Was very happily surprised tonight with the service and the food! Highly recommend the stuffed mushrooms, either pasta dishes, and even the pizzas coming out to other tables looked good. Our family of 4 had been out on a 5 hour bay cruise, so we were looking for an easy dinner place, and Apollo is near our AirBnB. Pros-seated right away, prompt service from server and other wait staff, drinks and salad served quickly. Cons-pricey for what it is, long wait for main food which was two kids meals and one large pizza. Messed up pizza so had to wait another 20 minutes for new one. Just personal preference-too much cheese. Our server was apologetic for the mixup on the pizza and had our drinks comped. Nice gesture, should've been the whole pizza IMO. Overall, it's meh, but with such limited options around town, sometimes we have to settle for mediocre. read more

My family and I were on a Land and Sea cruise and picked up the ship in Seward. We wandered around the small town and decided to stop for lunch at the Apollo restaurant. There were about 4 other families in the restaurant. We waited a few minutes and were then sat at a table by the window. Our waitress was a middle aged woman, she was very kind and quick with our drink orders. The table ordered meatball sandwich, a lamb Gyro and a lamb burger. Each order came with seasoned fries. My mother has sever allergies and forgot to ask what kind of seasoning came on the fries. When the food came out she asked the waitress what was on them. The waitress was very kind about the situation and went to the kitchen to find out. Turns out my mother could not eat the fries so they made her a fresh batch without seasoning. The meatball, sandwich was average, the saving grace was the toasted garlic French bread it was served on. The sauce on the sandwich was under seasoned but the meat was ok. The lamb burger was mediocre, there was not much flavor. It came with lettuce, onion and thick cut peppers. The lamb Gyro was not good, the meat was severely overlooked and hard to get down, it was under seasoned as well. It came with tatziki sauce, onions, and tomatoes. I love onions but this Gyro was loaded down with extremely pungent onions and I had too remove a large amount of them. The tomato was tasteless and hard. The portions were quite large; none of us could finish our meal. The fries were good and came out hot and nicely seasoned. I would have rated two stars but the service was great and very respectful and helpful. read more

Very friendly and attentive staff. King crab legs were delicious and well prepared. The steak was swimming in an herbed oil which was a little overwhelming, but the steak was tasty. It was end of October and the combo of off-season plus staff shortages made it hard to find places open in town. We had this our first night and ordered a pizza and it was phenomenal. And our service was fabulous. Everyone was very attentive. Our pizza came out quickly and was the perfect blend of crispy and chewy crust, amazing sauce and plentiful toppings. While we were out fishing I caught a pink salmon and was given the option to throw it back. This was my first fishing experience so I wanted to keep it and was advised to eat it tonight rather than freeze it since this salmon didn't freeze with good results. I was also referred to Apollo's to have my fish cooked for me since I was staying in a hotel. We took our two pounds to the restaurant and were astounded at the platter that was brought to us. Our fish had turned into beautiful, crunchy fried pieces to dip into a delicious tartar sauce. This was after we'd had a soup and a salad. Next was a platter to share of our fish grilled to perfection and seasoned with the right touch of spices. Alongside was pasta and potatoes and garnishes. We ate here while visiting Seward, AK with friends. The food was mediocre, the service was slow and inconsistent, and the menu clearly showed a lack of identity. The menu is dominated by Italian fare, with only a handful of Greek items, despite this place being called "Apollo". Our friends laughed at the tacky decor that was a mix of Alaska tourism photos and fake Greek and Roman artifacts. The food was close to terrible. The calamari tasted either stale or frozen. The pizza we ordered had an underdone dough that was very bready and elastic. Our friends chicken alfredo looked horrid (and she confirmed it tasted pretty bad). Our other friends steak was ordered medium and came out well done. When he sent it back, the replacement steak was literally blue inside...less than rare. The service was hit and miss. Our server was nice and very apologetic about the steak mishap. However, the remainder of the staff was either slow or inexperienced. One worker came to clear our table only 5 minutes after we received our mains and prior to my friend getting his re-fired steak back. Clearly, this place caters to tourists who probably just want big portion sizes and don't care about the quality or price of what they eat. None of the food was worth what we paid and we would never dine here again. read more

I hate to two-star but meh, I've experienced better. The prices here are tourist season and they are outrageous. Local friends told us they literally swap out the menu when summer is over. We walked in with a party of seven for dinner on the third. The dining room was packed but we got a table pretty quickly. Service was attentive and the kitchen was as fast as you could expect on a busy night. The mate and I went halvsies on a pizza. As pizza goes it was tasty enough but came out cold, as if it had been sitting for a bit. I suspect they're baking the base and cheese off and then tossing on the toppings when the order comes in. Underwhelming. The others mostly went with dinner salads and pastas. Portions are large and the meal was pleasant, but the prices will make you do a double-take. My family and I went to dinner here and the food was delicious! We all had appetizers (I had Dolmas which are stuffed grape leaves served with Tzatziki (Jajiki) sauce and pita bread which was outstanding! My sister-in-law Wisteria had Grecian Brushetta which is oven toasted Crostini topped with vine ripe tomatoes, fresh basil, garlic, kalamata olives, feta cheese and olive oil which was delicious! For dinner I had a gourmet 12" spinach pizza which had garlic butter crust, mozzarella, mushrooms, onions, spinach, feta cheese, Greek seasoning (I don't know what that is but it ate good lol!) and fresh tomatoes! My nephew Gene had a Buffalo burger that looked mouth watering to even a vegetarian like myself! Also the owner of the restaurant was extremely kind to Gene, his girlfriend Kevina and the other members of my family! He also didn't present the cleanest outward image and watching him smoke on his break was enough to make me feel less confident in the food and its cleanliness. She ordered Chicken Parmesan minus the mozzarella since she is lactose intolerant. They substituted a different kinds of cheese in large quantities. In conclusion if you get the order wrong because you can't connect the dots when someone says they are allergic to something, make me question the cleanliness of the operation, and charge $30 for dinner you don't get my repeat business. read more

Spending time in Seward with folks from the bush provides an interesting perspective on food. When you live above the Arctic Circle and frozen pizza is your only choice, nearly anything else looks good. The pizza at the Apollo, they said was practically manna from heaven. I wouldn't go quite that far, but then I don't live above the Arctic Circle. I found the food to be a mixed bag. The pizza was quite good, better than I expected. Dining there on another evening, I had one of their house specials with fresh halibut. The fish was disappointing. Halibut was wrapped in phyllo, stuffed with crab, and baked. The fish was overcooked and the concoction just did not come together. One of my dining partners had fish and chips, which she declared were great. The service was decent and our waiter had a bubbly, chatty vibe. If I ever have a chance to live in northern Alaska, I will remember Apollo's when yet another box of Red Baron comes out of the freezer. read more

The food - which was surprisingly unique - Lots of choices, we had smoked-salmon pizza with a white sauce. But over all, the place left no impression on me. The waitress did nothing to win my patronage, anticipated none of my needs and pushed me to buy dessert, which only got my kids all whining at me. My husband and I took a scenic drive to Seward this past weekend and decided on the Apollo Restaurant as our choice to eat. There was only one waitress there, plus a couple of other workers on the floor (a cashier? Hostess?). There was another couple who came in after us and they were seated behind us. Upon being seated, the waitress brought us the lunch menu. However, after looking it over, we asked for the dinner menu instead. After she brought the dinner menus, the waitress never came back to our table again. We sat there and waited for at least 15 minutes or more, while the waitress took the order of the couple behind us, then tended to all the other tables. She went from table to table but never came back to take our order. The people that came in after us got their food and the waitress still hadn't taken our order! Finally, another worker (the cashier?) walked past our table and asked if we had ever gotten our order taken yet? We said no, then she said that okay, she would take our order then. She did take our order, refilled our drinks, brought our food, and was quite nice. But the waitress herself never came back to our table again after bringing the menus. As for the food, we both had pasta and seafood dishes. They were both very good and very tasty. But, they were on the expensive side, especially considering the atmosphere of the restaurant and the inferior service. After tipping the person who took our order, we ended up spending about $90 for two people, which is a lot, all things considered. Honestly, the food was terrific, but we were treated like an afterthought the entire time we were there. The next time we visit Seward, we will look for another restaurant instead. read more

YES!! GO THERE!! We went after hiking up to the Harding Icefield & back, so we were a might peckish, & pizza sounded good. The restaurant is huge inside and pretty nice; our server was incredibly knowledgeable & helpful (apparently he's a cook during the winter). The selection of wine & beer was impressive, especially compared to what we were expecting. The beer list included a wide variety of both local favorites like Midnight Sun & Alaskan as well as choices from the lower 48. I had a tasty riesling with dinner, & my boyfriend followed his beer up with a pretty decent chianti. We ordered a large pizza so that we could have leftovers (can't remember which, now, but it was fabulous), and also one of the seafood pastas (can't remember which one of those, either - only that it was enormous & super-tasty). Everything we had was amazing. Slightly pricey, but worth it. read more

While I wasn't a huge fan of the halibut calabrese that our server said was quite popular, I did enjoy the garlic clams. The true standout though was the prawn saganaki appetizer. It is unique with jumbo prawns bathing in butter, garlic, feta and parmesan cheese. Plus, it's a large portion so it could easily be a meal. I will admit that I'm very hard to please where food is involved. I was in Alaska for a week and hadn't really had anything that tasted fresh or unique, until we walked into Apollo's. I can't remember the exact name of the salad I ordered, but it had an absolutely beautiful raspberry vinaigrette that was made from scratch! Honestly, who does that? More importantly, who does it well? The wonderful person who was cooking in the kitchen at Apollo, that's who! If they weren't a six hour flight away, I'd be there daily just for that vinaigrette! We had a great server....we ordered te greek salad and twopizzas that were excellent. The crust was tasty where my husand ate the bones. I really enjoyed the Apollo. I have to say they have some of the best tasting food in my opinion. The Greek spaghetti is one of my favorite dishes. As you walk in the restaurants entrance it could use a little bit more imagination, but don't let that discourage you for what the food and chefs have to offer. If you ask to meet the cook he will be more than happy to meet you. ( by the way his name is Kostas) Seward is known for its fishing and if you do go fishing in the morning. You can bring your catch to the restaurant and cook it for you. The price is reasonable considering all the work they have to do to prep your fish. I highly recommend it. read more

We were here for the winter season and decided to try this place out. It's one of the few places open during the off season. Long story short. It was okay. I felt it was WAY overpriced for the quality of food and the atmosphere of the restaurant. You walk in and it feels like a cheap pizza joint should; but then you open the menu, and to your dismay, will see $30+ priced plates. Some are even over $80!! The portions were decent, but the taste wasn't all there. Service was great! Our server was very attentive and friendly, saying we were one of 3 tables in the restaurant. Super friendly service. Casual atmosphere. Good for groups or families. Food was good. Got the Greek salad, Chicken Parmesan and Lemon Creme cake for dessert. Prices are expected given it's a tourist town but we split a salad, entree and dessert and it was enough. If you're super hungry you might consider ordering one entree per person. The cool thing about this restaurant though is if you bring in your fresh catch of the day they will cook it for you!! Enjoy! read more
