CARD 13. TO TOP IT ALL OFF THERE WAS A PEICE OF PLASTIC IN THE "boneless" CHICKEN. I am a fan of hibachi style restaurants. I love the freshly cooked food, I love the show they perform in front of you, and I love the Saki shots. This spot goes down as one of my favorites. The hosts and chefs are extremely nice. It's not a big place at all if you're comparing it to a Benihana and it's located inside a strip mall. The food here is always fresh and good. I had the hibachi chicken and golden shrimp and I am never disappointed. The price point is pretty good too. The drinks are a bit weak though and can use some more alcohol. I had the Mai Tai and there was absolutely no alcohol in it and for $8 I do expect to taste and feel something, so that is why I took a star off. They do take reservations and I try to make them, but I am sure accommodating a walk in would not be an issue because the times I have come it was never busy, even on Christmas Eve. I will be back and would recommend it to anyone in the Western burbs looking for hibachi. read more

We walked into this place on a Friday with a Groupon on the phone. It is nice decorated place but the whole layout threw me off a bit. Usually when you walk in a Japanese place, you have a Sushi bar type of thing close to door, then a few regular tables and then the hibachi tables in the back. Aodake has the totally opposite. So we soaked up with hibachi smell while the hostess lead to our small table next to the sushi bar in the end. We got the Tuna lover and Perfect rainbow rolls. The tuna lover was nice but nothing to rave about. Perfect rainbow rolls were pretty tasty too with the spicy salmon in the middle. Both of us liked the fish but not too much about the rice. The rice was not stick enough which probably caused by the low grade rice mixed with real stick rice. And the rice was not cooked/seasoned right. Both me and my friend were kind of picky on those little things so all we left on the plate was rice. The services were actually really nice even though it was packed for the lunch time and/or due to the Groupon. We did wait a long time before we got our sushi. I might take my kids to eat and see the Hibachi show when I could get my hands on another Groupon or something. And I will make sure we all wear hoodies or sweatshirts which could be washed easily after the meal. read more

I've never had their hibachi, this review is purely based on dine in sushi experience. Service can be questionable at times. If you go during their less busy hours, you'll have better luck. This is absolutely my favorite sushi spot! Every time I go, I have to get the Pink Lady roll and the Volcano roll. Pink Lady has been the favorite of basically everyone I've ever gone here with. It has a crab stick, lump crabmeat, and shrimp. You really can't ask for a better combo. The volcano is pretty spicy, but I love it so much. The sauce is unbelievable! It's super messy, but worth it. Aodake's food presentation is always beautiful. Then on top of that, all the flavors are just amazing. When you add the different textures between the smooth sauces and the crunchy bits it really pulls everything together. If the service was always as good as the food, this would have a million stars, ABSOLUTELY. read more

Came here on a Sunday evening because my son wanted sushi. We usually go to the all you can eat venue so our expectations are not terribly high. We didn't try the hibachi. The sushi is "up to" 50% off on Sundays with a drink. The waitress was very adamant about the drink. I normally just drink water but because she was so pushy, I went ahead and ordered a Diet Coke and my husband got a tea. The actual sushi is not horrible but not phenomenal. It was fresh. Their fried ice cream was really good. The thing that I did not like about this place is the attitude of the employees. We clearly marked our sheet but the waitress went over every single roll to confirm. They never smile, no engagement at all, and difficult to understand. The one time I did see the employees smile, it was the three behind the bar that make the sushi. Unfortunately, it appeared they were smiling because they were trash talking about the couple at the next table. I don't think I'll be a return customer especially when we have sushi house and Oshi Sushi. read more

We came here for the lunch menu and I must say that it was one of the best lunches I've had. Immediately, we were greeted then seated. During lunch, they have awesome deals. I was actually the only one who got sushi. I ordered the crunch, shrimp tempura, and some other roll that I forget the name of. The sushi was pretty good but not the best I've had. What I really loved were my siblings dishes! They got salmon with veggies and rice and the other order was chicken w vegetables and fried rice. The rice was so delicious and the flavoring on the vegetables were to die for. I loved everything about it. It was a nice portion size too! Also, salad with ginger dressing and miso soup were complimentary. At first, our server seemed very rude and was in a rush. She gave us about 5 minutes after sitting down before she asked what we wanted to order. I understand her mindset but that's not polite. I ordered Tonkatsu Ramen which fell below average, the broth wasn't hot enough, and there's lack in flavor. I'm not a huge fan of dining in the 'burbs (eeek - strip malls and chain restaurants), but this place is OK. My friend and I ordered the dragon roll, "pink lady" roll, and spicy tuna roll. I wasn't a huge fan of the spicy tuna, but the dragon roll was good. My favorite out of the three was the Pink Lady which was topped with crunchy tempura batter pieces (cooked, of course). The service was decent and price wasn't bad. Clientele-wise it was mostly young families. Not a surprise. It is in the 'burbs. While I wouldn't go out of my way eat at this place, I would still go back if I was in the area. read more

I've never ever had a problem with the food there and I've had it more than a few times. I can't complain about the fish smelling fishy - I've had sushi or seafood every time I've gone there and it's always been tasty. The lobster was excellent and grilled quite well, the steak that my roommate had was rather tasty, they're extremely friendly and all of the sushi I've ordered has been rather tasty, though I wish they'd mention that the crawfish roll was spicy before I ordered it since I have horrible acid reflux and can't eat spicy things. The unagi is also extremely well cooked and is the best I've had in the area besides Bob-San's. They were happy to serve my ama-ebi with the head on the side without a problem and the rolls have all been really good, especially the Rock n' Roll. Fun for birthdays too, with a free birthday sundae and a Polaroid photo for their foyer with birthday photos.
