After a long day of fishing, we had 12# of fish that was over the one-box 50# limit. We were about to "go over" and pack a 2nd box, when they told us Apollo would cook up our catch for us. We called ahead and had 30mins until they'd be able to seat the 4 of us. As promised, they called us when our table was ready, conveniently right when we were parking. I wish there was a 4.5 star option, but I just can't give them 5 stars for the whole thing. They actually charge $20/pp for 1 pound of fish each. That includes a salad, pasta/potatoes. We actually split it and did 1/2 pasta and 1/2 potatoes. We had too much fish and they charged $12 per pound just to cook it up. They also split the fish 50-50. Half came fried as an appetizer. Half came grilled as a main course. The food: Honestly, this was the best fried fish we've had on the trip. It was a panic breaded, perfectly fried feast of fish. Honestly, if that's all they did, we would have left satisfied. The salad was good and the vinaigrette was tasty alongside the fried fish/cocktail sauce. I actually didn't like the potatoes which had no flavor to me and were a bit "hard". The pasta was a basic marinara and penne. It was good. Not great. I was disappointed that they grilled the fish AND put some kind of lemon sauce all over it. I didn't like the sauce, and didn't expect it. I wish they had put it on the side. I probably ate 80% fried, 20% grilled in the end. The service was great and the decor was like your average diner in the lower 48. In addition to the food not being excellent. THere were just a lot of flies in the spot and we had to move from the window to an interior table because there was just too much "action" in the window next to our table. If you are fishing in Seward, make the effort to cook up your catch here. I'd go 100% fried for the halibut and rock fish. It is truly outstanding. If you do the grilled option, get the sauce on the side. It wasn't good and was slathered all over. read more

After hiking in Kenai Fjords National Park, I developed a problem. I had a longing for a pizza. Well Yelp wasn't helping me too much with pizza recommendations in Seward, Alaska, so when I saw an overweight park ranger, I thought to myself....I bet that guy knows the best pizza in town. You see most National Park types, don't know food. They are happy with half a banana and a granola bar that they keep in their backpacks. But this round man.....he didn't get that way eating rabbit food, I knew he knew where the good eats were....and I was right. He didn't even hesitate and said Apollo. I was a little concerned seeing the 3 1/2 star rating and that I was going to a Greek restaurant for pizza, but I was trusting this man's girth and conviction over yelp on this day. We ordered an Apollo Special (Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushroom, Peppers, and black olives), and a Gyro Pizza, because again it's a Greek Restaurant, why not try something Greek. This one came with gyro meat, feta cheese, peppers, onions, mushrooms, tomatoes, and Tzatziki sauce. The feta was in addition to the mozzarella, so it still had a a healthy layer of melted cheese on top of a garlic sauce as it's base, thus more pizza than flat bread. Both Pizzas were very good. The crust I would describe as good fresh baked bread more than a pizza crust. But that's not a bad thing, just provided a thicker crunchier crust than your normal pizza, and had a nice flavor to the dough. Living in Southern California, where it's hard to get good pizza, this would be one of the better ones around for sure. So if you are getting off a 7 day cruise, where the pizza is lame, and you've done lots of salmon and crab already - this is the place for a good pie. And if you are local, you are pretty lucky to have a good pizza place in your small town. We went to some highly rated pizza spot in Anchorage (Moose's Tooth) a couple days later, and we all agreed it wasn't as good as Apollo. read more

We ended up here after getting turned away from every other restaurant on the street. And thank goodness we did. Food was good. We ordered a pizza, the steak, and fish and chips (I know, we've had Italian two nights in a row, stop judging!). All entrees were good. Great dough! Food: after contemplating what to order...we went with a medium Apollo pizza. The prices on everything else was higher than what we wanted to spend. The pizza came out fast. The bottom of the pizza was crispy and the dough was soft. Pizza came out pretty good. Wasn't wowed, but pretty good on beating my expectations. The toppings were not hot, but the cheese was super gooey. Environment: we were seated fairly fast for dinner on a monday. The restaurant was spacious. The waiters were very professional and attentive. Maybe a bit too much because since there was a lot of them and not enough folks in the restaurant. ..they kept asking for our status. Two hours for a pizza and other late orders. Staff used the argument that they are understaffed, machine not working etc. In those 2 hours dozens of tables were served. Crowds came and went. Seward: land of 4-5 star bars and 3-star food. Seriously, what's the deal? The food in Seward is OK, but nothing to really get excited about, or even drive-in for. (with the one, HUGE, exception being Smokehouse!) I feel like it's the exact opposite of Talkeetna in this regard. Anyway, this is yet another 3-star Seward spot to eat. It's a little bit more on the pricey side. It's an Italian/Greek/Seafood mashup that seems to be so common up here in Alaska. The food is good, not great. The prices are a bit high. Not expecting much during our overnight stay in Seward prior to our cruise, we stopped on the recommendation of a local working in the hospitality industry. My friend and I were AMAZED with their Char-Broiled Wild Salmon Sandwich! It was definitely fresh tasting and wonderfully presented! The ladies split a small Rustic Pizza. I was fortunate to be able to share a slice. The crust was as good as the pies I've had in NYC, with a flair! The flavors popped wonderfully! Who would have thought all that is a Greek restaurant? So my friend tells me that we have to go to Apollos because it has the best pizza he has ever tasted. Needless to say, since we were all from the lower 48 I was a little skeptical.
