Came in a Saturday morning. About half the diner was empty so we figured we'd be serviced soon. We were wrong. Turns out there was only one hostess/server taking orders, but the dishwasher was out of service so staff had to clean dishes by hand. The server kept apologizing for the delay. We understood they were doing the best they could, but what we didn't like was that it seemed like the server had a cold. Funny enough, when I did a search for Renton Breakfast when this place came up I was shocked, I've been passing it for decades and honestly thought it was closed or abandoned. Turns out I was wrong and the place has been open for more than 100 years. Doesn't look like it's been updated in about 50, but it's clean and tidy. Currently this place has a Yelp rating of 3.7. I'm giving it a 3, because Yelp doesn't allow half stars and 4 would be far to generous in my opinion. Ask me, this could be the hottest place in town for breakfast, but they would need to make some changes. The outsides needs a makeover to make the place appear open. Better interior lighting might also give the impression something is going on inside. The menu was fine and pricing was much better than you would expect, but then again, breakfast is cheap we all know what potatoes and eggs cost. Service was friendly, but a little slow based on the lack of business. I had an omelette. Unfortunately, it was served like the photos, brown. I don't like browned eggs and the key to a fluffy omelette is not overcooking it. It was also way too cheese for my taste, that said, the cheese is on my, I know some people like extra cheese, but I assumed I'd have some cheese inside, but having it inside and on the top was too much for me. The potatoes looked amazing, but tasted like an unseasoned griddle. They need to add some butter to the oil mix to make the browns golden and infuse them with some extra flavor. The icing on the cake was the bill, when I got it, I knew something was off, then on exit, I saw a sign that said, all credit and debit transactions will receive a $1 fee. That is beyond tacky. Even teriyaki spots will charge you $.50 for transactions less than $10, but this is full service and if you decide to raise your prices $.50 per item, then you don't have to suckerpucnch people with a penalty fee. I'm sad, because I think this place could be a gem in the right hands, but for know, they are most like the oldest eatery no one knows about. If you build it, they will come. Improve your cooking techniques, dump the hidden fees and make the place warm, bright and welcome inside. Popped in for breakfast while waiting for the amazing 4 Sisters holistic shop to open.... So glad I did! A step back in time. And I liked it. A lot. No pretentiousness here. Really love a great diner! I was hoping this would be one as we walked in, and I saw the line of motorcycles out front. (always a good sign, imho) Sadly, I think the reason the bikers like it so much is because it's frequently empty and they get top service, to the detriment of other customers. There were two waitstaff, two people sitting at the counter, our table of 4 and the group of bikers in the front. We waited about 15 minutes to get menus, more to have our order taken, and then almost 30 minutes to get our food! When we entered, the bikers were waiting on food. They finished their food and had more coffee, while we waited!! Not sure what the deal was? Why did our food take so long? Where did the waitstaff go? How come there was only about 5 cans of Shasta brand soda in the cooler? And, actually, why did we stay and wait?! All very good questions! read more

Food is typical diner fare with generous portions; service is excellent; prices are incredible. How do I not know about this place after living in the area for years?! Probably because I used to go to Randy's. (RIP Randy's.) While many restaurants pride themselves on fancy corned beef hash, I like the canned stuff. And when restaurants do serve the canned stuff, they get apologetic or defensive which is so unnecessary. Rubattino's does serve the canned stuff (hurray!) and they said that it's their one of their top three sellers (along with chicken fried steak and biscuit & gravy). The restaurant opens from 8a-2p everyday, serving just breakfast and lunch. The bar, aka the Owl room, opens til 10p sun-thu and 12a fri-sat. Rubattino's is a place I always have to visit everytime in Renton. If at night I'll hit up the dark dive bar and listen to the jukebox all night with friends. But breakfast in the daytime is a true treat. I love the small town charm, old shake machines, vinyl booths and mostly the lovely waitress STACY! It's a very simple menu of American faves, but just an all over "feel good" down home place. Gotta check out that chicken fried steak or corned beef hash which is right outta the can. read more

Been going to the Owl Room for 20+ years and walking in there is like going back in time to the 1960's or 70's. Most everyone you meet seems to have had a rough life but are as friendly as can be. If you like diners with a vintage and nostalgic feel then this would be a great place to go to. There are a lot of regulars and friendly staff which makes this place very welcoming and cozy. I sat down at a booth with my boyfriend and we looked over the menu. There were many options. Our waitress, Sandy, was very knowledgeable about the menu. She gave us a run down about the menu and told us what the specials were that day. She even told us how the food was prepared which was very impressive since most servers rarely ever know how the food is exactly made. She even gave us recommendations that made our experience so much better! When the food came out it was very fast and I was honestly a bit overwhelmed by the portions they give you. I ordered half of the Biscuits & Gravy and a side of bacon and eggs. My boyfriend ordered the Chicken Fried Steak. The food really hit the spot! It was perfectly cooked to the order. We tried this vintage diner on a Monday morning, and it impressed! My wife and I ordered a country fried steak and a bacon and egg plate. The wait was a bit long, but there was only one server and one cook in the kitchen, probably the owners! The food was definitely worth the wait, homestyle good food is always worth waiting for! The country fried steak was one of the better ones I have ever had, and they gave us plenty of bacon and breakfast potatoes. I would 100% recommended this place over IHOP, Denny's, or any other big chain breakfast restaurant. This diner has been opened since 1917, and deserves to be open another 100 years. The apples on my pancakes were clearly canned and the sausage tasted Like microwaved frozen sausage we were also told that playing pool was free and then the bartender charged us $1 per hour for "upkeep for the table" which was a POS. I've always wanted to come here, but for some reason, it was always closed. However, one day hubby said, "We need to go when it's breakfast!!" Ooookay... This is my new favorite breakfast spot. It's super clean - don't let the old furniture and dated decor fool you! - and service has always been friendly. Don't go in looking for fancy or things to blog about how the angels sang for you when you had their organic chocolate cookie sprinkled with coffee filtered from bat shit coffee beans you can only find sourced from the Philippines. This is the kind of fare that is hearty, sticks to your ribs and totally calls to the ALL 20 fat girls that reside in me. I'm going to be honest, I come here for their bacon, 3 eggs and hash browns plate. Everything else is superfluous. Why? I have yet to get my eggs anything else other than over medium here. They do it right. I've eaten at some seriously fancy breakfast places and have gotten eggs that were always either overdone or undercooked. Over medium here is exactly that - over medium. Now their bacon is always crispy and always 4 pieces. I've had a couple of plates where it's more like 6 pieces, but they've never been whole and it's like they're trying to make up for the fact the bacon didn't come out in perfect, whole strips. I'm fine with that! It's not like I do that at home when I make bacon, oh noooo. Not at all! Finally, for me, the real star of the show are their potatoes. I know I've waxed lyrical about how much I love potatoes and my philosophy of how there are no bad potatoes, just bad people who don't know how to cook potatoes. I'm honestly a sucker for hash browns, but the potatoes here are smashed potatoes. I also suspect they've been doing this FOREVER, long before smashed potatoes were ever really a thing. Perfectly crispy and crunchy on the outside with a lovely interior that isn't super mushy, but has a tiny bit of toothy bite to it. Honestly, if I could make potatoes like this at home, I'd never leave. Oh, and last but not least, let's talk about pricing. The meal I've described above is $8.50 and includes bread (english muffin for me, but sometimes I just say no to more carbs at breakfast). Cash is preferred but we almost always pay by card. Parking is street, but I haven't had any real issues when coming here for breakfast. Maybe I'll see you all there some time? Some reviews complain that it's old, has a funky bar attached, and it's been there for what seems like 100 years; But those are all things I love about this place! It is so unique and has great character and I always feel comfortable there. In addition to the cool environment, the breakfast is really good! I love the hash browns and omelettes. The prices are great with big portions. My wife and I can feel stuffed after sharing an omelette for about $9. My only complaint is I wish they were open for dinner! It's your typical breakfast diner, that serves decent food. I ordered the chicken fried steak and biscuits and gravy both really good surprisingly, if it were between this and Denny's I would definitely come back to rubattinos . Workers were extremely friendly took down our order and got our food within 20 mins which is awesome. The inside design is very out dates and alittle bit dingy, it was built in the early 1900's and it seems that they never left that era. Rubattino's is a typical greasy spoon located in downtown Renton. Nothing super special about this place is what makes it special. The run down FINE FOOD sign out front is a bit of an oxymoron. Although it's nothing fancy, this place has decent food on the cheap. From the wooden paneling to the salmon colored counters this place is a total blast from the past. I have only gone here for breakfast or brunch and really cant imagine going here for any other reason. There has only ever been two people working when I have gone. A waitress behind the counter and a cook in the kitchen. Every time I've been here the staff has been friendly, the coffee is hot and the food is good for the price. There is a bar attached to this place but I haven't checked it out yet since I've only been here during the morning (and I don't tend to get my drink on in the wee hours of the morning because I'm not an alcoholic) One of the first times I came here it was chock full of Easter decorations...including the SCARIEST stuffed Easter bunny which traumatized my sister (note the uploaded photo.) I wanted to get breakfast with a friend and he recommended this spot. This is definitely a more down-to-earth spot and the menu is really simple. The waitress was super friendly and you could tell this was a local joint for the older crowd (older I mean Baby Boomers and older era). I had a hot chocolate, cinnamon roll, and the 3 eggs, hashbrowns and bacon plate w/ toast. My eyes were more greedy than my stomach so I couldn't finish it all. It was very decently priced too since my total alone was no more than $15 (with the breakfast, cinnamon roll and hot chocolate) with tax (can't remember if that included tip or not).
