Please stay away from this one. I was referred to this place by my dentist. Before I make the reservation, they were saying my out-of-pocket expense is $50, and I called one day before to double confirmed it. However, After I came to the store and signed the agreement and everything, they told me I need to pay $180+ because my insurance does not cover it. I waited for 1 hour before I can see the doctor and he spent less than 5 minutes talking to me and told me I need an oral surgery. I highly suspect those 5 stars comments are from the business owners or their friends. I doubt that anyone would give this place 5 star. I would give 0 star if yelp has that option. Overall it was an amazing visit. The entire staff was really good on time management. The standout moment of my visit was with Dr. Swati. She really senstive on my teeth and i did not feel any discomfort. I felt that she was honest and told me what I really needed to get done. There were other issues less critical, which she advised with good dental hygiene practices i could save myself a lot of money. Finally, the most important thing i left Apple dental with (other than a clean set of teeth) was information. Dr. Swati wanted me to know exactly what is wrong with my teeth and how I can improve it. I started seeing Dr. Khaleel 5 years ago when my gums were slightly bleeding and my teeth had become extra sensitive and I was in a desperate need of a good dentist. Dr. Khaleel examined my teeth and immediately identified the issues, she pointed out that there were a few new cavities developing and she also noticed that I grind my teeth while sleeping, which was causing extra sensitivity in my teeth. She took care of my new cavities right away by cleaning and minor filling so it doesn't develop further and she gave me a night guard to prevent teeth grinding. Since then I have just been only doing regular cleaning every 6 months and my teeth have had no issues at all. I have been very satisfied with Dr. Khaleel, she is very attentive and patiently answers all my questions and discusses my dental health in detail after every check up. Been going here for 2+ years. I had a lot of differing opinions about a tooth (5 dentists/5 different recommendations). I ended up going with Dr. Safa's recommendation for two onlays (the owner/proprietor), even though it was the most expensive. Btw, the opinions for the same problem ranged from (least to most expensive) one filling to one onlay to one crown to two onlays. She saw something the others missed and she turned out to be right. It was obvious when she removed the fillings. Since then I've had a couple more onlays, due to very old metal fillings that failed after ~40 years. Everyone I've met there has been very friendly, and treated me like a lifelong customer - a good vibe all around. There has been turnover as people mention, but I've liked the previous and the current employees equally well. One other thing - I've had so many dentists recently in part due to dentists dropping out of my Medicare Advantage plan. She is one of my very few in-network options. However, I would recommend her if my plan applied to all dentists. I trust her and the people that work for her. I've learned the MA plan is close to worthless anyway because they don't pay for ceramic onlays, and I'm done with metal in my mouth. read more

I had a routine cleaning, and it was the single most painful dental experience of my life. The hygienist was extremely rough, stabbing into my gums repeatedly even after I asked if she could be more gentle.... multiple times. Then, she got out the mirror and showed me my gums were bleeding to explain that I'd need a "deep cleaning". Well, no shit they're bleeding! You just stabbed the shit out of them! I have a hard time believing I even need the procedure because when I got home I looked it up and it's for peridontal disease. I have gone to another dentist regularly for the past several years (only came here because we recently moved here) and they never even mentioned a mild case of this disease! I have a very hard time believing it developed to the point that I'd need that sort of procedure so quickly. They also tried to sell me on a custom made night guard. I really get the feeling this place is just trying to scam you into a bunch of unnecessary procedures. They also took 18 x-rays, and when I mentioned that's a whole lot of x-rays, they said that they only do this every 3 years or if your insurance changes. Um, why would my insurance changing mean you'd need to irradiate me more? I assume this is because a new insurance company would cover the cost of the additional, unnecessary x-rays because they wouldn't know they'd already been done recently. More evidence this place is a scam. If you don't want to come out of the dentist feeling like you just tried to eat a live porcupine, I'd stay away from this place. STAY AWAY - This place is going down hill and I shall never return. I started visiting them back in 2013 if my memory serves me right. The front desk was nice, friendly, and very welcoming, but since 2015 things have changed. I think they fired the whole front desk, and laid off some really good dentists as well. I stayed with them for 2 more years just to observe if they were still as good as the previous team, and this new team is just bad. Let's start off from the front desk since that is what I used to liked about them. They really cared about you. They wanted you to get your teeth health rather up selling you the service. And if the service is too expensive, they will work with you to lower the cost. I had a deep cleaning before, and of course, the original quote was on the high end, but they worked it out and only charged $200. And the last time I went, they flat out said it is $1,100, and they don't care if you do it or not. The worst thing is that she said if your insurance doesn't cover it, you will pay for it. This puts me to believe that they don't care about you, they only care about getting the money. Appointments - I had never had to re-schedule any appointments until 2015. And since 2015, they re-scheduled 3 times! They didn't care to give you an explanation why they needed to re-schedule Saturday appointment, but if you guys don't plan to work on Saturdays at all, why schedule people for Saturdays in the first place? And the worst thing is that when they re-schedule, they put me all the way back to the line. I picked this place because it is close to my workplace, and I can sneak an hour or two from work to get my teeth clean. But given what has changed, I will just need to start looking at other places. read more

I have been coming here for the last 3+ years and have really tried to give this office the benefit of the doubt - but it's just been too much. My most recent experience (after a series of other red-flags) was the last straw, and despite the inconvenience of finding a new dentist, I will likely be switching providers.  Recently, I switched insurance plans and went in for my normal 6-month cleaning. When I sat down the hygienist said they would be taking a "full set" of images - which ended up being EIGHTEEN x-rays. I was shocked at the number, and stopped her after the 12th image saying this seemed like unnecessary exposure (typically they take 4 bitewings every 6 months - 1 year, which I had just gotten done on my last visit). When the dentist arrived for my exam (after I was sitting waiting for 15+ mins), I asked her why 18 images were being ordered, her answer was incredibly unconvincing. She was caught off guard by the question - ultimately saying that 18 images are "routine" every 2 years and "just as safe as walking in the sun." Prior to her coming in I had already checked online and the American Dental Association states that this type of imaging only needs to be done if your new to a dental practice and they don't have your images (not the case here), or every 3-5 years if you are heavily prone to cavities (also not the case here). Her answer showed me that either she is unfamiliar with, or completely fudging what routine dental guidelines say, OR this is being done purely for billing purposes because I have new insurance and the office is going to bill my provider for a full set of x-rays simply because they can.  A quick scan of other reviews shows that another customer has had this happen to them as well (i.e. they had been coming to this office for years, but the first visit after getting new insurance the office subjected them to 18 x-rays in order to bill the provider a higher amount).  I already knew this office was billing focused (as evidenced by how often they push $40 fluoride treatment etc., w/o telling you it's not covered), but I am so angered by the fact that a dental office would subject me to unnecessary radiation simply to increase their bill. I am frustrated by how guarded you have to be with this office. You have to question their every action and advocate for yourself to an unreasonable degree (you might as well go and become a dentist due to the amount of research you have to do to check their statements). This is on top of a host of other issues - they are typically disorganized, billing is a mess, visits are long because internal processes aren't streamlined etc.  If you have not come here before, protect your wallet, but more importantly your health/body, and find a different dental practice. read more

Apple Dental is unprofessional and dishonest. They caused permanent damage to my teeth and then refused to take responsibility for their mistakes. Specifically, a significant portion of my front teeth chipped off because Apple Dental took me through an Invisalign treatment that I didn't need. When I complained during the Invisalign treatment that it was changing my bite they said "stick with it, it'll be fine." It wasn't fine. After the chipping occurred, the offered to refund my money and connected me with another dentist who could fix what was broken. They said they'd pay for the repairs. Then (I think after the boss got involved) they retracted the offer to pay. read more

Terrible communication, extremely unprofesssional staff across the board. I called yesterday (Tues) to make an appointment about toothpain/cavities, and they said the soonest they could get me was Monday next week because the general dentist would be on vacation until then. Ok, fine, I understand. I get a call a few hours later saying that a slot for 10am the next day opened up and that the dentist could see me then. Obviously I agree because I am in pain. I show up at 10am the next day, and they tell me that the dentist suddenly could not make it that morning because of an 'emergency'. Why was I not notified beforehand? Why was I not told this before I already paid my copay at the desk? ($45 for flouride!) Was this really an emergency or did the dentist just leave for vacation early? So now I have to sit there to get the cleaning I already paid for, even though the only reason I was there was to get a cavity filled which they now can't do without a dentist. But instead of doing the cleaning, the hygienist spends the rest of the hour trying to sell me on a $700 'deep cleaning' procedure and even brings in the office manager to help convince me. I tell them I'm not interested and just want to see a general dentist, and they try to schedule me for a next-day root canal consultation with an endodontist because "that's what the general dentist would probably recommend anyways". Is it even ethical or legal for them to give this kind of advice!? After I told them no, the hygienist gives me a half-hearted 5 minute 'standard cleaning', probably rushing to get me out of there because they couldn't squeeze any more money out of me. I got practically nothing out of this and my cavities still hurt. read more

As far as pricing goes, the price they quoted me at for work was similar to standard rates so I'm not sure what these other reviewers are taking about. Apple Denta will ask your insurance to move you to another provider if you ask about the quality of their dental work. l came to apple dental ,new to the area, to recieve care or my yeary cleanings. I also asked to discuss an implant crown and inquired about work quality and how Apple Dental go about standing behind their work. I feel this is a fair question. To my knowledge there is no organization who holds dentist responsible for work quality. To find a dentist most people i know ask friends or trusted dentist for a referral. Apple Dental stated they stand behind their work and I will have a great experience. I asked for a draw down of cost before I left and was told they would take 1 week to get back to me. I though this was odd as I usually recieve estimates quickly so an appointment can be sceduled. I never heard from Apple Dental and instead received a the letter from my dental insurance stating that Apple Dental thought it was best that i was no longer a client and asked my insurance to remove them. Never heard of this kind of thing happening. So, be careful asking about quality of work at Apple Dental you might get dismissed as a client. read more

Don't go to this dental group unless you want to waste your money. My wife needs a root canal and has Humana Insurance and they tried to charge her a $1,447 copay plus a $140 copay for the consultation. The business manager seems to only have eyes for how much money she can squeeze out of you. The next endodontist we went to only charges a $600 copay for the same procedure with $0 copay for the same procedure. Why does Apple Dental think that their procedure is worth $1000 more than the same procedure done by some other well-qualified dentist. This can only happen because the front office is making a big commission off of the clients who come in. Don't waste your time with this company! read more

Yes, you need to ask what their fees are for Everything because they are trying hard to get you to spend money even though your water carries fluoride treatment and you don't need the fluoride treatment in the dental office especially for adults. This is just one of the things that was bad for the office; others are like not returning patients' phone calls and emails, delaying getting insurance authorizations for treatments, not accepting responsibilities for their mistakes, etc. The best business practices are that customers/patients are always right, but not here. I was skeptical when during a visit I was told that a fairly recent composite filling needed to be replaced with a $1000 ceramic onlay. I went and got a second opinion elsewhere, where the dentist told me the filling was fine and no onlay was needed, saving me a over a thousand in dental costs. I never really write yelp reviews but I am truly disappointed in the work that Apple Dental does and their customer service. Apple Dental tries to over charge its clients before figuring out insurance coverage and they are very inconsistent. I have been going to Apple Dental for many years now and there always seems to be an issue and a lot of disorganization. A couple months ago I had a few cavities and got them filled here. I had to upgrade to a white filling because according to Apple Dental my insurance doesn't cover it. I payed over $300 out of pocket to get them covered by Dr Swati which was not even a good job. I had to go back again to get the cavity fixed because it was causing me pain. Just today, I went back to Apple Dental driving in traffic for over 1.5 hours from San Jose to see Dr. Swati. I told her about the pain I have been having in between the teeth that she filled for me back in June and also the pain at my gum level. She completely disregarded my pain about the cavities and quickly jumped to saying that my gum area is injured from brushing my teeth and that I needed a filling. Her assistant came back with a paper and quickly said it would COST me AGAIN over $270. I stated that my insurance should cover most of that which they said it wouldn't without even contacting them first or prior to my visit. . More so, I was not that disappointed about paying that amount although it was unnecesary. I was disappointed that they kept me waiting an hour without even figuring out the problem. I walked out of the dentist without any treatment being done on my tooth and no answer to the problem they had with my insurance. In spite of calling Apple Dental last week and informing them to call my insurance, they have yet not done anything to fix their issues with my insurance. Its really easy for them to say that something is wrong with your teeth and that it will cost you money. However, they never actually take the time to figure out what the insurance does cover. I have payed so much money out of pocket because of the unnecessary work they do on your teeth. I had a crown fitted over a year ago - they insisted it was needed even though I had never had any pain with the 'affected' tooth. The crown caused me constant pain for around 6 months even after 5 follow-up visits. It is a weird shape and does not fit in with the rest of my teeth very well. WARNING!!!!!! PLEASE READ!!!!! SHOULD HAVE NO STARS Because our insurance changed our regular dentist who was amazing was no longer an option for us. My son went here this past summer before his freshman year of high school began. He needed to get a few cavities filled before he was to have braces put on. (braces done by a different dentist luckily.) Every visit was so weird, complicated, and unprofessional. He sat in the dental chair for 1 hour before anyone even approached him. They filled two cavities and did a crown overlay on both of them. Took 3 visits to finish. Such a bizarre practice I can't believe they are still in business. When i got the medical bill they tried to charge my insurance over $4000.00. i am in the process of filing a complaint with the better business bureau and my insurance. The WORST part of the experience is that my son has been in constant pain ever since. He cannot chew or eat on that side ever since that dental work was done. We went back 2 times to see if they could maybe figure out the problem but still no resolve. They told him to wait another six weeks. I am so angry and frustrated by this place. I am not as interested in "customer service" and more interested in QUALITY service. I went in to this place because I had a chipped tooth. They said there had been decay progressing in the tooth and a root canal would be necessary. Fine. This is feasible, plus I could smell the decay anyway. I had had one root canal about 5 years prior as part of my wisdom teeth extractions. Anyway, fast forward a year later and the crown has fallen off. There's all kinds of decay on the rooted tooth. If you know anything about root canals, they should be PROPERLY sealed so that nothing gets in there. However, due to the sub-par dentist at Apple Dental, I am now having to spend another 4k on an implant since now I have to have the damn thing removed. Avoid this place if you need anything more advanced than a cleaning. read more

She is incredibly bright, an amazing listener, and really present with my numerous health quirks. Really, I went in incredibly nervous and left totally reassured, and with nice shiny teeth! Her advice is NOT one-size-fits-all...she listens to your lifestyle and your habits, considers, and gives you intelligent suggestions. I went to them by recommendation by a co-worker. I had a filling performed at foothill community health center (dental) in San Jose on la pala drive and they cracked my tooth but would not admit to it or refer me to a specialist for a root canal thus desperately seeking dental help for the tooth pain/earache/headaches. Saw Dr. Safa Kahleel who only filed down the filling even more (f.c.h.c also did the same ) and there were three X-ray's taken at the office - there was never any mention of a tooth abscess and there was never a discussion of the xray they took? Safa did have front desk set me an appointment to see their Endodontic in case I need a root canal. Thursday after my visit with Dr. Sala my tooth/earache/headache all started up again cause of the probing of my tooth as to be expected - on Thursday night I felt around my tooth and upper gum lined and felt a med size tooth abscess which was obviously there at the dental appointment with Sala - so why did she not see it??????? I emailed the office and she did respond with she did not see the abscess during her examination of my tooth??? what in a few hours my tooth abscess magically appeared to a med size abscess????She will be calling me Monday to tell me the estimate of a root canal which will be performed by a specialist who visits the office hum??? read more

I've been going to Dr. Khaleel for the past 3 years and she is an excellent dentist. She always does a thorough job with testing and screening, and very clearly explains the health of my teeth, and what precautionary measures I need to take. I visited her last week for a regular check-up and cleaning. I am 7 months pregnant. Initially I was a bit hesitant to see the dentist for any risk or side effects to the baby due to the cleaning equipment / teeth polishing. However, Dr. Khaleel walked me through the dental procedure in advance, explained the current situation with all my teeth, the wisdom tooth and pre / post pregnancy care and paused to reassure me through the cleaning process. I would highly recommend her for dental expertise as well as focused patient care. Also, the dental facility is clean & hygienic, and it was pretty cool to be able to see the interiors of my teeth/ mouth on a video monitor during the screening! read more

I saw Dr. Swati Agrawal for my dental care. She is such a wonderful dentist! She was very thorough with her exam and carefully examined my mouth and the corresponding film to make sure she provided an effective treatment plan. She made sure to prioritize what was important and within my budget. She carefully explained everything and made sure to answer questions thoroughly. She also made good suggestions for home oral care and directed me towards products that would be best for my needs. During the exam, she was very gentle and made sure to ask me constantly whether I was comfortable. Overall, it was a great experience and Dr. Agrawal was a great find! read more

Apple Dental's team has been nice and appreciate their help

STAY AWAY FROM IT if you don't want to be abused both physically and mentally. The psychiatric and emotional status of the only oral surgeon there, The Phan, makes me feel unsafe. The description below is an excerpt from a complaint I recently filed to Dental Board of California. You can ignore the long story below if you're not interested in the details, but the take-home message is: STAY AWAY UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE TORTURED --------------------------------- "After a while, the oral surgeon, The Phan, came to me and said 'laughing gas is a gas which can make you feel relaxed, do you want it in addition to the local analgesia shot?' I answered no because I am aware that all types of analgesia can make people relaxed and I don't see the difference between type A and B and the necessity of type B on top of A. The Phan didn't explain at all what is special for laughing gas, why it is necessary considering there is already another type of analgesia being used, how much percent of patients need it during wisdom tooth extraction, and whether it can be given after the shots of analgesia are given, etc. And he never ever talked even one word about the option of sedation during our talk before the surgery. After several minutes I was taken to another room and surgery started. The dentist gave me several shots of analgesia to make my left part of mouth numb. After several minutes, he said "Now you're numbed. You should be able to feel 'pressure' but not 'sharp pain'". Based on my previous experience with other dentists (I've had four teeth root canaled before, done by different dentists), I expected the routines I would go through at this point after analgesia should be something interactive as the example below: Dentist: 'Now I'm going to give you a shot which is a sharp pain but you should not be able to feel it since you are numbed. OK?' Patient: 'OK' Dentist: 'Can you feel the sharp pain?' Patient answers yes or no Dentist: 'Now I'm going to put a clamp on your tooth and you should be able to feel the pressure but not sharp pain. OK?' Patient: 'OK.' Dentist: 'Can you feel the pressure or pain?' Patient answered pressure and/or pain. However, The Phan didn't give me any notification before he poked me all of a sudden with the needle, and after he poked me he said 'This is sharp'. Worse still, the analgesia he gave me is not enough to make my mouth fully numbed and I almost screamed out after I was poked all of a sudden. According to my prior experience at other dentists, usually at this time they would give me another shot of analgesia and wait a few more minutes and try again. However, this is not the case by The Phan. Instead of adding any more analgesia, he suddenly pulled my teeth using a tool without notification before I calmed down from the first shock, and then said "this is pressure". I burst out into tears by then. And immediately following that, he gave me another fierce poke with needle on the right part of mouth which is not numbed, and said 'this is sharp'. I don't really understand the necessity of this poke since I already expressed my painful feeling when he poked on the numbed side and the other side could only be more painful. After these steps, his mood seems to be out of control. He started brusquely tearing a piece of paper (maybe a copy of my paperwork) into very small pieces with all his force, instead of putting them away or handing them to his assistant in a normal way. He fling his dental instruments into his bag on the floor from very up high and made a loud sound by doing so. And finally he slammed the door of the room in a rude way and left the clinic. I don't know whether his tantrum has anything to do with a phone call he got while I was lying on the bed for treatment, but I did heard him answering a phone call and saying something like ' I only want it to be clean, not crazy...'. I felt I'm abused during this visit but I didn't directly talk to him because his behavior makes me feel unsafe even in a public area. After he left, I asked his assistant Tomas 'is he always treating his patient in this way'. Tomas said 'he is upset to you because you didn't use the laughing gas and I'm sorry if you feel he is rude.' I think this is not good excuse and his behaviors suggest he is flaming mad instead of upset. On one hand, he did not explain the necessity of laughing gas except saying 'it is for you to relax' which does not help at all for the patient to make decisions since all types of analgesia can relax patients. On the other hand, whatever type of analgesia a patient selected, she should not be treated in such a rude way.
