I've had only positive experience with the office and staff at Apex. Jen really listens to your concerns and asks extensive questions about your lifestyle that may contribute to any symptoms you are having. I sought out their care because I was tired of being told by my MD that my labs were "normal" and yet I felt terrible year after year. The only answer traditional medicine gives for women of a certain age is anti-depressants or HRT. Two years ago, I went to Apex Advanced Medicine for menopause-related symptoms, hoping for real help. Despite feeling uneasy about their high-pressure sales tactics, I enrolled in their $5,000 year-long program and followed it closely, including buying expensive supplements. After a year, my concerns remained unaddressed--except for some weight loss from the anti-inflammation diet. My meetings with Jen were too technical and she consistently took an unreasonably hard line on false choices (e.g., do you really want to make your family homemade cookies or do you all want to live long lives). She also tried to upsell me on further testing, which I declined. Ultimately, hormone replacement therapy from my gynecologist helped immensely and was the solution I should have started with. They give seminars about autoimmune conditions and weight loss, giving this power point presentation where they convince you to finance thousands and thousands of dollars in treatment with them, only to get nothing of value from any of it. And now they've added stem cell injections to the menu of services. What a fucking joke! How do I know all of this? I used to work for them. Office, I called and texted a few hours later but then get an answer, it took 3 days for them to get back to me after calling several times. I went to this office to check out the Laze lipo program. I had one treatment and then meet the lady that runs the place, she told me about thhe diet program thy had had used some drops they had and showed me a quick list of the food they want you te eat. Alot of veggies and something called Calm to clean you out. Long story short it was $2400.00. She told me to take all this and read it all before I start the drops that you have to put under your tounge every 7 hrs 3 times a day. Pluse I was told I would get a email of an app. to list my weight and daily food. I never got said email so I called twice and left a message with no call back. Well after reading it all it was something that didn't fit my life style and job and not getting a return phone calls the next Monday I took it back to the office and then was shown the no return policy ( this ssome thing they don't tell you about). So I said I was willing to pay a 10% return fee and was told NO WAY. I feel this a is very bad customer service practice and think they can conduct business this way GOOD LUCK. He pays over $20 one way for an Uber ride to get there and he's now out even more money. We call and call and call, and nobody ever picks up. They do not return messages either. It's very disappointing to see several negative reviews when my experience was positive. My health improved dramatically as I had terrible pain throughout my body for years. Medical doctors want to prescribe drugs as a lifestyle which I consider dangerous. It's unfortunate that medical insurance doesn't cover the cost of alternative healthy healing and so in order for these places to stay in business they charge a fee which may seem high since it's out of pocket but they also have expenses to cover. If you are considering Apex Functional medicine in Walnut Creek you should call me first! I spent almost $5,000 and 4 months following this plan to the T and at the end of 4 months I had kidney pain and diarrhea (and lost no weight!) I originally went in with complains about my hormones. I had my ovaries removed at age 38 because I am BCRA1 positive and carry a high risk for cancer. I was forced into surgical menapause and was desperate to get my hormones balanced. "Dr." Sarah Scharf said it was possible (note I am putting Dr in quotes because it is misleading to call this woman a doctor. She is a chiropractor and in this business is not practicing as a chiropractor so she shouldn't be addressed as doctor Scharf for Functional medicine). Sarah was very quick to sign me on and convinced me the program would be a great fit. She told me it was a 3 week detox, $3,300 cash up front, which I could split up into 3 payments (over course) and that most labs would be covered by insurance. None of this was true. The 3 weeks then turned into 5 weeks, that turned into 4 months and the labs were very expensive and NOT covered by my PPO plan. On top of that the costs of supplements exceeded $500 for 45 days. After 4 months and almost $5,000, I met with the nutritionist, Jen who told me my hormones were really out of balance and I should see an Endocrinologist. I assumed since they couldn't help me and they had very little contact with me that they would reimburse me part of my money, but when I asked they didn't even knowledge that I asked for my money back and asked me to come in again to discuss my labs. At this point I am very frustrated and feel like I fell for a scam! The sole purpose of this institution is to make money. I heard about a health seminar held at Apex through Eventbrite. I wanted to understand Functional Medicine and if it applied to my situation. I learned so much during hour-long seminar and felt comfortable UNTIL the end where Dr Scharf began the hard sell. Because they discounted my consultation; I overlooked the car salesman tactic and made an appointment. They had a huge application form packet to be completed before consultation. The forms were highly suspicious the way they were written: "Is it really hard to get your doctor to really understand you?" Really was really used a lot, really. The wording was trying to evoke an emotional response. After several pages of this, I became annoyed. The company is called Apex on their door and reception, but Flourish Integrative Health charged my credit card. This confirmed my suspicion!! I attended the consultation because it's paid. And again Dr Scharf provided good information, but closing with extra hard sell. I did not qualify for their medical credit card pay installments totalling $4000. I'm thankful for that. My family has been to Apex for two reasons. My wife has autimmune diseases, which we went to Apex for. We did have positive results following an AIP diet and advice on supplements. I would give 4 stars if our only experience was a consult on diet, the changes my wife made did indeed curb her symptoms without the need for medical intervention. However, they are wildly unprofessional when it comes to communication. My wife had a phone appointment set, their phones "went down" on the day, and after we reached out to them, we still never heard back. What really taints my image of Apex and drops it BELOW ONE STAR is how they treated my father. He paid 10,000$ for stem cell shots in his hips. We were told by Dr. Scharf that his hips were excellent candidates and should see great improvement from the therapy. The doctor administering the shots, who comes from Las Vegas where they have much better equipment (the doctor's words), directly condtradicted that prognosis, saying 2 or 3 more administrations would last for at best 5-10 years--With the possibility of not working at all. The shots were done in a room with zero privacy, not even a curtain. The secretary doubled as the medical assistant, who with one glove on and one BARE HAND rolled the $10,000 vial in a bounty paper towel before the shot was administered. I am so frustrated by the business practices at this site. Apex is at best a good place to get information on diet. There is no appropriate medical equipment or facilities. I have lost faith and trust completely in Apex. Do NOT trust this place with any medical procedure whatsoever. read more

For years I had been ignoring my health, working too hard and focusing everything on raising my girls. I have a thyroid disease (Hashimoto's). I had been religiously taking medication for many years not really knowing a thing about the disease or even that it was an autoimmune disease. This year my twin daughters left for college and I decided it was time to take care of myself. The changes have been remarkable! I've dropped 14 pounds (honestly without exercising). I actually have energy to exercise now so I believe the rest of my extra weight will come off easier. My inflammation and dry skin has improved. I no longer have aching joints and my brain fog is lifting. I'm anxiously awaiting my next lab results. I went to Apex to see Linda for micro needling with plasma treatment. I was very nervous as I had never done micro needling and I had never been to this office or seen Linda. I am so happy I took the chance!! I bought 3 sessions and just after the second my skin was smoother and softer than it has been in YEARS! I am 51 and had very tiny bumps and rough skin patches. I had seen my GP numerous times for help and nothing she gave me helped. I also had terrible under eye darkness and the plasma took it away! After year and half I was able to get pregnant with my fertility doc and asked for a refund on whatever I haven't used. I went to an orthopedic Dr in my area and I told him that I had I had stem cell injection in both knees in this place and that it didn't work. I told him I was scammed and he agreed and confirmed that I went to a chiropractic office which I confirmed and that there is no Dr on staff and that they bring one to do the injection. I told my Dr that I didn't feel the needle when I was injected, he asked if they use the process that shows them where the needle goes and I said no. I was told that most likely I di$nt feel the needle is because it was not injected into the joint only below surface. Also who knows what they are injecting. They know that because they are not regulated they can scam poor people like us. I was under the impression that chiropractors are licensed by some agency but unfortunately they are not. I will report my experience to the DA office in Walnut Creek jurisdiction. Please please before you let any chiropractic inject anything into you go to medical doctors. Today I was informed by a real professional what is available to us @nd it's a lot cheaper. I also returned from Europe and while there I heard of similar procedures that are provided by licensed professionals. This is my second go round with Apex. In 2014, when they were in Marin as Flourish Integrated, I'm convinced they saved my life by thorough testing, a diet and supplement regimen matched to me, and support and encouragement to help me be successful. Over a year I reduced my A1c from 7.9 to 6.1, lost weight and started to feel better than I had in years! This past September I avoided major knee replacement surgery with a stem cell injection. As I approach month 3, I can walk without pain and I can even do stairs without pain! And I am just now coming into the time (months 3-4) when these stem cell wonders are doing their best work in regenerating the cartilage in my knee. The stem cell program also involves dietary changes aimed at supporting this growth. It is unfortunate that insurance doesn't yet cover stem cell treatment. Some day it will because IT WORKS! It is expensive, as is all medical treatment. With insurance you don't feel the financial pain at Kaiser, just a small co-pay. I want to make a comment to the people who are giving negative reviews all for the money. I went for the free seminar for Thyroid and was praying to find a functional medicine doctor. I had no idea that this is what this clinic did but on a prayer I found them and through a free seminar. They explain in detail at the seminar this is a commitment and a cost. You can't expect that getting well is free and especially if you are at a bottom and left feeling like crap and no real answers from Western medicine doctors like me. You must know that nothing is for free. I am not well and in looking at my tests from the doctors, there are slight issues that show up that my doctors should have addressed. What Western medicine doctors do is they wait until you actually have diabetes to treat you and they wait until your tests show chronic issues - such as my glucose is at 100- this is a HUGE sign. Being that diabetes is in my family - doctors should be addressing this immediately but none said a word to me! I am willing to do what it takes not to die. If it means spending $3500 to try something to get well, then AMEN. This means, I get to work with a nutritionist, I get to do a extremely detailed blood work up that the doctors should have done. Take thyroid for example, the doctors test two levels on a basic test and that is it- there are 12 actual tests for a complete thyroid story. I want the complete story. I don't want the end result. I want the WHY and then the HOW. That is what functional medicine is about. Then it is about getting well and not treating the smoke with drugs. I want to treat the fire with everything I have. My life and my body are worth the $3500. Apex has payment options available. This is what made it feasible for me to do. I will Yelp again my progress. I did not want to five star yet because I am leaving this for a health update. One more thing, what doctor will sit with you for 30 minute visits and explain in detail everything you need to know? Honestly one day, medicine will turn a lot more to functional medicine. I think for a six month commitment, this is very much worth the time and money. Also the supplements are not $500 extra. I hope people that read this will realize that your body is worth it and know that some people are just not at a big enough bottom with their health and not ready to change a diet or to get well. I have never felt so ripped off and taken advantage of . I attended the clinic when it was in Marin , and I was properly sick - later to discover I was actually near death with late stage neurological lyme disease. While these people were kind, their assurance that they were experts was far from true. I had horrible reactions / even seizures from the supplements - a testament to my illness, not the supplements themselves.They assured me it had nothing to do with their supplements and instead urged me to take more, which I had more reactions to. I was so vulnerable and non- functional , and alone. And when I realized I was in the wrong place to actually get help, I was strung along - despite trying to terminate our arrangement- until another whopping payment installation went thru . I have since seen actual medical experts who charge a fraction of their costs , and are more interested in clients' healing than cashing in huge checks from the most vulnerable, infirmed and desperate among us . I had surgery to repair my torn meniscus twice in the last 10 years. The pain of my meniscus tear was returning and when I saw my doctor he said the next step was a knee replacement. I have a friend that had his knee replaced and told me to put off getting it done as long as I can because of the pain and discomfort he still has. He told me about stem cell injection APEX was doing. I went to their seminar to get the information on their procedure. I was very hesitant to get the injection because of the cost and it was such a new method in the medical field. I decided to get the injection with a little encouragement from my wife. I was amazed! After the injection I was able to walk without a limp or pain. After a few days it began to hurt again, but not as much. I bought their vitamin package and my knee slowly got back to having minimal pain with basic exercise. After a couple months my knee is in great shape. My pain level was 10/10 before the injection and now I am able to walk and climb stairs without any or sometimes slight pain. I am able to go to gym and get on the bike for an hour without pain and when the pain flares up it is a 3/10 normally at the end of the day. I went to Apex because of thyroid issues that were impacting my ability to get pregnant. I went through their program, and after previous miscarriages and unsuccessful IVF cycles, we have a healthy embryo and are implanting in October.
