I came with a larger group and our service was still great, with very kind staff. I struggled to finish my boil because of how much food I was given, so I'd suggest coming earlier if you are a slow crab boil eater like me. I had the Dungeness crab boil combo mild with seasoned garlic butter, and it was incredible. With how much crab I had, I would've wished for more sauce (so next time I will order that option they have for a cheap price). Overall, I really loved the place and will come back! We loved our experience at Pier 9 Seafood! It's a pretty big restaurant with plenty of seating--we came just in time and snagged one of the last tables before the dinner rush for our party of four. The portions were great and everything came out exactly as expected. We ordered miso soup, a salmon veggie plate, and a mixed seafood combo (shrimp, snow crab, and mussels). They were super accommodating and steamed everything with the sauce on the side, which we really appreciated. Service was excellent--attentive and friendly without being overbearing. I will say that the seafood boil with the snow crab and seasoned garlic butter was amazing. The sausage was a great as a part of it too! However, the coconut walnut shrimp came with full walnuts on top and unseasoned broccoli. It did not look very appealing as a dish, and lacked the flavor that the seafood boil had. I'd recommend this place to anyone with a jones for seafood. It's not without faults or blemishes...but here in the cheap, callous world of 2026, just suck it up. I'll explain anon. Fishy filet expectations aside, what I got was waaay good. These folks have their boiling honed to a Fine Art. Everything - the crab legs, shrimp, scallops, corn, spuds - was cooked " just so" - that razor thin margin between "ah!" and "too much, damnit!". Just perfect. Making things better, they serve unabashedly, Old Bay and Real Butter, unlike some wishy-washy chains on their way to Bankruptcy. (Rouge Crustacean) The service was okay - not stellar, but not bad either, with a proper cadence, and always with "you're in charge" friendliness and attention. I have a few observations. Not "gripes", but things I noticed for Management and restaurant-goers in 2026 to consider: 1. The table napkins are wholly-inadequate to the task of a seafood boil. A roll of toilet paper would be just as effective as the micron-thin napkins provided. 2. If you're looking for romantic / elegant decor for a first date, seek elsewhere; this ain't it. But be prepared to double or treble your budget. As far as Nitpicks go, that's it And those nitpicks illustrate the beauty of Pier 9: they provide a wonderful meal of high-quality, FRESH seafood, with impressive portions, at prices which - though expensive - an ordinary Working Man could consider affordable. It was kinda empty and after sitting for 15 minutes I had to get up and ask for a waitress to be sent over only for it to be the same young lady that walked past me at least 5 times. Don't eat here. They will forget $50 worth of ingredients in your order and then accuse you of lying when you let them know that they fu**ed up. The manager Jan came out and told us they have camera footage of the missing food (2 lobster tails) being added to our meal but that we would have to call the police ourselves to prove it. I know tf she's lying because there were no lobster tails in our order whatsoever. She said she had footage of the lobster tails being included but also somehow wasn't accusing us of having eaten them. Essentially the manager JAN told us that she had video proof that were lying and trying to steal, but when we asked to see the footage she said we would have to call the police and "waste their time." All in all it was just a of escalation that could have been avoided with a simple "we're really sorry about that. Ate here last night. Food was fresh and tasteful, service was excellent. Our waitress stopped in often to see how we were doing and if we needed anything. She even brought the chef out to clarify if they used lard in preparing the lobster bisque soup, which was very good and prepared from scratch. However, I had 2 issues. One, that MSG is used in their flavoring. I had the mussels and requested their Pier 9 seasoning medium and the garlic butter with medium spice. Both contained MSG as I would assume other flavoring the same. MSG (Monosodium Glutamate) is a flavor enhancer and is used often in prepared foods. If your sensitive to MSG like i am you may experience headaches and nausea, numbness, etc., as I did. It is also known to elevate blood sugar and not the best for diabetics. Having said this I would recommend ordering these types of dishes plain and perhaps ask for seasoning without MSG. Second, and more important to me as a personal preference, the use of plastic bags in steaming and cooking food, and in discarding shells. Cooking in plastic bags release harmful chemicals like BPA, phthalates, PFAS, and dioxins into food especially when heated. Not to mention the toll it takes on the environment. I would strongly recommend that this restaurant incorporate a more eco friendly way in preparing and presenting food. Perhaps using glass or ceramic like may restaurants that serve steamed shellfish. This shouldn't be a deterrent in going to this restaurant as the food is good and fresh, perhaps asking your server that the food be prepared in a regular steamer and presented in glass or ceramic. read more
