There's a lot of Korean restaurants in the Rowland Heights and Diamond Bar area but this place has more than your standard sundubu or Korean bbq. We ordered the bokkeum naejji (pan fried octopus) and gamjatang (korean pork neck potato stew). The soup was good, better than some other places (not as good as Gamjagol) but the pork wasn't fall off the bone. The bokkeum naejji was delicious and it's not sweet like most places usually make it. You have to get the pan fried rice (Extra $3) at the end so they use the sauce to to make it. Bring the bokkeum naejji home with the sauce so you can make another meal out of it. It's been awhile since we came back to try their goat stew. The food tasted okay but what ruined our experience was the slow and inattentive service from the only server they had. We waited a long time for the goat stew to come. However, the server did not bring any rice or banchan or sauce for the stew. Ap Gu Jung has steadily become my favorite Korean restaurant to go to in the area when I'm in the mood for some hearty Korean comfort food. They offer a wide variety of Korean soups and stews, as well as other popular items that are slightly harder to find at most Korean restaurants in the area. On my most recent visit here with some friends, we shared an order of Bossam, and Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake). I never leave this place without ordering the Seafood Pancake. It is large, crispy, and delicious and definitely an item that Ap Gu Jung is known for. The Bossam was also very good - it was tender and comes out with a variety of vegetables to accompany it. It's worth noting that Ap Gu Jung does not serve oysters with its Bossam though if that is something you're looking for. My friend ordered the Sam Gye Tang (Chicken Rice Soup), while my other friend and I each ordered the Al Jigae (Spicy Pollack Roe Soup). I haven't found too many places that serve Al Jigae in the area. Ap Gu Jung's Al Jigae is deliciously savory. It isn't too fishy, which I like, has a good amount of heat to it without being too spicy, and comes with a rather huge portion of fish eggs. It definitely hit the spot and is one of my favorite soups here. Some other items that are worth mentioning that I've tried here before and would recommend are the Goat Stew, the Yumso Tang (Spicy Goat Soup), especially if you order it as a combination item to be shared, the Soondae Guk (Blood Sausage Soup), and the Dak Galbi (Chicken Galbi). The portion sizes here are huge, so even though the restaurant may seem a bit pricier compared to other local Korean restaurants, it is definitely worth it. Even the individual soups are large enough for two people if you're ordering other items to share. You'll walk away full and happy. I should also mention that they still offer outdoor dining at this restaurant, which is also nice considering most places don't offer that anymore. read more

Deleted my original review from 5 months ago because the owner lady confronted me about it in person last night and left me feeling extremely uncomfortable and threatened as I left . Long story short, 5 months ago..had a very unpleasant experience from my perspective -- wrote a review, because that's what the yelp platform is for --came to pick up my order last night-- as soon as I paid, she confronts me and tells me I shouldn't write reviews like the one I did -- She tells me she saved my number that night and has had it since. She remembered exactly what I wore that day and everything in freakish details -- yes, creepy -- I asked her why she didn't bother to call me or reach out via yelp and she said why should she? That she doesn't do that and that her business doesn't do that -- speaks to me in a very condescending and disrespect manner in front of a store full of customers dining in and her employees for a good 10-12 minutes with her very loud voice at the front counter . So many more details I would like to include but I'll stop here. In conclusion, I was taken aback and appalled at the treatment I was receiving as a customer and just..as a person. I won't be returning here, obviously. Gosh, I had a hard time remembering the name of this place so that I could write this review....BUT, just look for other reviews for one of the best authentic Korean restaurants in Diamond Bar, and this place was one of top on the list......thank goodness I didn't have to go through all the others to find this place because I don't have the first clue as to how to read or remember Korean restaurant names!....yea, my girlfriend is Korean, but she's at work right now :) Anyway, we happened to be in the area for a nearby event, and my girlfriend happen to mention that Diamond Bar is pretty well known for its Korean community and excellent authentic Korean restaurants, so we just had to try it out....this place being the closest to where we were. My first impression was that it's a cute little, cozy and casual, down to earth restaurant.......kind of reminded me somewhat of a Japanese Izakaya style decor. We were very early (4.30 or 5pm) so had the whole place to ourselves.....we were greeted by very nice and polite ladies.....and after that, it was all up to my girlfriend to communicate with the server whilst I just stared at the pictures on the menu. I pretty much left all the ordering to her, and all I had to decide on was.....mild, regular, or spicy. I will always order medium /regular spiciness levels because I'm not a spicy type person, whereas my girlfriend loves all her food spicy! Before I knew what was happening, and after some friendly back and forth chatting and chuckling between the server and my girlfriend, it appeared that our dinner was confirmed ordered. I soon found out that we had ordered an authentic dish, that for some reason is not available anywhere in Irvine, called a Dak Galbi....or Spicy Stir-fried Chicken.....regular spiciness......and the portion size enough for at least two. As soon as the dish came out in its skillet and placed atop a gas cooker, I was pleasantly surprised at how much it reminded me of my own overseas home cooked food from childhood. It looked and smelled absolutely delicious. It normally comes with some seaweed and grape leaves mixed in at the table....but I can't eat seaweed....and the server expressed her disappointment as she claimed that was the best part! Oh well. Once the grape leaves were cooked in to the mix of fresh chunks of chicken, rice rolls, and other fresh ingredients were well mixed with the spicy red sauce, the fire was turned off, and we were ready to eat. Yummee! That tasted so good!.....yea, a bit spicy for me as I sat there sweating a bit, but it was all definitely worth it. And, just as we thought the meal was done, I was told that some rice was coming out and they then use whatever sauce is left in the skillet to make "fried rice." Bug oh boy, I was already so stuffed from the first round that I could hardly take in a couple of spoonfuls, but did it just to try. Yummy too, but I wished I'd known this was coming so that I could save more of my tummy room for a bit more. I was very impressed by this dish.....so hot and fresh, so authentic and down to earth, so delicious and filling! My girlfriend and I were both very impressed as we totally enjoyed this dish very much. Oh, as for the typical Korean salad appetizers......all very good!
