YES YES YES YES YES! I finally found the best place to get wings in Raleigh! I've tried wings all over Raleigh when I moved here a year ago and Apex Wings is the winner. I've probably tried 10 places that are known for their wings and some a pretty good but Apex wings is by far the best. I went with a friend of mine and ordered 50 wings and tried 10 of their flavors. The garlic, parm, habanero and jerk were my favorites. I just ate lunch and I'm craving them as I type this. They also give a big slice of Texas toast with cheese on it to enjoy some of the saucy goodness if you run out of wings. These wings seriously had the best mix of crispy outside with tender, juicy and yes I'm going to say it, MOIST chicken. This weekend I have to go back. My family has LOVED this place for many years but it seems that in recent months, this place has gone down hill in their food and their facility. I was there yesterday and they charged me $6.95 for some fried potato chips that were half of the size order that we normally would received and our family of 4 would enjoy. Yesterday, there were barely enough for my son and I to have as an appetizer. Additionally, the chips were either raw/soggy or burnt/bitter. Also, they charged me an extra $1 for the hot cheese that was over cooked and had bits of crust in it. I didn't know cheese had crust. YUCK! The wings were great until the KNATS landed on them (see info on Knat issue below) So, now on to the facility. Where we sat, there was a knat problem. Of course, I didn't know this until much later. While we waited for our food, I thought it was just one, so no problem. However, after our food arrived, we were swarmed. When I brought this to the attention to our server, she said "yeah, we know, we are trying everything to get rid of them". Well, what I want to know is if you knew there was a problem, why did you let us sit in that section. Why did you not offer some sort of apology or maybe compensation for our issue. I've ordered wings here on a number of occasions and have been dissappointed every time. I keep giving them chances as there's really nowhere else to get wings in Apex. I made a last ditch effort to get good wings this evening and am completely disgusted in the wings that I got. Completely inedible. I ate about 5 wings and threw the rest out like I usually do. The food is great and the customer service is even better in this little dive. Ordered Spicy garlic and sweet and spicy Thai chili wings. Both were amazing. They let me sample a couple beers I was unfamiliar with before deciding. We also had our 5 year old with us who is a particular eater. I asked for a tiny order of just fries for him since that's all he wanted. She said the orders were big so she'd just have them throw a handful in the fryer to him...at no charge. We've been coming to this place for years, mostly for the wings which are excellent, but we've had a few other of their items, mostly appetizers. We come here just for their wings! We love how they fry their wings until the skin is crispy, then coat them in the sauce. We've tried several of them and love the med and hot buffalo. We've also tried the jerk, teriyaki and spicy garlic, all of them are delicious. When we eat in the restaurant we always get an appetizer or two, great fried okra and my kids love their tater tots. Friendly staff and one of those hidden away great places to eat. Don't expect anything fancy, that's part of their charm. read more

A nice but hidden "Mom and Pop" type restaurant with great staff and good food. Pricing is a little higher, but it's worth a try. Usually not too crowded, with next to zero wait times. The flavor selection of their wings is larger than most, but smaller than specialty chains, yet with a greater emphasis on detail. Overall, it's worth a visit. read more

Me and my wife came to eat here tonight and wow. If you are looking for a cool little dive with amazing wings then you have found your spot. The wings were meaty, crisp, and tasty. Coming from two people that constantly eat and rate wings so far these are the best in the area! Try the Sharon Harris and ask or the Ghost Pepper you won't be disappointed! I've had take-out from Apex Wings twice now in the past year. They are definitely high quality wings: great tasting sauces, well cooked (crispy not over done), quality amount of chicken on the bones. The wings were hotter than what i expected and what I expect most people would, so keep that in mind. For example, I could only eat 3 of the Spicy Garlic or the Spicy BBQ flavors before diverting to lower scoville wing for a few bites. The bar inside looks cool too. A couple of booths, bar seating for 8ish, and a few TVs make it a good sports bar too. Nice atmosphere with wood interior and fun bar kitsch. read more

We had our daughters Bridal Shower here last weekend and it was fabulous! Tiffany and the staff were so helpful and attentive. DJ made the Bride cocktail that she loved! There's not a better place to get wings in the Triangle. Seems to be a spot mainly for locals/regulars, but the staff is super friendly. You'd never know it was here unless somebody told you about it. I've never gotten anything but the wings and the beer-battered fries, but both are great. The sauces taste like they're made in-house and are all pretty great. Sweet habanero is my favorite, followed by Jamaican Jerk and the medium/hot/Shearon Harris spectrum. My boyfriend and I ordered 25 wings and an order of fries to go. The people were very unwelcoming. Then a worker comes out with our order and charges us $35. We should have double checked but we only got the wings. It's really not that big of a deal, but very careless on their part. My boyfriend said he heard one guy at the bar tell another guy he was racist jokingly. The wings are pretty decent but this place will never get my Service again. Very disappointed. read more

Been here twice now, and the wings are fantastic! The bar is pretty much a local bar but you can see the wings are the big driver. First off the wings are huge! The wing sauce is really good and original! We got medium the first time just to try it and be cautious trying a new place since definitions can vary so much. The medium wasn't our speed, we like spicy but not painful spice. We then tried hot our last time and man that was awesome! The sauce is really original and even comes with jalapeños (which I love and gives a good representation of the heat). As for the people, the bar tender and others are pretty chill and nice. The owner was nice and present both times, we even went on Super Bowl night (pick-up order) and they were beyond slammed and running behind so he went around acknowledging the wait (which some owners wouldn't), personally apologizing to each person waiting, and giving gift certificates. I'm a changed man, now after going to Apex Wings. Beef is my choice for most meals and never saw a reason to fuss over nibbling on little chunks of chicken. If I'm not real hungry and others want chicken wings, I would go along and lightly partake. Such was tonight's adventure to Apex Wings, someone else wanted wings. OMG, ordered Hot Wings and they were WONDERFUL. Finally found chicken wings I will go back for. From where I sat I could see straight into the kitchen. There was an accident, I think it was onion rings heading to the fryer, a half dozen fell to the floor. Thinking I may not want to witness what would happen next, again, I was pleased. They were quickly picked up, hit the trash can, and the cook (chef?) immediately washed his hands. Yes! Chicken wings are now something I can look forward to going out for and never had before. I'm not really sure what to think about this place. I wanted to try the wings because of the reviews so I decided to check it out. The strip mall the restaurant is in is pretty raggedy looking. That wasn't a big deal to me because sometimes the best places to eat are in environments like this. To be honest the scenery didn't get much better once I got in the place. There are a few tables for eating but this place is definitely geared towards selling alcohol. The bar takes up 75% of it. The place looked a little dirty and I actually wasn't surprised when I looked at the menu and could barely read it because the text was blurred. Even with all the cons of the place the waitresses tried their best to be friendly. I'm not really a bar guy so I got my food to go. I wasn't expecting much after what I had seen. I went home opened the food container and inside looked like your average set of hot wings. I ordered hot and I was wondering if the extra jalapenos they threw in were supposed indicate the wings were hot. Then I took a bite. I'm not sure if it was my really low expectations or if I was really hungry but the wings were great. They were cooked perfectly and the sauce was awesome. Not too hot but it was actually spicy. It seems most places have a range of what "hot" is and many don't hit the "hot" mark as far as I'm concerned. Apex wings gets the sauce right. You'll be panting while you eat but you won't be dying to reach for the nearest beverage with in arms distance. With the quality of the wings it made me a little sad about how I felt about the rest of the place. I might just be getting old but the place is a little too divey for me to return again.
