Run, run, run away as fast as you can! I've lived in this area for 24 years, was raised in the other Renton hill. This is hands down the worst bar around. I've popped in a few times over the years, hoping something has changed. Sadly, I don't think anything will ever change with this $hit hole. Takes forever to get a bottle of beer. Your local American bar and eatery tucked away in the back corner by LA fitness. My group and I came in to try out their breakfast. You walk in, and you seat yourself, since it is technically a bar. We didn't wait too long until our server greeted us and grabbed our drinks. The menu had some variety, and some breakfast favorites as well. I ordered the Joe's Special, which has three eggs scrambled with sausage, spinach, mushrooms, and onions topped with Parmesan cheese! I also got a side of toast and it came with some delicious thick shredded hash browns. Our server was quite the busy lady, but she came back to refill our drinks and check on us occasionally. I had no complaints really. The interior could be updated, like the chairs and tables, but this is a bar, so why bother so much? There are also multiple T.V.s and a few pool tables. We do enjoy coming here on Tuesday nights for Trivia (it gets super crowded!).. very fun. However, the service is still "so so" and food just "okay". "Scratch ticket dust enters mouth" Last night, some family and I got hungry and wanted to try a new place out. I've had the Chicken Fried Steak from Apogee before, but have never eaten there, so my family decided to have some dinner and drinks there to watch the UW game. The environment: A clean late 70s, early 80s feeling dive. Stuffed deer on the walls, wooden everything, pull tabs at a section of the bar, lots of tvs scattered (best part). Wasn't overly crowded for a game day... The service: We found our own seats in the middle of the bar, but were never greeted for 10 minutes or so. They weren't busy enough to blame it on that, there were also times when a few of them stood by the cash register doing nothing, but watching tv. A lady came over, carded us amd said someone else was coming, so another 10 mins we waited. The waitress came along, took our drink and food orders and we were good. Slow service for a not busy place. The food: I ordered the fried gizzards (I know some of you are gagging due to that, but it was good) and the Chicken Fried Steak. The gizzards were dipped in a seasoned batter and deep fried. Anything deep fried and hot is usually good. This was. The horseradish ranch dipping sauce was hitting too. The chicken fried steak was disgusting. The last time I tried the chicken fried steak from Apogee was 6-7 yesrs ago. It may have changed, but it wasnt as delicious as I remembered it. The steak was rubbery, straight out of the freezer into a fryer, the steamed veggies were microwaved and the mashed potatoes... THE MASHED POTATOES HAD A SCRATCH TICKET USED DIME IN THEM!!! The dime was hidden under the paste of potatoes that I scooped up with a fork and ate. Felt the metal in my mouth and pulled it out... A dime... Used for scratching tickets. Laid the dime on the side of the plate. With that, I finished eating. I let the waitress know and she had no idea no to react. She went and told the bartender. My first time there is my last. I cant recommend it not due solely to the dime, but the food minus the gizzards was subpar prison food. I don't apologize for the horrible review, I could have swallowed a dime while eating prison food. read more

I would choose to go here over some trendy "hip" bar any day. I loved the atmosphere of this place. Well established, lots of locals, and good food. Large open floor plan, lots of tables and booths. $.25 for a game of pool? Yes please! They also have old pinball machines and darts! Free trivia on Tuesday nights! Lots of TV's all over the place, there isn't anywhere you won't be able to see at least one. Food is great! Definitely dive bar food. I'm not big on eating greasy food late night, so I had a 1/2 Cobb Salad - uh, a half is MORE than enough. And it was so yummy! I didn't even finish the whole thing; so full. My boyfriend got the Gut Buster and loved it as well! We can't wait to come back - especially to try their brunch. Reasonable prices as well, and the food didn't take terribly long. For how dead it was in the place, service was rather slow - but besides that, we had good service. Our server was very friendly, willing to answer all of our questions, and was welcoming to us. Came here for the classic car show. Stopped in for lunch. I'm new to the area and love classic cars so I stopped in for a snack. These wings are huge! I got the buffalo flavor and the wings are huge and the sauce does not disappoint. Everyone is friendly and I got an education about the pull tabs, something I did. It have where I was from. The food is not great, I ordered an oriental salad to go and they put the dressing on there, so when I got home the lettuce was wilty and not to mention swimming in dressing. Also my husband asked one of the servers to make change so we could play pool and she thought he was someone else and was incredibly rude to him saying she wouldn't because he screwed her over "last time"??? First time inside the apogee. Not bad. Food was pretty good Staff was friendly. Our first server was great. The second one was slow. Not a bad place to watch sports and have lunch and drinks! The inside is very large and roomy. Not what you would expect as a hole in the wall dive bar. I would say this place is a good 50'x50'. L shaped bar in the center, tables all around the bar, booths against the walls, TV's everywhere which makes this an ideal place for locals to watch their sports. Two pool tables on the far end of the place behind the bar, plus at least one electronic dart board from what I could see. The crowd is definitely not young. A mix of older couples and 30's/40's groups. Reminds me a lot of the bars in Pennsylvania country. More of a rural feel, not a modern, city type of décor. This is a great local bar for east Renton folk. I'll definitely be back. read more

A few days ago I was invited to try the place The service and the fish and chips were Great, a 3 star+. I decided to try the place again. The place was empty and the service was super slow and unfriendly. I tried the chicken parmesan sandwich. Looked good but way over cooked. The chicken kept popping out of the breading onto the table. Quite funny and was a mess to eat. Interesting, the waitress took my knife but asked if I wanted a fork. Just not good service. 2star - this time. I asked to switch out the fries for a salad. When we walking in it was very much a run down bar, the entrance is not inviting and all of the windows are covered so you cannot see in at all from the outside. But the staff was very nice and our service was good. We got a burger and a steak. The bun was pretty dry but the patty and fries were good. My steak was a little under done but the flavor was good. The side salad could have used a little umpf as the only topping was croutons. For the price I think it was a decent value, really not too expensive. read more

Apogee is the local pub in Fairwood and it's our go-to for breakfast and late nights. The best way to get good food is to go with the right expectations. When you're going to a pub, DON'T ORDER THE SALAD, DUH!!! They excel at fried and grilled foods. The broasted chicken IS really amazing. It's a lot, though. More than enough to share. We always get an order of Jo's when we're there for dinner. They come out piping hot. Breakfast is great, and I really appreciate that they're open early enough for it. The farmer's scramble is to die for. The place is covered with TVs turned to different sports stations, but it doesn't become an obnoxious sports bar during games. The clientele is mostly local seniors, so the most rowdy that it usually gets is if there's a party or the group of 40somethings got off work and is having a fun night out. Music never too loud. We've had all the servers, and never had any problems. As far as we're concerned, Apogee is just the great local bar that every place should have! read more

I'm a little perplexed about all the sniveling in some of the reviews on here about this place...I walked in at high noon on Tuesday and walked up to the counter and said I hear you've got a club sandwich and she said yes we do and I said I want one! I wandered over and found a booth and a lady immediately brought me wrapped silverware. I looked at my phone for a couple minutes and here comes my food and was asked if she could get me anything else. It wasn't 3 or 4 minutes and she was back to check on me and came back again and again checking my ice tea and giving me a top off and I said that'll be all thanks. So she left and came back with my check...A little please and thank you goes one hell of a long way whether you're in the hood or in Beverly Hills... When I saw there was going to be an "Obama Bash" at the Apogee on Inauguration Day I signed up immediately, remembering the outstanding pizza I enjoyed there with friends many years ago. We drove through the foggiest night I've seen in Kent and Renton to arrive just as the party was in full swing, with the inauguration on every TV screen and many tables decorated with Obama posters - and plates of delicious-looking food. Our waitress was efficient and friendly and our meals arrived hot and tasty. My son's chicken was tender and savory; my 'personal' pizza was even better than I remembered. The couple at the table next to us ordered a 'small plate' of chicken and fries that could have fed the four of us. Everything I saw did look as though it was also very skillfully made from scratch, and we visited just about every table with Obama decorations. It was easy to carry on conversations and I discovered the woman next to me graduated from Cal the same year I did; my son found a soul-mate at the table on the other side of us and we soon felt we were celebrating among friends. We brought half our food home and still felt as though we had eaten comfortably past 'full' ~ I would love to try other items on the menu, including appetizers and desserts, but plan to bring friends next time so we can order more. Not having the foresight to move into that neighborhood when I had the chance, I am thinking up excuses to go back just so we can drop in while we are there. Casual decor with fine dining fits my family to a T, so I'm sure we will find reasons to get us back to the Apogee. read more

Everyone just leaves you alone so you can drink and hang out with your friends. 4) Pretty good food. Not amazing, but sometimes if you are lucky they bring everyone brownies for dessert! The food we had was good and the service was as good as it could have gotten . I don't think they took into account the football game last night . Ummmm... Yum. That is what I have to say about the Apogee. This place isn't going to win any awards in the decor area - but they just might win a french fry award. The menu is expansive and offers burgers, pizza, salads (you know that there is iceberg lettuce in this hizzouse), steaks, and even seafood. One of the big favorites is a HUGE slice of homemade chocolate cake - it looks a lot like the Motherload at Claim Jumpers. The attached Pub offers what you would imagine - pulltabs, faded carpet, dim lighting, and lots of customers that have been regulars since the Carter Administration. The food is delicious. The service is spotty. Its a great place hidden in Fairwood. read more

Dive Bar? Me thinks not. Instead what I found was a decent size bar with good food, attentive service, and people who just like coming here. So the boy and I met up with a friend who suggested we go to "Apogee's," he says. "You mean Applebee's?" we ask. "No. Apogee's. It's directly behind the Safeway." So we go for it. Step in to the large bar with well-cushioned seats and booths. Notice the stuffed wildlife on the walls and the well-stocked bar. Our waitress is quick to bring us menus and our drink orders. I order the BLT which boasts a 1/2 pound of bacon! And it did! The sandwich didn't even leave that rough on the top of my mouth feeling when I was done. Yippee! The boy orders soup and a baked potato. (Forgive him, he broke a tooth, but spoke highly of the Navy Bean soup.) The friend swears up and down by their French dips but ends up ordering the chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and a cup of soup.
