I would leave zero stars if I could. we waited 2 hours for a table after being told we would be seated in 45. we were told our table was being bussed, so we went to the host stand to find they sat another party at our table. when we asked the host and manager about it, they were extremely rude in return, stating they would call the cops on us for causing a scene. then they proceeded to tell us they could seat our party at two separate tables across the restaurant from each other on Father's Day. managers are supposed to diffuse a situation, this one only escalated it. Don't remember her name, but it started with an S and she had blonde hair. we are local to TC and will NEVER go back for the way our family was treated. we used to frequent this restaurant, but not anymore. 0/10 for service and your employees have a terrible attitude. the only pleasant person we encounters was Laura at the bar outside. read more

My husband and I had a wonderful meal at Apache Trout Grill. I had the French Onion soup which was incredible My husband had the crab and shrimp bisque and it was even better! What made our meal so special and memorable was the great service we received from Morgan! She was the perfect amount of available and professional but not over bearing. She kept our glasses full and was ensuring everything was enjoyable. I also had the Chicken Sandwich and it was exceptionally delicious. My husband had the Walleye with crab sauce. My wife and I stopped here for dinner on our visit to Traverse City we split a bowl of seafood chowder was excellent. We should've stopped there. However, we ordered a white fish sandwich. They came with paper thin deep fried dried out fish tails on them. Add the sandwiches not had steak size slices of tomatoes. It would've been nearly an edible. They came to ask how our food was out and they removed mine from the bill. Out server was quite embarrassed by what she saw. However, someone in the kitchen had to have consciously made the sandwich this way, which makes me think we were not the first. I suspect this restaurant rests on its appeal to tourists as it sits on the water. read more

Summer regulars at this restaurant and won't be back anytime soon. Last season we had three upscale expensive evenings destroyed by parents who believe that kids under 5 should be at fine dinng restaurants and not seated in a special area where they can scream as if they are being attacked while parents do nothing. Last season we asked to be moved from our prime lakeside seating to the bar because of this same situation. It 's part of the decline of this place as we just realized tonite that they have dropped their Mac and Cheese entre'. We also found out last month that they no longer do their special bread with olive oil and pesto with each meal, now it's $20. Cut the options and do nothing for diners who want an experience that is better than a unsupervised daycare, and find us planning our dining elsewhere. We left abruptly after a ear shattering scream while trying to enjoy an expensive desert. I know it's just a corporate location owned by an LLC whom is just in it for the money so they should start planning on the $ they can sell the real estate for if they disregard adults looking for an enjoyable evening. read more

We ate here twice while we were in Traverse City and aside from the view, which is fabulous, I have to say the whitefish dip would bring me back no matter what. Very rare to find something like that. Loved it. We also had the white fish sandwich, the French dip, onion rings, fries, and the perch Reuben. Beautiful view of the west end of Grand Traverse Bay. Dining room somewhat rustic but has many tables. I had the Strawberry Citrus Salad with baby spinach, fresh berries, mandarin oranges, pineapple and almonds and added Twin Salmon filets- big portions of salmon. I visited Apache Grill last night with two friends, and unfortunately, our experience was disappointing. We each ordered the whitefish dinner, but the fish was dry and heavily breaded--so much so that I found myself reaching for the tartar sauce, which isn't something I'd normally expect to need for whitefish. The mashed potatoes tasted like they came straight from a can and lacked freshness. While the lake view was beautiful, the food didn't live up to it. Our server never checked in to ask how our meals were, even though all three of us left nearly half of our dinners untouched. It felt like the lack of attention matched the lack of quality in the food. With such a great location and view, I truly hope the kitchen focuses on fresher ingredients and better preparation--because the setting deserves much better. Being fair, the night that we were there the place was full. And it seemed like the people were enjoying their meals. So perhaps Apache does some other menu items really well. read more

First time in TC. On our way there, about an hour out, we Yelped to find a good place for dinner. We came across this spot. They do not take reservations but did have a waiting list... One on which you can tell exactly where you are in line and how much time you have to wait! Awesome! We were #31 in line and had to wait 120 minutes! We thought, wow.... Should we wait? Since we still had an hours drive... Why not!? Also, we then had time to drop off our things at our AirBNB. By the time we arrived we were #8 in line! We waited outside in their tikihut area. We ordered cocktails and listened to some great music from a solo guitarist playing live. The day was hot but breezy and we had a spectacular view of the lake. Did not mind waiting. Side note - they have a large waiting area inside too .. but why would you wait there!? Our server was Oni. She was friendly and professional. She was busy but still attended to us as necessary. She also knew the menu. A+ The food was worth the wait and money. We ordered calamari as a starter and the lobster bisque. 4 stars on the former; 5 stars on the bisque. The calamari was a little soft for my liking but tasted good I ordered the halibut for my entree and Hubbie ordered the seafood linguine. Both tasted delicious! There was so much seafood in the pasta dish. I also loved the risotto in my dish. 5 stars for the food. Oh... Almost forgot... The tiramisu (which we ordered to go) was also a winner! My boyfriend and I went to the Apache Trout Grill to celebrate a belated Valentine's Dinner (courtesy of a couple gift cards from my parents)! Chris had the Pan Seared Halibut served with long grain wild rice pilaf with a pan reduction and I had the Seared Scallops also served with the long grain wild rice pilaf with a pan reduction. Despite them running out of the asparagus risotto that was supposed to come with our meal and multiple issues with the kitchen, I had a 4/5 star experience. The Michigander dining room ambiance took me from that first bite to the bayside of Traverse City and experienced a flavor bomb that could only be described as a taste of Michigan's great outdoors. The scallops were seared to perfection and were succulent and tender with every savory mouthful. The wild rice pilaf had texture that could only be described as laying on the sleeping bear dunes and gazing at the clouds in the peak of summer. The garlic green beans and mashed potatoes were excellent additions to the meal as well as this was an experience that felt like it ended too soon. I want to thank the manager for being there every step of the way and accommodating us as we trekked from Grand Rapids to Norton Shores, Muskegon before making it up to Traverse City. I will most likely be returning back to experience the asparagus risotto as I have heard great things about it. What a perfect lunch spot with a view. We've tried to come at dinner on many trips but the wait gets way too long. So we snagged a stable before noon. That's a tip. Anyway, I got a signature salad with greens, candied pecans, goat cheese, thin slices of apples and a champagne vinaigrette. I had a piece of whitefish added on top. It was a great combination of sweet and savory. My husband got the Perch Reuben. The bread was fresh and tasty. It had flavor from the sauces and was a good choice. Ordered $49 filet medium well and it came out rare. It was even more rare toward the center than pictured. The waitress was extremely rude & when we asked for a new plate to come out all together, she cut me off and told me, "If I'd just listen-she would have them re cook it and bring it out" (no one wants to eat their sides and be dill or eat their meal without the protein)! My entire family was done eating by the time the steak came out. My husband ate part of the steak after eating some of the sides while waiting and I was so irritated with the rude waitress, I didn't eat and just wanted to leave. Whitefish dip was also disgusting. Sad to say we were disappointed- not as good as it was pre-pandemic. The menu is significantly smaller. Great if you like fish/seafood but not many options otherwise and their two pasta dishes don't epitomize what we remember being "Apache Trout" quality - an Alfredo and a Mac & cheese dish (not creative). Plus your sides for most dishes are fries and/or coleslaw. Who wants fries with Baja tacos?!? With that said, the house salad was delicious as was the French onion soup. I was really looking forward to a nice dinner with my family this past week, all for it to be ruined by a single employee. We were being served by a man named Trey, and he was very inconsiderate from the start. He was clearly frustrated when we weren't ready to order food moments after arriving, made snarky comments about what we ordered, and would roll his eyes when anyone simply asked for some more water. There was hardly anyone in the restaurant, and while the tables around us received their food extremely quick, ours was nowhere to be seen and eventually came out warm at best. He was rude the entire night and showed zero effort or care for my family. I highly recommend eating anywhere but Apache Trout Grill, and can confidently say I will never be returning myself!!! read more

Loved coming here for some dinner on a recent trip to Traverse City. We were able to join the waitlist online, so had a drink by the water while waiting for our table. Had not only one but two outdoors bars which I loved, with some live music as well. The margarita was great, and really enjoyed the bread and the whitefish dip as appetizers. The seared scallops were really good, I wasn't the biggest fan of the risotto - it was good but seemed almost a bit undercooked. Overall I definitely recommend for some seafood whenever you're out in the area! read more

The atmosphere here is great. A fancy woodsy Lodge on a Lake type vibe. Spectacular Water views from their patio, that has accordion doors creating an open feeling. I ordered the ribs, half rack ($22), with baked beans and cole slaw. The ribs were excellent. Cooked perfectly and a very tasty sauce. The baked beans were good, but nothing special. The cole slaw was basically ditto with the beans. The person I was with ordered the Ribeye ($37) and stated it was cooked perfectly and was very decent size. She would get it again. The service was sadly, downright bad. Almost horrible. The staff was uptight and rude. Our waitress seemed to always be in a hurry and didn't listen well. Plus she would disappear for large periods and when she visited another table, wouldn't even look at our table. The person I was with decided she wanted a glass of wine. Since we could get our waitress we flagged down a waiter. People on the room thought he looked like Rick from Pawn Star. However he ended up being very snotty. When asked how Sweet the Red Wine was, he stated theirs no such thing as a Sweet Red. Weird, considering I've bought sweet Reds and read about even more of them. I also overheard him talking to other tables with a I am better than you attitude. Considering both the people we interacted with were some of the worse I've had in a long while, not good. Overall a 2 star Review. Would I return? Probably not! Atmosphere is great. Food is Good to very good, but not special. Service is bad. Just not worth it, when there are over a hundred restaurants in Traverse City to try. read more

Food was extremely bland and lackluster. I had the Trout Almondine with asparagus and my wife had Prime Rib and a baked potato. Trout was blah and asparagus was barely cooked and unseasoned. My wife had to send her meal back because the first Prime rib was extremely fatty and baked potato was way overdone. We've loved this place for years but tonight the food was so mediocre we will not return. Our whitefish tasted fishy so we didn't even eat it. The waitress asked if we wanted s box for it but did not ask if anything was wrong. We didn't mention it. The mandarin oranges on our salad went bad (fermented) so we mentioned it to the waitress and her response was that we should've told her sooner so she could've fixed it. It was a very odd response and had she come by during our meal to ask how it was we could've told her sooner. She didn't apologize or offer any way to compensate for it. The burger was even bad. It was dry and didn't have flavor. My husband got a shrimp cocktail to go and said it was smelly and fishy/old. It's a shame because the ambiance and setting of this restaurant is beautiful. Another great addition to the group owned by Jeff Lobdell in Michigan.... Great location along the west bay with awesome water views . We happened in on a Saturday with a surf and turf special. We were celebrating so we each went with the 1pound king crab legs. We were not disappointed! Perfectly steamed and cracked for easy access to the sumptuous crab meat. It was sweet , and tender while the veggie side was filled with roasted garlic accompanying the broccoli. The whitefish dip appetizer is warm which is not the norm in Michigan. It was very tasty with our cocktails . Custom cocktails with Traverse City Cherry whiskey topped off a memorable dinner. They are also very Covid conscious. read more

Before we started our trip I found a list of great waterfront restaurants in Michigan and Apache Trout was listed on it. We decided to come here for dinner and had a great experience. They do not take reservations, but once service has started you can put your name on a waiting list that provides you with estimated seating times. This is a great service and worked well, but do not wait too late to get your name on the list because it will also fill up for the evening. We arrived early for our seating time and went out to the back lawn where they had live music and a bar. We got some Old Fashions, which were my least favorite part of the visit, and sat overlooking the water and listening to the music. The view was great and the setting sun provided great lighting on the boats and the clouds out in the distance. Sitting out on the lawn was awesome so arrive early if it is pleasant enough to be outside. When we were seated we were welcomed by our waitress and given the opportunity to review the menu. Warm and delicious bread was served with butter and an olive dipping sauce that I thought was great. We started with an appetizer of the smoked whitefish dip. It was very good and I took the leftovers back to the hotel and put it on a bagel for breakfast, making the hotel breakfast much better than normal. I got the plank-cooked white fish which was served with rice and fresh vegetables. The fish was cooked well and had great flavor. My wife got the French Onion soup which was excellent and had lots of melted cheese on top. We enjoyed Apache Trout Grill for its lakeside location, ambiance, and service that accompanied great fresh food choices. read more

That 3% "rising costs" charge at these restaurants should be in reverse now that inflation has gone way down and covid is in the rear view mirror, right? This hurts the waitstaff, because you just made my 20% tip for exemplary service drop to 17%.
